General :: MSysObjects And / Path To Linked Tables

Dec 11, 2013

Due to software licensing restrictions, my (Access 2007) development pc is NOT (may not be) connected to the network. The user pc's are all connected to the network. The network pc's only gets Access 2007 Runtime. The Front-end accde will be located at C:mydbFE heFE.accde on each user's pc.The Back-end will be located at X:mydbBE heBE.accdb (network share).

Currently (during development) the Front-end and Back-end is at C:mydbDEVFE and C:mydbDEVBE respectively - on my development pc, and the linked tables are pointing to C:mydebDEVBE.Now that I'm ready to distribute the database to the user pc's, I obviously need the Front-end's Linked Tables to point to X:mydbBE heBE.accdb

Where does Access2007 store the path to the Linked-Tables ? Is there a way I can change this path manually before making the accde ?I noticed that the path to the linked tables appear in the (hidden) MSysObjects table, but I do not want to mess with it until I know what the solution is.

Linked Tables Path

Jan 22, 2007

Hey guys,

Is there a way to update the path of a linked table manually? The network drive on my computer is mapped to the letter V: but on other users this could be different. How can I set the location so that it just searches for the name of the server (ie. //ServerName/db1.mdb) instead of a hard path?

General :: Forms And Queries In One ACCDB File - Path Setting To Linked Table File

Oct 5, 2014

I've got the forms and queries in one .accdb file and my tables in a separate .accdb file. The forms file links to the tables in the tables file. The tables file resides in a folder called simply enough C:acc_tables and thats where i browsed to (obviously) when i set up the linkage.

One of the users does not wish (for whatever goddamn reason) to create a C:acc_tables file to stick the tables file in , and wants the tables file in some other folder.. Unfortunately this user does not have the skills to delete the existing links and re-link to the tables file after putting it in the folder he wants.

Where in the file that holds the forms and and queries do i find the path setting to the tables linked file? Can it be changed without deleting links and then re-linking?

General :: Invalid Path To Tables

Jan 20, 2014

My issue is an existing database in ms Access 2007, it runs great on the local computer, but now we are trying to share the database with other computers in the office across the network. We get an error when trying to open the database from any machine over the network

windows 7 home premium 64bit is hosting the database, trying to access the database across the network from windows 7 ultimate 32bit. I have mapped a drive to the shared folder of the database and added the network location to the trusted locations, I then placed a shortcut on the desktop to the database files, but I get an error that access can't find the tables, showing the correct path to the tables. "z:databaselah.mdb" What am I missing?I can open access and then open the tables from within access in table view, but in form view I get a blank page.

Tables :: ODBC Link In MSysObjects

May 28, 2015

I have big problem with connection between ODBC and Access 2007. Everything is linked correctly but I have problem with separator in decimal field. In my country this separator is "," not ".". I found information about connection in MSysObjects.connect table that

Code:
...;BTD=F;BNF=F;BAM=IfAllSuccessful;NUM=NLS;DPM=F;MTS=T;...

I found somewhere that I need to change NUM value from NLS (default) to MS. Do you know how to edit this value? For example Access 2007 see value "123.8" (so it is in my country "123,8" ) like "1238"

General :: Slow Queries On Objects - Possibly Old Object Refs In MSysObjects?

Oct 10, 2013

I have a db that is having some strange speed issues on some very basic queries. Objects that have a rowsource/recordsource with a SQL statment in particular are really slow to populate. Likewise on deactivate/activate the report query seems to reload. I've put breakpoints in every object event with no stops out of the ordinary, and nothing seems unusual.

While I know MSysObjects is a user read-only table, I came across some records that reference objects that no longer exist in the front-end. Is this table cumulative? Is there any way to purge the deprecated records? I tried to turn on then turn off autocorrect features hoping that would trigger it to repopulate, but no luck.

I'm thinking this may be the source of the issue. Perhaps if it is looking for an object that it can not find (especially the ~sq_ unsaved queries) then it's looking to the wrong place on a lostfocus/activate/deactivate or similar event.

Some history on this file, it has been through many versions of Access starting with 2003, which I think is part of the issue as well. Shy of looping every object and replicating the read-write properties, I'm not sure where else to go with this.

Linked Table Path

I need to ascertain the current link path for my back end DB tables.
Using Application.CurrentDB.Name returns the current MDB file - but I need the DB file for the linked tables? Any ideas please?

THanks in advance.

General :: Add Records To Many Linked Tables While Seeing Them All

Jan 17, 2013

I'm new to Access2007. I created 5 tables all related to each other in series with one-to-many joins (type 2 and all enforcements on).So an Id in table 1 can show up several times in table 2, and the same is true from tables 2 to 3, 3 to 4 and 4 to 5.I want to enter new records in such way that I can see all tables at once. I tried to do that with a query, but I can only modify records, not add new ones.I have no problem adding records to individual tables but have not figured out how to do it to this All-tables query.

Linked Image Path Change Doesn't Work?

Mar 18, 2008

Hello. I've searched and read a few threads concerning image controls on forms and haven't been able to find a solution to my problem (yet). Anyway, I have a form with two image controls (imgOK1 & imgOK2). The previous and current setting of the "Picture" property for both images is set to "C:MOMGraphicsfilename.bmp". The location of my images has changed and will change for each user which is "C:Documents and Settingsuser.nameMOMGraphicsfilename.bmp". I'm using the following code to set the .Picture property on form load:

Dim ImgPath
ImgPath = "C:Documents and Settings" & Environ("username") & "My DocumentsMOMGraphics"
Me.imgOK1.Picture = ImgPath & "imgButton-OK1_25%.bmp"
Me.imgOK2.Picture = ImgPath & "imgButton-OK2_25%.bmp"

When the form is opened, an error stating that the image located at "C:MOMGraphicsfilename.bmp" cannot be found; once for each image control. Then the form loads and .Picture properties appear to be set correctly as they are displayed fine. I've tried to clear the .Picture properties for both image controls using the properties editor but the original path returns as soon as the property loses focus. Is there a way to programatically set this property and make it stick so the errors are not displayed?

