General :: How To Check Numeric Input Data

I have an input box and wanted user just to input 7 digital data. However, I am afraid user may enter string data. Is there any way to check and ensure user can only input 7 digital data to that input box?

I'm trying to use DCOUNT to check to see if a date exists and if it does then i can cancel the input. The code im using is as follows however its returning datatype mismatch.
Code:
If DCount("[pick_date]", "tblPicker_Stats", "[pick_date] = '" & txtPickDate & "'") > 0 Then
MsgBox "Statistics for this date already exist", vbOKOnly, "Error"
End
End If

I have a form called frmStartTimeEntry where a user inputs data using a barcode scanner. In this form there is a field called Part_No where after a value is inserted, I'd like the form to check if table_lines_per_part includes this part. If not found, then I'd like the form to open another form called frmLinesPerPart where the form would pull the same Part_No inserted in the previous form to fill in the Part_No field (which is hidden) and then the user would type in a qty for the LinesPerOrder. A user would then click a button btnOk to append this new record to table_lines_per_part and be returned to the frmStartTimeEntry to continue filling out the rest of the form.
This is the idea I have but I don't know how to code the part where the form checks after update if the part_no exists in the other table, nor how to capture the part_no to the other form and then append both the part_no and the lines per part to the other table.

Attached in the ZIPPED file is an Excel spreadsheet.
Columns A is all numeric, and needs to be represented in access as a text field.
Column B is a mixed format of dates entered and in some instances only plain numeric. I need to import this column as is into a text field in access.
I tried importing the excel sheet, but the data gets changed.I tried to linked the Excel sheet but it also had an influence on the data.In both cases the influence of change is NOT throughout. Hence my need to get this spreadsheet into access as is.

I want numeric only input for a certain textbox. I can use a ISNUMERIC function to test this, but prefer to use the Keypress event. So far got the following:
Code:
Private Sub txt_Position_KeyPress(KeyAscii As Integer)
Select Case KeyAscii
Case 8 ' backspace
Case Asc("1") To Asc("9")
Case Asc("-")
If InStr(1, Me.txt_Position.Text, "-") > 0 Or Me.txt_Position.SelStart > 0 Then
[code]...
It is working alright, except I want to avoid input that has multiple leading zeros, such as 00000 or -00000 (i.e. minus sign with mulitple leading zeros).

I'm trying to create a validation rule that requires an input of 5 numeric characters OR if the entry begins with a letter it can be any length. For example if the record begins with a number the length must be 5. If it starts with a letter any length is acceptable.
Any help is appreciated!
Thank you!

Is there an easy way in VBA to loop through a recordset and determine if the text string in a text field includes numeric characters?
I'm trying to do something like this:
Code:
Do Until rst.EOF
rst.Edit
If Left(rst!FldText,10) contains any numeric characters Then
rst!FldType = "Mixed"
ElseIF Left(rst!FldText,10) contains "PO" Then
rst!FldType = "PO"
Else
rst!FldType = "Std"
End If
rst.Update

I'm new to Access. I started building a database for work (I work at a nursery) and I used John's Dynamic Search code for an Inventory Input Database but I was wondering is it possible to use this code to input data into a table.
So basically I'm creating a database where I can input Item ID, Description(Plant name), Date, Location, Yard, and notes. For the Item ID and Description that is where I used the dynamic search code (as a combo box) so I can easily enter the Item ID and it will search for the Description. I got all this to work except that when I choose my selection it does not save on to the records. The other fields does save just not the dynamic search.

How do I allow colleagues to input data to the Access database, but at the same time prevent meddling with the database design? Is it possible to password protect some functions but allow others (students/ nurses!) to input data?

I have a form in my Access database that has 3 input boxes by which a user can locate a record by. The problem I am running into is that I can not get a nested IF statement to work properly to first check which of the search boxes are filled in and second search by whichever is filled in. I have come up with the following code that seems to be only searching by the first input box. If the first input box is blank it does not move to the second or third numbers so I imagine there may be something wrong with the order of my IF statement or the syntax is off.

"Att Mr/Mrs Vezi Your DEFAULTED account has been handed over to XXX. Payment DUE IMMEDIATELY Ref 1315519509. Tel 0009377500"
I need to extract the word "Ref " plus the number that follows it from the above string. The problem is that the word "Ref " is not always in the same place and the number following it is not always the same length. (ie it could look like "Ref 123456 " or "Ref 1234567 ") The only commonality between the records is that the number will always follow the word "Ref ".

I have a text field having data i-e HO-1, HO,2, ACW-25 and so on. The field name is nBadge_num and is Unique. The data in this field is sorted automatically like 1, 10, 11, 12, 13, 2, 3, 4, 5...because this is the text field.
The number on the form is automatically generated, when the user type HO- for example on field exit event. The last number will generate like HO-5.
Code for automatic number generation is:
Dim dbs As Database, rst As Recordset, Response
Set dbs = CurrentDb
Set rst = dbs.OpenRecordset("SELECT Max(Right([nBadge_Num],Len([nBadge_Num])-" & Len(Me.NBadge_Num) & ")) AS MaxNo " _
[Code]....
My problem is when the number is generated it give HO-5 instead of HO-14, How can I sort the numeric part of the field ?

Anyway any values of this kind with 4 decimal places. however somehow the values always get rounded to number + 4 zeros as of example:
if I put 0.756769 I want it to be as 0.7568 but I get 1.0000
I don't understand this. Can anyone help please?
I have not used access for ages and I seemed to be forgeting all this stuff.

Access 97 SR1
I am importing a file that has two numeric fields in it. I was asked to import as fixed length text fields with leading zeroes and no decimal point.
I am supposed to export the data in Csv format.
Source field from IBM iSeries DB: quantity is 15,3. Quantity source value is 9, requested text format of five characters 00009, the Csv result is 9. The field in Access is defined as Text 5 characters.
Source field from IBM iSeries DB: price is 17,4. Price source value is 1020.0000, requested text format of nine characters 000001020, the Csv result is 1200.00. The field in Access is defined as Text 9 characters.
Thanks,
Dave

I need to make a query to compare equality of two pieces of data, one is a 6 character fixed-length text string (where the first character can be ignored) and the other is a 4 or 5 digit number (long integer, if 4 digit number can be assumed to be 5 with a leading 0).
I do not have the ability to change the way I receive the data, they are on linked tables of different customers.
I tried using various SQL functions to convert the data in the query but they don't seem to work in Access, so I am getting "Type incorrect in the expression" errors.
How do I do this in ACCESS? I would prefer a SQL query solution to a VBA solution if possible, the data is updated VERY often and the application is already doing too much processing on the form_timer() event.

I have 2 databases with the same structure, but different data.
I want to put all the data in 1 database.
The problem is that the most important table (clients)has an autonumeric id field, that is used to link the records to the fields of many other tables; so, I cannot delete or change that field without losing connections.

I an trying to create a data entry form (IndividualsEntryFm) to input data for fields such as (First Name),(Birthdate) etc., these to be saved to the (IndividualsTbl)
I also have another table (NamesTbl) which has family names etc. The two tables are linked by a (MainID) field. I want a combo box on the individualsEntryFm so that I can select the family name. Then I wish the empty fields for the IndividualsTbl to be available to enter data. When I press the save button I then want this data saved, together with the MainID from the combo box to the IndividualsTbl.
I have set the IndividualsTbl with a (PersonID) field as an auto number each individual therefore has a unique PersonID but may well share the MainID. I'm trying to link many people to the same address.
