General :: Importing Txt File With Large Number

Feb 11, 2014

I am importing a delimited .txt file that has a number field. A value for a record coming in is 36,767 and Access is not accepting it. If I redefine the field as long integer or as double, I can manually update the record, but as soon as the file containing the record is imported, the field reverts back to integer.

How do I format the field with VBA so that Access will accept the value and not revert to integer?

General :: How To Get A Large Dat File Into Access

Feb 3, 2013

I have a large .dat file which is run through an Access macro to produce reports. After a recent system change at work the format of the .dat has changed and now includes an additional bit of data which disrupts the macro.

I tried changing the extension of the file from dat to mdb to see if I could remove the additional column in access. I also tried changing it to a csv file as well but the file has a few hundred thousand lines and the csv file cuts most of it out.

Are there any other ways I can open this file in Access to remove this additional column of data?

General :: Large Data Entry - Access Mail Merge

Sep 10, 2013

I have created a rather large data entry form for one of our departments which will be used to run a mail merge document. The merge is run off of a query of the form, rather than the tables themselves...I think that is what I've read is the right thing to do?

Anyways, most of it is working great so far but I've run into an issue where a few of the form fields are combo boxes. In access and in the query the data looks correct, but when you look at it in word (in edit recipient list) and after the merge, it will have a file path name instead.

So a combo box that has "Medical Plans and Visual Plans" in that field in the query, comes over saying "c:Users
ameAppData

Ex: New Hires are provided information about Medical Plans and Visual Plans.
Ex: New Hires are provided information about MeC:UsersbrooksAppData

It always shows the first two letters before putting the filepath name in there.

I have tried doing it multiple ways...a lookup to another table, lookup right in the field itself....get the same results.

General :: Large Table Import / Way To Import Tables To Access

Sep 17, 2013

I want to make a database of diseases (need to learn them for school and would like a serchable database on my smart phone for future reference).
Unfortunately spent a lot of time making hundreds of pages of word tables before i realized a database would be better. See attached image or pdf. Is there a way to import the tables to Access?

I need to preserve the hierarchic info in the nested bullet point lists. E.g. under treatment i might have a point called Acute treatment, with sub-levels, Step 1, Step 2, etc. with their own sub-levels. I need to maintain this relational hierarchic info.

Modules & VBA :: Fill In A Large Number Of Records

I need to fill in 200000 records counting from 100000,100001,100002.... and so forth, just one column (and maybe the auto numbering).

make a new DB with these columns: ID, counter
set counter to 100000 where ID=1 (in the first record)
move to next record (or make a new record)
if ID < 300000 then set counter = 1+ (the value of counter in the previous record)
continue until ID=300000

Modules & VBA :: Copy Record As New In Large Number Of Tables

Jan 20, 2015

I have "Master" table with fields "Job No" and "Revision No". Both together is a primary key, so that combination of both cannot be duplicated. I have 100 other tables to be related with referential integrity(+update&delete) to Master for both fields. Apart from Job No and Revision No, all 100 tables have different set of fields which is why I had to come with so many tables.

Due to 32 limit rule, I had to come up with workaround method to have all 100 tables in the relationship. So, I created 5 other SubMaster1, SubMaster2, ...., SubMaster5 which are related to Master with relationship with referential integrity (+update&delete). Then I assigned 20 tables to each SubMaster so that 20 tables are related to each SubMaster table.

Whenever I create new record in Unit, the new record is generated in each SubMaster using update query for each SubMaster table. I have all the forms and necessary query laid out. The only missing part is being able to duplicate a record. I have limited knowledge in VBA, but I should be able to modify it to address to my requirement.

I want to copy a given record in Master, SubMasters and 100 tables as a new record. I need this feature so that I can select certain Job No and Revision No and copy that as a new Job No(assigned manually in a form) and 0 as the revision number. Possibly a button which will ask for new job number and copy everything from the active Job No and Revision No to a New Job No and "0" Revision No. The existing record may not be there on all 100 tables for the given Job No and Revision No. If it is there, then copy otherwise ignore for each of the tables.

I have a table "ItemList" which lists all the unique name of the 100 tables.

Table Structure For Large List Of Number Fields

Jul 30, 2015

Have a look at this screenshot from excel.

Basically I would like to capture the quantity in stock for the above list of phones at many stores.

I started out by adding each phone model as a numeric field in tblStock, because I need to obtain the quantity value for each and every model, for each and every store.

Is there a better way to do this? I was thinking of creating just 2 fields, Model and Quantity, then adding each model as a record, then using that record as a sort of template. I wander what would be the drawbacks of this, since with the first method, if a user needs to add a phone not on the list he would have to modify the table design.

