General :: Hide Database Window And Appear Once Closed
Jan 20, 2014
I have a database and I need it so once the database file is launched the Database window & tool bars are hidden so people cannot see them. Along with that once the operator clicks on "Exit" on the main menu I would want it to close the database but display all of the Windows / Tool Bars again.
I have a database with a main menu which opens up on start-up it works fine and all but I want to go the extra step, I wish to disable / hide the ribbons (Top and Bottom) - Or Hide the whole Microsoft Access Window and display my form with the desktop behind it.
The next thing is once I click the X or the button to close the form I want Microsoft Access to appear again as in everything to show itself again.
I am looking to minimize the access window when my database is opened. I already set it to do that from the startup menu, but all that did was open my specified form on open. I want it to actually only show my form w/ acces on the startup tray. Any suggestions?
I woul like to programatically (with VBA code) hide and unhide the database window.
In Access 97, this can be done with Tools > Startup > Display database window box (check/uncheck).
But I would like my program does that himself : when the user launches the application, the database window should be hidden and when he leaves, the database window should be shown again.
I am wondering whether it is possible to trigger the run of a macro when a form window is closed using the close button in the top right of a standard window?
If not, then is it possible to display a form in a window without the minimize, restore and close buttons?
I am currently using a setup whereby I have a button to close a form, and when clicked a macro is executed. However, the user could just as easily close the form using the close button of the window and the updates would not be performed.
I have included some code to disable the access PassKey (holding shift down as you open the database so that the database window appears). It is password protected and it works pretty well for normal users.
However, I have realised that even in this restricted mode you can go to File-Options-Current database and enable Access Keys. This then lets you open the database window by pressing F12.
My question is, is there a way to absolutely stop anyone from ever viewing the database window at all? All my code is password protected, but I still don't want an ICT person fiddling with my tables and queries!
Through a set of circumstances, I have had to quickly migrate a long-standing (and business critical) database from Access 2003 to Access 2013, without the sort of prepping and planning that I would normally do in such circumstances.
Most functionality appears to be working ok...
Many of my database objects, especially queries, were given meaningful descriptions.
For example, a number of queries might have been described as "Accounts Data Validation".
When I wanted to run validation of the Accounts data, I would simply sort the database queries window by description, then scroll to the relevant section and run all of the tagged queries in turn.
However, having migrated to Access 2013, although the descriptions are still shown, I can no longer sort by them !
Medium term, I could probably assign different database objects to "Groups", but we are talking hundreds, perhaps even thousands of different objects and that would be a laborious and extremely tedious process.
Any way of sorting the database window by description in Access 2013 ?
I have developed .net application ....at back end I am using ms access database. When I deploy my application at client end , I want only my ms access database should accessible to application only. Client should not be even to see which type of database i am using or its business logic .
hi guys, easy question. when the DB is open a login form comes up. The issue is that the properties window for that form comes too. any suggestion? thx max.
In Access, Tools->Start... I uncheck the "Show Database Window" checkbox to hide the database window when the database opens.
When I enter an icon to be used for the program, the hide DB window utility cease to work on Windows 2000, but not on Windows XP, e.g. the DB window is shown when opening the database on a Window 2000 system.
I am using Access 2010 and trying to hide the background access window, so that only my forms are visible to the end users.
After researching, I found these VBA codes, but I always get an error. I have changed all my forms & reports to Pop-up and Modal. This is the code that I use on OnLoad of the Main (first form):
When I open my the database- the mian window is still there and I get an error
"The espression On Load you entered as the even property setting produced the following error: Only comments may appear after End Sub, End Function or End Property.
*The expression may not result in the name of a macro, the name of a user-defined function, or [Even Procedure]. *There may have been an error evaluating the function, event or macro.
I've been using Dev Avish's excellent code shown within the sample database section to hide access windows. I've taken his call fsetAccessWindow function and set it to 1 or normal in two separate databases. Both databases seem to work slightly differently. The idea is that opening the database produces one Visible instance of access on the taskbar which is the purple standard graphic (Access 2000 / Windows 2000). With the first database I have set up reports through the active x control as required when using dev's code and even when I hit the report button the user is only aware of one visible instance of access as the purple colour graphic.
