General :: Main Form With Two Lists Boxes - Show / Hide Datasheet Columns In A Subform
Aug 24, 2012
I've got a main form with two lists boxes. I want to show the visible columns in my subform (which is a datasheet) in one listbox and show the hidden columns in the other. Also I want to allow the user to hide / show columns using right or left arrow buttons between the list boxes. My subform is bound to a stored procedure using ADO.
I'm currently building a database in Access 2013. I've used Access many years ago, and not really in anger since maybe 2003, so I've been re-learning quite a lot. Here's an overview of my scenario, and issue:
The main purpose of my database is to allow engineers to log various bits of information when building, servicing and testing manufactured products for offshore exploration. Because some of the engineering team aren't so great with data entry etc, I've decided that, rather than deleting data, I'm going to use a 'deleted' flag: user clicks what he considers to be a delete button, but in reality an update query will simply update the flag and, because the form is built on a query which includes a 'where deleted = 0' filter, it'll no longer be shown. This will allow us more control over the data and will also allow me to check that everything is running okay.
My main forms include a number of subforms, including one which includes a second tier of nested form: Pin Maps for (electrical) Connectors.
What I need to achieve is fairly straightforward: as the user navigates around the form, I'd like a 'delete' button which is specific to that subform to become visible and for any other 'delete' buttons to become hidden. Once tested, the buttons would be 'stacked' in the same position at the top of the main form, so the user just thinks they're deleting the relevant record in the sub, or main, form.
The situation is i have two forms, looking at the same table, but the main table shows more records, I would like to select a record in the datasheet subform and have the main form flick through to the corresponding record.
I am trying to obtain totals from two columns in the list box into text boxes on the main form, but my third argument is not working as expected.The source of one of the tex boxes is:
I am displaying table records in access form Datasheet view. While business users accessing that form, they are hiding and rearranging some columns for their use. So it will be hard for other users to access. I just want to know any settings are avaible in MS Access or can we accomplish this using any events or macro or modules??
I would like to know if the following is possible: I have a table, I have a form based on that table (datasheet view) and I would like for certain columns to visible or not based on the input on a Combobox (list of countries) that is based on another form.
I have searched on the web and I found that the following:
On a button based on the main menu form:
Code: Private Sub Go_Click() Dim stDocName As String Dim stOpen As String stOpen = Me!cboDest stDocName = "Datasheet" DoCmd.OpenForm stDocName, , , , , , stOpen
and then on the event "on open" of the form Datasheet I have inserted the following:
Code: Private Sub Form_Open(Cancel As Integer) Select Case OpenArgs Case "USA" Forms![Overflow]![Tasks].Visible = True Forms![Overflow]![Constant Number (Min)].Visible = True
[Code] ....
I have done it as a test, but it appears that it does not work. It opens the forms, but it does not hide or show the columns based on the option, it brings all the columns.
I am pretty new to VBA and I am having the same problem of hiding and un-hiding columns on a datasheet of a split form. I am building a system that will be used in front of customer and therefore wish to hide columns that contain cost sensitive data. The same forms need to be able to show the Sales Rep the hidden columns simply by ticking a box. Basically a toggle on and off of hidden columns.
I have been playing around with the code below (which i found in another forum) to hide the Field called COO when I click the tick box called chkHIdeFields check box. This works on a Single form but not on a datasheet of a split form.
Private Sub chkHideFields_Click() ' Note: vbTrue = -1 If Me.chkHideFields = vbTrue Then Me.COO.Visible = True Else: Me.COO.Visible = False End If End Sub
I have been able to hide the column of my split form by using the ColumnHidden property of the On Load event just as a proof of concept that the ColumnHidden property actually works to hide a column, which it does. This is the code that im using to hide the column called COO.
Me.COO.ColumnHidden = True
However if I then set it to = False and then close and open the form, it doesn't unhide the column. the only way I can unhide the column is to do it from the Form view via the un-hide dialogue pop up box.
I have two issues here, the first one is getting the form to recognize when to hide and when to show the column of the datasheet on the split form and the second is to get the code to for the check box method.
Lastly once I get it working for 1 field I need to be able to define a list of 7 or 8 other fields all at the same time.
Hello everyone, I have a query that runs from the main form when the command button is clicked. It displays the results in datasheet view. I want the user to double click a specific record and jump to that specific record in the main form. How do I do this? Sorry, if this is a dumb question. Please help, my boss is breathing down my neck. :eek: The main form is called Contracts. Each record has a unique ID.
Currently I have a query where the criteria is dependent on the combo boxes on my form. I would like to add checkboxes to my form which determines which fields are shown or hidden. For example if I had a checkbox for address, selecting it on my form will show the address column in my query results.
I need to hide my subform on load or open of the main form but am experiencing some weird results. I have tried putting Me.SubForm.Form.Visible = False in both the on open and the on load of the main form and it works only if the tables on which the subform have records in them. If the tables for the subforms are empty I get an error 2467 telling me that "The expression you entered refers to an object that is closed or doesn't exist." I find this strange because from all I can find the subform loads first.
How can I hide the subform when the main form opens no matter what records exist or don't?
Hi, I have a problem I don't know how to solve it. I have a subform in datasheet view, linked to the main form. There is a running total on the main form based on a dsum on a field of the subform. When I delete a row on the subform datasheet, the main form calculation is not automatically updated. I had to create a "update" button to do the refresh. Is there a "on record delete" event available for a datasheet sub form? Thank you for any help.
