General :: Errors With Simultaneous Multiple Users?

Jan 13, 2014

I have a simple access database that 26 clerks in my office use to enter their weekly tasks. The database is split into a front end and back end, with the back end stored on a shared drive that we all have access to. We have been testing the database for 3 weeks with 5 clerks and no issues. This week is the first week that all 26 have used it, and immediately we encountered a problem.

I think the problem is happening because one of the tables in the database is linked to an excel spreadsheet. When multiple users try to use a dropbox that is linked to this table simultaneously they get an error message. I saved the excel file as a shared file, but this did not correct the problem.

I made a copy of the database before I split it. I know I can fix this if I import the excel spreadsheet into a copy of the database, link this table to the dropboxes, split it again, and redistribute it.

would like to leave the front ends linked to this spreadsheet, because we update it regularly. If not, we will have to have somebody update that particular table in the database intermittently.

Errors With Access File For Multiple Users?

Jun 20, 2012

I'm having trouble opening up the tools I am developing in Access for multiple users. I split all my databases so the users will only interface with the "Front End" and I just tried saving one as an ACCDE file. I had the ACCDE file open on my machine and asked another person in the office to try opening it (all our files are stored on a network drive, which is already identified as a trusted source).

She got the following error message:

"The database cannot be opened because the VBA project contained in it cannot be read. The database can be opened only if the VBA project is first deleted. Deleting the VBA project removes all code from modules, forms, and reports. You should back up your database before attempting to open the database and delete the VBA project"

How do I fix this? I don't want to publish several Front End Access files since each person in my office will ask me to customize their file and my supervisor wants everyone working off the same file. I thought the point of Access was that multiple users could open the same file and make data modifications. How do I achieve this while retaining all the fun, creative VBA solutions I have developed?

Some Users Getting Errors Opening DB

Nov 2, 2006

A few of my users are getting the error "The Microsoft Jet database engine could not find the object 'MSysDB'. Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and path name correctly."

The access version is 2002, but at the top it says "(Access 2000 format)".

I don't get this error, it is only on two of 8 computers that the error occurs.

Help! Thanks.

General :: Multiple Users With Only One Front End

Aug 12, 2013

Currently the system where I work is set up so that everyone has their own front end on the local network. I would like to change this because updating all of them takes a lot of time for me and skill level for users is too low for me to trust them with updating it on there own.

My question is this:

If I were to create a shortcut on everyone's desktop that linked to one front end would this be wise? I can't seem to get a straight answer from anywhere on the internet. I know most places say that it is better to have the actual front end on the staffs computer but that would make my job of keeping the database updated even worse because staff have multiple computers and this isn't my full time job.

If this is okay practice how many users would this be able to sustain? Currently we only have 6 users on the database with there own front end and it works great. I am planning on adding around 10 more users in the future but if needed they could have there own database as they are separate programs.

General :: Multiple Users On Front End Database

Oct 22, 2012

I've prepared a front end database with forms that allow data to be keyed into linked tables to my main databse.

However, currently the front end database only allows 1 user to do it at 1 time and when another user tries to open the file, an error "The Database Has Been Placed in a State by User on Machine That Prevents It From Being Opened or Locked'

Is there anyway to allow multiple users to use the front end database at the same time?

General :: Multiple Users On Access Sheet Simultaneously

Jun 25, 2013

I recently made a database that we will use to allocate appointments between a team of up to 30 in 2 different sites. I have tested it with 10 people in the same site using it and have had no issues so far.

One of our managers wants to know whether it is likely to cause issues with network usage/congestion. When we introduce it to the other site. I told her it is unlikely, but went to our IT department for their opinion. I got a reply simply stating that Access is not intended for this sort of task, and is only designed to have a couple of people using it at a time.

I'd like a second opinion, because I don't think that answer is even close to correct. I'll describe briefly how it works and what our set up is.

The database has 2 tables, one that stores the details of the clients we call (7 fields), and another that logs each contact attempt (6 field) and ensures no 2 users get the same entry. I have split the database, with the backend saved on one of our networked drives, and the frontend will be distributed in an email. (at present it is just an unsplit database stored on a network drive, but I don't think this will work well when 2 different sites are using it).

