General :: Database Startup Error On Only One Computer

Jul 10, 2013

"The key or key combination ^{Break} in FunctionKey_SubForm has invalid syntax or is not allowed"
- -
The "FunctionKey_SubForm" is a macro in this database.

It only does it on my computer when I opens this specific database.

This database works fine (copied it elsewhere) on everyone elses computer and also when I use it one another computer, whether the database is on the server or on the C: drive.

Since it works fine on all other computers, it's a setting in Access which is throwing up the error (even if it is " invalid syntax or is not allowed"), not the database.

Database works fine after I click through it but it's irritating and I don't recall changing anything.

I have a problem with write conflict error. The database is functioning normally and without any problems but on particular computer. the systems are same (windows 7) with office 2010.I have a form with subform based on query. Changing the records in a subform is without any problems, but on one particular computar, I am allways receiving Write conflict error message. When I copy / paste the database from the wrong computer to another one, everything is OK. When I copy / paste it back to problematic computer, the problem is back also.It seems, that the problem is maybe somewhere in settings of this computer.

2455 Error - One Particular Computer

Jul 12, 2006

Hi -

I have a form used to enter criteria for display of records on a subform. There is a refresh procedure that is used to update the subform. This procedure is called on load as well as after changing any of the criteria.

This has worked fine on multiple computers running both Access 02 and 03. However, one of my clients has a machine that seems to choke on this procedure. I get the following error message -

"2455: You entered an expression that has an invalid reference to the property Form/Report"

The procedure called is:

Private Sub RefreshSubform()
Dim strSQL As String
strSQL = "SELECT * FROM qryProjectsCases"

If Not (IsNull(BuildFilter)) Then
strSQL = strSQL & " WHERE " & BuildFilter
End If

' Me.frmsubProjCases.Form.RecordSource = strSQL
' Me.frmsubProjCases.Form.Requery

Forms!frmCaseList!frmsubProjCases.Form.RecordSourc e = strSQL
Forms!frmCaseList!frmsubProjCases.Form.Requery

End Sub

The error occurs at the line where I try to set the record source property for the subform. Note there are two commented lines, this was the original code and experienced the same error. Both methods of referencing the form generate the same error (on this one particular machine - both work on the other machines).

The function BuildFilter generates a SQL string based on the various criteria on the main form. I have even tried setting SQL to a constant, but still get the error.

I have checked to see if the References are complete, but don't find any missing.

Any suggestions?

- g

Copying Access Database To Another Computer

Feb 12, 2007

I have a database built using Microsoft Access 97-SR2. I want to copy it to another computer (my office computer). I was successful in burning the file to a CD-R disc. However, when I run the database from the disc, a message appears saying its READ ONLY-it apparently makes it Read Only automatically. I want to be able to change and edit the data and the controls, ie. forms, reports, etc. on the other computer. How can I transfer the database my other computer, without it becoming Read Only?

Any help would be appreciated

General :: Moving DB To Another Person's Computer?

Dec 31, 2014

I have a search form built that depending on the dropdown selection on the form, it will run a query to SQL Server 2008 and provide data. There are 5 SQL Server db's so there are 5 different queries. I have each SQL Server linked to the Access DB. When I moved to someones else's computer I got a ODBC Call Failed message. In order to fix this, I had to recreate the links on that person's machine, then change the SQL code in the query with the new name of the linked DB.

Access 2007 / Moving Database To Another Computer?

Nov 18, 2011

I'm using Access 2007 which I built a database that runs queries off of tables using ODBC. The database is all done in ms access, I've used no visual basic programing on it. I'm now trying to move a copy of the database to another computer's local drive in the office. When we try to open it on the other computer it gives me an error that says "There was a problem sending the command to the program" and Access hangs, which I then have to run task manager to end the program.

Specs Are: Windows 7 64bit (the db was created on Windows 7 32bit)

Microsoft Access Version 2007

Forms :: Error On Startup Due To Display Form

Aug 9, 2013

I have been building a new db in my personal drive at work which has been working perfectly, until I transfer it to the main network drive so that others can use it.When I try to open it, I now get an error saying that windows cannot access the file (code 0x80070002) - although it does in fact open it anway, eventually.

I have removed and re-instated various bits of code, and discovered that it's linked to the 'Display Form' function within Access Options > Current Database, that I have used to open the form 'Homepage' when the db is opened. When the dropdown is set to 'None', the db opens fine, but when a form is selected, the error occurs. I have tried using an AutoExec macro to open the Homepage form, but this generates the same error too.

Computer Hangs Accessing Network Database Files

Oct 6, 2004

And yes I now that's the title of a Knowledge base article, I stole it because it put into words what I can only say in expletives right now.