I need to send a large number of reports (actually 1 page invoices) as faxes. A few years ago I used to use a version of WinFax Pro with command line parameters to accomplish this. I would actually print each invoice to the WinFax Printer with a command line that contained the fax number for that client and using this method I was able to send each invoice to a different fax number (customer).WinFax is no longer available.

Convert Large Number To Binary For Use In TCPIP Socket Project

Apr 8, 2013

I am working on a project that requires data transfer using TCPIP sockets. I am using a 3rd party Library (Ostrosoft) that handles the wsock32.dll api calls.

The project calls for the creation of a header that logs into a user account.

The first part of the header is a marker, with a value of 4,275,878,552. It is to be supplied in a Binary format of length 4.

My quesion is "How do I create this marker".

What I have tried so far is a string variable - strMarker thus:

strMarker = ChrB(&HFE) & ChrB(&HDC) & ChrB(&HBA) & ChrB(&H98)

Using the ChrB function to convert the Hex version of that number (FEDCBA98)

General :: How To Add A Field That Counts The Number Of Qualifiers Per Race

Aug 9, 2014

I am new to using access but have managed to build a database that I use to find qualifiers for horse racing based on stats I import for all the racers in the days racing. I have a query which shows the date, time, track, horse and trainer but some races have more than 1 selection so I want to add a field that counts the number of qualifiers per race. I am finding it hard to do a countif, date AND time & track are all the same within that query.

I also want to add another show the total runners in the race but this will have to look into the tables where the query is run from. Hopefully I can figure this out when I find out how to solve my original problem.

General :: Phone Number Changing By Itself In Table Field

Aug 14, 2013

In Access 2002, I have a Phone Number field (Text) that is meant to store (obviously enough) phone numbers. However, when I enter 2009 as the last four digits (ex. (555)-555-2009) the number is changed to (555)-555-2010. This also occurs if I enter the number directly into the table (which doesn't have an input mask). I have tested it in a new form (even without input mask), and a new table, which both result in the exact same thing.

General :: Auto Generate A Number In Where Data Field Is Text

Jul 10, 2012

I have

Table called "Products"
Field 1= "Product ID" which is a text field (PK) but numbers are used (ie 1 -20)
Field 2= Products -showing our list of 20 products

When I enter a new product, currently I have to look in the table to find the last ID used then use the next one available. I have created a form to be used for data entry to enter new products

What I am trying to do is :- 1, have the form open at data entry level but still able to scroll and see all records and 2, Have the form auto generate the next number available. For example, I have 20 products entered so when the form opens to enter a new product, the ID is automatically at number 21.

I wondered if its because the field is a text field or I am trying to insert the code in the wrong place.

General :: Scientific Notation Displayed When Entering Data In Number Field

Mar 4, 2013

I have a "Currency" field in a table and it holds large numbers (on which I will need to do basic arithmetic operations at some point, so I must store them as a numbers). I have set the "Standard" format on the TextBox used to display it on a form because I want to have thousand separators; I've also set "0" for decimals as I don't need to display them.

So everything displays as I want it even with the largest number that can be stored all the decimals are showing in the text field, but when I click on the field to edit the value instead of having the complete value it is displayed as scientific notation. I would like to display the complete value when editing it instead of the scientific notation, how can I achieve this, if it is possible?

A numeric example: If a user enters 1234567891012, the value displayed is indeed 1234567891012 but if they click on the field again the displayed value while editing is 1.23456789012E+11 (and it switches back to normal notation when the focus changes to another field). I would like to show 123456789012 all the time. I know that Access is capable of it most likely because if I set the Format to "Fixed" the values are always displayed completely (no scientific notation), but unfortunately I would like the thousands separators to show and it is not possible with the "Fixed" format.

Two last details, the scientific notation while editing does not kick in unless there is more than 11 digits in the number and the field width (and/or TextBox width) are sufficient to display up to 20 digits.

Access To Large - Anyway To Change It?

Hello. My database has around 6000 products, and as time has gone by, the database has got bigger and bigger, more and more text - its now a rather large 16MB. Now, everytime i make a small change to it and upload to the server, it takes me about 8 min uploadeing it. Not that bad, but if i have to change 3-4 times a day? Also, it wipes out the website during the upload, which is not that great. Is there someway to compact the access database somehow? Thanks.

General :: Extracting Data From Access Without Knowing Number Of Results

Jun 25, 2014

I wish to extract data from my access database...namely all packages we are taking to the post office for dispatch that day. The post office form looks like this...

I need to extract the name the address & postal service used (this data is all contained in our access database. I envisage using a 'flag' to trap those orders that haven't been posted yet (in other words export only those database entries that have not been flagged as posted, then afterwards update the database to change the flag to 'posted')

My dilemma is that I've not really used reports much (I'm assuming that reports is the correct way to go here)...how do you format the output of a report, when you don't know how many lines are going result (some days might see 10 order, other days 20 ...and so on)...
