General :: Can Hyperlinks Be Permitted In Long Text Comment Box?
Aug 6, 2013
I have a comment box that was just for text. I have been asked to adapt this to allow a web URL to be typed in which would then become a clickable hyperlink (like typing in a Word document). Is this possible?
I have Field "BC1Chng" which requires user input. I want to be able to write a code to reference to "BC1Chng" if there is an input in that field for any record...I want to copy the Remarks into each record in the Remarks Field.
I was able to get the remarks1 field to loop through each record copying what was in that field into each record.
Now I want it to look at the BC1CHng field and only copy to remarks1 field if there is any input in that field???
What is the difference between "short text" and "long text"? Both seem to have 255 characters limit. I have Access 2013, and I found a solution, that you can use Memo instead of Short text. But the problem is, that there is no "memo" data type in Access 2013. So that won't work for me.
My Db had an email_address field which was a hyperlink. For various reasons I had to change it to a text field. However, now every email shows as: some_email@domain.com#http://some_email@domain.com# Is there a simple way of cleaning this up so I am only left with the email address? In other words is it possible to create an update query to remove everything between # signs (including the # signs)?
---- I found some vba code on the forum which extracts strings but was wondering if there is an easier way just using an update query since I'm still not too efficient with vba
I have an Access form linked to two SQL tables, I had to make a change to the field length/datatype of a field named notes. The form now tells me that the "text is too long to be edited" whenever I try to add data to that Notes field in my form. I went from char to nvarchar... how do I fix this?
Using Access 2010, I have a table the contains a field, MembereMail, that is defined as a hyperlink. I imported data from an Excel spreadsheet which looked to be consistent in format and did not realise that anything was wrong until I wrote some VB code to generate personalised emails with personalised attachments. I then found that some of the hyperlinks worked and some didn't. Those that were essentially text worked, those that were genuine hyperlinks tried and failed to go to addresses prefixed "Mailto:".
I have finally managed to convert all email hyperlinks to text content (although still defined as hyperlinks) and my code works. However when I add a new record to the table through a form, the field still being defined as Hyperlink, it goes in as pure text. I therefore have the need to use the address in both text form and as hyperlink so that the user can click on the field and start an Outlook email as well as my code running correctly for mass mailings.
So a number of questions:
-Why does Access not store the email address as a clickable Hyperlink? -How can I satisfy my two requirements from one field? -Can Access 2010 check the input text to ensure that it is a correctly formatted email address?
I’m working on a form on which I like to place an unbound text box to get a long amount of data. The text boxes in link to a field table having 250-field size. Now, I’d like to be able to use a text box, which will allow me to enter from 800 to 1000 characters. Is that possible in Access 2000?
I have a large spreadsheet with one column of information which is longer than what access accepts as long text. So when I convert the spreadsheet to access all the large boxes of information are shortened so that I am losing a lot of information.
I have a long text box or memo box that I would like to filter but do not know how. How to set up a filtering feature to use for these types of boxes? I have no problems with short text boxes.
I'm having a problem changing the hyperlinks in my access table.the hyperlinks point to locations of various documents on the server i.e. Server Quality DocumentsDoc1.docx
we have 2 domains at work so on one domain the hyper link works but on the other it doesn't.I did a find and replace so i have formatted all hyperlinks as such..Server.mydomain.localQualityDocumentsDoc1.doc x
However, this approach hasn't worked as it has only altered the 'text to display' and not the actual address (if i right click the hyperlink -> edit hyperlink the address is still ServerQualityDocumentsDoc1.docx).Is there away to change the Address fields of all the hyperlinks in one go?
I have Access 2007 and I use to be able to Hyperlink to an object in my database 9no upgrade0 But suddenly this option is not available. What can I do?
I'm trying to save the contents of a text box into a memo field in a table, but after my code runs i look in the field and it is cut off after a hundred characters or so, and the last few characters are garbled. This is the code:
Code: DoCmd.RunSQL "UPDATE orderheaders SET orderheaders.Comments = [Text127] WHERE orderheaders.OrderNumber = " & GlOrderNumber & ""
I have been using Access 2013 to make a database which outputs values to PowerPoint. Everything has been working fine up to now that I'm trying to add to the presentation.
I have two tables with data in which are both brought together in a query which my VBA code relates to to output it to Powerpoint. Both tables contain data in 'long text' fields. The data from one outputs into PowerPoint textboxes without any issues regardless of the length of the data but the data from the other one is truncated to 255 characters. It definitely says it is a 'long text' field - is there any reason it would truncate the output?
