General :: Match Typed Text And Forward To That Record
Oct 20, 2013
I've got an access form, and all I want to do, is to be able to type a number into a text box, click a button and then for the record containing that number to be displayed (in that same form).
-And I dunno where to start.
I don't like using the navigation bar, although that is almost what I'm after. Also, search functions I've seen on here that use combo box lists to display results seem like too much for me, as each number typed into my search box will be unique.

I have a form based on a table called checkwriter. Right now it is comprised of multiple dropdowns that work great but now I need a textbox where the user can type in a few characters and have the form display the results which match the first few characters from the field "memo" from the checkwriter table. Im so a newbie to this and not sure whether I need 2 write a seperate query for this or write a simple procedure for that text box. Any help to get me started would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for an automation solution
currently I have a database for client progress and prescriptions. when the file is opened it is set for data entry so that a clean note form is opened. I have a button that pulls up past notes for their review.
it has been requested that there be a way to pull the last narative field forward to the new record for editing as a number of the features of the narative remain the same.
Currently the only way is for them to open the last seen note hightlight the field and past into the new note. to high level for some of them.
Need to make this an automated feature where they would just click on a button and the process would all occur behind the scean and the note would apper in the new note narative box.
I know that I could tell the form to not be for data entry but then they write over the last note. this needs to be a new record.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated

So i have made a query which filters the text you type in your text box on a form. This is working great, but then this morning I had some records that contain some blank fields. My query does not show those records even if they contain the same text that I would type in my search form. This is my expression in my query of one column:
Like [Forms]![searchform]![Qprojectomschrijving] & "*"

I am provided a spreadsheet that contains multiple rows of similar data; each row/record represents a different stage in the process of financial transactions (requisition, purchase order, & voucher payment). Each financial transaction has these three records, with the amounts in one of three columns (pre-encumbrance, encumbrance, and expense), depending on the process.
What I am really after is the fuller, more detailed description that is apparently only available for the two records I don't want to import into the database (which is tracking only expenses and not the other two stages of the process). There is apparently no way to cross-reference these multiple rows due to the way the original database was designed (and we apparently have no control over this).
After importing the spreadsheet into Access, I would like to match the partial text string (truncated description) to the full description in another record, and update the record with the truncated description to the full description. To make mattes more complicated, I will also have to match values in the "pre-enc" or "enc" field with the "exp" field across these three records to make sure the correct descriptions are being matched because the truncated description will match multiple distinct records with the longer description.

I am having difficulty getting the right record to carry forward into a modal subform to edit/update information. The Request_nmbr is an autonumber field. The client can have multiple requests. When I open my subform, I can scroll through the records, but when I launch the "update" button, I don't know how to carry forward the request_nmbr so that I'm updating the right record.
Here's my code:
Private Sub Btn_Exception_SubModal_Click()
DoCmd.OpenForm "Frm_Exception_UpdateModal", acNormal, , acFormAdd
Forms! [Frm_Exception_UpdateModal]![Request_nmbr].value = Me![Request_nmbr].value
Forms! [Frm_Exception_UpdateModal]![clientnmbr].value = Me![clientnmbr].value
End Sub

I'm trying to figure out a way to get my access database to auto-populate data into a field based on the information I type into the first record.
So what I'm looking to do is that when I type a name into the UserName Field it will automatically fill in the rest of the field with the same information.
To clarify I'm looking for a way so that when I type something into one record it will fill the rest of the field in with that same information.

I am a novice with Access and I would appreciate any help with two issues:
1. I am trying to get a value to forward to the next record in a different field so that I may keep a running total. For example:
Record 1. A field named Today is added to a field named Forward to get a total in a field named Total.
Record 2. I would like to get the value from record 1 in the Total field to carry forward to the the field named Forward in record 2.
The form looks something like this:
Today: 10:00
Forward: 2:00
Total: 12:00
I would like to get the value of 12:00 in record 1 carried forward to the Forward field of reocrd 2 so that the Forward field in record 2 would read 12:00.
2. I also need to add times together arithmatically but the problem I have is that when the total exceeds 24:00 hours it shows only the amount that exceeds 24 hours. For example, if I add 22:00 to 5:00 the result is 3:00 not 27:00. I need to show 27:00 as the total.
Any help with these two items would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks,
uspilot

I have got a combo box with a product code in it, and depending on which code is selected I want the data to come from one of two different tables. Is there any way I can do something like a match formula in Excel to see if the stock code is contained in a table?

