General :: Locking Record File Types?

Aug 21, 2014

I have inherited a number of 2007 Access databases that have a PDF (Adobe Acrobat Document) as the file type for the locking record.

These databases seem significantly slower, and have more frequent "Not Responding" periods on the network - especially when compared to those with a standard ldb file type locking record.

What determines the file type for a locking record?

Can the Adobe locking record be changed to a ldb? and How?

General :: Create A Spec File Or Set Field Data Types

Jan 26, 2014

Looking for a way to use transfertext to make a table and create a spec file from csv files I am importing. I want all fields in the table to be shorttext.

Otherwise I need another way to bring the files into a table.

I have a generic spec to use that brings in any data as text.

Created the spec from a delimited file with 255 text fields... Field001, Field002, etc.

However the field names need to be changed. My field names are in the first row of a table. I will need to read each fields data in the first row and rename the field.

General :: Custom Message For When Record Locking Is Set?

My database has been set with the 'All records' locking option set to prevent two or more people editing files at once. This is working fine but I wondered if there is a way to make a more personal message appear instead of the default Access one, just to maintain a uniform look.

Forms :: (Upload File) Button Stopped Showing All File Types

Oct 7, 2013

I recently upgraded a DB from 2003 to 2013 and ran into the following problem.

I have a button that opens a file dialog box and allows the user to upload a file to a predetermined location (and store the address as a hyperlink). I borrowed this code from someone else on here and modified it slightly.

In any case, the button still works, but now when it opens it doesn't have an option for "All files" under file types. So I can upload MS Office files, text files, etc., but not PDF files which are by far the most common types my users upload.

Private Sub Command35_Click()
Dim dd As Integer
Dim fileDump As FileDialog
Set fileDump = Application.FileDialog(msoFileDialogOpen)
dd = fileDump.Show
Dim Yourroute As String
Dim yourrouteName
Yourroute = fileDump.SelectedItems(1)
yourrouteName = StrReverse(Yourroute)
yourrouteName = StrReverse(Mid(yourrouteName, 1, InStr(yourrouteName, "") - 1))
FileCopy Yourroute, "us170fp00dataWBO_Tool_RoomDrawings" & yourrouteName
Me.Drawing_Link = yourrouteName & " # us170fp00dataWBO_Tool_RoomDrawings" & yourrouteName
End Sub

Opening Other File Types From Within Access

Nov 16, 2004

I have a database application that I have to get to display some external PDF files.

I thought that I would create a command buttone and use that to open the files, but that doesn't want to work. Can anyone provide some thoughts on how to open a Word document or PDF file from within an access form? I only need to display it and then close the file so it doesn't have to be anything fancy.

Locking Down An .mdb File

Feb 8, 2006

I have to send an access application out to some people who need to preview it's functionality. What is the best way for me to send this .mdb file to them so they can use it (tables, forms, queries, macros and functions) but still keep them from opeing up the objects and viewing the code behind them? Is there a way of sending the .mdb file out so that objects cannot be seen in design mode and the objects cannot be viewed other than through the flow of the application? As you might have already guessed, I am new at securing an .mdb file for outside use. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Locking A Database File

Does anyone know how to lock a database so it can be accessed by only one person at a time? We have several users using a 'local' copy of the same database and frequently synchronizing with a network copy. We want to avoid a situation where more than one person is trying to synchronize with the master. Please advise - thanks!

I was thinking of adding an "Attachment" type field to my invoice table to store pdf's of scanned copies of the delivery notes relating to the invoice. How this will affect the performance of the database? Will adding this field greatly increase the size of the database and slow the whole database down?

General :: Export Individual Record To Its Own Text File

I am working on a website which has over 1000 pages that has the same code, but only a link that is different on each page. So, I thought that I will create a database and work my way from there. I was able to work the code and combine everything. Now would it be possible to export individual record from a query to a file with .html extension? If not, .txt will work as well. However, I want to have another field that would have the file names and the file is saved under that name.The query name is "Code Query" and the field name is "Final Code".

General :: Modules Not Appearing As Object Types In Navigation Pane

Apr 19, 2013

I am now working on this new database. I would like to make a calculation so that I could derive a value called eGFR from a patient's serum creatinine. This is a test of kidney function.I am having the following problems.

a. Modules are not appearing in the Navigation Pane of the Access 2007. When I press 'Object Types' in the Navigation Pane I get all object types such as tables, queries, forms, reports, macros but not modules. I know there are modules as I have written lots of vba code.

b. I have written the following code within this Function. The following is the code.

Public Function eGFR(creatinine, Gender, Age) As Single
If IsNull(Age) Or IsNull(creatinine) Then
eGFR = 0
Else

[code]....

This code is working fine in another database, however when I try to upload a query in the current database that has this function in one of the fields, I get an error saying the the function eGFR does not exit.

I have inserted the function into one of the modules that I have managed to enter.

Do I need to deposit the code elsewhere? How do I access Modules from the Navigation Pane?

Locking Record

Dec 19, 2006

Had a good look at previous posts but couldn't find exactly what I am after.
Having entered a record I don't want users to go back and edit/amend the input. I can see how to lock and unlock records but controlling this wilt say a checkbox also means any user can 'uncheck' and edit. Is there a method to restrict who can unlock ('uncheck') and edit a record, other than using Access Security permissions.
Thanks

Locking A Record Via Button

Mar 24, 2006

Hi all,

I have created a form using Access 2003 which users have to enter data into.

What I want is a button on the form which will display "lock record". When the user clicks this it will lock the record so that another user can’t accidentally change the field values. If they do want to change the field values the will have to press another button displaying “unlock form”

Is this possible and how?

Cheers

Record Locking Problem

Jan 28, 2007

Hi all,

I have a split database, with identical front end databases that have tables linked to the back end database. All forms are all located in the client databases.

Both databases are set to "no locks" (I believe this is referred to as "optimistic" record locking?) and are set to "shared" open mode.

However 2 seperate users cannot open the main form, even when opening different records - it comes up with the record locking error message.

Question - The form they open is filtered to show only one record (as selected on opening the form) - will this lock the whole table or just the one record it is looking at?

I'm not sure I've explained myself brilliantly here - I'm not up on all the lingo! If you don't understand please say & I'll try to explain better.

Record Locking Error

Feb 14, 2006

:confused: I created a data base in which 4 users enter information using a form. I have no record locking applied. When 2 or more of the users enter the form at the same time but have not entered any information they get a record lock error when one of them tries to enter data. The company wants to open this up to more people so I need to stop this from happening. Any ideas? I'm using access 2003 and windows xp.

Is there a way to assign a new record upon opening the form rather than waiting for data to be entered? I think this would be my last resort because it could create alot of blank records. All help is appreciated.

Thanks
John:confused:

General :: Records Locking - Won't Allow Updates

Nov 8, 2013

Using 2010 32 bit on win 7.I've been having an issue recently with forms not allowing changes to existing records or adding new records. These have previously worked for years and I haven't done any design changes in 12 months.

Some forms are base on queries that are based on single linked tables and some on joined queries but all have unique identifiers with enforced integrity.I noticed that changing the Record Source in the form from 'Dynaset' to 'Dynaset (Inconsistent Updates)' resolves the issue. But I'm stumped to what's causing this to happen in the first place.
