General :: Importing Excel File With VBA Without Headers And Skipping First 3 Rows

Basically I want to import an excel file that doesn't have any column headings and the data starts on row 4. I already have a table with all of the column headings set in Access.
My research led me to create an import specification and then edit that in the 'mSysIMEXSpecs' Table to Start on Row 4 and then use that spec in VBA to transfer the file to my table. That all seems good, but it seems like an Import Spec only gets saved to the 'mSysIMEXSpecs' Table if you are importing a text file. Nothing gets saved there for Excel.

Hi Folks.
As a newbie in Access, but not in Excel, I tried to 'get external data' from an Excel spreadsheet into an existing Access table.
However, it brought in blank rows because those rows had a formula in them but nothing else.
Any way to avoid the blanks being imported??

I am using Access 2007 and we are importing an Excel spreadsheet that is received from our customer on a regular basis.When I open the Access table I see over 9,900 empty rows at the start. Following this is the actual data from the spreadsheet.Is there an import setting somewhere that would eliminate all these blank rows?

hi, i have struggled to import some data from an excel file into an sql database..
i have used phpmyadmin and certain code snippets but have failed miserably..
basically my excel file has lots of data, and within each cell, each bit of data is in single quotes...
eg.
'jonathan' '23' 'hardman' 'cheese'
there are no headings in the excel file (as in column or row titles) the data is just raw.
once i have made the table (with the appropriate fields and datatypes for the csv file) how can i import that data into a table using ms access???

So I have had Access for all of one day now. I am trying to import an excel file into access as a table. I successfully imported the first file but the second file gives me an error that says "An error occurred trying to import file ____. The file was not imported." What are the possible reasons this error has occurred? Both excel files I am importing are in the same format, so I am confused as to why one worked but the other did not. Thanks for any help.

Hi
My question is: how do I set up the table to minimize redundant data. I have several fields that match the column headings in Excel, so the data can be imported, but fields like user name, pick slot, batch # all get redundant every time I import. My file is getting unnecessarily large. I know splitting the one table into many is the right thing to do, but don't have a clue how to import the data than. any help

Is the record is already existing in access, but a few fields are blank, is there any way to import an excel file that just updates those blank fields for the specific record?
For example,
I have an excel file that includes files that are ready to ship out. My access database already has those file names, but does not have the shipping box number. Is there any way to import the excel file into my database, have it find those specific file names and update the shipping box number field? The excel file won't be adding any new records, just appending existing records.

I have an excel file that I need to prepare to create a report.It would be great if I could do this with Access 2003. This would mean that I need to import the excel file and create a table to handle this.Is there by any chance that I don't need to create a table and I can process the excel file? Or maybe automate the import of the excel file into table and only use a few of the columns so later I can create the report in access.Also what I need to do is add some columns with text in it (a standard text) that needs to add a day taken form the column to the right.
I simply would like to avoid to create a table from the import as this would make me end with a lot of tables (or mabye option to delete the table after finishing producing the report.

The access file has a lot of rows which do not show on the excel file. The added files in access either have a space before their names, an * before their names, or no name at all. I would attach the new access file but it does not show up on my windows 7 list of files on my computer. It only shows up as a new file on my access program.

I am importing data from an Excel spreadsheet in Msaccess table. I am using Docmd.Transferspreadsheet method. I am able to import the data, but what I would like to do is to import only certain fields from the spreadsheet. I am able to do with the wizard, but the Transferspreadsheet does not have that option.

Using CVdate converts jan, feb, nov and dec to correct date, but gives an error message with mar to oct.

I am importing a delimited .txt file that has a number field. A value for a record coming in is 36,767 and Access is not accepting it. If I redefine the field as long integer or as double, I can manually update the record, but as soon as the file containing the record is imported, the field reverts back to integer.
How do I format the field with VBA so that Access will accept the value and not revert to integer?

I have a Access DB created. I have a field, which is a dropdown list. The users can go in to a form and manually create a record into the table etc.
However, i've some data that I'd like to import into the DB.
This data is in Excel.
When i import the data, everything is fine but the column that has the information for the dropdown field does not import.
so to clarifiy, the field in the DB is a dropdown list.
the field in the Excel data is just a plain text entry.
is there somehow i can import this data?

importing data from two excel sources to one table. I have a table with: Unit, Info1, info2, info3, info4, info5, info6, info7. I have been able to import from the first file which has all of the unit information-'info1-5'. I need to import another file to fill 'info6-7' based on specific unit numbers. I have created two excel tables the first with the headers "unit, info1-5" and the second with the headers "unit, info6-7." The first works fine and adds all the data I want it to, but when I try to do the same with the second it doesn't add any new data.I cannot add the last two fields to my first spread sheet because it would involve sorting through 700+ units and adding the data manually to 400+ of them.

I'm having difficulty getting my import to work... when i call on the original XML file I get too many tables... when i call on the XML file using the transform function of Access with the XSL file it gives me only two tables "body" and "tr". Body contains the value "Weather" and tr contains the value "Day".
Import the day as month/day/year into a field "Day" in access table "WeatherSFCAL"
Import the Fahrenheit temp from the high section into the field "High" in access table "WeatherSFCAL"
Import the Fahrenheit temp from the low section into the field "Low" in access table "WeatherSFCAL"

Here is the import statement I'm using:
DoCmd.TransferText acImportDelim, "IT315 Import Specification_txt", _
"IT315", "D:4533 Hires Rehire Status ChangeIT315.txt"
I can manually transfer the data ie thru File --> Get External Data etc but I can't seem to get the above statement to work --- with the same specification!!
The details are in the attached doc file.

I am having difficulty importing a large txt file into my database, due to the first column containing a * prefix. normally i would just go through the document and delete it, but this file is quite large at over 100k records.
Is there anyway of importing this file in access 2010 and telling access to ignore the first column?

I am just starting out learning how to connect Access to Excel. From an Access form, I need to connect to an Excel spreadsheet, and loop through every row/column to look for data that matches a database field data, then populates the associated cell data. I don't want to import the spreadsheet since the user who created it is using it manually, and I am attempting to automate the task. This is probably the most elementary code, but I would like to start out with the best way to do this. What I am finding is code that appears to be much more complicated than I need, for more complicated situations.

I have one Access Database and i want to import the flat file coming from Cisco Phone Logs, its a comma delimited that contains the column names in the first row, and in the second row, its the data type, then the succeeding rows contains the data of the logs which are in Comma separated values, I want to put it to my created table programmatically,I used Docmd.TransferText but this will not let me define the row which i wanted to start at row 3.
