General :: Database In Read Only Mode On Server In Access 2010

Jul 18, 2012

I'm working in Access 2010. I created a database that I want to post in a server on the read-only mode, so that users can not change forms or querys. How can I do this in Access 2010?

General :: Split Database With Multiple Users - Read Only Kiosk Mode

Dec 17, 2012

I have two separate database files, a front end with all my forms and a back end with all my tables. The backend is stored on a network drive, is there any way of being able to store the frontend on the drive with the backend? Users do not use the actual computer to store information or access files, everything is usually saved on the network drive. I have created a shortcut that launches the front end database in the read only kiosk mode.

Hosting Access 2010 Database On Windows Server?

Jun 17, 2012

I have a database which is now reasonably finished and am looking slightly ahead at how it can be accessed by the staff. The first clinic has two stations that need constant access to it, namely the clinic area and the reception area. The second clinic is about 3 kilometers distance away from the main clinic and will also need constant access which, I presume, would be by hosting the database on a Windows based Server, to which all three locations would connect and then be able to use the database directly. When I say Windows Server I mean as could be used to host a web site on the Internet rather than use of an internal Intranet system.

Should I split the database and only host the backend part on the server (i.e. the tables)?Does the whole database need to be uploaded to the Windows Server? Is any other software required to make this work?I presume that I would need to introduce record locking? Is this easily done and, if so, how?

General :: Security And User Read / Write Permissions - Access 2010

Jul 19, 2013

I'm a SQL Server DBA and have a few Access 2010 Db's to look after and occasionally have to make amendments to (as is the case today). I've been asked to apply permissions to certain users of the Access database whereby users in a group we're calling 'Viewer' only have read permission and users in another group called 'Writer' (original I know!) have both read and write permission.

The database is form driven (i.e. no-one directly accesses and amends the tables in the database), the file is saved with a .mdb extension.

I've played around with the 'Manage Users & Permissions' in the File Menu however these don't seem to do what I need them to and only result in having to input a user and password to access the database on start-up.

For example, if in a spreadsheet "test" cell A2=3 then in a db "test" a column "value" is 3. However, if the value in the spreadsheet changes so does the db.

Modules & VBA :: Check If Database Is Open (Read Only Mode)

Jul 16, 2015

I would like to be able to check if a db is open and if it is to prevent the user from proceeding.

I use the Access 2013 Runtime. I can check if a db is open by trying to open Exclusively, using something like

Code: [URL] ....

But if the db is already open Not exclusively and I try to open it exclusively it does not raise an error and it allows the user to open the db in Read Only mode.

I would like to be able to prevent this, because careless and/or inexperienced users may open several instances of the db.

Of course, if the db is already open exclusively it does not allow you to open it exclusively another time.

How To: Access 'Query' Screen In Read-only Mode

Oct 25, 2007

Hi to all,

I would like to ask here for advice on MS Access 2000 application.
When a user logs in, he should be able to use the Access 'Query' screen in read-only mode. In other words, he should be able to generate queries by selecting tables and columns, or using the wizard, but the results of those queries may never have any influence on the data in the database. So: SELECT queries only.
Users should be allowed to execute those queries, but are not allowed to access the tables, forms, or any other items directly.
Is there a way to achieve this?

Thank you

Ori

Database Stored On Server Read-only?

May 23, 2014

I have created a database with multiple user and I have stored it on a file server. The remote users have been given read write permission on the server. However when the person opens the database it is read only. I have not to my knowledge made the file read only as I am able to work off the same file from the server. I made sure that no one was using the database when It was opened but it still comes up as read only. She is able to access the database and work in it but she is not able to modify anything and she does have permission within the database to do so.

General :: Split Database Access FE And SQL Server BE

Mar 4, 2014

I am currently working on an application where I am using MS access as my FE and working with linked tables to SQL server BE. I also have a few temp tables within Access that are not linked but needed.

1. What are my steps into making this into a SPLIT DB? I am assume the BE will have my linked tables from SQL and the FE will have my temp tables and forms. Is this correct?
2. Once I split it, then I can make an .ACCDE file for a Mulit User environment, is this correct?

What other steps should I be made aware of?

How To Read PDF File In MS Access 2010

Sep 9, 2014

I am way beyond my skills trying to read these files.

I am trying to read *.pdf files using VBA. I have tried using some code

Code:
Dim AcroApp As Acrobat.CAcroApp
Dim theForm As Acrobat.CAcroPDDoc
Dim jso As Object
Dim text1, text2 As String
'error occurs here stating"ActiveX component can't create object"

[Code] ....

I have set a reference to Adobe 10 Type Library and Adobe Access 3 Type library. I am using Adobe Acrobat Reader X. I now read them by converting to text file and using FileObject to read the text file and VBA text commands to get the right fields.

General :: Error Using Access 2010 Contacts Database Template

Jun 13, 2014

I used the Contacts Database Template to import a comma delimited txt file of contacts data. The template included a number of tables, queries, forms & reports which I did not require. I deleted them leaving only a Table entitled 'Addressbk'. I added an Entry Form using the standard access tools and this works fine with the table. However, on running the access database I get the following error message; 'The form named "Main" is mis-spelled or refers to a form that doesn't exist. My only form is labelled 'Entry Form', so it would appear that one of the forms I deleted must have been named 'Main'. If one ignores the error message the database & entry form function perfectly.

General :: Access 2010 - Database Not Responding When Fields Selected

Jan 8, 2015

For some reason our database keeps "not responding" ...

The application stops responding when:A field is selected that has a input mask

A combo box is highlighted (forcing the drop-down menu to open)

Certain buttons are pressed (in fact all but two trigger not responding, why the two buttons are immune)

if I put a break point on a section of code that runs when I press a button (any button, it doesnt matter) and I then press the button which takes me to VBA, to the break point. Then I press F5 to continue to run the code until the function ends (essentially doing nothing, just running the code to the soonest break point I can in the function and then running the rest of the code as normal...) it all works fine again!!!!

I fixed the issue by creating the function:

Code:
Sub aiuewjgaop()
End Sub

saved the database, deleted the function and then saved the database again.

Access 2010 Table Suddenly Read Only - How To Remove That Restriction

Nov 8, 2014

This application has worked fine in the past, but now I find it stops cold saying a particular linked table is read-only. I've looked around and all I can find in the various forums is how to MAKE a table read-only. Reversing that process seems very difficult.

The application is a copy of another that now exhibits the same problem. Each uses a different data mdb - part of the development I'm doing involves changing a different table. I'm developing changes to the application in this separate copy.

I can't tell if other tables would have this problem - the table in question is the very first used (initialization routine) and I can't get past it without deactivating a bunch of code.

General :: Access 2010 Split Database Hyperlinks Not Working / When Copy Of Front End Moved

Jul 14, 2014

I have built an Access 2010 split database on my computer and it functions as built. My next step was to copy it to the server at work and test it. I discovered the tables had to be re-linked and so did that. As I have read in the Access World Forums in order to function as a multi-user database a copy of the front end must be placed on the individual workstation with the back end residing on the server, however the hyperlinks in the back end will not function when the copy on the workstation is run. I simply get an unable to open "filename" error pop-up. I can run the server copy and everything functions as built. I know that the hyperlinks require all the files to be in the same folder (relative vs. absolute), but if the back end contains all the hyperlinks why does the location of the front end seem to affect the operation of the back end?
