General :: Erasing Text From Textbox Upon Enter Without Deleting Variable Value
Mar 21, 2014
I have a form that has a textbox in it. I enter text into the text box by scanning a bar code. I then use openreport.cmd to pass the variable in the text box to the report I generate. The report then has a button that when clicked references the variable that I passed to it.
Essentially the problem I am having is that when I set the textbox back to blank, it also erases the contents of the new variable created. I want to either delete the value from the textbox upon scanning the bar code each time, or highlight the value in the textbox for it to be deleted upon the first key stroke. I had read about setting focus to the textbox, but I have been unable to get that to work. Here is my current code for what I am doing.
I have a textbox called txtcomments on my form. It is bound to a table field defined as Memo. Now i normally would enter text and produce a report from the comments in my table.
I want to be able to enter text like this in my form, so that my report can be formatted like this: All in one textbox (memo table field). Like this:
*************in my txtbox************************ Accomplishments
Etc Etc Etc
Current / Upcoming Work
Etc Etc Etc
Risks / Challenges
Etc Etc Etc
***************end of txtbox*********** Is this possible? If not, how do you think i can achieve this? I am open to suggestions, please help :D
I have a database structure with a series of queries which are all inter-linked.
I want my database to be user friendly, what is the cleanest way to be able to enter a single variable eg as a criteria for a query - say the date, rather than having to change it in a series of queries manually, can I call it from somewhere?
i have got a query that returns the top 100 results. i would like to link this to my report form where i have a text box that you can enter a number and the query returns the first of that ammount rather than going into the query everytime to adjust the results.the sql of the query is as follows
PHP Code:
SELECT TOP 100 tblClientDetails.FirstName, tblClientDetails.Surname, Sum(tblOrdersItems.Cost) AS SumOfCostFROM (tblClientDetails INNER JOIN tblOrders ON tblClientDetails.ClientDetailsID = tblOrders.ClientDetailsID) INNER JOIN tblOrdersItems ON tblOrders.OrderID = tblOrdersItems.OrderIDWHERE (((tblOrders.OrderDate)>DateAdd('yyyy',-1,Date()))) GROUP BY tblClientDetails.FirstName, tblClientDetails.SurnameORDER BY Sum(tblOrdersItems.Cost) DESC;
I am new to access and have been staring at the same Run-time error for 3 days (pathetic I know). I cannot for the life of me figure out why it does not like my Dlookup. Esentially, I want and After Update event in my combo box to populate a Rich text textbox in my form. After reading DLookup is the easiest way to make this happen. Here is my code:
How do i save a record as soon as text is entered into the textbox in a form?I need it to save without moving on to the next form without having to click a button
I'm having trouble with a Form and getting a text box entry box (Date entry) default to the date entered on the last record, which is linked to a table.
The only way I can get it to work is to type the date into the Text Box's Default property, for example, #11/13/13".
How to get the correct syntax or code into the Default property of the Text Box to make this work? I only want the entry to change versus the previous record/entry if the User changes / enters a new date.
I have a textbox and a command button by this textbox that performs an action based on the value in this textbox when clicked.
I want to be able to press the enter key after entry into the textbox and have it perform the same thing the command button does.
I tried Calling the commndbutton procedure from the OnEnter event from of textbox, but it tries to process as soon as i "start entering data into the textbox". I hope i am clear? How do i achieve this, so that by pressing the enter key after entering a value in my textbox, my textbox value is processed, instead of clicking the command button.
This is just to enhance usability. Any help will be mucho appreciatied :D
I have a form with 5 buttons on it. Each button is meant to select a warehouse location, so a query can be run to give an inventory report for that location. There is a separate query for each button and the OnClick event does properly modify the recordsource to give the appropriate data to the report for the location selected.
To this functionality I want the OnClick event VBA to pass the warehouse location to a textbox on the report, so the title of the report reflects that inventory location.
