General :: Lock File Shows Admin User Active For All Clients
Jul 2, 2013
We have a split ACC2010 database, with the back end on our server and 5 front ends on 5 client PCs. I hadn't run a compact/repair on the back end for months. When today I tried, I got the 'database is locked' error. The lock file showed 'Admin' logged on at all 5 clients. The front-ends had been closed on all 5 clients. We do not have a user called 'Admin'. Because my issue occurs for all clients, it might be caused by some sort of programming error in the front end.A VBA bug (implicit comparison to a control in an If .. Then construct) caused this type of behaviour but was resolved in Access 2007.
Trying to lock down an application by saving as ACCDE file. Saves OK but when you load application none of the controls work. I.e. button clicks do not launch "Open Form" or " Print Report" commands. But in ACCDB format application works flawlessly.
When I tried on a different machine I get an error message that says too many Table IDs. Odd since I only have 3 forms, 3 tables and 3 reports. Lots of DoCmd's and switching between the 3 forms but not sure why this would create "too many Table IDs"?
On my database I did it so it checks who logs in to the machine (through API), but now I'd like to see if someone logs in to database as Admin or regular user. How is it possible ?
I'm working on an MSAcess 2003 database and I have saved the System.mdw file to a folder on the Server and linked all users to it. When multiple users attempt to log in, they get the message
Could not use 'Admin'; filer already in use.
I have used shared system.mdw files for years with no problems. But obviously the force is not with me today.
One of my user is getting this error when trying to launch the DB - "Could not use 'admin'. File already in use. The DB is in shared mode and other users are using it without problem. What could be the issue?
I am setting up a call log for an application. Once a message has been entered, I need to restrict access to the person who created it AND to managers (who have admin privelages to the database). Since the user who created a message needs to be able to go back in and edit it if necessary, I can NOT simply restrict access to the edit form to admins.
The command that opens this form looks like this so far:Code:If ((Me.[Transaction] = "Status Call") And _ (Me.[TransactionBy] = CurrentUser())) THEN DoCmd.OpenForm "frmEditMessage" ...Else MsgBox("Blah blah blah, etc etc.")End IfI need to add something to the initial If statement like this:Code:Or (CurrentUser.isMemberOfGroup("Admins"))but I don't know the correct Access syntax for it.
What I would like to do is create a form that lets the user browse for an excel file, then will click an "import" button which then imports all the fields in excel into a table.
Im seeking for a solution to prompt all user with windows alert for Notification
Case 1:One staff applied leave and clicked "Submit" , after clicked I want the system will prompt his/her Supervisor for his/her leave approval or like a notification that the Supervisor need to go somewhere to approve (Selected Supervisor)(Maybe the Supervisor need to 7x24 Opening the access database).
I have an access 2007 database that is split front end and back end. There are about 15 users and the backend is stored on the network. Currently I am e-mailing out the FE when chagnes are made so they have the latest copy.
With everything I have read I think a bat file would work the best at allowing me to make changes on demand without having to continually email out new versions of the FE. Sometimes the changes are behind the scenes unnoticable to the user while others are obvious.
Questions: Exactly HOW does a bat file work? When the user clicks on the access file stored on their laptop? Where is the bat file stored? I am unfamiliar with where to write the bat file code as well - notepad perhaps?
I am not sure how to create a bat file and what the code should be?
For version tracking I need to put a version table in the BE and in the front end correct?
have made a few significant changes but I'm holding out e-mailing it if I can get this version copying figured out and in place first.
I have a table that contains clients. There are a few select times when there will be one client organization but I will need to have two entries--say when one department has a separate contact & record of events than another department.
In most cases these separate departments can be treated as entirely separate clients however in some ways they should be counted as one--such as when counting the number of clients that we serve.
What is the best way that I can accomplish this?
My current idea is that when this situation arrises I have some type of command button that will create a new client record in the table, copy the information from the first record, then I can change it as need be.
I don't know if this is possible, how to do it, and how to set up queries that will recognize the two entries as one record. I don't even know if this is the best way to do it
I'm creating this database for a claims management company. Yesterday I learnt about making a many to one relationship between the claims and clients tables.
Turns out its more complicated than that. Since I'm dealing with claims, a person may add their partner as the second claimant. (usually the case in mortgages)
So where parties A and B are in a relationship:
person A may claim on their own Person B may claim on their own Person A may be the primary claimant and add person B or conversely person B may be the primary claimant, adding person A.
The end goal is to automatically fill in a financial form (making use of a mail merge). So from what I know I think this means:
that grouping them as one contact is not going to work as I need them to be able to do a solo claim, and also I will not be able to easily change around who is the primary or secondary claimant, which will then carry over onto the mail merge.
So I think this means I need them as two separate contacts. However, I don't know how to create a link between them to easily add their partner to a claim.
Would this also mean I need a many to many relationship between clients and cases.
Now there is only one set of permissions Admin, and Admin has no permissions at all. When I try to check admin rights or even read rights back to the Admin it says I need to be logged in as admin, which I am.
