View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I've just started with a company where my job is to manage a ton of data. I am new to Access (2010) and am completely impressed by all the awesome things it can do. However, I am running into some issues with knowing the best way to get my current data (which is all in Excel spreadsheets) into Access.
We are working with about 68 customers in 6 different focus areas (or areas of improvement). To make it easier for them, my company has not required them to enter all their data for each area into a centralized database. Instead, we are pulling reports (into Excel) from 3 different databases. The customers who are not currently submitting data to these databases are sending us Excel spreadsheets with their data (they send a seperate spreadsheet for each focus area). So you can see where my problem lies ... NOTHING is the in the same format. Even then the Excel spreadsheets look different from month to month (and customers submit a new, updated form every month with the current month and previous months) because the people managing the data before I came along changed the format a few different times and the customer has the ability to change them too.
Basically, I would really really really like to be able to just link the Excel files to my database, but I am struggling knowing how to do that with my data in so many different places and forms.
Does anyone know how to import or link files from the Quickbooks Timer program? I've tried changing it to a *.xls file extension and that didn't work, tried linking vs. importing, etc.
Any suggestions?
I'm using Access 2013. I have a directory on my hard drive that contains hundreds of image files. The name of the image file matches a field in the Access table, which are unique. I would like to match those files to the unique number in the table and create a link in a field. How would I go about this.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have made a form with different records now my goal is to filter those records and export the details of those records to excisting Word files.
So for instance:
Record filtered on:
Title: TrainingsSharepoint
Location: London
Than it wil export the details to --> Doc1.docx
Or
Title: TrainingSale
Location: Berlin
Than it will export the details to --> Doc2.docx
And so one...
The Word files already have some text in them so i want to set up variables to insert the details in the right place.
2013 does NOT recognize DBF files, we are trying to find a solid work around to LINK to our DBF files.
There are about 30 DBF files that get updated EVERY week. And there are about 60 employees that LINK to the various DBF files. Importing is not a realistic solution given these circumstances.
I am facing an issue The Custom Macro Stopped report from rendering. I have report which is having two sub reports inside. The report is opening in the report view properly but when the ExportWithFormating macro runs, it throws this error.
View 1 Replies View RelatedUpon opening a report (it does this randomly), the report opens and it is completelty blank - no lines, lables, or fields - nothing. However, when I click on an area, the group I clicked on will render and display perfectly. So when this happens, I either have to click every where on the page or scrolling up and down (if the report is long enough) will render the whole report. It doesn't do this everytime; about 25% of the time though.
As you can imagine, when other people use the database and this happens, they freak and just think access is broken. What is causing this or what can be done to prevent this from happening?
I'm using access 2007.
Morning everyone,
I have a really persistant problem with my database whereby whenever I click on a hyperlink (in the database) to a Jpeg file it will display an error message, "unknown file format" then open the file as normal. The access windows then crash.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so doe anyone have a solution or a way round it!?
Any help much appreciated, have a good day :)
Matt
Hi everyone.
I have a problem displaying jpg files in a bounded image object.
After connecting Access 03 with ODBC to a SQL Server DB (SQLSDB) I wanted to display the image content of a table (jpg files) in Access. Instead of images Access returns the image filename.
After installing Microsoft Converter Pack and Photo Edit from an old Office XP Edition I was able to display jpg in unbounded image objects and simple image objects, but still the problem with the bounded image object witch contain the jpg files remains.
Any Suggestions ???
Thanks for your time
I am working on a database with two main tables: One table that is linked in from another database, and another table contains addresses to the location of jpegs that correspond with the records in the linked table. (Every record does not have corresponding jpeg, only some of them do.) The way the forms are currently set up, there is a main form and a subform. The main form contains only a combo box where the user can choose a record. The subform shows the rest of the information pertaining to the record, including the jpeg. The problem is that all the other information changes when the user chooses a different record - except for the jpeg, it stays the same. The code to pull the jpeg into the form works when under the form load procedure, but the jpegs do not change when a different record is selected from the combo box on the form. I tried to do this a straight forward way, and then I tried using the RaiseEvent command, but nothing seems to work. I have a relationship b/t the 2 connecting fields, and I have tried all 3 join types. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am in project to send members a birth day greeting with image.
Now I have designed report containing JPEG image. but i am not able to send report to mail as Mail body using MS outlook.
It may seem a really silly question but is there any restrictions as to the file types that can be stored in an Access DB.
I havent used Access in a while, but have been asked by a friend to create a simple DB holding info about cars he is selling, he only wants to hold thumbnail images of the cars so I can either link or embed the pics! However if I try to link or embed a jpeg image nothing appears in the bound object frame except for the image title i.e. bmw325i.jpg if I do exactly the same with a bitmap image the pic is displayed???
