General :: Merge Cells Or Making Subgroups

I'm trying to enter data in an access datasheet view in sharepoint. I need to merge cells in the same Column but have the cells to the right in the other columns retain linked to that merged column. Any way to do this?

I have table1:
Name, Date, Points
Peter, 1.8.2005, 100
________2.8.2005, 200
Paul, 1.8.2005, 100
________4.8.2005, 300
etc. and I need to fill the blanks with Peter, Peter... , Paul, Paul, ... etc. so, that I can later take it as a group ID and work with the data.
Preferably with SELECT query, but insert or update is also possible.

I saw a demo that the user could copy and paste a JPG format file physically to ACCESS, and then something happened, and ACCESS could read the JPG length and width size (e.g. 1.3 meter length and 1.15 meter width) into 2 individual ACCESS cells which is acted the same as user input to that 2 clells.

Sometimes extensive updates have to be made to a table using an update query or loop through a record set.
In order to be able to undo changes in case of a mistake I am thinking about the following procedure:
In code:
1 - Make a copy of the table
2 - Make the changes in the original
3 - Check if updates are correct and if so: delete the copy and if not:
delete the default table and rename the copy so it will be the original.
Is that common practice or not?

If you make your database into a executable file to package it, does the other person you are sending it to have to have or own Access to use it. I was under the impression that I could create a database, package it as its own program and give it to someone that does not have access and it would still work? If not, how would I do such a thing.

I am attempting to set up a saved import procedure in an Access database that will be run programmatically using docmd.RunSavedImportExport. The source document is an Excel file.My goal is to trap any import errors caused by inconsistencies in the source data. I'd also like to provide the user with some small amount of feedback on what is causing these errors.
My initial thought was to make use of the "File_ImportErrors" table that is generated following an unsuccessful import. *Not once* has this import procedure consistently generated an error table - sometimes the table is created, sometimes it isn't.
I have tried changing the file format of the import file to comma- and tab-delimited files, respectively. Both of these formats do consistently generate an error table, however none of the error values in the table are accurate - it reports a slew of type conversion errors for fields that are completely consistent and unproblematic, whilst completely overlooking conspicuous errors from text strings in date fields.
I have tried the same import, both procedurally and manually, using all available Excel and text-delimited formats, with the same respective results.I notice that nearly every thread on AWF pertaining to error tables discusses how to delete them, rather than make effective use of them. I suspect this is perhaps why?

I have a back-end db in access 2010, linked to a set of sharepoint tables on office365.
I want to make a completely unlinked copy of the db to store a "snapshot" of the data on a fixed date.
I have tried "save as" using the "Save as Local Database" option, but for some reason, it still saves as linked tables.
How to go about it?

I have integrated word merge in my database to generate final reports etc.
how can i merge an image that is attached to a record to word?
Basically i create a new case and input all pertinate information for that specific case and in that case I add an image of the subject, google maps for the residence and other images such as facebook screenshots etc.. and what i want to do is when I merge the case with word to also have a page in word to include this images.

To start, I am going to generalize to a database of Cows. the fields are:
Name (enforced unique/"Primary Key" in access language?),
size,
color,
age.
The goal is to have a form with check boxes for the fields that the user selects. Scenario is one cow buyer cares about size, while another may care about color and be curious on age. So rather than guessing at what reports the users will want, have a form that allows them to select the fields they want then print a report. An intermediate step would be a query to filter the data.
See the picture below ....
Also, from my perspective, this is the basis of the best code i would write; if someone wanted to add a column for cow gender you wouldnt have to change all your forms/queries/reports:
Global import table.Cows
Form 2 in picture (form with check boxes):
for ( i=0, i<width(Cows), i++)
form.create.checkbox cb.append(i)
cb.append(i).label(Cows[i])
Then create the report based on cb0, cb1, cb2, etc. queries

At the moment am using, DoCmd.OpenForm "Form1", which works fine, but am confused in brining the form 1 only to be shown at the first most time.

I have started working on an existing MS access application (Front-end & Back-end) built with VBA. The frontend linked to a back-end access database which contains only tables. Because of the nature of the work involving vehicles. Each user has their own copy of identical databases with their individual data stored in backend.
Right now we just copy each back-end database via ftp and store it as usr_backenddb_date.accdb Back end databases contain around 16 tables with most of them containing a autonumber field as a primary key. Further tables are connected with each other referencing the primary key as a foreign key .
I would like ideally create a function in vba that lets me select the database and merge all the data from that database to a identical central database. For the initial part, I am thinking of combining each individual table in each database and changing the autonumber field with SQL with possibly trying to cascade the change so the refrences remain intact.
Constant Access to one back end db via internet (or server) is not really possible as the users are able to connect to internet (network) only few times a day. There are over 100 backends (for each vehicle) with over 1000 records in each.

I have created a rather large data entry form for one of our departments which will be used to run a mail merge document. The merge is run off of a query of the form, rather than the tables themselves...I think that is what I've read is the right thing to do?
Anyways, most of it is working great so far but I've run into an issue where a few of the form fields are combo boxes. In access and in the query the data looks correct, but when you look at it in word (in edit recipient list) and after the merge, it will have a file path name instead.
So a combo box that has "Medical Plans and Visual Plans" in that field in the query, comes over saying "c:Users
ameAppData
Ex: New Hires are provided information about Medical Plans and Visual Plans.
Ex: New Hires are provided information about MeC:UsersbrooksAppData
It always shows the first two letters before putting the filepath name in there.
I have tried doing it multiple ways...a lookup to another table, lookup right in the field itself....get the same results.

I have two databases (files). Each file has a format like the one below.
File 1:
chr start end
chr1 1000 2000
chr2 3000 4000
File 2:
chr start end
chr1 1500 3000
chr2 3750 4000
I want to be able to merge the two records together if the field chr matches between the two files plus if there is an overlap between the start number and end number from each file. For instance the first record from each file would match because the range from 1000 to 2000 of file 1 has numbers consisting of 500 numbers (1500-2000) that are also present and overlap in file 2 (1500-3000). I possibly cannot use < or > since the ranges from each file will vary to different degrees. Perhaps there is a between function that might work...

I currently have the following setup for my database which is working as desired when only being used by one user at a time:
Front end: Access 2010 database in Citrix
Back end: SharePoint List
The problem is that only one user can open the Access Database at a time since this action locks the database for other potential users. The locking occurs due to this link to the back end SharePoint list.
allow multiple users to update the SharePoint list through the access database at the same time?
