Hello - just joined today. I hope to be of some help to other users, but am kind of a newbie.
I have an excel ss that I regularly receive which needs to go into my access DB. I set up a macro with transferspreadsheet and that works, except for one problem. I have one field which is designed as text but has data that looks like numbers as well as data that looks like text. When I run the macro, the number-like data doesn't import as text (23602012345 imports as 2.3602e+010). FYI the field in access is already defined as text. Each time I import a ss, I am appending to the existing data in the table
I have tried formatting the excel column as text with no luck. If I remove the data that truly is text in that column (ABC1287567) and leave just the 236* data, and then format the excel column as text, it seems to work fine. It just doesn't like the mixing of the data...at least it seems to me.
Any ideas to avoid manual manipulation of my excel ss before running the macro would be very helpful.
Anyone out there have any ideas on how to Import an Excel File (SPECIFIC worksheet) to an Access Database
I am looking to do this at the click of a button or when the database opens...
What I really want to do is...... Is there a way to import this into an already existing table. Delete the existing records and import the new records from the Excel Spreadsheet?
I am failry new to Access, and am trying to import an Excel spreadsheet into a Table. I go all the way through the import wizard, and it gives me an error that it cannont create, and then it goes back to the last screen, and I have no Idea what is wrong.
I have looked under many help's and online tips, and searched this site to no avail. As far as I can tell everything should be acceptable to import. I have unique column header titles, no blank rows, nothing over 255 characters, and it still does not work. Can anyone give me some advice on what is wrong in this spreadsheet causing it not to be imported?
I have a default directory that will contain Excle spreadsheets. This spreadsheets have the name of the table i want them to create when they are imported in Access.
I want first to count and present to the user the number of the spreasheets. then import one name the table with the name of the spreadsheet and then process. When done move to the next one until there is no more in the directory...
I have a procedure that imports excel spreadseet to access table ever today. today it failed. Forrmat was the same as yesterday.
I did 'copy/paste special/format' from yesterday's file; still today's file wouldn't import.
Tried to copy manually to the table, got the error message about 'field not being in the same format'
Went to table's design view, and changed everything to 'memo', the was able to do copy/paste. There wer no values with more then 20 characters I was able to change 'memo' back to text and date/time without loosing any date.
Has anyone ecountered this ? Going changing table, and then chaging it back doesn't sound like the best practice what can be done ? can abything be done to excel file ?
I'm trying to import an Excel file into access as a table so I can use the data in other tables I am building. When I try to import to file, I get an error message telling me that there are over 255 columns and not all my data will be imported. The file is a report I pull from another system at work and it is very large, is there a way to get past the 255 column limit?
I have an Excel spreadsheet. I need to import it into Access, preform calculations in several queries, create a new table (I will call it Table2), and then export it to a new text file. I have a data type issue though.
I need to do this monthly, using the same spreadsheet with updated data.
My steps are: -Update the linked Excel spreadsheet. (I will call it Table1) -Run a query to delete the data in Table2. -Run an append query to update Table2 with my calculations and data from Table1 ****I need my end result to have specific data types different from the Excel spreadsheet(Table1)**** -Export to a text file.
If I do an update query my data types change because I drop Table2. I need my data types in Table2 to be different from Table1.
With my append query I get a conversion type error. I know why I get this and that makes sense, but I do not know how to solve my problem.
Is it possible to import an excel spreadsheet which contains some merged cells. What I have got is a spreadsheet (like Raw Data in the zip file) and I need it looking like (Finish Data) but in a access table.
I am trying to format a spreadsheet to import into a Table. To do this I need to delete the top 8 rows and then the 4 rows below the data I need, both areas contain header data. The 4 rows below the data I need are blank but formatted oddly and it is causing issues during import.

I am trying to create an ODBC link to a copy of the Northwind data base.I am running Win7 on a 64 bit operating system but am keeping office running as 32 bit for Access, Excel , Visio etc due to the fact that I have a lot of old apps tied to them.
When I attempted initially to create a new system DSN ODBC connection it only allowed me to use SQL drivers. (No plurry good) So after some searching I found out that I could use a file in C:WindowsSysWOW64 called "odbcad32.exe" which has allowed me to view /use the total list of drivers to import data.So I can set up a DNS ODBC named Northwind1 and I can access the database without problems using Excel.However if I try to use the same ODBC link in Access to connect to Northwind1 I get the following error message:"You cannot use ODBC to import from export to, or link an external ?Microsoft Access or ISAM database table to your database".