My code thus far is:
Private Sub Command5_Click() Dim mySQL As String Dim WHSE As String mySQL = "SELECT [Master Part List].[Part Number], [Master Part List].Category, [Master Part List].Description, [Master Part List].MaterialCost, [Master Part List].Inventory, [Master Part List].Update, [MaterialCost]*[Inventory] AS [Total Cost], [Master Part List].Warehouse"
[Code] ....
When I get the report, the textbox is empty, instead of containing the text value for the warehouse location.
I am trying to clear a textbox after the user enters an invalid date and I do not know why the following code is not working:
Private Sub txtStart_AfterUpdate() If Not IsNull(Me.txtStart) Then If Not IsDate(Me.txtStart) Then MsgBox "You have not entered a valid date" Me.txtStart = Null Me.txtStart.SetFocus End If End If End Sub
Any way (VBA script, etc) to make it mandatory for a user to enter data in a textboxes in a form before proceeding to the next record on a form? I know I am able to do this in the table by selecting the value "Yes" in the Required area in the General Tab but I was wondering if there is a VBA script you can enter it in a form instead.
On attachment is an Access Database in winzip. In the __Property form, I want to make it madatory for users to enter data in the County Shapefile Gross Acres, Township, Mineral Severance Tract, and Unit name fields before proceeding to a new record. If data is not entered in these textboxes for these field, then a person will not be allowed to go to the next record.
i how i can get some help with this one, i have imported a txt file, once input into a table it has the fieldname inserted along with the data so for example record_id is the name of the field and in each column i have "record_id=###" the # respresent unique numbers. but what i am looking at doing is creating a "create table query and using an expressions like... "left([record_id],"=") but this won't work.
All the data in the columns has the same thing all have the field name with a = then the data i really need.
Is there a function in Access that will clear out the <100,894> leaving me with Joe Doe? To my understanding the Replace function only can replace certain characters. How can I delete everything in between the < > as well?
I have an unbound text box. I put a value, run an append query and append the value to the table. I want to know if I can delete the value in the text box automatically when the append query excutes. I am using a macro to run the append query.
I have a table of 1216 records. The Title fields contain extra notes which I would like to remove. All of the notes have /'s around them. I would like to remove all of the text between the /'s and all of the /'s themselves.
Example: ACCOUNTS OF CHEMICAL RESEARCH /ALL EXCEPT JAPAN/ /FOR INSTITUTIONS/
Should be: ACCOUNTS OF CHEMICAL RESEARCH
I don't know how to do this, but I can do it in MS Excel or Access--whichever one is easier.
I created a database to track test requests from engineers. They fill out a form and things work from there. Well to increase the speed of them inputting requests, because some are virtually the same, with the exception of one item, I use a a copy record query. This works fine because after I run that I run an update query that changes the information that needs to be changes. My issue is that sometimes the user creates one too many requests. So the last copy query isn't needed. What I would like to do is somehow when they leave the form or access is to delete the unnecassary record. It doesn't come up as a new record and since nothing has been changed the form ins't dirty either. how to check if this record is meant to stay without asking the user.
I certainly have methods at my disposal that I can use along with interations from the user to get the results I want. I am just trying to avoid this if I can. I am just wondering besides checking if its a new record or if its dirty what other options do I have, if any?
Is it possible to use <enters> in text or varchar fields?? In this way users can easily switch to the next line instead of typing everything all together
I have a temporary table within my access database. I have a macro button that makes the table (thus deleting the old one in the process) and then appends information from three other queries to it.I want to stop the standard warning message from coming up. The message I get is below. I have already cleared the action queries check box so the warnings for the making table (if no previous table exists) query and appending data query have disappeared. However the below message still pops up when the make table query begins to try and delete the old table. How I can make it go away?
"The query you are about to run is a make-table query. Unlike most queries that displays data in Datasheet view, a make-table query creates a table and copies specific records from one or more tables and queries. If the table already exists, the query will replace the structure and contents of the table. If your intention is to create or replace a table, click Yes. To avoid being prompted when you run such queries, click the File tab, then click Options. In the Access Options dialog box, click Client Settings. Under Editing, clear the Action queries check box.