Is there anyway at all I can either copy some information from 2 tables and put it in my back up?? I'm really stuck here and need to fix this or I'll have lost considerable amounts of work.
Does a (the) .ldb file have to be closed for another user on a network (separate FE linked to network drive BE) to read/write info to a table? Or even select info from a table?
I have a receptionist which uses a database that contains everything in the company ..there is an employee table that contains their salaries and I want to set password for this table so that the admin is the only person who can view this table .......... is that possible?? And the same thing for a form that controls this table!
I have a requirement to send a email to individual clients via my access database 2003 . I am using the email address of the client in the current open form . I then created a query using the id to filter that particular client, this query then becomes my record set.The content for the email is held in a .txt file , On my c drive . Every things appears fine however the fonts that I select in the .txt file are not being use in the actual email body. I created a word document with my preferred fonts and copied and pasted them into the .txt file but on sending the email the selected fonts do not appear.
I have attached a demo of what I am trying to do . To test enter your own email in the email address field of the form . Note the .txt file is on the C:/ drive.
I basically want to have a live preview window of the "File Link" attachment in that current record. I have heard it's best to use a Web Browser Control when doing this, but I cannot get it to display the currently attached pdf file in that field of that record.
Is there a way to edit the link properties of the Web Browser Control so that it dynamically detects. The file location of the attached file in that field? There will only ever be one attachment in that field, as this will be a live pdf view of the drawing to which that drawing number was assigned
I am running a access db within a company with about 40 users. I have split the db for multiple users. The only way I have found to fix this problem is to ask the user to close it and reopen it but this is just a quick fix.
Is this cause by our Microsoft servers or is it cause by access. Any help would be great :D
Here is the complet error msg
Could not update; currently locked by user "Admin" on machine 'XXXXXX'
please note that the user is not logged on as "Admin" but as normally user without admin rights.
We have an old computer that is going to be used as a simple signin and out book for volunteers. We want to restrict people on that computer from doing anything else
I have designed the form, and it is nice and evil in that it doesn't allow you to close it (cancel = true in the forms unload event) or even quit access without killing the process manually with the old ctrl-alt-del (or ctrl-shift-esc) it starts on startup and I have disabled the windows key (using XP so I had to add a binary value to the registry manually)
The problem is they can still alt-tab out of there (despite a NoWinKeys registry key that was supposed to stop that), and they can still change the main access window's size and access the start menu.
The network and local profile is such that they can't do a whole lot if they do get past the form, but there should be a way to stop them from leaving... some sort of API that will regain the focus, then I could just check that the application had the focus every second, and pretty much render the computer un-usable
Everyone know this error? the database has been placed in state by user "Admin"!
We are using a shared database in Access 2003 that is still in Access 2000 format. When more than one user has the database open (by using the vb.net), the following error message appears "The database has been placed in a state by user 'Admin' on machine XXXXX that prevents it from being opened or locked."
How to slove this error? please help! Urgent!
The access file has a lot of rows which do not show on the excel file. The added files in access either have a space before their names, an * before their names, or no name at all. I would attach the new access file but it does not show up on my windows 7 list of files on my computer. It only shows up as a new file on my access program.
Good morning! I'm building a database for use by four technicians in a call-center type operation. The call records are purely transactional in nature -- once the call has been logged, the record is closed. If the customer calls again, a new record is opened.
The supervisor doesn't want the techs to be able to go back and edit a record once it's entered -- the records are for quality-control purposes and he doesn't want them gaming the system by going back and changing things after the initial call is logged (let's not discuss the issue of employee psychology, motivation, Office Space, etc.). So I'm trying to figure out how to do that; they all have wheel mice, and I can currently see all the records as I scroll back and forward with my mouse wheel, so I'm assuming they'll be able to, as well.
I created a database for one company. So, this database needs to support multiple users environment. One of the users has problem opening the database. Sometime he can open it. …. sometime he has an error message “Could not lock file”. What’s wrong with the database? (I gave him permission to “Read”, “Write” and “Read & Execute”) Thanks in advance for all your answers.
I am opening an excel file from access and changing the formatting from "dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm" to number with 15 decimal places. Then I am linking the file to the database and subsequently doing a lookup on the date time on the access form against this table. The excel file when formatted from vba in access shows the wrong number
datetime = 03/05/2013 11:26 database number = 41397.4763888889 Excel file number = 41398.4763888889 (which would equal 04/05/13 11:26)
now if I do it manually then I get 41397.4763888889 or if the macro is in excel I still get 41397.4763888889.Also I have tested the code with manually editing the excel file and this works fine.
Code: Private Sub Command288_Click() Dim s As String Dim t As Integer Dim ws As Worksheet s = LaunchCD(Me) MsgBox (s)
[code]....
also this brings up a form and then I select the field required for the lookup and with the button is pressed the rest of the code runs as follows.
Code: Private Sub LoadData_Click() Dim w As String w = Forms![frmList1]![Combo0] w = "[" & w & "]" Dim dtA As String
Hi all, We are changing domains and are doing alot of bouncing around with passwords and such. Now all my users who are not in admins can not open our Db. We get a message 'Could not lock file'. Any ideas? thanks
