General :: Calculation On Form - Force 1 Decimal Place At All Times
May 7, 2014
I'm using a calculation on my form that subtracts one number from another and stores the difference between the two in a 3rd field. This works correctly but I want the difference to show 1 decimal place at all times.
So for instance if subtract 35.1 from 35.2 I get a difference of "0.1".
But if I subtract 35.0 from 36.0 I get a difference of "1".
The first case is fine but I need the difference to be "1.0" in the second case.
I've set the number of decimal places in the table from auto to 1 and changed the format on the form to a standard number with 1 decimal place. Neither of these show a difference of 1 as "1.0"
I have a textbox (Odour), that contains one of four words (Cadaver ( ), Drugs ( ), Explosives ( ) or Money ( ) ), the word is written in by pressing one of four buttons, this works fine.
I now want the user to write in between the the brackets and only the brackets. For example:
The textbox contains Cadaver ( ), I want the user to be able to write between the brackets "Blood".
I seem to recall that there is a way of only allowing the user to type in certain places within a textbox.
I am building a database from a detailed Excel file which has upwards of 22 decimal places. Access restricts the decimal usage to 15 characters. Even when selecting the 15 characters, Access rounds the entry. The only way it will work so far is as text, but it is a calculated field. Any suggestions?
Hey everyone - is there a way within Access to set the decimal places so that it holds a 0 after the decimal if you put it in that way, but also uses Auto for the # of decimal places? For example, I'm trying to create a DB in which one of the fields is to hold GPAs. It obviously looks silly to have it displayed as 4 if it's 4.0, but I would also prefer to not set the decimal places at 3 and have it displayed as 4.000. I can do this if I have to, but what would be most preferable would be to have it record the number exactly the way I put it in, whether it's 4.0 or 3.875 without cutting off anything (0's or multi-digit decimals) after the decimal. Is this possible, or do I have to customize the output in ASP?
On a from I am creating I want to make it user friendly. They enter an amount for a percentage. I have the format set to percentage. If you type in 99 you get 9900% instead of 99%. Is there an easy way to correct this?
I have set the decimal place property of a text box to 2. Then when i run a query that puts data in that box, the deci places are still well over 2..It lokks to be over riding it, how do I stop this?
Successful in loading an Access database with data from the PLC's memory. Unfortunately, I'm only able to transfer Integer values. In the database I'd like to show one of the fields as a real number by formatting the Integer value to add a decimal place. Example: 2505 to 250.5
i want my data to have only 2 decimal places. So i change the property of the table to only allow 2 decimal places and i did the same to the report and they are still all over the place....for example a field would say 8.12233444 and another 1.17.....what do you think is the problem?
My DB is merge in a currency field set to 2 decimal places into word. It's doing this by declaring the fields as variable, calling an instance of work then dropping the values into the bookmarks. All works fine....
When a value is 360.64 is fine, but when it's something that ends with a 0 (360.60) - is loses the 0 giving me 360.6.
I have a pivotchart which I cause to take a huge list of people's test percentiles and calculate the average for each year. I then display the average above each bar. The problem is that there are too many numbers after the decimal place for each figure. I went into the properties and changed the number format to "fixed" but it doesn't give me the option to change the number of decimal places that are used (it does every where else in MS Office!). It seems that it just uses the regional settings for the computer. But the problem I have in changing that is that I have other pivotcharts in the same report that does something similar but needs a different number of decimal places. Is there any way around this without having to create another query to calculate the average and then having the pivotchart display the info from the new query (this is a huge database that I put together with many charts and I don't want to have to redo the way that it works just because of this decimal place issue)?
1. I created a table that contains information about people and their details (mainly numerical info). 2. I created a form containing a command button and a label. 3. I have written a VBA script under the button so that when the button is pressed, the result of the calculation appears as the caption on the label.
My problem is...How do I get the script to run so it does the calculation for every record and places the result as a field in a query.
I have a table that lists computers I want to know the age of them for replacement purposes. I am using this function to populate a textbox on a form that updates my table. the results I am getting is a negative whole number I would like to get a positive number with one decimal place. so if computer was shipped September 24, 2010 my textbox would say 3.5 not -3
Here is my function
Code: Private Sub Form_Load() Dim theDate As Date Dim age As Integer theDate = Nz(Me.compDate.value, 0) If theDate > 0 Then age = DateDiff("yyyy", Now(), theDate) Me.compAge = age End If End Sub
My users do a fair bit of copy/paste from any number of sources.