The only other difference I have noticed is that in table view of the relevant table a bitmap appears as Bitmap Image whereas a JPEG appears as Package????
Any ideas
Thanks in advance
Simon
I am inserting a logo in jpeg format to a report. unfortunately the logo comes in very large. the frame around the logo can be adjusted but the image does not; it remains large.
View 5 Replies View Relatedpretty Excel sheet full of conditional formatting that is used as a vehicle assignment board where I work. I know I can embed the file into an Access form using an unbound object, and therefore "integrate" it into Access, however this creates a copy of the file, and therefore when people change the sheet, the original Excel file is not updated. Is there any way to embed the excel file in such a way that the Excel document itself is also updated? Basically some sort of an active, two-way link rather than what amounts to just importing a copy of it? I need to be able to pull data from various cells in that Excel file so it needs to be kept up-to-date.

I need to import a number of .csv files every day and overwrite the old tables with the data from the new .csv files. However, each day, the filenames will change.
For example,
Day 1: Import fileA 1.csv, fileB 1.csv, fileC 1.csv
Day 2: Import fileA 2.csv, fileB 2.csv, fileC 2.csv
Day 3: Import fileA 5.csv, fileB 5.csv, fileB 6.csv
The files will be named fileA [#].csv, fileB [#].csv, fileC [#].csv, and so on, with a different number each day (with no pattern to the numbers).
Is there a way to write an import specification or VBA script that will import these? Perhaps something that allows a regular expression in the file path so I can import "C:fileA*", "C:fileB*", etc.?
I am looking for a function that will allow me to encrypt/decrypt single image files as and when required. I have built my own simple one to encrypt a string that will be stored in a filename as all the ones I found created unusable filenames.
However I don't know where to start with the image file encryption.
(Any better way to encrypt a string that can be used in a file name that would be great too. My method is a bit basic).
I have a report which retrieve some links of documents in the textbox linksassociated.
I would like to have a message box which tell me when the links associated has no value " No value for your link".
I tried this:
Code:
If IsEmpty(linksassociated) Then
MsgBox "No link has been found for this document", vbInformation
Exit Sub
End If
But nothing is happened. Maybe it's not on the right place...
I need to daily import files that start with same name, but the remaining part will be Bill of lading ID (e.g. TEST_BOL 1234.csv). The next day will be TEST_BOL 1235.csv) and so on. I need for Access to import the file based on the "TEST_BOL" into my database and then delete the file from the folder. I don't know how to initialize Access to look for the prefix and import in.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to make a stand-alone version of a database whose files are mysql files connected by odbc. When I copy the linked files and save them as local files, they come in with the auto-numbered id field still marked as the primary key, but as just "number" and not auto-number. It does come in marked required. I can't change the type to auto-number, so it errors when the user tries to add a record using the input form. Also, I have the fields used to keep true/false data set up in the mysql files as integers with default values of 0. When they are saved as local tables, they come in marked required but without a default value. Hence, when a user enters a new record in a form that doesn't use that particular check box, it errors. What am I missing? Is there an easy way around this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to figure out a best way to attach files to specific records. Up until this point have been using Hyperlink to link files that have been stored in shared folders. This seemed to be a very good option for quiet sometime; but some users wish to play god ! Since I have to give them RWX permission on the folder; they go into the Shared folder and either rename the file or move it around or worse, DELETE the file permanently. Thus messing up the hyperlink.
Now I am planning to use the wretched Attachment data type in Access. I know it will bloat the DB, but this seems to be a safer option. As I can control DELETES/EDITS. So I was thinking to use a stand alone DB, just used for Attachment tables. As these records will not be accessed everytime.
My problem is, I remember vaguely using two linked backend DB files, put a lot of strain on the front end. Thus making the connection very slow. Sometime even upto 10 seconds to simply load the login form.
My idea is to establish a persistent connection to the two DB files on front end opening. Thus the connection is always there so it might not be that slow !
Or is there something I could look into to manage the Files/Attachments more efficiently, other than Hypelinking?
If I have a link setup from an access 2010 table to a word 2010 document, is there a way to export the hyperlink address in the table to word as an executable link. Rather than having to insert the link manually as a hyperlink.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhat i need to be able to do is write vba to find the value inside the comboxbox and then either:-
1. Run a macro with the same value that is in the combobox
Or
2. Run a set of reports and print them off but are linked to the combobox value.
The combobox name is ODTyper
The combobox control source is ODType which is a field in TblType
The combobox row source is SELECT [TblType].Model FROM TblType;
The value inside the combobox are in the format of TE4700
The name of the macros are in the format of TE4700
The Main form is called FrmOrderDatabase.
Plus somehow i need to get the value of the combobox and link it to print off the correct reports.