Path To Linked Images Breaks When Close Database

Jan 16, 2015

I have a report in Access 2010. The report contains some images in the main report area and in sub reports. I have The queries that feed the report and subreport contains the name of the pictures that are loaded into its image controls. I added the following code to my form in order to control what image is displayed for each record. Id like the form to work even if the database is moved as long as the subfolder and photos are moved along with it (thus using relative path).

Code:
Private Sub Report_(Current)
Dim ImagePath As String
Dim ImagePathInt As String
Dim ImagePathPlanV As String

[code]...

The problem seems to be that the routine doesn't seem to initially recognize the path. I have a blank photo in the folder containing all the images called NO PHOTO.jpg. If I open the report in design view and browse to this image in the picture parameter of any one of the image controls and run the report, then everything works perfectly even if I close and reopen the report. The report shows the right pictures even in the subreports.

The problem is when I close the database and reopen it, then the link is lost again, forcing me to do the process of browsing for the NO PHOTO image again. I already try to do an open form procedure to automatically reset the picture property, but although it resets the picture to the picture I set (I verify this by setting a different picture instead of the NO PHOTO) it does not make things work correctly as it does when I manually browse for it in design view. I also try to run the code above under the Report (Open) instead of the Report (Current) but that didn't work either.

General :: ODBC Linked Tables Losses Connection

Jun 13, 2012

Our master database has linked tables with ODBC to our SQL database and linked tables to another access database. On the computer i'm running this from a System DSN data source has been created to connect to our SQL database.

The problem I'm having is when I run Macros to kick off Queries, there seems to be some kind of timeout issue and its not consistant. Sometimes in Access after a hour or two, the ODBC links somehow just fails. I have to go up to the menu and go to 'Get External Data' and then 'Link Tables' and relink the ODBC DSN connection. I make sure to hit save password and the end but that doesn't seem to do much. This also happens sometimes when I close and reopen the database.

But it seems erratic, sometimes it can stay up for hours but sometimes just a few mins. Sometimes I can close the Access database and reopen without losing connection. Being so erratic, this makes it very hard for me to run batch files nightly to kick off Macros. Is there some kind of inactivty timer for DSNs? Or maybe with the SQL database itself? Or is the way i'm restablishing the ODBC connection wrong ?

General :: Oracle Linked Tables Decimal Error

Sep 18, 2014

I have made a program in Access with linked tables from oracle (ODBC).

In access when I'm going to use that tables or when I see the records on the table all the numbers with decimals shows without separators (,).

99,99 looks like 9999.

This is a big problem because I'm working with prices.

I tried to change the NSL_Language in Regedit to:

AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1
from:
SPANISH_SPAIN.WE8MSWIN1252

AND it works ONLY in my computer, when I try to fix it and change the language doesn't work, and i don't know why.

PD: In addition, in the other PC's, some characters seems wrong like "" that looks like a square.

Linked Table Manager File Path View Truncation Problem

Sep 30, 2005

How do you get to see the entire file path in Access Linked Table Manager of linked tables that are located in a folder with a long path? The problem is that you can only view the first 64 or so characters of the table’s path. This is a real problem when these linked tables need to be updated and you don't know where it’s stored.

General :: Linked Pivot Tables Prevent Updates To Database

I have built a database and within it my queries I use for reporting make tables in a separate database. This allows me to work in my data base and update info as needed. My problem is that my make table queries wont run if anyone has one of the report pivot tables open. I have added macros to all the Excel files that pull from the reporting DB but I still have several times when I cannot update because someone is using the pivot table, Is there a way to allow me to update the report DB's while the pivot tables are open? I have tried using manual refresh methods and disabling auto update on open but the result is the same.

Relinking Multiple Linked Tables That Are Linked To Different Databases

Feb 2, 2012

I have a database with a number of linked tables that are linked to tables in different databases (not a back-end).for example, I have table1 that is linked to table1 in K:databasedb1.mdb.table2 linked to table2 in S:datadata.mdb.and so on...

However, recently we have moved all our databases to a new location.

K:databasedb1.mdb is now residing in O:masterdatabase
and S:datadata.mdb is now residing in O:masterdata
and so on...

I'm now in charge of relinking all those tables to point to the new location.I would do this in linked table manager one by one but we have 100s of tables linked to multiple different databases in different location.is there a way to create a VBA code that will automatically do this re-linking process?

so,
1. find unlinkable tables
2. search its new location under O:master
3. re-link it to the new location

Database names and tables names have not been changed. Just the location of databases.

General :: Split Database With Not Valid Path

Nov 6, 2013

I am attempting to split an Access 2007 database. My company has two locations. From my location we are remote connecting into the server. While down there they are connecting directly. When I split the database, people in my location can use it fine. When people down there use it, they get a not valid path error.

This is because the network drives are mapped differently. I have been reading that the solution is to use the UNC for the back end file path.

I have it all working so once its dragged on it works out if its a word doc, opens a hidden instance of word which then resaves it with a coded password.

The problem comes when change it so the user enters the password to protect it, when they enter a password or click on the drag box it doesn't allow the drag. it seems once they have entered the record the drag option is not available anymore.

I wondered if I could have a browse button, which when pressed brought up the browse window to allow you to locate the image (using the standard windows browser). Then when you clicked ok, it writes the filename into the correct field on the form.
