General :: How To Split Hyphen From Text In Access 2010

May 4, 2015

I have been doing an exercise to split the data from the list of the information into column A, B & C. Unfortunately the data value that i have consist of several set of data format therefore it create an issue for me to separate the information in Access 2010 easily.

eg.

Original Data Field
FLRY-B-0.75-L-GY
FLRY-4.0-V-R
VTAC-GY 19X20
COT-F2-5-DL

Actual Data To Populate Into Column A, B & C should be the following :

A
FLRY-B
FRY
VTAC-GY
COT-F2

B
0.75
4
19X20
5

C
L-GY
V-R
(No data captured for this column)

General :: Access 2010 Split Database Hyperlinks Not Working / When Copy Of Front End Moved

Jul 14, 2014

I have built an Access 2010 split database on my computer and it functions as built. My next step was to copy it to the server at work and test it. I discovered the tables had to be re-linked and so did that. As I have read in the Access World Forums in order to function as a multi-user database a copy of the front end must be placed on the individual workstation with the back end residing on the server, however the hyperlinks in the back end will not function when the copy on the workstation is run. I simply get an unable to open "filename" error pop-up. I can run the server copy and everything functions as built. I know that the hyperlinks require all the files to be in the same folder (relative vs. absolute), but if the back end contains all the hyperlinks why does the location of the front end seem to affect the operation of the back end?

Modules & VBA :: Securing Access 2010 Split Database?

Dec 9, 2013

I have a split db with tables in the back end and my forms, reports, code etc. in the front end.

I encrypted the back end with a password. That worked fine.

I deleted and relinked my tables to the encrypted back end. That worked fine as well.

I have a function that will disable the shift key bypass. If I run that in my front end db then I can't save it as an accde because I can't get to the HOME screen. If I save it as an accde first then I can't run my 'disable shift key bypass' function because I can't get to the modules!

How can I secure a split Access 2010 database so that the user cannot execute shift bypass on the front end or make any changes to the code?

General :: Calendar Synchronization - Access 2010 To Outlook 2010

Mar 23, 2015

I wish to work in Access 2010 with a subset of my Outlook 2010 contacts (all desktop- no network barriers), so I am exploring the Desktop Contacts DB found in Microsoft's templates. It passes contact data back and forth using the standard macros, but I wish to add more fields from Outlook. It seems I need to find the code associated with the macro. I believe I can solve the problem using a Linked table, but am wondering if there is another solution?

Calendar synchronization is another issue. Linking gets me to the Archive Calendars, but not the Current one in Outlook which is what I want.

Split Form Column Headings (Names) In Access 2010

Feb 26, 2014

Is there a way of changing the column heading names on the split form portion of an access form. I tried changing them using a query to populate the form and changing the caption of each field in the query and that didn't work. I also tried adding a [Caption] at the design level of the table and that had no affect also. The split form seems to be displaying a portion of the actual field name or something like that.

I have a group of part number doesn't come with a standard format. It is very tricky since some does come with some regular flow but some are not. Therefore i try to take 2 different sample category.

My idea is to split the LPN into 3 column eg. CIVUS (Type), 0.13(SIZE), BR (COLOR)

TRA_LPN TYPE SIZE COLOR
CIVUS-0.13-BR
AVS3.0G-B
AVSSH-2.0F-G

TRA_LPN

FLRYY-4X0.75-B
V-R2-0.75-W

Tables :: Validation Rule Doesn't Recognize Hyphen As Text

Feb 15, 2013

I'm struggling with a validation rule that almost works but not quite.

I want to restrict the values in a feild by characters between 0-9, A-Z, _ and -

Using the following string works for all except the hyphen, which I assume is because it's an operator:

Is Null OR Not Like "*[!((a-z) or (0-9) or (_) or (-))]*"

Is there something I can do to make it recognise the - as text?

Queries :: Access Query Parameters With Hyphen?

Jun 9, 2013

I have a table field that contains a lot of part numbers in different format. One could be with hyphen while others are without hyphen.

record#1 : 4535-300-34567
Record#2: 453530034567
Record#3: 4535-301-56721

In this case record# 1 & 2 are same part number only difference is hyphen.

I want to set my query parameter [Enter part number] such a way, when some one enter 453530034567 it should pull both the record (record#1 & 2).

Access 2010 Text Box Running Sum Stops Computations On Second To Last Row

Oct 10, 2011

I'm using an Access 2010 report to recreate a spreadsheet that contains rows consisting of fourteen columns of data. Each column is totaled. The data types are numeric and the property sheet format is either Standard or Percent depdening on the column.

In order to track the totals, I utilize two text boxes for each column. One is visible and contains the data for that particular row. The other is hidden and has its Running Sum property set to "Over All". The final totals row consists of text boxes that reference the final result of the running sum text box.

This works up to a point. I see correct totals results for columns 1-10. Then for some reason the running count appears to stop for the second to last row of column 11. (It's always the second to last row). As a result, the totals for this column (11) and subsequent columns (12-14) do not total.

General :: Access 2010 And Access 2003 On Same Desktop?

Mar 5, 2013

is there a way to have both Access 2010 and 2003 exist peacefully on the same desktop. My company uses Office 2010, but my department has an Access 2003 application. As a result, I have to have A2003 on my desktop and use it quite frequently for this one application.

I have some small databases that I really want to move onto A2010 so we can take advantage of SharePoint functions, etc. Is there anytning I can do to be sure that the .mdb and .mde open in A2003 and the new .accdb opens in A2010, without getting errors and the Windows installer going through the Office installation process for the respective version? I've gone to the file locations and set the "Open with" setting to the respective version.

1. What are my steps into making this into a SPLIT DB? I am assume the BE will have my linked tables from SQL and the FE will have my temp tables and forms. Is this correct?
2. Once I split it, then I can make an .ACCDE file for a Mulit User environment, is this correct?

What other steps should I be made aware of?

Queries :: Access 2010 Query Won't Recognize Criteria From Form Text Box

May 7, 2014

I've been writing queries in the following format for years in Access 2003, but having recently transistioned to Access 2010, I've found the following sql doesn't work.transform

sum(s.value)
SELECT
s.sn, s.ln, s.pn, s.id, s.lat, s.point, s.supply_type, s.used, s.real, s.code, c.name
FROM
supply_points s
, codes c
WHERE
s.code = c.code
and s.id is not null
and s.code = 1075
and s.month >=[forms]![main]![gppstart ]
group by
s.sn, s.ln, s.pn, s.id, s.lat, s.point, s.supply_type, s.used, s.real, s.code, c.name
pivot
s.month

In Access 2010, this query returns the following error message:the Microsoft Access database does not recognize '[forms]![main]![gppstart]' as a valid field name or expression

Is this a common phenomena in Access 2010?

General :: How To Access 2007 / 2010 Colour Picker

May 1, 2013

I've been updating the look of some of my db's and am trying to access the new style colour picker per Office 2007/10.

Up to now I have been using

Private Declare Function ChooseColorAPI Lib "comdlg32.dll" Alias "ChooseColorA" (pCHOOSECOLOR As ChooseColor) As Long

which displays the pre 2007 style.

I've looked all over the web but cannot find anything relating to the current style (other than using it from the ribbon or control properties), so not sure if I should be looking for a different function or a change to the ChooseColor type values.

All db's are running 32bit access and at the moment 32bit OS but will no doubt have OS upgrades to 64bit soon.
