General :: Cannot Open Database File From Windows Explorer
Jan 9, 2014
All of the sudden I get an error message when I try to open my database from a file rather than through Access. If I open Access first and open the file that way, there is no problem but if I click on it from Windows Explorer, I get the error.
See picture.

Hello everybody, it's been a while since i wrote on the forums and yet again I am in the need to ask for the help of this wonderful community.
I have a form on which is a button that I want when pressed to open a Windows Explorer window displaying the contents of a directory.
The exact way that I want this thing to work is like this : The user is browsing a form of lets say client details and on the form lies the button that when pressed will take the client's name and apply it to the path in order to open that Windows Explorer window and create a path like C:program filesclient name and display the contents of that window.
I would like if possible someone who can point me as to how I can construct this button to work cause I cant see to get it done.
Many thanks for your time :)

I'm a newbie and using Access 2007.
I have added functionality that creates a report, saves it as a PDF, and then sends it to a customer via email as an attachment. The PDF file is saved to a folder and is named to include the Customer's unique customer number and the date and time the PDF was created.
For example, if the customer number is 09 and the date was 10th October 2013 and the time 09.00am, the file name is 0009101020130900.pdf.
What I want to be able to do from within the database is to have a button, that when clicked, will display all of the Pdf's for only customer number 09. The customer number will be based upon a field in the customer record.

Code:
Dim oIE As Object
Set oIE = CreateObject("InternetExplorer.Application")
oIE.Navigate "URL of my Choice"
Do While oIE.Busy Or oIE.ReadyState <> READYSTATE_COMPLETE
DoEvents

Cannot Open Database". It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt. I have a colleague that is using Microsoft Access to import objects from SQL server but he's getting the above error. I've checked the login my colleagues uses and it has all the right permissions ect but I cannot seem to figure out why this error is still happening. Is it something to do with the SQL server or Microsoft Access?

I am currently using Access 2010, and have successfully split a database, using the Access wizard.However, whenever a second or third user opens the database - with their front-end database file - they encounter the following message;The Microsoft Access Database engine cannot open or write to the file ". It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view and write its data.
I have researched the internet and see that it has something to do with network permissions. I have worked with my IT department and this appears to be resolved!
Is there a setting I need to check in the front-end and/or back-end copies of the databases?Why is there no file name in the error message?

Open a specific Windows Folder.I am using this code to open a specific Windows folder ..... and it works perfect:
As String Dim folder
folder = "c: Documents WORD"
Dim Retval
Retval = Shell ("explorer.exe / e, / root," "" & folder & "" "", 1)
... but also need to open in the specified path, taking the data "UserName" of one field in a table:
TABLE: "Assignments" IDEExp, UserName, Date
So instead of going to the folder = "c:Documents WORD" would go to: c: Documents WORDUserName ". In Windows and subfolders are created with UserName1, 2,3,4, etc.

I want to deploy an access database at a small office with 5 computers, small network. However I do not intend to create a server in order to have a domain etc. Operating system is win 8.1 pro. Should I use a homegroup or workgroup ? Would it require password in case of workgroup? Which is a recommended way to setup this and keep some security like a guest cant access these files?

I have used the tree control to acomplish this but the major drawback I have found is it becomes WAY too slow when utilizing large amounts of data due to many embeded loops. Does anyone know an alternative or a way to program the tree control to only add nodes once a selection is expanded?
Basically I want this to operate as a drilldown of infinate levels with the speed of windows explorer. Unfortunatly all the code I have seen requires that all nodes are designated/Created when the form is loaded.
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated

after I upgraded to win 7 my database refuses to use an .mda file, to which I refer to (Visual Basic menu, extras). I get the message that I should have installed this .mda file with administrator rights. I am the only user and administrator of my computer, and i cannot install this file (which I bought a long time ago) other than put it either into ....../office12 or into windows/system12 or windows/syswow64.I tried to register it under DOS (with administator rights) with regsvr32.exe but there I got the message that I should check whether this .mda is a 32 or 64 bit version.

I use below simple command line to start a macro in my Access database. Usually all works well. I start my bat file, command is executed and macro does its job.
However it always fails if I have a session of Access already opened even if it is a completely different database. If I use below then it opens another sessions of Access but does not execute the macro. I need to go into the second session and run macro manually. It works fine then.
Code:
"C:UsersMeDocumentsDatabas1.accdb" /X Macro

I was successfully using a front end and back end setup for the past two years. Today I needed to push through some changes and "deactivate" the previous back end database and setup a new back end database. The new back end database has been sent; however the front end is not recognizing the back end database anymore. I need to re-link the existing front end to the back end database - I cannot import the front end into a "fresh" file because I put a password on the VBA Editor.

I need to open an Excel file that has been stored in the Access Database using the insert Object functionality of MS Access manually.
What i am aware of is that i cant just read the field containing the Excel File into a Byte Array and pass it to the Excel object in C#,as the file is wrapped in the OLE Wrapper used by Access while inserting the file in database.
I have tried locating the Header of Excel file from the byte array and read the file from there on but it is not working.
while (true)
{
if (0xE11AB1A1E011CFD0 == BitConverter.ToUInt64(byStream, i))
break;
i++;
}
output.Write(byStream, i, byStream.Length - i-1);
byStream is a byte array into which i have read the Excel file from Database.
I am locating the Excel file header in the byte stream and am writing the byte array to a file from that location.But on opening the written file it dosent work.
Similar approach had worked in case of Images but now in this case.
Can some one please tell me as to how i can open the Excel File.
Can I use Interop.Access object to achieve the goal??