I have an Access crosstab query that I have exported to an Excel Spreadsheet. I have the spreadsheet formatted using conditional formatting and I'd rather not have to reset it every morning. It's a single spreadsheet (the columns/rows will not deviate greatly day to day) and should be very simple, but I'm not getting it for some reason.
So if I have "Test.accdb" and it contains "qryX" as my crosstab and "Sheet1.xls" is my formatted Excel spreadsheet, how do I code for the latest "QryX" to go in and replace the old "QryX" data in "Sheet1.xls" ?

I have a database, which contains one table tbX, which ist interesting in this context. tbX needs to be updated on a regular basis, hence it would be very helpful to automate this process.
Source is the table tbY, which is located in another database in a different directory. What I am looking for is basically a query (or do I need a macro?), which deletes tbX, imports tbY and changes its name to tbX.
As there is no macro recorder like in Excel I find it very difficult to find a start here... :confused:
I'm having problems importing a spreadsheet from Excel for a client.
They are using Access 2003 and Excel 2007, 3.5GB RAM
It works perfectly on my machine - Excel 2010 and Access 2007-2010, 4 GB RAM.
The file is imported in Excel 97-2003 format via a macro using the transferspreadsheet function.
It returns error 3274: "external table is not in the expected format."
There are 1488 rows and 71 columns in the spreadsheet and resulting table - in future additional columns may need to be added representing new critical data.
The interesting thing was that it worked fine on my machine. Then as a trial and error process I cut the file down to 26 columns and it worked fine. 52 columns also imported. But it gave up when there were 71 columns.
if 52 columns * 1488 rows =77,376 record worked, that's more than the magic number of 65,536. but it doesn't like 71*1488 = 105648 records. Is there a limit at 100,000, or some other number in between? I would have thought Access could hold/import much more than this.
I have a database sitting on my server for which individual users login to over the network with their own User name and password. Within my database there are links to data from external sources (SQL based).
My query is, if the database remains open at all times, once the link to the data has been established after keying the SQL database password, how do I stop it from asking each user that logs in to enter the password again each time they dip into the database? (If Possible).
Hi, I want to create a delete query that uses information stored in an external excel file. This file is constantly being updated so it isn't ideal to keep loading it into the access database. I need to use the excel file to remove any records appearing in my access table that are matching with the excel file. Make sense? Can anyone out there help - it this at all possible? Thanks,
I am trying to automatically import student data from excel into an access relational database structure to use the data to report progress in an ongoing manner.I have managed to import an excel sheet with the raw data and I analysed it through the wizard and have produced a clean relational database with the data.
I was wondering, now that I have the access database structure defined, is there a way to now import new data from another excel file (new data with same headers) to the newly created relational database? I was hoping to append to the existing data with only new data from the excel sheet.

I need to import an excel file every week into Access. The file is always saved in the same folder called "Current" however the file name changes week to week because of a date and time stamp.
For example this week the file is named:

I'd like to import an excel file but the data begin from cell "A10", above there is a "privacy text".Is it possibile import or link the excel data in an access table directly from the cell A10?
I have split my database in Front End och Back End, and both are password protected. The Front End has been converted to ACCDE.
When I try to import to Excel from Front End and/or Back End using database connections I receive a message telling me that I am using an invalid password (even though I use the same password when I encrypt/decrypt FE and BE). I've tried using Access import, ODBC and Microsoft Query. (In some cases I 'm also prompted to set a username, which I do not know which it should be since I haven't set one in my database (except the automatic "admin"))
So I have a macro in excel which imports data from the excel sheet to a table in access db. Now the excel file has 4 columns which have dates.
- I imported the excel file from access via access so that I can get the heading of the table and the table is created. Then I deleted all the data in the table. - When the table was imported 2 of the date columns got set as Short/text data type. Dont know why. - Now, if I leave the data type as it is in Access table, my macro button in EXCEL works fine and imports the data to Access. If I change the data type, in access design, of the two data columns to date type, I get the type mismatch error when I run the import macro button in EXCEL.
I am going nuts over this error. I even created a blank table in access and defined data types to all columns which would be imported from excel. but still excel macro button shows the same error.
I checked the format of all the four date columns is date.
I did a lot of hit and try and could it be the case that if access table fields are defined properly, but any of the data columns cells in excel sheet is null/empty, it will show the type mismatch error.
ALTERNATIVELY, is it possible and is there a way, that once the data is imported to access, I can convert the value in the column from short text to date type.
Hi Im having a real problem. Im trying to import a query into Excel so a fancy graph can be made. In Excel when I go to Data-> Import External Data then connect to my Database. A list of queries and tables appear however the query I want is not in the list but it definately exists in Access why is this?? Really Frustrating
