General :: Distributed Application - Variable Screen Sizes?
Mar 26, 2013
Is there a means of making an application grow/shrink to accommodate different screen sizes? eg. not all users of a distributed application will necessarily have the same screen size.

We keep a backend and a master frontend of a database on a network drive and distributed a .mde version of the frontend to the users who save a copy of it on their hard drive. There is a separate version table on the frontend and backend of the database for version comparsion. Whenever there is change on the master frontend, I shall change the version # on those tables and make a new .mde file on the network.
When user open their own mde frontend, there are scripts to check its version with the master frontend on the network and any mismatch will trigger off the following scripts (on the default form) to replace the old version with a new one from the network.
Private Sub Form_Load()
Dim strFEMaster As String
Dim strFE As String
Dim strMasterLocation As String
Dim strFilePath As String
' looks up the version of the front-end as listed in the backend
[code]....
This process works fine for everyone in Access 2010. However, these scripts appear to have conflicts with Win 7 when users upgraded to the O/S. They keep getting database unstable error message and the process fails to work. Whether we can change the scripts to make them compatible with Win 7?

All access application is realized as MDI container. (if I'm right)
In this case it is possible to set the MDI object background image instead develop splash screen. This picture always in background form open another forms or reports, does not depend on the screen resolution, etc, etc ... Splash screen must be removed in order to realize the other forms or reports.
How to set Access 2013 application backgroundimage, and backgroundImageLayout?

I have an Access Database of around 8MB. However, after a day's use, this file size increases to around 110MB. If I run a Compact and Repair, the file returns to it's usual size. The first time I noticed this, the file had reached a size of 2GB which is a bit alarming. The file does get used but only appending around 50 records a day and making some amendments. What could be causing this increase?

Hi,
I have an MS Access database on a server which acts as a back end, with about 30 users using the data. They each have a copy of the MS Access front end located on their PC's.
Every time I make a change to the front end, I have to redistribute the new version to each PC.
What I am wanting to do is put a single copy of the front end on the server, and adding a shortcut to this front end on everyone's PC's. This would allow me to make changes to the front end without having to redistribute to all users.
What I was wondering is, if I put a single copy of the Front end on the server and simply shortcut to that front end, will it cause any problems, or are there any issues that I should look out for?
Any help or advice much appreciated!

I want to display the message "Processing Record ? of ???..." on the screen while my vba code is running without interruption. Since the msgbox requires the user to click a button to continue, what is the simplest way to display this message on the screen without interrupting the program or requiring user interaction?

I am trying to build a Multi Search Screen and just do not know how to achieve this. what I want the application to do is:
1) I Created a main form for data entry called 'Orderfrm'
2) The Orderfrm Field EmpNo - I created a Search Button.
3) Users to enter the Employee No or Surname or FirstName (multisearch) and hit the search button to search for the relevant employee.
4) I would like then to open a 'SearchFrm' with the details of the employee.
5) If it is more than one employee - the system to list them all
6) users will select the correct employee details and finally the system to autofill the details in 'OrderFrm'
I am attaching the database.

I have tried to make a login screen, I have also searched for information and tried some of the examples but, I just can't get one to work.
Is there someone or somewhere where I can get information on how to build one step by step in simple easy instructions....(access 2003).
Also, how do you get access to open all the windows, tables, queries etc in full screen mode.
I have expaneded them and shut it down and then reopened it but they still want to open out of full screen mode.
Thanks, everyone has been a great help in creating my first Access program.

I want to wrap up an Access 2013 desktop app so that the user only sees the splash screen. I can get rid of the Navigation pane, but not the Ribbon or the Quick Access toolbar. At this stage I do not want to split the db or prepare it for distribution. I don't really want to generate a custom ribbon, as I shall need the standard one for development.I'm sure this used to be easy back when I last used Access (97), but cannot believe that I cannot find it anywhere in 2013.

