General :: Call Quality Monitoring - Recordset Can't Be Updated?

I am creating a database for call quality monitoring. Just when I thought everything was working perfectly, I get an error saying the record set can't be updated. I can't find anything useful about it online either.

Here is my database:

I have a table which is essentially an template for call quality. each record has a primary key ID number. I also have a table for staff and their teams which is linked to the other table.

I have a form where you can select the staff member, and there is a tab control where the second tab has their quality results via a sub form. I have made the primary key a hyperlink so when clicked it brings up the quality form of the original record. however it can't be updated and gives me the message saying record set can't be updated.

I want the user to be able to click the hyperlink, bring up the record and edit where required.

Is this even possible?

I am working on a database. I changed some of the data that was already in the database and it saved without any problems - when I reopened the database, the data was still there. But when I try to input completely new data, none of it will save (it is a database of employees and their information). So, just to make it more understandable, when I change one piece of information, it saves without any problems, but when I want to add a new employee together with their information, save it and reopen the database, it is not there.

Modules & VBA :: Static Shell Function Call Works But Dynamic Call Fails

I'm having to recode some old MS Access DBs so they will run in the following environments:

Office 2000 on WinXP
Office 2003 on WinXP
Office 2010 on WinXP
Office 2000 on Win7
Office 2003 on Win7
Office 2010 on Win7

When I wrote my code for Office 2000 on WinXP things were simple because directory paths were the same across all computers and I could hard code pathing when using a shell command to launch other files.

My new approach is to make a function call to the Windows registry to determine the default executable and path for opening a file based upon its extension (see apicFindExecutable in basWindows API module).

I'm able to use code to create a shell call and debug print it to the immediate window. If I put my cursor in the immediate window at the end of the shell call and hit [enter] the external file will open as desired. If I try to open the external file directly through code, I get a file not found error.

To recreate the error take the following steps:

(1) browse to files that are accessible from your computer
(2) click the PREPARE DATA AND OPEN MAIL MERGE DOCUMENTS command button

Shell function call is made by the fnOpenFile function located in the basOpenFile module. There has to be a trick here that I'm missing.

i've been working on a database that can track the contract dates of contractual employees in our company. do you have any idea on how am i going to structure a table that will include the following:

- The start date of the previous contract
- The end date of the previous contract
- The start date of the present contract
- The end date of the present contract

employees can be issued more than 1 contract.

General :: Delay When Field Is Updated And Form Is Re-queried

I have a continuous form with an SQL query as its record source, it is a dynaset. Each row on the form is for a specific picture, containing a unique ID, a pre-generated caption field, and an official caption field. The idea is that users will edit the pre-generated caption field, hit a button, then their changes to the pregenerate caption will be made to the value of the official caption field.

My VBA code for the button works fine, in that it doesn't return any errors. The problem is that there is some sort of delay between when the button is hit and when the official caption field is updated. After the first press, the form requeries and the official caption field is the same, but after a second press the official caption field will display the user's changes.

First, a recordset clone is created using an SQL query, the pre-generated caption column is selected and then the results are filtered to the single record that shares the picture ID of whatever row the user was working in. Next, an SQL update runs, replacing the value of the official caption field with the value of the pre-generated caption that is contained in the recordset clone. Then the form is requeried.

I've tried adding a change of focus at the beginning of the code and a 15 second pause between when the update statement runs and when the form is requeried, neither solves the issue. The problem can't entirely be my code, because a second press of the button will make the appropriate changes.

I know what you're thinking, why have divide the captions into pre-generated and official in the first place - why not use pre-generated caption as the caption source? There is a separate feature that allows a user to mass edit captions and I decided to retain the original pre-generated caption as a field, in the event that the user makes a mistake or decides to reference the content of the pre-generated caption.

Monitoring Access DB Size

Hello all.

I have a large db. I need something to monitor the size of it. For example the db is saved on a server and used throughout the day. What I need is something to email me an alert when the db reaches 900mbs. Then I can compact and repair the database back down.

I do purge it annually though. Currently it is about 750 mbs.

Any thoughts, please let me know. Thanks much.

Using Access 97, 2000, and 2002.

I have taken the Access Tasks template and modified a bit. It now captures and saves the time and date a record is modified. The database is on a network folder and is shared among our team users.What I would like to do next is make it,

1- capture and record on my Tasks table the user name of who created the record by using the fOSUserName() function. I have the table fields "Created by" and the VB code in a module. This would happen only once when the record is created.

I would also like to do this with the machine name for which I have the module too. fOSMachineName()

and,

2- capture and record the user name of who modified a record. For this I also have a field in my task table "Last Modified By" and i hope i can use the same fOSUerNmae() function.

