I am working on a section of code that when a user clicks a button it looks at a table called TBLVersion and increments the version number. The version number format is 1.0.1 what I need the code to do is increment the last digit by one for example to "1.0.2". I got the flowing code to work in excel but could not figure out how to translate it to access.
I am trying to open a MS Access Database which was made in MS Access 1997 or MS Access 2000, at the moment i am using MS Access 2010, i cannot open the database or link the tables.i do not have MS Access 2000 anymore.
I would like to know if there is any procedure to restrict/stop auto number increment for certain number of record count (say 50), then increment by 1 for next 50 records.
Is there a way of specifying the version number of an Access application?
e.g. In classic Visual Basic you can specify the version number in the "Project Properties" menu option and then use these values in code by doing an app.major, app.minor etc... (or something like that).
Looking to see if there is an easy solution to this problem I have.
I have a table which holds order information, the primary key for this table is orderID which is an autonumber.
The field in question is order number, which has a default value of "JJO"00000, which I have started manually at JJO10001, is there anyway i can get my database to automatically increment this number to save me from keep checking the last order number produced.
Lost count of the number of times I have gave the same order number to numerous customers.
I want to know how to reset (to start again from 1) my primary key field. As an example i have the "Customers" table with the field "customerID" as PK now i entered many values (20) then i deleted them but i want to start again and the "customerID" value starts with 21 i understand that but i want a fresh DB (i was testing things) and i want to start from 1 can i? how? i even deleted the relation between this table and the other table but no success!

I'm trying to code for a 'duplicate record' button on a form that, as well as copying the values of all the controls of the previous record to the new record, makes a certain control (which contains a number) increment as appropriate.
There are two controls on the form which contain the start and end values of a numerical sequence (of potentially any length) e.g. the range 48-82 shows 48 in text box boxREGSEQSTART and 82 in the text box boxREGSEQEND OR the single value 99 shows 99 in text box boxREGSEQSTART and text box boxREGSEQEND is empty. In a record, the value of boxREGSEQEND would always be higher than that of boxREGSEQSTART or would be blank.
The appropriate incrementing action would be:
After clicking 'Duplicate Record' button, If there is no value in boxREGSEQEND in the record being copied, then in the new duplicated record the value of boxREGSEQSTART should be 1 greater than the value of boxREGSEQSTART in the record it has been copied from.
i.e. the record being copied is records a single item, a single value, and the next record should show the sequence moved on by one
OR
If there is a value in boxREGSEQEND in the record being copied, then in the new duplicated record the value of boxREGSTART should be 1 greater than the value of boxREGSEQEND in the record it has been copied from.
i.e. the record being copied is recording multiple items, a sequence, but the next record should still show the sequence moved on by one
I can get the duplication to work no problem, and I can get the incrementing to work fine for the first set of conditions, but can't for the life of me get it to increment when there is a range!
The logic (in my head, expressed as best I can in the macro language ) for the whole sequence of actions goes like so:
RunMenuCommandCommand SelectRecordRunMenuCommandCommand CopyRunMenuCommandRecordsGoToNewRunMenuCommandCommand SelectRecordRunMenuCommandCommand Paste If [boxREGSEQEND]=[IsNull] Then GoToControlControl Name boxREGSEQSTARTSetValueItem = [boxREGSEQSTART] Expression = [boxREGSEQSTART]+1Else GoToControlControl Name boxREGSEQSTARTSetValueItem = [boxREGSEQSTART] Expression = [boxREGSEQEND]+1GoToControlControl Name boxREGSEQENDSetValueItem = [boxREGSEQEND] Expression = [boxREGSEQEND]=Null
Which I would assume would tell the program to copy the current record, make a new one and paste the copy, then if there was a range recorded in the original, start the numbering of the new record one number higher than the end of that range and clear the way in the new form in case it also records a range, otherwise just increment the sequence along by one.
I have a daabase that I am importing via excel. I want the entries to be numbered ex: MT0001 MT0002 etc....
I would like it to promt the user for the last number(or next number in sequence) entered, then fill in the blank records with the next increment number. The prefix will also change to so eventually the user would enter into the prompt RD0001. then autofill the 140 imported records with RD0002, rd0003... etc....
I can't really make seperate fields because the MT0001 number will become a barcode and putting them seperate causes many issues.
can this be done? Any help would be great I am still a beginner but slowly learning! Thanks!
Like other posters, I need the default value to be the last value plus one. I am using a subform, and the field I need to increment is ITEMNUMBER for items that are ordered for a specific project.
It is acceptable to me to replace ITEMNUMBER with 1 for the first item, I just want it to increment after that.
Clearly the use of DMAX in this situation will not work as ITEMNUM would continue to increment so that any given project might have ITEMNUM values as, for instance, 357-363 when it needs to be 1-7.
