View RepliesI have MS access database. The database is password encrypted. I do not own this database but it is critical for me to see the contens of this database. I do not want to edit the contents.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am currently using Access 2010, and have successfully split a database, using the Access wizard. However, whenever a second or third user opens the database - with their front-end database file - they encounter the following message; The Microsoft Access Database engine cannot open or write to the file ". It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view and write its data.
I have researched the internet and see that it has something to do with network permissions. I have worked with my IT department and this appears to be resolved!
Is there a setting I need to check in the front-end and/or back-end copies of the databases? Why is there no file name in the error message?
I've been working on a database for the past month and all of a sudden I'm getting an error "the microsoft jet database engine could not find the object 'database'" and when I click ok nothing is showing (i.e. no project window or anything). I normally do backups on something this large but for some reason I didn't on this one. The size of the file is still large but doesn't look like anything is in it.I've tried opening a new one and link and import everything but I get the same error.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having problems with my database. It was on a USB memory stick and suddenly I got a message to format the entire USB memory. I managed to retrieve the files on the USB and loaded them onto anothe USB, but when I tried to open the database I got the message:
"Cannot open database ". It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt."
However, when I tried it on another computer I managed to open the database but when I was closing it I got the same message again. The database is working OK, but how do I get rid of the message?
I am probably staring right at it - but where is the option to set Access 2010 so that it automatically opens a specified database on startup?
View 1 Replies View RelatedCannot Open Database". It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt. I have a colleague that is using Microsoft Access to import objects from SQL server but he's getting the above error. I've checked the login my colleagues uses and it has all the right permissions ect but I cannot seem to figure out why this error is still happening. Is it something to do with the SQL server or Microsoft Access?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to get windows server 2012 task scheduler to open my access database. When the task runs all that I see happen is the locking file will appear on my desktop and I have to go to the task manager and kill it to make it stop. I tried a .bat file to open it as well and im still getting the same thing. If I just click on the database and open it manually it runs just fine.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a split database with the backend on our server. When I go to my server and look at all the open files on the network everyone who is in the backend shows up twice. One has zero locks and the other has multiple locks.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi want to ask is there any way to open another access database using when click button at form.. for example i have tracking.accb then at my switchboard form, i would like to have a button that can go to another access which is borrow.accb. can these possible for me to do it..?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 2003 .mdb file and the associated Workgroup Information File which normally resides on a network in a folder V:V-Base-DatabaseDATA. I have the Workgroup Information File.
The database is unsupported and we need to migrate the data to a new web based database.
When I try to open the database with the shift key down I get the following message :
You do not have the necessary permission to use the V:V-Base-DatabaseDATAV-Basebe.mdb object.
What is the best way to access the data and do I need to do this on the server instead of a local drive off site?
I work in three different databases, but for one of them (the main company db), if I right clicked the pinned Access program on the taskbar and click the pinned database, it does nothing if someone else has the file open already. If the file isn't open, it'll pop up with an "Unknown publisher" warning (new, never happened before this), but it'll open the file. If someone has the database open, it doesn't flicker or even try, it just does nothing.
I am able to open Access and click on the database in the "Recent files" and have it open that way. I don't know what to troubleshoot, its like it's not seeing the file, but I can go to the properties on the pinned db and it shows the correct file location. I'm the only one having this issue, the other users here can right click the pinned program and open the file like normal.
I've rebooted my computer; unpinned and removed from list; compacted and repaired; nothing is making a difference.
All of the sudden I get an error message when I try to open my database from a file rather than through Access. If I open Access first and open the file that way, there is no problem but if I click on it from Windows Explorer, I get the error.
See picture.
I have just noticed when I open one of my forms . the database window becomes inactive and I cannot open another , form , report etc.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to open a MS Access Database which was made in MS Access 1997 or MS Access 2000, at the moment i am using MS Access 2010, i cannot open the database or link the tables.i do not have MS Access 2000 anymore.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI linked table rawdata from a database called competitor from a ODBC Database. I run a query with to make a table with a criteria where it retrieves roughly 10 columns with 719,000 rows. And it gives me this error.
(Cannot open database". It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt.
I asked the creator of the database and they said the database grows automatically and it was created with the same Access version as i am using to run the query.
Also when I do a RUN without creating a table and just selecting and displaying the data it does not give me any issues.
I have a database that has a main form, and from that main form there are buttons that open their respected forms. I am curious as to how I control the size of all of my forms. They are all pop-ups at the moment. It all works fine on my monitor, but when opened on a smaller monitor it is too big and I can't even see the bottom of the screen. The main form is set to open automatically after the user logs into the database and it opens to fit the screen. also, all of my forms are modals.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have made a form on access which will be used by other employees within the company, however they have never used access before and they are wanting to access only just the form as I feel with Access and all the tools in the background will confuse them, plus I don't want them editing the data base its self.
Is there a way to only bring up the form, unless I obviously need to edit the date base.
I've done some research on Google and it seems I need to use:
SW_SHOWMINNOACTIVE
However I can not seem to find how I would use this or where?
and also if i did find a way to only bring up the form, how would I be able to switch it from that veiw to the veiw I edit in?