I got to the point where I put an unbounded text box with the =fOSUserName() in it and it does show the user name but how do i get to record to my task table?how the template removes the tasks that are completed from the task list as soon as it is updated to completed? how can I make this happen with a cancelled option after I add it to the drop down list?

Quality System Archive Resolved Records

I would appreciate any tips as to how I can archive records where the yes no field named "Resolved" is ticked. These records may need to be retrieved (as opposed to deleted). Any deletion would be made at some time later as part of a manual database maintenance process. Unfortuantely the database is 200 Kb larger than permitted to upload however, I can forward a zipped copy if required. Kind regards. Bernard

Best Practice To Handle Poor Data Quality In Relationships?

I'm attempting to normalize an enormous table with order data, but I'm running into some problems. The table currently contains many duplicates, of which also included the actual order information (yikes!), but I managed to normalize it almost all the way down. It appears that different accounts can be used on orders, and these order numbers are being recycled for some reason months down the line (don't ask my why they're reusing them for future orders because I have no idea either, they should be creating new order numbers). Of course, the Order number is the primary key in my table as it should be. I guess the same thing can occur with the sales rep. Anyway, I'm struggling to find the "best practice way" to deal with this situation. I'm almost tempted to create an intermediary "transaction table" or something like that between the main general order information (which at this point will basically be the Order Number and Customer ID only), then include a table with the account information and sales rep info, then have that link to the Order Detail with the products, quantity, order number and various dates for those order numbers. Order maybe it should be a separate, related table, but not between the general order information and the order details? Can anyone tell me if I'm on the right track for this situation? It was a total curveball that the rep and account information could be different on these orders.

Option 1:
Order (Order #, Customer) -> Transaction Information (Order #, Account Type, Sales Person) -> Order Details (dates, products, quantities, etc)

I am designing queries to return averages for quality test data.

I have this query that functions as I want it too [URL] .....

It returns the averages of all the values received for different tests for a lot number (the lot number criteria should be filled out as well)

When I want the query to be more specific and average only certain box numbers in the lot (that start with the prefix PB") the query does not return an average for box numbers starting with PB but splits them up, showing an average for PB1, PB2 instead of combining the data for those boxes into a single unified average ...

I need an automatic computation of the No. of days until it is closed. Below is the computation I want to have:

If it is not yet closed: [Date today] minus [Date Encountered]
If already closed: [Date Closed] minus [Date Encountered]

I tried using a code builder:

I have a database with a form called "Main" where users input data and then print a report from it. "Main" has fields in it from another form "Members". This data (from "Members") is shown on "Main' by Dlookup coding, and therefore cannot be selected for input by the user. Now, lets say a user inputs data into "Main" and prints the report on 12/30/2012. On the next day, a member's name is changed and I update that data in the "Members" form. On 12/31, I would like to print the report again, but it shows the updated member's name instead of what is was like on 12/30. How can I keep the old data in case I want to print the report in the future like it was initially printed? What do I need to do to any form(s), report or what VBA code needs to be written?

My form respectively subform has a couple of problems related to the recordset as it is available in VBA.

The mainform contains material data, the subform contains the components of that material and a quantity, while the components are materials themselves. The subform's control source is an SQL statement created by the query builder.

Everything worked fine before i replaced the material-selecting combobox in the continuous subform by a textbox and a button. That button leads to another (dialog) form with some filtering options, which in turn returns the number of the selected material. This material gets inserted into the textbox. To this point it works fine.

But when i enter a quantity before i selected a Material, i get an error message after selecting the Material: This Action was Cancelled by an Associated Object. This happens while executing the following VBA Code on click of the material selection button (exact position commented in code):

I assume this is the relevant part, but i have no DataControl (what's that?) and neither found an UpdateControls method in the subform object.

The second error, "no current recordset", occures when i edit an existing component line in the subform that has been added right before (also using the same event and code as mentioned above). If i close the form after adding the component and open it again, it's no problem.

I am looking for a complete working example of a fabricated ADO recordset bound to a form. The purpose of this is to provide a selection tool for records of a table in a multiuser database.

I could do this using a table to store the selections in the db, but I want to get a tool I can reuse in the future, obviating the need for extra tables and keeping track of users and multiple copies of the application ran by the same user.

So far I can display MEMO text, all the other values of my recordset (yes they are present) generate #ERROR in the form controls.Yes I did google. Apparently I am not the only one with this problem, but the solutions range from bizarre to weird.

In the above recordset selection, the ACCESS seems do not allow to have the DATEPART("YYYY") function in the syntax. As CDATE is a table field with date/time data type. Just want to know, how to do this kind of date selection. My purpose is to select all records according to a specific date to the TRANS1 recordset.