There are 2 tables:
Table 1 has National Insurance Number, first name, last name, phone no, address.
Table 2: has National Insurance Number and email address.
Table 1 is the master table where it will link to table 2 containing the email addresses of the individuals.
However, there will be a lot of email addresses in table 2 which do not relate to any record in table 1 because I do not have the individual in my database yet.
BUT I want to keep their email address because in the future this person may enlist in my imaginary business and therefore - if they do I would have their email address!
1. Is this possible in Access?
In Excel, it would be the case of a simple vlookup from the email address field into another sheet containing the National Insurance Number and email address.
2. Would it be possible to establish a one-one relationship while enforcing referential integrity?
3. Is there a way I can establish a lookup which can be built into table 1 which can lookup the email address of a person in table 2, matching on National Insurance Numbers?
So in the future if new data is input into table 1 or 2 which results in a match of National Insurance ID numbers, the outcome would mean an email address is now paired to the corresponding individual it belongs to.

I am using access 2010. I have "classlevel" table with 2 columns-Class and Value1 .Value1 column has numeric values that i ll input from webpage (webpage to ms access connectivity).
I want to sum the values of column "Value1" and i have another table-"Volume" which has 2 columns "VolumeLevel" and "Value2". So i want to match the sum that i calculated from first table-"ClassLevel" with the "value2" column in "Volume" table and get the corresponding "volumelevel" column value from that table and there is a third table that will get this volumelevel value.
There is no common column to join these tables.
Classlevel-
Class Value1
Class 0 3000
Class 1 2000
Class 2 300
Class 3 400
Class 4 500
Volume-
Volumnlevel Value2
Vo 0
V1 5000
V2 10000
V3 30000
....upto V10
Answer that i am looking for is V1 as sum=6200 lies between 5000 and 10000 so its V1.
Table 3-
Volume-
V1

This is probably dead simple, but I am brain dead today.
I have two tables:
Requests with fields (ID, Cust, Amount, Ref, Date)
and
Actuals with fiels (ID, Cust, Amount, Ref, Date)
Now,
if Requests.Ref is null, then update Requests.Ref = Actuals.Ref and Requests.Date = Actuals.Date if and only if
there is only one record in Requests and only one record in Actuals where Requests.Cust = Actuals.Cust and Requests.Amount = Actuals.Amount.
Currently, I am just doing an inner join between the two tables, but if there are two requests with a given cust/Amount, but only one Actual, then both Requests will get the same Actual Ref and Date.
So how do I structure this SQL?
Thanks,
David

I am working on a website which has over 1000 pages that has the same code, but only a link that is different on each page. So, I thought that I will create a database and work my way from there. I was able to work the code and combine everything. Now would it be possible to export individual record from a query to a file with .html extension? If not, .txt will work as well. However, I want to have another field that would have the file names and the file is saved under that name. The query name is "Code Query" and the field name is "Final Code".

there are certain txt boxes that once filled out, will filter a subform of a table of 1000's of records to give them a number to use on the form around 200 of the records have a depot in the "depot" field on the table, when they input a depot, it filters to them 200 fine if a depot is there,
what i want is, when they input the depot, if its there, filter it, if its not, to do nothing, as they could still get a unique number if the depot isnt in the list what happens now is, if the depot isnt in the list, it displays no records
Field : Fld_Depot
Table : Tbl_Agreement_Summary
Show : False
Criteria : Like "*" & SearchForText([Forms]![Frm_New_Accounts]![Fld_Depot]) & "*"
Or : Is Null

I am trying to automate a data match I've been doing in Excel into Access.
Basically, I have 2 spreadsheets:
1. First has a "Start Date" for each user
2. Second spreadhsheet is a lookup table with 2 fields: Week Start Date and Week #. In other words, Dec 30 - Week 1, Jan 6 - Week 2, Jan 13-Week3, etc
For a given date in the first spreadsheet (e.g. Jan 10th), I am trying to figure out which week this falls into.
In Excel I use this formula where Column A stores the week start dates in the lookup table spreadhseet and Column B stores the Week#, with F4 being the "Start Date" in my first spreadsheet.
=INDEX('Enrollment Week'!$B$1:$B$53,MATCH(F4,'Enrollment Week'!$A$1:$A$53,1))
Is there a way to do this in Access?

