I want to take the first 15 characters from a field in my table and place those 15 characters into a new field in the same table , assuming i can do this with a query.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have tried to find this on the forum but it seems all the answers are to do with manipulating the strings based on what the postcode is whereas I just want to extract the postcode as a separate string as simply as possible.
Basically, I have a text field called Add5 which has the last line of the address including the postcode.
Example: "Northampton NN1 7PQ"
I am trying to end up with two strings like this
Add5 = "Northampton"
Postcode = "NN1 7PQ"
I only need to do this in one place, I don't think it needs a module.
Hello all!
I have a customer database and I basically want to find out their geographical distribution. To do this I need to run a query that gives me the sum of customers for each postcode, but this is dependent on only the first few characters of the postcodes (or prefix), eg BH3. The length of the prefix varies between 2 characters and 4 characters with one or two characters followed by one or two numbers.
What I don't want to happen for example is to have postcodes counted as BH1 when in fact they are BH13 or to have postcodes coutned as BH13 when they are actually BH1 3LV.
Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can do this? :confused:
Any help most gratefully received!

I have a table with a string field included for an address.
Some rows have postcodes and some dont
How can I extract the PostCode values from the field?
Hi
If i wanted to run a query from customer records in my database and wanted a list of specific postcodes that matched the criteria how would i do this?
For example each customer records has a postcode BD4 4KL, LS9 7YH ETC
I want to categorise each postcode set to see for example all the customers with postcodes begining with have ordered factsheets.
In the criteria part of the query how would i write it so it only extracts specific postcodes from the database from the ones i require
e.g "HU1, HU2, HU3 HU4" - checks database - returns all postcodes beginning with this.
Please help me!
Thanks
I have a form which has a number of fields and 2 of them are called [Postcode] and [Cost].
The cost field is defaulted to "£75.00"
What I am trying to is after the user enters the postcode it looks at the first and second value and if they enter a postcode in Scotland like below it changes the cost field accordingly.
The changes will only effect postcodes in Scotland if that makes sense as we have 2 different pricing areas for these
examples of some postcodes
AB1 1AU £125.00
EH1 1RT £85.00
G1 1AT £85.00
IV5 1ER £125.00
ML1 1RT £85.00
and so on
so any postcode containing the following would update
AB = 125
EH = 85
G = 85
IV = 125
ML = 85
DD = 85
FK = 125
etc etc
all other postcodes in the uk will show the default value of £75.00
Hello,
I have a table with a field named SSN. This field contains data with the following format:
123-45-6789L
As you can see my field has a text format and I need to create a make table query that will extract all the character that are places in position 12 and 13 (simply the letters after the ssn).
I have tried with Mid([SSN],12,13) but nothing happens.
Any help? Thanks.
for example how can I extract the following number from the field ITEM 117145 5410076462162, 714774 117072 5410076462223 ,714768 117153 5410076462285,733289 998214 5410076462193 from this record. The field is memo. The common: the string "+" always is in front I tried this Expr2: InStr([ITEM],"+"), but it only give me first one.
The following is record

We have a form with a field Drawing No from the Table Job Register
I want to be able to take the first part of the drawing number and display all matching items from the quote details table.
Aesthetics I can sort later.
I've created a query Item History.
My intention is to have a command button on the form Job Register that runs the query qryQuoteHistory displaying matching results.
My issues are as follows:
drawing numbers are sporadic in length and information ie:
kk80
a2-19520
a2-19520 rev a
e8
1128215 issue d
Retrospectively I would have had issue or revision number in a separate field, or better yet have a products table and link the info there. Unfortunately this isn't the case.
I'm trying to split up the filename into four separate fields. Here's an example of the filename:
123112 427900 55261 1156833.jpg
A 12312
B 427900
C 55261
D 1156833
The values A, B and C are always the same number of characters. The last value, D, changes in size. It can be anywhere from four characters to twenty. But it always starts at position "20" as with "1" in the case of the 1156833. The extension, jpg, is of no value.I might also add my programming ability is close to nonexistent.
I am using access 2010 and have the following question?
I have 2 tables, 1 called UKFile and the other Customers with the following fields
[UKFILE] THIS IS WHERE ADDRESS DETAILS ARE STORED
POSTCODEID
POSTCODE
STREET
TOWN
[CUSTOMERS]
CUSTOMERNAME
POSTCODE
STREET
TOWN
CONTACTNAME
TELEPHONE
How do I link these so that when I enter the customers postcode it grabs the data from the UKFile table.
Should I change structure at this early stage,
Hi,
I have a postcode field on a form that allows 8 characters. e.g. ST10 8BY including the space in the middle.
The only validation I have been able to use thus far is the above but I would like to know how to validate two letters (AA) then between 1 and 2 numbers (11) etc.
Is there any code/built in functions that allows this. I know there is an input mask but if I use that, I can set the poscode format up like ST10 8BY but it thinks that the rule has been broken if the postcode was changed to S10 8BY by removing the T. This is also a valid postcode.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
I am trying to do some simple table operations. I have a field (Date) containing dates, and an empty field called Day.
I want to extract the day number from the Date field, and write it to the Day field.
I didn't get very far until I ran into trouble when setting my recordset. I get the error "Too few parameters, expected 1". Clicking "Debug", will highlight the code line "Set rs = db.OpenRecordset(sqlString, dbOpenDynaset)".
So far, my code looks as follows:
Code:
Private Sub Command16_Click()
Dim db As DAO.Database
Dim rs As DAO.Recordset
Dim sqlString As String
Dim dataDay As Byte
'Open connection to current Access database
Set db = CurrentDb()
[Code]...
I am not very familiar with the various types of recordset settings. I just want to be able to read data from the Date field, and write data to the Day field.
"Att Mr/Mrs Vezi Your DEFAULTED account has been handed over to XXX. Payment DUE IMMEDIATELY Ref 1315519509. Tel 0009377500"
I need to extract the word "Ref " plus the number that follows it from the above string. The problem is that the word "Ref " is not always in the same place and the number following it is not always the same length. (ie it could look like "Ref 123456 " or "Ref 1234567 ") The only commonality between the records is that the number will always follow the word "Ref ".
I have inherited a 2003 db with unknown PIDs for the Group & User security.When trying to alter User details, I'm asked for a PID, so I'm trying to find the PID for the existing users.
I've gone to unhide the systems tables to get a dump of the data & hopefully find the PIDs but no luck so far.There is a Parent ID & if I run a query from the Users DB file, it appears as if it something like japanese writing ???
I have what I think is a difficult problem to overcome...
I am designing a form to create an invoice. The user will select a workstream and a date range in form frmInvByHrs. Within this I want two sub-forms, one is frmInvByHrsTsht and the other is frmInvByHrsBill. I want the first one to display all the staff and their hours done, and the second one to be in data entry mode where you can enter the hours you want to bill. Each sub-form is based on a separate query.
Is it possible to do this? ie. to have one sub-form in data entry mode, and the other not? It seems to me that the data entry mode is controlled by the MAIN form regardless of the sub-form settings!
If this is not possible, do you know how I can acheive this?
Thanks

