General :: Cannot Open Database - File May Be Corrupt
Jun 9, 2015
Cannot Open Database". It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt. I have a colleague that is using Microsoft Access to import objects from SQL server but he's getting the above error. I've checked the login my colleagues uses and it has all the right permissions ect but I cannot seem to figure out why this error is still happening. Is it something to do with the SQL server or Microsoft Access?

All of the sudden I get an error message when I try to open my database from a file rather than through Access. If I open Access first and open the file that way, there is no problem but if I click on it from Windows Explorer, I get the error.
See picture.

I had a badly corrupted form in a front end DB. Compact/Repair didn't work. Importing everything into a new DB didn't work .... the db crashed access.
I imported everything except the dud form into a new db and everything was fine. I copied all the fields and controls into a new form.
When it came to copying the VBA, I did it one control/procedure at a time (from the Property Sheet) as I though it was safer.
Was I being over-cautious? Could I have safely copied/pasted all the code in one go ?

I am currently using Access 2010, and have successfully split a database, using the Access wizard.However, whenever a second or third user opens the database - with their front-end database file - they encounter the following message;The Microsoft Access Database engine cannot open or write to the file ". It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view and write its data.
I have researched the internet and see that it has something to do with network permissions. I have worked with my IT department and this appears to be resolved!
Is there a setting I need to check in the front-end and/or back-end copies of the databases?Why is there no file name in the error message?

I have an application which I have split into a database mdb file with the data, and another mdb file with the front end (all the forms, reports, etc). The database file is OK. However, the front end file has some kind of curruption. Running a C/R (Compact and repair) runs clean. The forms and the reports all work OK. But I found a bug in one of the forms, and upon trying to correct it by changing a variable type in the code behind the form, MS Access crashes. I can modify other forms, reports, and modules, but there are about 5 forms (out of about 60) that cause Access to crash.
I have also tried creating a brand new mdb file and copying all the forms, reports, etc out of the corrupted one, but apparently the corruption travels with the forms, because as soon as I copy the forms that make Access crash with the old mdb file, it now crashes with the new mdb file.
Does anybody know of a way to clean something like this, or to export the form and its code so that it can be imported again into anothe mdb? Or maybe someone knows of some program to find and fix these corruption problems in an mdb file?
Anything will be welcome. At this point it is quite a large application and I really don't want to redo it.

after I upgraded to win 7 my database refuses to use an .mda file, to which I refer to (Visual Basic menu, extras). I get the message that I should have installed this .mda file with administrator rights. I am the only user and administrator of my computer, and i cannot install this file (which I bought a long time ago) other than put it either into ....../office12 or into windows/system12 or windows/syswow64.I tried to register it under DOS (with administator rights) with regsvr32.exe but there I got the message that I should check whether this .mda is a 32 or 64 bit version.

Hi all
I have a corrupt MS access 2000 database. It was saved to a flash stick with a compact and repair on close. It seems the flash stick was removed before the compact had completed. Has anyone got any tools that can recover the database? Or maybe point me to some freeware on the net that can recover it?? I appreciate any help.

I use below simple command line to start a macro in my Access database. Usually all works well. I start my bat file, command is executed and macro does its job.
However it always fails if I have a session of Access already opened even if it is a completely different database. If I use below then it opens another sessions of Access but does not execute the macro. I need to go into the second session and run macro manually. It works fine then.
Code:
"C:UsersMeDocumentsDatabas1.accdb" /X Macro

I was successfully using a front end and back end setup for the past two years. Today I needed to push through some changes and "deactivate" the previous back end database and setup a new back end database. The new back end database has been sent; however the front end is not recognizing the back end database anymore. I need to re-link the existing front end to the back end database - I cannot import the front end into a "fresh" file because I put a password on the VBA Editor.

I need to open an Excel file that has been stored in the Access Database using the insert Object functionality of MS Access manually.
What i am aware of is that i cant just read the field containing the Excel File into a Byte Array and pass it to the Excel object in C#,as the file is wrapped in the OLE Wrapper used by Access while inserting the file in database.
I have tried locating the Header of Excel file from the byte array and read the file from there on but it is not working.
while (true)
{
if (0xE11AB1A1E011CFD0 == BitConverter.ToUInt64(byStream, i))
break;
i++;
}
output.Write(byStream, i, byStream.Length - i-1);
byStream is a byte array into which i have read the Excel file from Database.
I am locating the Excel file header in the byte stream and am writing the byte array to a file from that location.But on opening the written file it dosent work.
Similar approach had worked in case of Images but now in this case.
Can some one please tell me as to how i can open the Excel File.
Can I use Interop.Access object to achieve the goal??

We have a new user who is unable to get into a database. Another user in the same office had no problems.
The other user is using:
"C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft OfficeOffice14MSACCESS.EXE" /wrkgrp"ServerNameShareNameSFTPSFTPWorkgroup.mdw" "C:SFTP Database V2.1 FESFTP Database V2.1 FE.mdb
The new user was not able to access the share at all using ServerNameShareNameSFTP until he changed the path to:
"C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft OfficeOffice14MSACCESS.EXE" /wrkgrp"ServerName.ACCT05.us.companyabbreviation.comSha reNameSFTPSFTPWorkgroup.mdw" "C:SFTP Database V2.1 FESFTP Database V2.1 FE.mdb"
Now he can get into the SFTP folder, but when he uses the shortcut, he gets an error stating Microsoft Access couldn't find the file ServerName.ACCT05.us.companyabbreviation.comSha reNameSFTPSFTPWorkgroup.mdw 1" "C:SFTP Database V2.1 FESFTP Database V2.1 FE.mdb" (Note the space and 1)
I created a new shortcut, and I was able to open the db using his target line, even though I can use the shorter one. For the new user, this still generates an error.

I have a field on a form which the user currently has to manually type in the file path to a specific picture on a local drive. After the file path is entered, the path is linked and the picture is shown in an image box. I did this because I didnt want to bog the database down with attached files.
I wondered if I could have a browse button, which when pressed brought up the browse window to allow you to locate the image (using the standard windows browser). Then when you clicked ok, it writes the filename into the correct field on the form.

I've been working on a database for the past month and all of a sudden I'm getting an error "the microsoft jet database engine could not find the object 'database'" and when I click ok nothing is showing (i.e. no project window or anything). I normally do backups on something this large but for some reason I didn't on this one. The size of the file is still large but doesn't look like anything is in it.I've tried opening a new one and link and import everything but I get the same error.

However, when I tried it on another computer I managed to open the database but when I was closing it I got the same message again. The database is working OK, but how do I get rid of the message?

When the task runs all that I see happen is the locking file will appear on my desktop and I have to go to the task manager and kill it to make it stop. I tried a .bat file to open it as well and im still getting the same thing. If I just click on the database and open it manually it runs just fine.