I have a form that I need to add a new record using embedded SQL rather than just binding the form and using an automatic new record. My form will display the needed random number in a textbox and that needs to be my new record number. So I need first to check to see if that number already exists as a record number then add it if it does not and either way insert or update a set of additional fields. Something like:
DoCmd.RunSQL "SELECT * FROM tblExceptions WHERE ReconciliationID = " & Me.txtReconciliationID
Psuedocode: IF Record Exists UPDATE Field1 and FIELD2
Else Create record and insert VALUES into Field1 and FIELD2
End If

Using sql or access query I would like to create an expression that aggregates the first field and I would like to see all records grouped by the relationship with another field. Let me show an example.
My query shows:
field1 field2
apple a
apple b
banana a
carrot a
carrot b
dog b
elephant b
I would like my query to now display a third field and group field :
field1 field3
apple both
banana a
carrot both
dog b
elephant b

I would likw for my first and last name fields width to match the length of the name. So if the last name is Smith then the field width will resize itself to fit perfect fit the name. Then if I have a last name of Connor then it will grow to fit it perfect. I dont need this but it will be nice so everything looks a bit nicer an cleaner. I thought the following would have worked:
Code : Me.Lastname.width = Len(Me.Lastname]

G'day. I've been browsing the forum trying to find a solution to a problem, without much luck, and am hoping that someone might be kind enough to help me more directly.
I'm a biologist and a newbie to access: with the distinction of being completely clueless about VBA. Nonetheless, I have been tasked with creating a database for storing data obtained from biological surveys of juvenile salmon and harvest/spawner surveys of adult salmon.
The bones of the db are in place and functional. The problem I have is streamlining the data entry process to minimise keystrokes/mouse clicks.
I have a subform for entering fish records with attributes such as 'species_name', 'fork_length', 'count', 'presence of tags, etc. The idea is that fish can be entered as individuals (count=1) or groups (count>1) with attribute data at the appropriate level (eg, fork lengths only entered for individuals. We typically measure the fork lengths of the first 20 individuals of each species and then tally the remainder).
One problem I face is that fish often occur in schools, and it becomes quite tiresome to click and select the same species_name combo box value for each record when entering multiple individuals of fish of the same species.
What I would like to do is set the default value for that combo box (on the fish subform) to match the value entered for the previous record.
I suspect that you could use the after update trigger to execute some code to change the default value each time something is entered manually into the combo box. Unfortunately, I know nothing about how to write the appropriate code.
Can anyone offer me some guidance?
Thanks in anticipation.
Sincerely,
Craig Dolphin

I am trying to match if a user has already started a record using the date and username. I have written the following code but I keep getting a error 94 about null. I know its an issue involving the date part. why this isn't working.
Code:
DLookup("TimeSheetID", "TimeSheet", "EmployeeID=" & Nz(Me.ListEmploy.Value) & " AND TimeSheetDate=#" & Date2 & "#")))
The full code
Code:
Dim Date2 As Date
Date2 = Date
If (Not IsNull(DLookup("TimeSheetID", "TimeSheet", "EmployeeID=" & Nz(Me.ListEmploy.Value) & " AND TimeSheetDate=#" & Date2 & "#"))) Then
lngEmployeeID = DLookup("TimeSheetID", "TimeSheet", "EmployeeID=" & Nz(Me.ListEmploy.Value) & " AND TimeSheetDate=#" & Date2 & "#")
DoCmd.OpenForm "frmTimeSheetMain", , , "TimeSheetID=" & Nz(lngEmployeeID), , , "NoTimeSheetID"

I'm having trouble with a Form and getting a text box entry box (Date entry) default to the date entered on the last record, which is linked to a table.
The only way I can get it to work is to type the date into the Text Box's Default property, for example, #11/13/13".
How to get the correct syntax or code into the Default property of the Text Box to make this work? I only want the entry to change versus the previous record/entry if the User changes / enters a new date.