Many years ago I created a database that has one embedded image for each project.
I am now redoing this db in 2010 format and I want to extract these images and save them in a folder so I can link them to the new db based on the project ID number
The table is [Project main], the unique project ID is [R&D ID#] and the image file is stored in [Item image] as an OLE object. i would like to save them to C:db images
I have imported an Excel table with a column which has several values in one cell separated by "". In my case names of institutions afiliated with a patent. Example of the format of a single cell: MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (US) RIVE TECHNOLOGY INC (US)
In order to normalize the Access database I would like to extract the institutions to a separate table (institutions) and that the patent is related to both institutions.
I am using Access 2007.
I am trying to extract data from one field and then put it into another field. I have 2 fields, Code_A and Code_B. I am trying to take the Code * data from Code_A and put it in Code_B. Any help is appreciated.
Code_ACode_B
AlphaCode 3
Code 3
AlphaCode 3
Code 2
DeltaCode 3
Code 3Unknown

I have read some tutorials online on how to split data into multiple fields.
http://www.databasedev.co.uk/splitting_fields.html
While this is the gist of what I need - it is much more complex.
I am dealing with adresses.
This inherited database has 2 fields - ZIP, and ADDRESS. I need to extract the data within the ADDRESS field to populate other more detailed named fields.
I would like to ultimately have my fileds to be: STREETNUM, STPREDIR, STREETNAME, STREETSUFX, SUD, SNUM.
Example: (Current ADDRESS data)
512 N Manchester Dr Ste 201
(extract ADDRESS and import into)
STREETNUM = 512
STPREDIR = N
STREETNAME = Manchester
STREETSUFX = Dr
SUD = Ste
SNUM = 201
--
Now I have tried several queries to extract the first bit of data 'STREETNUM', using the example on the link I posted above. INSTR, RIGHT, MID, LEFT.
Problem is there are also P.O. Boxes formatted like: PO BOX 1234, so my STREETNUM column includes the PO, when it should include the 1234.
PO Box 1234 should translate to:
STREETNUM = 1234
STREETNAME = PO BOX
All the rest of the fields aren't needed.
As you can see, I'm in OVER my head.
I would greatly appreciate any assistance or direction in accomplishing this task.
I am not a beginner with Access, but I am far from being an expert. A breakdown of some complicated tasks may be necessary... :-)
Thanks in advanced.
I'm using a very simple unbound textbox on a very simple form, with the following Expression to find me data in a query and sum the last 30 days, based on a combo-box on my form...
Only thing is, it's showing me only the data from the last 30 days...regardless of the value in the combo.
=DSum("Credit","qryIncVsExp","TransDate>=#" & Date()-30 & "#" And "AccountID_FK="""&[cboaccount].[column](1)&"")
I'm sure it's something to do with the number of "'s I have, but I'm probably more than likely ever so wrong.
Hi everyone,
I have refined my query from previous threads to involved a module function. This calculates more acurately no of working days between dates and takes into account a holidays table. (All credit to Arvin Meyer on the module:) )
However because the Leave Year starts at the 1 July and finishes 30 Jun I need to compose the date for any current year Year(Now())
Enclosed scrdmp shows my query design. I can easily get it to work as you see it, but obviously as each year rolls over, the year needs to change.
Have looked at many posts but can't find what I'm looking for. This one will get me over the hurdle.
Many thanks,
Does anyone have an idea how to extract the first paragraph of a memo field of a table to be used in a query? Thanks...
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have the following data in the field MA-84
I created a query and added the following
Year: "20" & Right([TYPEFY],2)
when I run the query I get a new field named Year and the format looks like
2084
Now I just need a IIF statement that looks at 2084 and compares to to current year is the current year is less than 2084 leave alone else make it 1984
One last question if the Field TYPEFY IS BLANK how do I make the query do nothing to Newly created query field Year?
Full Name, Forename, Surname, Salutation. This data has been extracted from another database where the Surname field was not required but it is now. So i need to find a way to pull data from the salutation field into the surname field where salutation has data but surname is null. The next one when surname and salutation are null but full name has data i need to pull that across.