I think data throughput will be minimal, but I don't know how I'd go about checking that. Would you expect any issues with this being used by 30 people simultaneously?

General :: Split Database With Multiple Users - Read Only Kiosk Mode

Dec 17, 2012

I have two separate database files, a front end with all my forms and a back end with all my tables. The backend is stored on a network drive, is there any way of being able to store the frontend on the drive with the backend? Users do not use the actual computer to store information or access files, everything is usually saved on the network drive. I have created a shortcut that launches the front end database in the read only kiosk mode.

General :: One User At A Time - Prevent Multiple Users Accessing The Database

Feb 13, 2015

Twice a year, a database of mine is accessed and put too use by various staff within a time range of 1 week. the database is on a shared drive and in a location which can be accessed by all.

The staff access the database from different workstations and in some instances at the same time.

This has only led to issues in the database being copied and then confusing staff on what database to click on thus i have 2 databases which i then have to sift through and copy/paste into the correct one.

I want to know the best way i can:

1) Prevent multiple users accessing the database at a time.
2) making a copy of the original and typing into a separate database.

Multiple Query Errors

Jul 26, 2007

Hi all,

Resolved the date range issue, thanks, now I have a problem with the query results.
I have a query based upon several other queries that have the StaffID and the linking factor. When I combine some of the queries it works fine, but with others, seemingly those that have no valves or data in the tables, the query brings back no results what so ever.

The queries are running a simple count of records so they have, StaffID input, date range and it counts the records for that staff member within the date range. The second query gives a sum of the count of the first query.
But when I try to combine the queries so that I can produce a report for multiple work areas for audit, I hit problems, is there another, easy way for me to do this, maybe creating a report from invididual query results and only combining them for the report itself.

HELP! Can not attach actual db because of sensitive nature of the information contained, but would be willing to create a like db as sample.

Thanks for any assistance!

Simultaneous Entry Of Records

Nov 29, 2006

Hi,
I am facing an issue as described in the following:

Scenario:
I have an assignment where the client requires to store its customer detail electronically (ie In soft copy). (e.g Last 5 years data are in hard copy/hard Form format).

They require an application that will help them to enter 10,00,000 records (customer details) in a given span of time.

They have suggested that almost 70-80 operators will work simultaneously in respective console to enter customer information.

Now, every active customer has account number. New customers are given account number from inactive ones.

So, there is a high possibility that while operator1 enters new customer detail and at the same time operator2 while attempting to enter the old customer detail of the same account number will not be allowed as the account number is unique.

My concern is:
With such a huge number of records to enter, will the application get slow. I plan to develop it in access_FrontEnd and SQLserver2000_BackEnd.

I wish to validate account number search: ie when operatorX attempts to add customer record to database it will first check if the same account number already exists.

If I am able to make anyone understand my concern.

Any suggestion is highly appreciated.
Any suggestion in the design aspect…

Thanks,
Prodigy.

OleDBConnection Errors, Multiple .ldb Locks On Database

Feb 26, 2005

I've developed a ASP.NET website which connects to a secured access database (user/pwd combos with an .mdw file) and allows users to enter data into the database. After the "due date" the system is locked and the database is transferred to a local computer via FTP for processing. Using a VB program and MS Access Reports, the data is printed out in a convenient format and distributed.

Recently, the more users that use my system the more frequently I've encountered problems with connecting to the database. I've been told that access databases are not designed to be used in a multiuser environment and that I should use MS SQL or mySQL instead.

My users report occasional errors and the debug information on the error page shows an 'unspecified error' prompted by a OLEDBConnection object's open method. Secondly, occasionally in the FTP site I see .ldb locking files with 10-20 locks on the database and the .mdw file held by the web application. I'm using a utility class that connects to the db in the constructor and closes the connection in its finalize method.

Code:Protected oConnection as OleDbConnectionProtected Sub Initialize() sConnString as String sConnString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0....the rest of the connection string with data source and passwords oConnection = New OleDbConnection(sConnString) oConnection.Open()End SubProtected Overrides Sub Finalize()oConnection.Dispose()End Sub

First, is there something wrong with this code? Is it not being run at the initialization and finalization of each page load? Secondly, is there any way to avoid db connection errors without moving to ms sql?