Hello. I haven't seen this before with Access; I've searched the forum and haven't found anything yet...
I have an Access database that was being used by about 9 different people. Everything was going along okay, but one day it became read-only for no reason. Once everyone got out of the DB it said it needed repairing. So with only one person in I ran the repair, but the horror-inducing message "The Microsoft Jet database engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time." appears and when I click "OK" on the message nothing happens whatsoever.
Luckily backups existed, but some data was lost. Is there anyway to run a repair on the database that won't open? Or is it a lost cause?
Thank you! :D
We've got a client that runs two access 97 based databases on their network. up until recently both databases worked
fine on all workstations (all XP Pro).
About 3 weeks ago they called me to report that one of the databases would not load on 3 workstations. It opened
fine on all the others. I checked out the permissions on the database (which is stored centrally on the server) and
everyone had full control.
Within the last week they have added two new xp pro workstations to the domain - neither of which can access the
database in question. they can access the other database no problem - as can all the other workstations.
The occurs as follows:
1. Double click on the icon for the database
2. access 97 loads but does not load the database's interface - instead it opens an empty version of access (with
file menu etc at the top)
3. no specific error messages at all.
4. close access and the standard xp program crash message appears (see screenshots below)
As mentioned above, other workstations can open the database fine.
the only thing that has changed on the network is the installation of some server and workstation based production
software - we have not yet consulted with the company that installed this - we felt that if it was this software
causing the problem then all workstations would be suffering. we wil have to consult with them once we've exhausted
all the possibilities.
Thanks in advance for any advice

I have a user who is having trouble opening a database he created. Here is his description.
I am having an issue with Access that has occurred today and once several weeks ago.
First, I build a complex database for Safeway report. It functions correctly, I can access it from excel.
Problem, I go to update or modify the databases, Access gives me the macro message which I override.
The access database window will not open, no error appears, just a blank access screen with tool bars above.
I have tempted to do a compact and repair of the database which did not help.
Microsoft Online help says the issue can be cause by old Anti Virus Software.
The database will permit excel to pull data from it.
Does anybody have an answer.
I've inherited a database and I need to export the data to a new program. I can access the DB through a front-end program, but it doesn’t give an option to export the data. I have a username/password for the program, but I can’t open the DB in access. I can't even get to the point of entering a password. The program is 8 years old and the company has been acquired by another company. I tried contacting the new company and they’ve never heard of the version that I have. I’ve even tried contacting a supervisor.
On opening the db immediately gives the error:
“You do not have the necessary permissions to use the ‘C:.....mdb’ object. Have your system administrator or the person who created this object establish the appropriate permissions for you.”
I’ve tried the following with no luck:
1. Create a shortcut to use an alternate mdw file. "C:XXXMSACCESS.EXE" "C:XXXdata.mdb" /WRKGRP "C:XXXSystem.mdw"
2. Holding down the shift key while opening the file
3. Compact and repair
4. Converting it to prior version
5. Creating a new database and importing all objects
Is there a way to "read" the db file to see if there is a valid user name?
I found the following suggestion, but have no idea how to do it:
http://www.vba-programmer.com/Access_Code/List_Groups_Users.txt and this
http://www.vba-programmer.com/Access_Code/Security_Listing_Permissions.txt
and try the .mdw files again, using the users(and/or groups) that have permission
If it's still not working?, there might be a way to jerry these
http://www.vba-programmer.com/Access_Code/Security_User_to_Group.txt
http://www.vba-programmer.com/Access_Code/Security_Group_Account.txt
http://www.vba-programmer.com/Access_Code/Security_User_Account.txt
I'm not a programmer so if anyone has any easy solutions (or even better a sample!) I’d greatly appreciate the help!
Thanks in advance!!
Joe
If I already have an Access database open (sometimes I've forgotten about it), when I try to open another one from my desktop, it maximizes the first Access window, and then my computer freezes--I have to CTRL-ALT-DEL and close both of them through Task Manager to continue.
I have never seen this happen on anyone else's computer. Does anyone know what is causing the problem? It is not any one database; the problem occurs no matter which are opened.
Thanks in advance.
We have 11 computers on the network. One has an Access back end file. When we try to open this file via the network some of the computers can open it others get the follwing message.
"Microsoft Access cannot open this File
This file is located outside your intranet or
on an untrusted site. Microsoft Access will not
open the file due to potential security problems.
To open the file copy it to your machine or an
accessible network location."
Do not understand why all the coputers cannot open the same access database file. Please Help Regards Keith
I have an access database which is shared, I can open it on 2 pcs at the same time no problem. I also have an html and asp page which is used to add recoreds to the database, this works fine if the database is closed everywhere else but this cannot be the case. I am now desperate for answer to any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have attached the asp file, I can upload all files and database to a server if someone requires them (too big for the forum).
Thanks,
Richard
I have MS Access on my PC however wish to move the accdb file to a network location to allow other network users to have access to it.
Unfortunately a few of the other users do not have MS Access. Is it possible for them to still open the database without any admin or background - I would like them to be able to use the forms and 'front end'.