Basically, well it's all a bit odd.
I got users on the network who, until yesterday, could access some networked databases. Other files from the same source are ok, just Access files.
Today the moment they click (and I mean a single-click) on the icon to open the database...explorer hangs.
You can't open the database from within MS Access either, that hangs too. But you CAN open them up and use them if you can get them copied locally.
Oh yeah, some people (in the same room, on the same VLAN) can access the database, but can't perform any tasks within it.
Databases are a mix of 97 and 2000.
And to make matters worse, it's happening on another server.

I know you're gonna shout virus, but that looks to be a non-starter since I know of no such virus which would affect ONLY Access files and do it on a single click, and secondly The systems check out fine with both Sophos (and our good luck charm AVG) run against them.

Holy Moley! Has anyone ever come accross such a palarva?

General :: Error With Accde Database

Dec 23, 2013

I have a working database which runs fine in accdb mode. But when i compile it and run the accde file I get the error "The expression you entered has a function name that XXDB nameXX cant' find."The problem is that the autoexec macro cannot find the VBA public function that is called with runcode command.

The accde file is running in the same folder as the accdb. It is a split database, I am only working on the Front End..I have tried, amongst others:

- Creating a new vba module and copying all the functions across

- Renaming the target function

- I reckoned there was a corruption somewhere, so I created a blank database and imported all the form/code/etc across from the broken version, which imported fine. The accdb ran but the compiled version failed again

Startup Options/Database Password

Jul 28, 2006

Hello,

I have a database with certain startup options for the end user. What I
would like is for the database to prompt for a password ONLY IF the shift key
is used to try and bypass the startup options, so that only an authorized
person with the password can see the background of the database. If I simply
set a database password from the Tools menu, it asks for that password with
the startup options as well, and I actually locked myself out of a database
that way! So there needs to be some kind of check for whether or not the user
attempted to bypass the startup options, and based on that, ask for a
password or not. I am not sure if I can do this through Access options
directly, or I will require some coding, but either method is fine.

Please help!

Thank you,
Kriti

General :: Error When Splitting Access Database

Feb 15, 2013

I have created a db for a nonprofit counseling org. I had created the first half, mostly administrative tasks, called Phase1, and put the BE on a network drive and the FE on multiple users. Now in developing the clinical portion, Phase2, I linked to four of the tables in Phase1 BE file.

Now I tried to split Phase2 the same way as Phase1 and got an error "Subscript out of Range". I think because of already having some external links in it. I checked for the file and Access actually created the BE file for the new phase2, all of the tables are in it minus the four I was linking to. But, access didn't create a FE file. The original still has all of the objects, tables and forms etc. My question is; can I link to the tables in the new BE file even though those tables still exist in the original file?

General :: Database Opening With Out Of Memory Error

Nov 14, 2014

In the database that I use at work sometimes when we OPEN it we get an immediate error saying out of memory, therefore we close it and reopen and all is good.

This is a problem when the average user logs on as they don't close it, they just continue on and then start experiencing issues.

I thought that the memory was supposed to clear when you close the database.

We run the debugger and no errors are ever found, we also run the compact and repair.

This can happen 1 in 10 or maybe 20 times when we open the database.

Database Window Not Closing With Startup Menu!!!

May 10, 2006

MS Access 2000

Hello everybody,

I am having a strange problem and despite trying out all the suggestions already discussed in this forum, the problem still persists.

My DB is already complete and I have done the following
1) Startup menu/uncheck all the option boxes
2) Tools menu/options/unchecked "windows in taskbar"
3) converted the DB into mde. file
4) Disabled the shift key
However, despite doing all the above, the "Database windows" shows up behind all the forms.

As per suggestions given by many here, I have also used

DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdWindowHide

This also does not work.

Also tried running the following in a macro from this link
http://www.mvps.org/access/api/api0019.htm

All the above have not worked and if anyone has any ideas or another way of doing this, I would really appreciate it.

Adding Attachments Without Bypassing Database Startup

Dec 12, 2013

I have a split database, using Access 2010, Sharepoint is 2007 I believe. I have a form where I can enter requests onto a log and I've set it up to allow attachments. However, I get an error of "Cannot update. Database or object is read-only." if I try to add/remove attachments on a record. I have no issues adding and updating the data other than the attachments.

I've also found that if I bypass the start-up options (using shift) then the attachments work fine. Unfortunately, through trial and error, I haven't been able to find a database option which I can enable and fix the problem.

How to have this functionality enabled without bypassing startup (I've only intended to do basic things like hide the nav pane).

However, on running the access database I get the following error message; 'The form named "Main" is mis-spelled or refers to a form that doesn't exist.