BTW - if I could use the maximum value I would set the default value of ITEMNUM on my form as:
I have two tables, Articles and Versions, related 1 to many. In my Versions table I want to set up a field that will start at 0 for the first version record related to an article record, and as version records are added in relation to that same article record I want it to increment by 1, no gaps. It ideally would be editable. It will not likely count above 5.
I have recently inheritied a database and find that there are functional differences between different versions of the database. The database contains over 30 very large tables and I am unable to find the differences between the versions. I need a process or tool that I can use to compare the different versions to find the table/record/field differences. I am up against a deadline and am needing a solution ASAP.
How do I make my database so only the creator (myself) can edit the tables, forms etc and other users see an interface starting with the switchboard, which they can't use any database tools except what the forms allow them to do?
I urgently need to generate sequential numbers (not unique - duplicates are needed as & when) via an Update Query for one field in all my rows for an Access table .. I want to call this field SalesReceipt
Another field on the same row called 'OrderID' will be the field to 'test' against (this field value is populated via a CSV import)
I need the check/logic to be along the lines of.....
If the OrderID value of this row is exactly the same as OrderID value of the row above, then don't auto increment the SaleReceipt number ....if the Order ID of this row is different to the 'OrderID ' value in the preceding row...then increment the SalesReceipt number.
How can I go about this? Essentially I need to test against the value of a field one row above against the same field in the present row....can this be done in access (perhaps using the primary key as a way of looking up the row above...becuase the primary keys will always be one number apart between rows?)
The way I've been approaching such sales receipt number generation up until now, in Excel the formula I used was this....
=IF(A3="","",IF(A3=A2,B2,B2+1)) Assuming data to be tested against started in A2, then In B2 type '1' (this being the first sales receipt number). In B3 past the formula & drag down.
But I really need to achieve the same via Access...
I have split the database, with the back-end residing on the server. Only 1 other person is working in Access right now; she's verifying the data. Today she's working directly in the back-end, could this be the problem. If it is, I'm going to have to create a front-end for her quickly.
My problem is this...I'm working on queries and forms so that the scientists who will ultimately be using this application, won't be able to go in and inadvertently change something in the tables set-up. When I'm in the back-end main data table, it says I have 2723 records.
When I create a front-end query to query all the records in that table, it says I have 2160 records.
The input form that I created with most of the same fields as the query (created BEFORE I created the query...I'll have it pull from the query now instead of directly from the table) also says we only have 2160 records.
I have completed the split and have deployed the backend to SharePoint. The front end is sat on my (and others) machines with linked tables to the SharePoint lists. This is all fine and works well.
Although this database is deployed, I am constantly working on a local copy of the database in design I.e. Tables being updated with fields and relationships and new tables being added. The reason for this is that work wanted something workable putting out there now and that I just continue its development in the background.
What is the best way to update the tables on SharePoint bearing in mind that users are putting new data on there? I don't want to lose what they are updating and then I need to redploy the 'new' backend to SharePoint again (no doubt in the same location) as that's where the front end is looking for it.how I can manage this version control of the backend without losing data.
Is there a place within an Access database besides a table where you can store a flag (text or boolean or number) that persists after the database is closed and can be checked when the database is opened (using VBA)?
I have been trying to come up with a solution for a problem I am having for a while to no avail. We have a backend database that stores various tables full of data. We then have a custom Excel Ribbon that connects to the database and pulls in the different tables depending on the user selection form the ribbon. Everything is working well on that end. The problem I am running into though is that in the development phase of the ribbon and database we had multiple versions and so there are still some people who are using old versions of the ribbon and therefore not connecting properly to the database. Is there some type of code I can add into the database and ribbon where it checks for a specific version to ensure the user is using the most recent version?
Basically, before any type of query is run to connect to the database the ribbon would have some sort of label on it somewhere and the database would check for that label and if it is correct, the code proceeds and if not a message box appears that tells the user they are not using the most current version of the ribbon and exits the sub?
I am new in ms access , I want make one database about office register. That is Have done . I gave primary key for auto increment serial number . That is working fine. Now problem is some times I want delete client name in between table .That is maybe first row or 5th row or anywhere . at the time the row deleted which is i was selected but the primary key is not update . for example I want delete 8th row . after deleting I not seen 8 in primary key place i have seen only ....,5,6,7,9,10...... etc. So how to give auto increment and decrement in the primary key......
create a macro that automatically fills in the next invoice number in sequence",,I'm assuming this macro would look at the value of the previous record and add a one to itI don't want to use a AutoNumber field as I might need
I have a master/child forms. in master form sale_id,collection notes are placed. and in child form all collection details like collectionnumber, date, etc., child form look like datasheet view.
When i select the record from the list depending on the sale_id all the collection records shown in datasheet view form. If no record is there ok. if more than one records are there in collections of sale_id.i need count of records in collection depending on sale_id and also if i select one row in collection, notes to be shown for that record when i clik on shownotes button.
If more than one record in collection automatically it increment. how many collections for the sale_id. collection number would be increment. How and also show notes depending on collection number and sale_id.
