General :: No Permission To Open Database Object Error
Jan 20, 2015
I have a 2003 .mdb file and the associated Workgroup Information File which normally resides on a network in a folder V:V-Base-DatabaseDATA. I have the Workgroup Information File.
The database is unsupported and we need to migrate the data to a new web based database.
When I try to open the database with the shift key down I get the following message :
You do not have the necessary permission to use the V:V-Base-DatabaseDATAV-Basebe.mdb object.
What is the best way to access the data and do I need to do this on the server instead of a local drive off site?

I linked table rawdata from a database called competitor from a ODBC Database. I run a query with to make a table with a criteria where it retrieves roughly 10 columns with 719,000 rows. And it gives me this error.
(Cannot open database". It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt.
I asked the creator of the database and they said the database grows automatically and it was created with the same Access version as i am using to run the query.
Also when I do a RUN without creating a table and just selecting and displaying the data it does not give me any issues.

Couple days ago our database was not opening, Access would open but show a blank workspace. Anyhow, we restored the database from Server and it worked on all 5 shared systems on company's network but this one computer. It is giving the error, "Object or class does not support the set of events."
I tried to copy new local folder but nothing. I checked the links and target folder it looks fine.
I tried to import the everything into new database but it said I don't have permission for that.
what's causing this issue and what can I do to fix it?

Hi
I'm having trouble with my database (Access 2000). I'm trying to export a file into a text file by clicking on a button. Below is the code. Where the code is in bold that is when the runtime error happens.
If i export the code manually by right click on the query > Export then this works, but for some reason by clicking on the button will not work.
Private Sub cmdExport_Click()
Dim sExportFilePath As String
sExportFilePath = DLookup("[DateExportLocation]", "tblSettings", "[ID]=1") ' Path if file to be exported
DoCmd.OpenQuery "qryUpDateTransmissionDateAndTime", acViewNormal, acEdit ' Update dates time
DoCmd.TransferText acExportDelim, "ExportFile", "qryExportFile", sExportFilePath
End Sub
I appreciate your help

I create a front end and back end that resides on the lan. Front has everything besides the table which resides on the back end. Front ends table are linked to the backend. I have two computer that i am testing it on. Both of them runs Access 2003 runtime and windows has been update to the latest version, both xp machine aswell.Both has user right to read and write to that directory on the lan. Ldr exist when either of them uses access file. The strange thing is when i run a command to copy some data from one table to another one. one of the machine give me the following error "3027 Cannot Update. database or object is read only". While on the other machine it runs flawless. Another weird thing is if i modified some values in table by using forms it works great on both so i am a bit clueless where the problems is. its seems my problem is copying from one table to another. i dont have problem modyfing one table. Here is the code i use to that halt my ms access database.
Dim dbs As Database, rsProposal As Recordset, TES As String, stdocname As String, stLinkCriteria As String
TES = Me![TESID]
If TES = DLookup("TESID", "Proposals", "TESID =" & "'" & TES & "'") Then
MsgBox "Proposal Already Exists for TES ID: " & vbCrLf & _
" " & TES, vbOKOnly, "Proposal Already Exists"
GoTo Image264_Click_Exit
Else
If MsgBox("Do You Really Want to Create" & vbCrLf & "a New Proposal for TES ID " & vbCrLf & " " & TES & " ?", 289, "Create New Proposal?") = vbOK Then
Set dbs = CurrentDb
Set rsProposal = dbs.OpenRecordset("Proposals")
With rsProposal
.AddNew
![Long_Desc] = Me![Description]
![Short_Desc] = Me![Opportunity]
![Dest_Site] = Me![Install Site]
![TESID] = Me![TESID]
![End_User] = Me![Contractor/Purchaser Name]
![Date_Due] = Me![Proposal Due Date]
![Date_Completed] = Me![Close Date]
![Status] = Me![Status]
.Update
.Close
Set rsProposal = Nothing
dbs.Close
Set dbs = Nothing
End With
stLinkCriteria = "[TESID] = " & "'" & TES & "'"
stdocname = "Form Prop - Detail"
DoCmd.OpenForm stdocname, , , stLinkCriteria
DoCmd.Close acForm, "Form TES - Detail"
End If
End If

Been using XP all this time, just got a new computer with Windows 7. Still using old Access 2000, not my call to update as this is the decision of the guy who owns the database.
Anyways, I opened Access for the first time, just a blank database so I can set up the user account. When I go to Tools > Security > User and Group Accounts and try to assign a password to Admin, I get the error message that it cannot update because the database is read only.
Where did this come from? I have never seen this message before, and the person who owns the database has a couple computers with Windows 7 that I have set this up on and did not run into this issue.
I realize that there can be some compatibility issues with Windows 7 and Access 2000 but it has worked on other Windows 7 computers, and not using the virtual XP mode.

I have adopted someone elses database. It is a front end with about 100 linked tables/forms/reports/modules. The problem is that the database is really large. I would think by looking at the objects that it should be around 5mb tops, however after compacting it is still 63mb.
Is there a way (vba or otherwise) to look at each object and get its size in KB?
Once I can figure out which object is taking up too much space I can work on making them smaller.

