I have attempted to create a test environment, by creating a blank database in SQL and restoring a backup of the live environment over the blank database (now called test db). I then took a copy of the Access MDB file, and renamed this to testMDB. I then created a new ODBC link to the test db and refreshed the links to the tables by the importing the tables.
Majority of the system works, but I have noticed that after doing this, the forms that access some tables appear to be 'locked', in that no additional data can be added. The page effectively looks greyed out. If data already exists on this tab, then it can be viewed, but cannot be edited. In the live environment, the form shows an additional line is so that more data can be entered if required and any existing data can be amended.
I have attached two screen shots showing the difference.
I've gotten to a point with my database where I have split it into front and back ends, and then made a copy so that I have a test version and a live version. I have users in live who've started keying data, and I'm working on forms and tables in test that I then copy to live as they are completed. Up to now, I've been just copying the individual item in test, and then pasting it over the version that exists in live (example: I made some changes to a form in test, copied that form, and then pasted over the version of the form that was in live).
Where it gets tricky is that I am also in the process of designing and insurance underwriting feature that's going to be a part of this application. I've set up all the tables in test, and now that I'm working on setting up the relationships, I'm wondering how I'm supposed to copy the relationship setup into live. Am I supposed to be copying the entire front-end from test when I have changes, and replacing the existing "live" front end with it? And if I do that, will I have to edit it every time to keep the new live front end from sending data keyed into it to my test version (had that happen when I initially split it)?
hi, am trying to create an application for a company that has a small call-center (strength 20). the db is in the central server and each caller sits with frontend on their computer. the central DB is shared on the network which these 20 PCs are accessing.
The frontend: 1 Form only which is based on a query that displays records. Form Lock property: Edited Records Query Property: Edited Records
As the telecaller starts calling the customer looking at the records, they are not able to edit certain records as the respective record is locked by MS-Access when am sure that no other telecaller has opened the particular record.
my issue is i have multilble text box in my form & based on change in one of this text box i need the code to compare between data in the form & table & returm Msg if it is not matching. attached screen FYI.
i look in the internet but i could not figuer out the VBA code since i do not know VBA. what comes to my mind to to use select case.
I would like to know in what type of working environment everyone works. i.e. an office with a closed door, a cubicle with high walls, shared cubicle, low-walled cubicle.
I have a Access data base (2007) which i splitted and store the back end database in a file server where all users have full control and the individual copies of front end put in the users computers. Unfortunately when one user is using the programme, others can not use. Following error msg appears. Both back end and front end are running under shared mode ( not exclusive ).
"Could not use xxxxxx_Be.accdb; file already in use."
I have been given a project from work and although I have built multiple databases before, for some reason this one is stumping me. I need to create a database to capture data which was previously being captured on multiple spreadsheets to simplify the statistics program at my company. Each spreadsheet captured key pieces of information, I've attached an example of each. Each sheet needs to be set up so that an individual can enter their information for their location and that one person (me) can enter the full company information. For example the hours form, from this form I need to capture the employee count and manhours, whereas from the district sheet I need to capture contractor hours, vehicle data (second tab), and performance data on a monthly basis. The final entry needs to be able to enter all of the counts on the counts link form in order to create a table similar to the link form.
I currently have the following setup for my database which is working as desired when only being used by one user at a time:
Front end: Access 2010 database in Citrix Back end: SharePoint List
The problem is that only one user can open the Access Database at a time since this action locks the database for other potential users. The locking occurs due to this link to the back end SharePoint list.
allow multiple users to update the SharePoint list through the access database at the same time?
MS ACCESS 2010,i need to create macro, on insert. which will send mail if is selscted specificed value in combo multivalued list.but, i cant access to that field to test it.
I want to use the create date of a file which is stored as a linked table in my Access 2010 database. I have attempted this by creating a query (qrysysObjects) using the MsysObjects and that gives me the filename of the linked tables, well almost - a few are csv files and this does not have the file name in the database field text, but I have found it in the foreignname field except it is name#csv rather than name.csv so I can't simply concatenate this in a query.
I know there is a function called FileDateTime which you can use in vba or a query but can you use a variable with this rather than the actual path name? I tried this in the query qrySysObjects but it said unknown function.
I have a problem with a cleint-Server accessdb that I created and works fine. But rarely (may be once in a week), I get a record lock file (normaly 1kb size) which is not the normal record lock taht appears when the system runs. This file does not get closed even if the db is closed. Also, I can delete it and I can access the db again. when this lock file exists, I cannot access the db.
I have a database with extension .accdb. When I open it, everything is locked. I can't access VB Editor, Navigation Pane, Ribbon, nothing. It just opens a form and the only thing that can be edited are the text boxes on the form. I can't use Shift when opening it, that does nothing. It does not prompt for a password when opening.
I've got a database that is locked down for all users with forms so they can navigate the system and the navigation pane is hidden. On a couple of the forms there are buttons to print the form and when that button is clicked it unhides the navigation pane...???
I have MS access database. The database is password encrypted. I do not own this database but it is critical for me to see the contens of this database. I do not want to edit the contents.
I have a user that is unable to edit records, He can click in the fields but he could not delete or enter data in the fields. He has the ability to edit records but its fields are locked. I created a split database and created a secure front which I distributed it to multiple uses. The other users front end is working fine, expect for the one.
I have a table that is a list of all of my events. Each record of events should have a child table that list all of the things that happened at the event. When a new record (event) is added how can I have a new child table created and linked to that record. Also I have a blank table to serve as a template for what each child should look like. How do I make sure this occurs? The child tables can have the same name as the index. I am just using numbers 1- for the index with 1 being the first event and so on?
I am having some major problems so i thought i would ask you guys out there for some help because i am starting to bang my head against a brick wall.
I have a simple database, well i have 3 but the problem is only occuring on 1. each of these databases sit in a shared folder on the company network. I am trying to allow multiple users access this database but every time a second user tries to open the database they are unable to get access and receive this message
The table 'MSysAccessObjects' is already open exclusively by another user
However i have set the default open mode to be shared.
can anyone help as i really need this database to open in shared mode.
Hi guys, i read about this before but it did not work.
i am trying to hide the access environment but i couldnt. i read in this forum that if i have a bmp with then same name than the db, the picture would replace the access environment. I have done this but the only thing that i achieved was to see the picter before access env. comes and then it desapears and the access env. shows up.
I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me here.
I have a database created in Access .MDB. It operates allright on my machine. However, since this database is done for my client, i have a problem i need to ask for help.
My client doesn't have microsoft office software installed on their machine. So when i passed the database onto them, they somehow can only run it in the run-time environment. Don't ask, I'm not sure about this at all. Anyway, They came back to me saying that they have got a run-time error message in the middle of running the database.
On my end, it's hard for me to debug since it works fine here. I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me how i could have this database run in the run-time environment as my clients do. This way, i could debug the problem.
Is it possible for me to run my access database in run-time environment? how do i do that?
I need to allow my MDB to have 15 users accessing at the same time. They will be updating different parts of the same table using different forms. The system will also do an automatic update from another system in 15 mins interval.
Is it possible? If so, how do I configure my access database?
Has anyone deployed or is anyone using an access database in a shared drive environment over a network? If so, how is the databases performance and what kind of problems/headaches do you encounter in this environment? Thanks.
Hi, Im working on a database that has to be shared by 3 or 4 users. In on of the actions that the database performs, it has to delete records from a table first. When sharing the database, it always asks the users (using access viewer) whether 'they are sure that the want to delete the records'. Does this always happen? And why? How can I get rid of it? Would it matter if I change it from a table to a query?
