General :: Access To Display Paper Clip Icon

Dec 21, 2012

I am using the attachment field in my form in Access 2010. I downloaded a picture (a picture of paper clip) from the web to use it as the display image for the attachment field. When using the form, the paper clip picture is displayed so long as there is no attachment. When a file is attached, the display image changes to the type of file (in my case pdf). However, I want Access to display the paper clip icon.

General :: Setting Up New (portion) Of DB?

Mar 12, 2013

I am adding another portion to my database and since this is a little different than the other parts I created, I wanted to get some input from the experts.

I am adding Certifications to my database. I am currently tracking skills, OSHA, & Licenses for all employees. My current count for the Certification is around 45. I'm wondering if I should set this up like I did my Skills (look up table for skills that is connected by a one to many relationship to another table) or have all the info on one table?

General :: Program That Can Identify A Entry In Field

Aug 2, 2012

I have made a program that can identify a entry in a field (ID) and change the quantity of a field. However, if can only identify numbers. I have the code as follows:

Code:
Option Compare Database

Sub AddToInventory()
Dim tb As DAO.Recordset
Dim I As Integer
I = 1
Do Until I = 2
On Error GoTo Canceled

[code]...

The "where ID2 = " only works with numbers. Is there anyway I can make this work with Strings? Basically, Find the string in a column and update the quantity.

General :: Custom Database Icon

Oct 17, 2014

Creating and installing a custom icon for my database but I'm still seeing the access icon. I've done these things:

-I made a 32x32 bitmap in photoshop.
-I saved it in the same folder as my database.
-I opened access 2007 with my database
-I went to access options/current database/application options/application icon and browsed for my bitmap.
-Clicked on use as form and report icon.
-Closed everything and reopened my database.

I couldn't see my icon anywhere in explorer, access or my desktop shortcut for my database.I repeated all this except I put the bitmap into an online icon creator and downloaded an .icon for win vista and win 7 which I selected as above.

General :: Calendar Icon In Textbox To Populate Chosen Date

Oct 14, 2013

I have started converting our Access 2003 to Access 2010 applications. In the past we have used the Calendar to pick a date to place in a textbox. I noticed that this feature will not work in Access 2010.

So I looked around and saw several references to using the calendar pick feature to a textbox...but without success.

How to have a textbox with a calendar icon next to it to populate the chosen date in the textbox?

Identify Errors Preventing Data From Importing From Access To Excel

May 1, 2014

I have been consistently getting an error almost every month when I try to load some data that has been input into access, then I have it linked to an excel sheet so that whenever I refresh, the access data imports into excel and updates my pivots, charts, etc.

When my data entry ppl enter data, sometime they forget to enter a code, or something, and when they forget to enter that, it creates some kind of error in the query. The query still runs in access, but shows something similar to " #ERROR#" in the field IF I ever do find it in the access query. The issue is that I cant filter to find that error. I literally have to scan and scroll through thousands of lines of data to try and find this error. When I try to refresh the data in excel, the following error message pops up;

"Data could not be retrieved from the database. Check the database server or contact your database administrator. Make Sure the external database is available, and then try the operation again."

In past months I can usually find the #ERROR# by scrolling through access and finding it. Some months I have EXTREME trouble finding the error. It can take hours out of my work day. Is there any way to more easily identify which line these errors are in rather than scrolling through thousands of lines of data? Is there a way to still export the data to excel with the errors still in them?

I DO NOT use the Calendar icon in my application or any third party software.

General :: Possible To Move Navigation Panel?

Oct 14, 2012

Or maybe even undock it? I know I can show it or not but sometimes it's in the way or not big enough. If I open it to show the full length of the names it makes the working window too small. Seems like there should be a way to move it to the bottom for example. Then you could see the full length of the table/queries/forms/etc. names while still seeing the full window of detail for the working window.

General :: Navigation Control With Query?

Jan 21, 2013

I have a form for testing purposes only it is named "Navigation Form". It has a tab called WorkingInitial. Within WorkingInitial I have a form called QueryTester. With a list box called List0.

Basically I want to click on the tab and the query to automaically filter based on the criteria I create. I dont want to have to create a bunch of forms with each seperte query. I want VBA to modify the Query.

This is what i have an I have no clue why it doesnt work or what I am missing.

Code:
Private Sub WorkingInitial_Click()
Dim strSQL As String
List0 = strSQL
strSQL = "SELECT * FROM [Table1 Query].[My.StatusInitial] WHERE StatusInitial = 'Working';"
End Sub

General :: Lock The Open Navigation Pane?

Jan 9, 2014

I want to keep the navigation pane open for use by the users, but I want it locked so that the users can't click on the top menu and change the pane's display from All Access objects to any of the other choices.

LockNavigationPane set to Yes is not the solution as this only prevents people adding, deleting and moving objects (such as tables/querys/forms).

General :: New Objects Created Don't Appear In Navigation Pane

Oct 30, 2013

I'd like to count the number of objects in my DB to check if I'm running into the 32,768 object limit. I'm experiencing unusual and disconcerting behavior, and all the normal corruption repair techniques aren't working. I've imported all the objects into a new database container, decompiled, compact & repair, and nothing works until the I delete some objects (forms, reports, queries, etc).

New objects created don't appear in the navigation pane until I close and re-open. Also, changing a query type from select to append doesn't result in the icon changing in the navigation pane.Code seems to run fine and everything else appears OK, but I really can't continue development until this issue is resolved. I fear continued development may lead to further corruption.after 20 years, this application has grown, I use a variety of techniques to get the size of the application. Currently:

1. 201,200 lines of code in 910 modules, reports and forms.
2. 544 forms
3. 328 reports
4. 3,617 queries (yes, I know, but it's so much work)
5. 450 tables (about half are linked)

I always thought, without thinking too deeply, that the number of objects in the spec refers to the number of reports, forms, modules, etc. But, now I'm wondering, do they also mean all the controls on the forms, and or the fields in the tables? What do they mean by objects.

I used Point Limited's translation modules recently to extract all the label and caption text for a French language translation project and it pulled out something like 21,000 individual controls, and, combined with this issue, I'm beginning to wonder...

General :: How To Make Windows Default Navigation Work

Dec 17, 2013

How do I make the windows default navigation work to the following:-Next record that navigates to next, but does not create a new record when at EOF. New record that creates a new record.

I've tried turning off 'Allow additions' for the form, but that turns off the 'New Record' button, so that's not right Perhaps it's me but the default way in which the navigation buttons work is strange. I would have thought the next button would only go next and wouldn't do new.