Is there anyway to bring up the on screen keypad or on screen keyboard from Access when running Windows 8 on the desktop? It would really be useful if someone was on a tablet wanting to input data in a text box if could automatically invoke the onscreen keyboard. By default when running applications on the desktop in Windows 8, one has to manually bring it up. I would like to include a touch option so every time wanted to enter data, they would not have to manually touch display keyboard option. A number pad like in excel for iPad would be even better. If text field would bring up keyboard, if number field, it would bring up number pad.

Our client has about 10 end users on Terminal Serve, and they occasionally get white screen error. The event log show following error message
"The program MSAccess.exe version 14.0.7104.5000 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Problem Reports and Solutions control panel. Process ID: 51cc Start Time: 01cfb681b4d13efe Termination Time: 0" Event ID 1002.
Server has MS Access 2010 (SP2) runtime installed. The error happens randomly, and happen on a particular form. When user has updated form details, click EXIT button, the white screen occur.

I have a database that logs people in and out. Works great unless the user minimizes the navigation page and clicks the X on the main Access Page. I have to keep the minimize button active on my nav page.
Is it at all possible to disable the main access page for the user?
If not, is it at all possible to set a logout macro to the X button on the main page?
If not, is it at all possible to set a logout macro to activate on "Quit Access"?

I found the way to make my app absolutely (???) secure. But there is one problem I can't find a solution: how to prevent anyone to sneak in my app?Of course it is possible to hide the VBA but I found nothing about the Access objects.

When my database application is closed a parameter box pops up asking for parameter from text16 but only if the Navigation Pane is hidden.
Some information:
The application starts with a login screen that has a hidden text box (text16) that allows me to limit what users can access throughout the database by setting it as the query criteria.
If a form is open that is gathering its data from one of these querys and you try to close the application the parameter box opens which is simply annoying for my users who do not know about access.
The interesting thing about this is that if I unhide the Navigation Pane and close the application with one of these forms open it closes fine with no parameter box pop up.
The goal is to have the Navigation Pane hidden and the parameter box not pop up.
Added information if the navigation pane is hidden I can use a command button with a macro that closes all open forms then quits application and this does not cause the parameter box to pop up.
So another fix for my problem would be to disable the "X" close button at the top right of the application.

Okay so I created a database inventory. I know I can turn it into a "application" making it a EXE file. I was wondering after that being done could I burn that into a CD? So it would boot from the CD. Pretty make it work like a program application as in word, excel, etc..

The application was unable to start correctly (0x00007b)not sure it's an Access issue exclusively. What fix to apply (is it a Registry entry that's corrupted perhaps?).

Trying to lock down an application by saving as ACCDE file. Saves OK but when you load application none of the controls work. I.e. button clicks do not launch "Open Form" or " Print Report" commands. But in ACCDB format application works flawlessly.
When I tried on a different machine I get an error message that says too many Table IDs. Odd since I only have 3 forms, 3 tables and 3 reports. Lots of DoCmd's and switching between the 3 forms but not sure why this would create "too many Table IDs"?

I do IT support for different companies.
I have had a client moving to a new server a couple of months ago.
They have a small access application that reads csv files and exports them into Sage format that can then be imported into their accounts program - it also reports the total invoiced (whatever is inside the data CSV file) and has a printer friendly report with all the invoices inside said data CSV file.
The issue I have is that since the little app was moved to the new server - it stopped working.
I think somewhere in the code / options there is place to state the working path for the app. I think the app is trying to read the input data file from the old shared folder and thus not working anymore.
I can post the code and a sample CSV file. Specially because I did find a place with the old path and changed it to the new file share and it still didn't work.

I do not know Microsoft Access that well when it comes to development.
A colleague and myself have inherited a project that requires us to research an application developed in Access.
We both have worked at SQL Server Administrators. All we have been provided is an .mdb.
The .mdb opens right up into the form view if you will.
When working with Access many years ago I know there are other views to Access when it comes to design, tables and relationships.
Does the .mdb need to be unlocked or opened in another way?
