General :: Split Database - Multi-Users Causing Records To Lock
Apr 16, 2013I've got a database in Access 2007 that keeps track of client data for work. It's been working fine for about a month, and suddenly today other users can't change any information because the records are suddenly locked when accessed from their accounts.
I've already checked that they can't update forms, tables, nothing.
I've checked the database properties, it defaults to shared with no locks.
I've checked the properties of my forms - no locks.
I've double checked the permissions to the folder that the database is in - no restrictions.
The database is split.
Access 2010 Database - Multi Users - Same Record Prevention
Jan 12, 2013I am the administrator for a 2010 Access Client Database that consists of many clients with their information and we have three users whom go in and edit-add information to this Database and it hasn't been a problem until two users have tried to edit the same client record at the same time and then we have had some issues...
So, not sure this is even possible, but can one prevent more than one user being on the same client record? Is there a way to have a message come and say this record is in use?

Aug 5, 2015I have designed a database which I intend to split for multi-users to access from one front end icon on a shared folder at work. I have designed a form bound to cmr record table and on it a subform to another table where cmrs activities will be saved. The form has buttons to and blank controls.
User can create a new activity entry by typing into the blank controls and pressing the save button which saves to the activity table. the edit button extracts a selected records details (selected on the subform) from the activity table and populates the blank field for a user to edit and then hit save to save changes. The delete button deletes a selected record from the activity table. I intend to have multi-users either accessing, viewing and a possibly editing the same customer at the same time. The simultaneous viewing is essential but the simultaneous editing, though not desired is inevitably going to occur.
What I would like to know is:
1. Can you lock an individual record in a table or does the whole table have to be locked. E.g If Colleague 1 is editing Cmr A's record in Table1 can he lock it so Colleague 2 can view and edit Cmr B's record in Table1
2.Can Colleague 1 access/read Cmr A's record in Table1 to retrieve details toe the form controls if Colleague 2 is viewing or editing Cmr A's record in Table1
3. If record lock is possible, how can I initiate it in my example code below.Edit activity record Code

When I attempt to save as ACCDE I get an error that reads."Microsoft Access was unable to create the .accde, .mde, or .ade file.This error is usually associated with compiling a large database into an MDE file.* Because of the method used to compile the database, a considerable number of TableID references are created for each table.* The Access database engine can only create a maximum of 2048 open TableIDs at one time.* Exporting a database as an MDE potentially can exceed this limit if the database has a large number of objects (table, macro, form, report, etc).

Sep 10, 2013I created a database for multiple users, it seems only one user can be in database at a time. Is there a property that allows multiple users to simultaneously use database. My record locks property is no. Is there some other property that needs to be set ??

Aug 16, 2013I am using Access 2007. My boss has given me a project to create a tool for our team. I'm done with most part of the project, but for the last part I want editing and updating of database restricted to a few members of our team. However others can access the database and run queries etc. through buttons on a form.
I went about creating a login form for users to get access to the database and in turn created a table with fields UserID, UserName, UserPW and a yes/no field titled IsAdmin. For those who would be limited access would log in as 'Other' user and same as password. I am then using the code to determine if the user should be treated as admin or not by looking up the IsAdmin field in the table. Following is what I have so far, but it needs correction some places and I can't figure where:

Multi Users In Access

I'm having some issues with a database that I have created. All this time only one user would be in the database. But now I have 2 to 3 people at a time in the database. I get an error and its not letting the users put any information in.
I have it split into a FE and BE. I have it set to share. Any thoughts or suggestions?

The problem is that only one user can open the Access Database at a time since this action locks the database for other potential users. The locking occurs due to this link to the back end SharePoint list.

General :: Access Multi User Database - Error On Only One User
Apr 24, 2013I have a multi user database in Access 2000 that is on a server. The individual users have shortcuts pointing towards the server instance. One user and one user only when opening the shortcut gets the error "you do not have exclusive rights to the database" .
All other users can enter the database with no error box. I have checked the advanced setting under options and they are correct. Ironically if you go to start and open access then navigate to the database shortcut. It opens with no error.

This will also have a time sheet that I need to be completed once a fortnight, however I would like it to auto populate the staff members logged information (I will get into that a little later).
Question 1: I do not want the users to log into the database, however I do want the database recognise who they are from their windows logon details.

Jun 14, 2013I have developed a new database using Access 2003, which I need to roll out across various users. Some have XP, some Windows 7, and each of them has different size screens. I guess I will have to adjust the various forms to size to a particular users screen resolutions and sizes.
Is there any way of doing this within the database itself, or do I have have to adjust each form according to the local users PC specification?

Feb 3, 2015I'm an absolute novice at Access. I have a very simple (yet sufficient) database that lists our company's projects, tasks associated with those projects and when to invoice.
Our company consists of myself and my business partner. We both work from our (separate) homes. Our project files are stored in the cloud. This works well. We have investigated a server in the past, but found it to be cost-prohibitive and unnecessary for our business.
Is there a way that my business partner can have the Access database running at the same time as me, and make additions/modifications? I don't know how this would work in terms of updating/saving.

Jul 30, 2013I have created an access 07 database and split it to a back-end and a front-end with linked tables.
I wish to deploy it an a network of 4 computers, 3 of which are running on XP. The back-end will be on a computer running on XP. Now, from the instructions I have come across online, the Back-end has to be located on a folder where all users have Red and Write rights!!! And I am thinking, if the users on this network can actually see the back-end since it is on a shared folder where they have all the rights, then does that not compromise the security?
Is there a way of linking to the back-end on a network WITHOUT the users being able to access the back-end?

Feb 28, 2014I have included some code to disable the access PassKey (holding shift down as you open the database so that the database window appears). It is password protected and it works pretty well for normal users.
However, I have realised that even in this restricted mode you can go to File-Options-Current database and enable Access Keys. This then lets you open the database window by pressing F12.
My question is, is there a way to absolutely stop anyone from ever viewing the database window at all? All my code is password protected, but I still don't want an ICT person fiddling with my tables and queries!

Jan 3, 2013I was wondering if it was possible to be able to make changes to a form whilst others are accessing different forms.
At the moment, if i am editing the database any user trying to access the database gets a error warning them, they the database is in admin.
But if another user is in the database while i am trying to change a form / report, i am unable to save.
I no the simple way to do this would be to do changes whilst no-one is in. Its just some minor tweeks need doing during the day.
General :: Multi User Database With No Network And Without Server?
Sep 19, 2012I am developing a database for a company with about 10 users of the DB each using the DB on their own PC/Mac.
The workplace does not have a network. All work is done and stored on their own computers. They do not have a server either.
They do have a BT Business Hub providing broadband both wired and wirelessly.
The database is built using Access 2010.
I need to set up user groups/permissions on the database so certain staff can only see certain forms/tables etc...
What are my options here?
There is money available to buy a server or whatever. But ideally if there is another way of storing it and doing it, then I would like to give that a try.
I was reading somewhere you can use the Hub to create a small network, is this possible? And if so, whats the set up process for this?
General :: Split Database - Users Seeing Blank Forms
Apr 10, 2013I have a split database consisting of an ACCDB backend helf on a shared drive, and a local ACCDR frontend distributed through email. I recently distributed a copy of the ACCDR to a user, and she says that the main menu opens fine, but when she clicks a button to open a form, the form opens but is completely blank. I've googled some possible causes for this (e.g. on Allen Brown's website) and none seem to be relevant, or would explain why this started happening all of a sudden. I can't reproduce this bug at all.