I have a navigation tab with 6 sections, of the 6, 5 of them are self-made split view with a form view on top and datasheet on bottom and upon adding records through a command button on form view I would like the datasheets to update.
On other forms it would (I believe) update to the bottom of the datasheet, now on the ones I've been banging my head against it either replaces the top record or doesn't show up unless I switch tabs and switch back. From my searches I assume this is in need of a requery...
Hi everyone!! This is my first thread in this forum..Hope to get best from this site ..well i m facing a problem..i have a main form and a subform (which is in datasheet view) . Now i have a button called "close_form" in main form on whose click event i have writen this code :
Private Sub close_form_Click() On Error Resume Next DoCmd.DoMenuItem acFormBar, acEditMenu, acUndo, , acMenuVer70 Me.Controls.Item("fees sub").SetFocus DoCmd.DoMenuItem acFormBar, acEditMenu, acUndo, , acMenuVer70 DoCmd.Close End Sub
1. If i run this form directly from Access and there are no changes i do in the form and click this button then it gets hang after showing error "run time error 2046 ; the command or action undo is not available now " "press End or Debug or help"
2. As i have created a Custom menu, if i run this form from that menu then it does not show any error. But it runs fine for the first time but nothing happens on clicking this button the second time i open the same form ( in same session). What to do ?? Please help .. shikha
i have built an application , all i have is one main form and every action take place inside it. Before making it as .accde file for code protection, i want to hide table pane, navigation ribbon, the Main form Tab. i.e only Main form should open like a applicaiton and not inside access as a tab.
I have a subform that accounts and adds all the expenses for a certain project (for example, total is $27,000). I would like to know how to duplicate the final cost in the subform and show it on an unbound textbox of that linked main form (the unbound textbox in the main form shows $27,000 also).
My title is a little confusing, i have a form with a subform, what I want it to do is this say i have 10 records, 3 of which are missing any data in the subform... then when i show the form it only shows 7 records. This way all records have data in both the main form and the subform... is this possible?
I have an unbound mainform and an unbound subform(datasheet). The source of the subform is a query which is dynamic(I have many queries with diffrent columns). the subform source is change using a combo box selection. I have text boxes in my mainform..how do I get the data from subform to the text boxes of the mainform?
I am having an issue trying to show all records when I load my form. It loads correctly when I don't have a record source for the main form. However, the combobox filters will not work. My goal is to have users be able to use the datasheet, subdatasheet and combobox filters. I can get the form to work just fine when I link the Main form and subform, but when the form opens it is filtered on the first record. I have been successful with this approach when using other forms, but they didn't require a subdatasheet.
Is there anyway I can have the comboboxes to filter yet be able to show all records until the user selects filters? Is this possible?I finally got my Manager to agree to use a database instead of Excel files based on this form setup and I need to make as "user friendly" as possible (look and function like a spreadsheet) I attached some pics of the form along with the code for the filter.
I have a pretty simple form that includes subform. Subform's table is linked to main form's table with parent/child relation. Connecting fields are main table's ID field and corresponding field in child table. Subform is in datasheet view. This is pretty basic stuff so there should not be any problems, but every time I apply a quick filter in main form it causes data in subform become invisible. There is single row in subform, but all it's fields are empty.
I have a form (employee info) that requires the user to do a search to find the employee before then editing anything that needs to be edited.
I have a search box that will find the relevant record without any problem, however what I am looking to do is hide text boxes on the form and have them appear only once the search has found the matching record.
If no matching record is found, I would then like a message box that states 'No matching employee, would you like to add an employee' and when the user clicks OK, it then reveals the same hidden text boxes and sets focus to the first one of the bunch.
Now, I have used the 'me.textboxname.visible = True (or False) elsewhere, however, I am not sure how to trigger that after a search.
I assume I am looking at an If statement, but I am not sure how to construct it, hence turning to the experts.
Code: Private Sub txtEmployeeSearch_AfterUpdate() If txtEmployee = DLookup("EmployeeNumber", "tblEmployeeInfo") Then Me.txtboxname.Visible = True Me.txtboxname2.Visible = True DoCmd.GoToControl "txtboxname" Else MsgBox "Employee Not Found", vbYesNo <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< End If End Sub
I know that there is a massive gap where I have put <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< - but I am stumped as to what to put in there?
Morning all, I'm trying to hide a column of a datasheet in a subform I have... if I run the form and right click and hide the column, it doesen't save that the next time I load it (wasn't sure if it was suppose to, but after reading http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/a...2362201033.aspx it would appear so) I'm using SQL Server 2000, not 7 so I would think that problem shouldn't come up for me yet it is, I need to hide a couple columns from the user (mostly ID columns) while they are entering in data, anyone have any advice they could throw my way?
Form from Purchase order table Subform from serial table(Brand,Model,Type,Location,Serial) with serialtrans table(InOut,AQty,Comment) (SELECT tbl_Serial.*, tbl_SerialTrans.* FROM tbl_Serial LEFT JOIN tbl_SerialTrans ON tbl_Serial.SerialID = tbl_SerialTrans.SerialID
when i click on the datasheet row and delete the row it only delete the record from tbl_SerialTrans but record on tbl_Serial was not deleted
I have seen that in some sample db's rightclicking the mouse showed the menu with an option to check or uncheck the dataview option, unchecked the formview was applied, but when i 'just' import the subform, i cannot find somewhere the possibility to change from dataview to formview.
Maybe someone can help me with this, probably very simple(?), question?