I have created some queries that are joined on long text fields (80-120 characters). I can save the query in the graphic query design window. But when I reopen the window I get messages that the Joins have been deleted. I cannot find any references to this issue. Does anyone have experience or info on this?
I don't need a lecture about the use of long text fields in Query Joins. And yes I have used Search first.

I am a pretty novice user currently playing around with Access 2013 using Office 365.
I used to love the old style Memo field where people cut put in carriage returns to split up data. I am wondering if this function has been removed with this LONG TEXT FIELD or is there a way around it.
I like it because I tend to use it as a tracking field and like the newest "comments" at the top separated by a Carriage Return...
I have encountered an issue when I was inserting a string (with newlines about 176 characters) into access table. This field in access has the data type TEXT and it was truncated after the insertion. It is strange because I have three other fields with the same format and no truncation at all. May I know what could be the reason and how/what is the recommend data type for storing long text?
I'm having an issue where when I attempt to export data from an Access database to an excel spreadsheet using VBA it truncates any field longer than 255 characters to the 255 limit. I'm using
to export it (obviously with the table name and filepath filled in) but for some reason I cannot get it to export the entirety of the field to excel. I've been doing some digging on various forums around the internet and it seems as though it may be possible to split it into various excel cells then use automation to concatenate the cells. But considering this field I am trying to get not truncated can be up to 40,000 characters theoretically, it doesn't make sense to do it that way.Do you need more information from me? I'm somewhat new to both Access and VBA.
hello all, I am very new to access (my background is in VBA Excel, but I am not using VBA for access yet). I was wondering if some of the more advanced people can give me pointers on how to accomplish (or work my way) to make the kind of form I am trying to do. What I am trying to do is the following: I have a vending company with couple of products such as espresso, latte, black coffee, etc.. (all of the products are sold at the same price for each customer, so I might sell the products for company A for .75, but for company B for .55 etc) and I am selling these products to many clients company A, B, C, D, etc. As A start I created a table with my products, then I created a table for my clients (this one includes name, address, contact person, and machine number ). I would like to make a readout input form where it would get the customer name, machine number, each of the product's total for the readout period (this is usually every week), and the date of the readout. Now I would like the form to add a record in a table for the client machine number that was selected and maybe also in another table for the overall machine ( I am not sure how queries work, and weather I would need that or I can use queries for it). My ultimate goal is to be able to do the following with the data: - check (and perhaps graph) the overall statistics for a each of the products for all clients - do the same for a certain client - do the same for a certain machine at a client - check the overall sales of all products to all clients for each month of the year - do the same for a particular client or for an individual machine - do the same but for each year
I have done all of this in a VBA Excel based program but I was hoping to change the program to be access based instead of excel based, since this would make the data more centralized and easier to maintain, backup, check, and update.
So if anyone can post any hints or suggestion about how I should build my tables, the usability of quarries, and especially the construction of the forms I would very much thank you for that, since these are my first days getting to know access and I am absolutely confused with it, all the language you are supposed to put into text boxes, combo boxes etc....
Also if anyone knows of any good links to some online tutorials would be great, since most for the tutorials I found on a search was for constructing a for or a query using the wizard, but with no real discussion of how to bound the data to certain fields etc.
I have manipulated the duplicate record code found online to suit my purposes. It works for all the other subforms, however this subform has too many fields so the code goes onto the next line. How do I solve this? Online it says using "& _ " but I can't get it to work. There's basically too many fields to fit on one line so I need to continue the code onto the next line
Code with end of line problems highlighted in red:
If Me.[subformEmissionsControlTarget].Form.RecordsetClone.RecordCount > 0 Then strSql = "INSERT INTO tblEmissionsControlTarget ( System_ID_No, EmissionsStandard, OtherEmissionsStandard, IntakeThrottle, OBDrequired, OBDVersion, DPFregenmethod, ExhaustTemperature, EGRTemperatures, EGRRates, SteadyStateCycle, SteadyStateEngineeringLimitType, SteadyStateLegislativeLimitSmoke,
I have built an Access 2010 split database on my computer and it functions as built. My next step was to copy it to the server at work and test it. I discovered the tables had to be re-linked and so did that. As I have read in the Access World Forums in order to function as a multi-user database a copy of the front end must be placed on the individual workstation with the back end residing on the server, however the hyperlinks in the back end will not function when the copy on the workstation is run. I simply get an unable to open "filename" error pop-up. I can run the server copy and everything functions as built. I know that the hyperlinks require all the files to be in the same folder (relative vs. absolute), but if the back end contains all the hyperlinks why does the location of the front end seem to affect the operation of the back end?