Thanks

Forms :: Inventory - Allow Users To Update Multiple Fields For Multiple Assets

Sep 25, 2014

I want to create a form that allows users to update multiple fields for multiple assets. Below is what I came up with:

Ideally, I'd like the subform to be filled in by having the user select multiple Assets from the S/N combobox field which would then auto-populate the "Type" field. Then they would fill out the appropriate fields they want edited in the top part of the form. They hit save and magic happens. This would also be nice because only assets they want edited would be displayed (easier on the eyes) and no distinguishing would be necessary. To do it this way, I know I would need to use a temp table but I wanna avoid using temp tables.

I know I can do this by adding a Yes/No field in the "Asset" table, setting the "Asset" table as the subform's recordsource, and then putting a checkbox in the subform and allowing them to check the assets that they want to edit (which would also allow me to sort it instantly so that checked Assets are at the top of the datasheet for easy viewing), but I would like to know if there's a way of accomplishing this without the use of checkboxes.

I know I could also use a listbox and that allows them to multi-select items, but I'm not sure if that allows me to group all selected items at the top of the listbox for easy viewing of selected items. Plus it would involve a lot of scrolling (there are over 2k assets).

Scanning Barcode Into Search Box Works But Causes Multiple - Cannot Open Any More Databases - Errors

Aug 5, 2014

I'm scanning bar codes into the record search box, most of the time it works as it should but occasionally I get multiple "cannot open any more databases" errors. It still finds the product record but the error messages are super annoying. I am sure to clear the memory on the scanner each time before I scan in a new barcode but it doesn't seem to matter. Also sure to only have one or 2 forms open at a time, that doesn't seem to matter either. Most of the time I don't get the errors but when I have to click through like 10+ error messages (all identical). I only have one database open so I'm not sure what it even means. Also I have tried this in 2 different forms and it's the same for both forms. Seems like I get the errors in my initial scan and then after clearing them it seems to work without errors.

Modules & VBA :: Errors With Custom Filter - Data Full Of Records With Multiple Columns

Sep 11, 2013

Custom filter I'm trying to set up. I have a data full of records with multiple columns and a form linked up to it. The form has a search box that works as well as navigation buttons.

Currently I am trying to get a filter to work. The filter will use up to five combo foxes to narrow down the fields, then return the filtered records after clicking a button. The button itself is where my code is. My issue now though is I cannot get the filter to work if I try to use more than one combo box.

The code I have at the moment is as follows:
'------------------------------------------------------------
' cmdApplyFilter_Click
'
'------------------------------------------------------------
Private Sub cmdApplyFilter_Click()

Me.Filter = "[Asset Group] = " & Me.cmbFilter1 & "" And "[Location] = " & Me.cmbFilter4 & ""
Me.FilterOn = True

End SubThe current error I am getting is Error 13: Type mismatch. I also know that the And might be the cause but I cannot change it to AND: it keeps changing back.

General :: Trapping Errors When No Query Criteria Is Given In MS Access 2007?

I am writing a small database using MS Access 2007. I have in it a function for running queries and printing reports. Printing works just fine if any one of the multiple query criteria is give.

I also want to trap errors and present a message if the user clicks the "Print" button without a query criteria. At the moment I only get a run-time syntax error message which has a "debug" button for accessing the entire code. I want a message that will say "There was no search criteria".

This is the code for printing:

Code:
Private Sub cmdPrint_Click()
Dim varWhere As Variant
varWhere = BuildFilter
' Update the record source

Multiple Users?

Aug 18, 2005

Hi,

I am trying to create a database that MULTIPLE users can log on and view the data.

Eg. I have a client list and have employed 5 ppl to call each one of my clients and confirm their details.

I have imported all the details into a table and just want users to simulataneously log on and click a "next record" button that will bring up the next "new" record with the details displayed on a form. of course the database will flag this record as "old" and which user called them.

Main thing is 5+ computers can connect to this database simultaneously and no record gets displayed more than once.

Can MS Access do this?

if it cant, would a vb front end located on each computer help?

Thanks for any suggestions!