I am trying to implement the same code in a second database and have copied the code from the previous database into this database. It works great for the forms however there is a slight glitch when report forms are accessed. Rather than remaining with the purple access part on the task bar the task bar section is split into two between the form and the report. In the previous database users would not notice that the report had been opened at all. (although technically it was still running in the backrground)
I have checked most of the properties between the two database forms and they would appear to be the same..
Has anyone got any ideas why the taskbar is behaving differently between these two databases there must be some difference between my set up but as yet cannot find it??
Evening All! (Old enough to remember Dixon of Dock Green (stupid enough to mention it!))
I'm working on a small database for a small team of support workers with a client base of 60 clients at anyone time, although the turnover is quite substantial.
I have done some searches on archiving records but am concerned that once archived a record would be difficult to re-integrate in to the live database, particularly if there have been changes to it?
I have considered that I may be just as well slapping a big label over every record that has a date in the [CloseDate] field and if a closed case is re-opened, the closed date is removed and the label disappears.
I'm still open to being convinced that the archiving is the way to go, but in the mean time I hope someone will be able to help with the expression needed in the form on_current procedure to make the label visible. If it was just a tick box I'd be flying by now, but I can't get my head around getting a populated [CloseDate] field to initiate the CloseRecordLabel.
I am running Access 2010. I am building a form that is finding the "Docket Numbers" from three different forms. In order to get these numbers, I put in three text boxes with these statements:
Text box1 =[Forms]![Jobslist]![Docketnumber]
Text box2 =[Forms]![Jobslist2]![Docketnumber]
Text box3 =[Forms]![Jobslist3]![Docketnumber]
However, not all three forms will necessarily be open at one time so I am trying to use an Iif statement to check if the form is open. I can't seem to figure out the function to check if the form is open. I am looking for something along these lines:
Text box1 =iif([Forms]![Jobslist] = closed,"",[Forms]![Jobslist]![Docketnumber]
What i need to figure out is what to used instead of "= closed".
Is there a way to make the shutter bar be closed on database open?
I already have an autoexec macro to take people to a main menu, but would like to ensure the shutter bar is closed for aesthetics and to keep people away from clicking on something.
Hi, I have been using "fSetAccessWindow (SW_HIDDEN)" in the open event of my main switchboard to hide the grey Access screen from being visible behind forms, reports, etc in this db. But when I started using a .vbs script file to launch the db, the Access window stopped being hidden. (The reason I use the script for launching is that it temporarily sets the db's security level to 1 which stops the macro security warning from coming up.) Apparently MS knows about this happening and released a technique to rectify the situation, but I don't understand their instructions. It looks like they expect one to have more understanding than I have. Could someone help me get this impliemented? Here is the article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/167659/en-us Thanks!
Does a (the) .ldb file have to be closed for another user on a network (separate FE linked to network drive BE) to read/write info to a table? Or even select info from a table?
ive been disabling the database window from the startup tab in MS access, just now when ive tryed to show it on startup it appears but its stuck in the top left hand corner and i cant move it! so i cant access the tables
I've imported somebody's access db which hides the database window by default. When I click the db window button in the toolbar, the db window pops up high up and is somewhat hidden by the toolbar. I can't pull it back down as the top is hidden and when I try to move the toolbar, the db window simple moves up so I can't grab it and move it. Any suggestions?
This may seem silly and I've seen no mention of it in this forum yet but the "Database Window" from previous versions of Access is now called the "Object Browser"? I had code to hide the database window on startup but can't seem to find a way to hide the object browser on startup. Any ideas? Also, is there another way to view my objects in ACC07 because this way is slowing me down tremendously! It's much more difficult to find the objects I'm trying to work on and visually see where I left off. Any help would greatly be appreciated! Thanks in advance.
Dear Friends I made my a stupid mistake and I don't know how to rectify it.
There is a inventory software built in access xp. In order to protect database I've cleared all the options from that is
a) Display Startup form b) Display status bar c) Allow Full menus(Changed with Custome Menu) d) Allow Default shortcut keys e) and foolish thing cleared Use special key also
I've given a task to modify program where I may have to add New form. I don't know how to unhide database window. pls suggest me what to do....