How do I force the paste action to strip out any hidden characters? Now I realize that a return and a space are hidden characters, so how do I strip out everything but the ones that I want?
I'm using Access 2003 to create some reports for an insurance company I work for by interrogating the Informix database of our policy maintenance software via an ODBC connection. The linked tables and the fields included within cannot be edited due to permission restrictions (the software is provided by a third party) but this doesn't usually cause issues.
However, I've recently created a Query that extracts a *number* field from one of our database tables, but I'm having trouble due to the 'Scale' attributed to this field in the Access table settings.
Access recognizes that the field is a 'Decimal' type, but attributes a 'scale' of '0' which causes an error. 'Scale' (for those who aren't aware) refers to the maximum number of digits that can appear to the right of a decimal separator, meaning whenever this value exceeds 0 (e.g. if an advisor enters something like 240.51 - a 'Scale' of '2'), the 'Scaling of decimal value resulted in truncation' error occurs.
As mentioned earlier, we don't have the ability to amend the Scale attributed to this value due to permission restrictions, although I'm told that 'Scale' is set in Access and not on the external database anyway.
how to bypass this issue? I can't reformat the field as Access attributes the Scale upon the initial linking of the table, long before the field is used in any queries. Permission restrictions also prevent me from amending the 'Scale' value in the linked table settings.
The software house themselves can't assist as they've set this value to hold multiple decimals on the actual database. It's as if Access only checks a small proportion of the fields held in the table (the first few hundred of this particular field are whole numbers) and attributes the scale based on this.
I have a table (Imported from Excel) with In and Out records.
Here are the problems I have:Each record has either In or Out data. I have an identifier to know which ones are In and which ones are Out
It might have some misses, either no In or no Out record for the specific work time. A worker can get in at the evening and get out at the morning of the next day. Might have more then one entrance/exit on the same date.
I want to have the record sorted so I'll have an In and Out on the same row (record) including holes for the missing ones.
I have a calculated field in a query that generates a result that i need to display in forms/reports with the $ sign but zero decimal places (ie; rounded to the nearest $ value, $5).
If i use the sql format currency function (format (n, "currency",0) it always displays the $ sign but with two decimal places...
In the form/report text box property i set the format to currency, with the decimal places set to 0, but it still displays two decimal places (this property setting seems to make no difference other than displaying the $ sign). Is there something i am missing regarding the way access formatting works?
I have a Table with a Field set to Number, Single, Fixed, 2 Decimal points in which I enter Hours (ie 11.25) then at some point I want to extract those new entries to create a Text file transfer.
I have a Macro which extracts those new entries from the main Table and copies/appends them to a new Table which contains only the new data I need to create the File to upload into a Payroll system (using TransferText option).
It all works well EXCEPT, the File it creates insists on showing 8 decimal points and I just cannot get it to show 2 only.I have tried using a calculated field, setting the secondary Table field to Text.why or where these 8 decimals are coming from.
I'm having difficulty in adding decimal amounts to a percentage expression. On a form in a text box I have a percentage expression of 73.38%. In a combo box I have a drop down menu of: 0.75, 0.5, 0.25, 0, -.25, -.5, -.75With another text box I would like to have the decimal amounts added to the percentage. For example, 73.38% + .5..Which will equal in the text box: 73.88%
I have a form which displays the values of a table Vehicles. It has a control at the bottom of the form that allows you to toggle through the records, or enter a specific number of a record for it to jump to. It starts at 1.
I want it to skip the first 3 records in the table, and start at number 4. Is there a simple way to do that?
I have a form that has a bunch of check boxes on it. The user selects specific check boxes My code then has a few If then statements to test which ones were selected. With each one that is selected a query is run to select specific records in a table. (querying out the values from an email field) The user then hits a button to send the email. Microsoft Outlook opens and the emails list is added to the "To" in the email.
Everything works great...But I have a slight issue. If a user has permissions on more than one account when they go to send an email they have the ability to choose a "From" (thus specifying which account to send from)
The user can currently select which one they want but I want this to be more automatic.
CAN i specify which account to send from automatically when the email opens. BUT Just for this application...
Does that Make any sense?
THanks in Advance