I have 2 tables and from them I do a query called "Query_Dates". There, I created 4 calculated fields which compares fields of the two tables previously mentioned.
What I am trying to do is everytime the calculated fields are equal to "Diff", gets the value from the second table (ADHOC) and and puts it in the 1st table (Master_Table). In total there are 4 fields I would change depending on other 4 fields called (CheckRR, CheckQual, CheckProd, CheckCap).
The problem is that it gives me an error 3027, object is read-only.
Below, you can find the code.
Private Sub Comando27_Click()
Dim rst As DAO.Recordset
Dim rsd As DAO.Recordset
Dim supplierName As String
Set rsd = Application.CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("Query_Dates", dbOpenDynaset)
Set rst = Application.CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("Master_Table" , dbOpenDynaset)
[Code] .....

Hello,
I get this error when opening my MS Access database - You do not have the necessary permissions to use the ...[flie name and path]... object. Have your system administrator or the person who created this object establish the necessary permissions for you.
The database works fine on another computer, but every time I transfer it to mine (I am on a network), I get the above error. I have recreated the User-level security workgroup file, no joy.
Can you help?

I got these three code routines for backing up an Access database file from two different forums. I installed them as is, on a test database, creating command buttons for each. The test database is not password protected. I intend (if I can get one of these working) to install it on simple, single file, password protected databases.The first two came from Access World Forums at: URL....
Code:
Function BACKUPS()
On Error GoTo Err_BACKUPS
Dim fso As Object
Dim sSourcePath As String
Dim sSourceFile As String
Dim sBackupPath As String
Dim sBackupFile As String
[code]....
I got a compile error "Invalid use of property." on the button sub. Then there was a simple On Click sub:
Code:
Private Sub Backup_Click()
Dim fs
Set fs = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
fs.CopyFile CurrentProject.FullName, "C:", True
Set fs = Nothing
MsgBox "Database has been backed up successfully"
End Sub
Private Sub Command32_Click()
End Sub
On this one I got a "Permission denied." error on the CopyFile method. As I said before, my database is not password protected.I found this third bit of code on another forum: URL...
Code:
Public Function db_Backup()
On Error GoTo db_Backup_Err
Dim sourceFile As String, destinationFile As String
Dim aFSO As Variant
Dim path As String, name As String
[code]....
On this one I got another "Permission denied." error on the CopyFile method. Again, my database is not password protected. This code had appeared to me to be the most promising of the three.

Hi,
I am not able to open database in access2003 because of error 3197.
Everytime when trying to open ,the same message appears on the screen:
"The Microsoft Jet engine database stopped the process because you and another person are attempting to change the same data at the same time".
I have tried to import that file in the new database,but that doesn't work. Even when my copy the database on other machine, same error message come up. Some one suggested it might have to do with enabling the database for multiuser access but i can't even open the database.
Does anyone know how to open the database with error 3197?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Baba

hi,
the following error message appears when trying to access my database. I can't seem to get into it at all, not even by trying to import the data tables over into a new database. the following message appears:
"The database has been converted from a prior version of Microsoft Access by using the DAO Compact Database method instead of Convert Database Command on the Tools Menu. This has left the database in a partially converted state. If you have a copy of the original format use the convert Database on the Tools menu to convert it. If the original database is no longer available, create a new database and import your tables and queries to preserve your data. Your other database applications can't be recorded''..
the copy and the back up wont let me in either, this just suddenly happened.
Please help!
Thanks in advance

We have a new user who is unable to get into a database. Another user in the same office had no problems.
The other user is using:
"C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft OfficeOffice14MSACCESS.EXE" /wrkgrp"ServerNameShareNameSFTPSFTPWorkgroup.mdw" "C:SFTP Database V2.1 FESFTP Database V2.1 FE.mdb
The new user was not able to access the share at all using ServerNameShareNameSFTP until he changed the path to:
"C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft OfficeOffice14MSACCESS.EXE" /wrkgrp"ServerName.ACCT05.us.companyabbreviation.comSha reNameSFTPSFTPWorkgroup.mdw" "C:SFTP Database V2.1 FESFTP Database V2.1 FE.mdb"
Now he can get into the SFTP folder, but when he uses the shortcut, he gets an error stating Microsoft Access couldn't find the file ServerName.ACCT05.us.companyabbreviation.comSha reNameSFTPSFTPWorkgroup.mdw 1" "C:SFTP Database V2.1 FESFTP Database V2.1 FE.mdb" (Note the space and 1)
I created a new shortcut, and I was able to open the db using his target line, even though I can use the shorter one. For the new user, this still generates an error.

Dim MyDb As Database
Dim MyRs As Recordset
Set MyDb = DBEngine.Workspaces(0).OpenDatabase("AMD", dbDriverPrompt, False, "ODBC;DATABASE=AMD;DSN=Remote")
Set MyRs = MyDb.OpenRecordset("SELECT AllAttendanceEvents.* FROM AllAttendanceEvents ORDER BY AllAttendanceEvents.EntryTime DESC")
MyRs.MoveFirst
While Not MyRs.EOF
MyVal = MyRs!EntryTime
Debug.Print MyVal
MyRs.Edit
MyRs!Ix = 50099
MyRs.Update
MyRs.MoveNext
Wend
When it execute the red line statement, it generates the error:Cannot update. Database or object is read-only.
This error is generated isnpite that I already checked the boxes: SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE in the Permissions page of the tables?

I've been working on a database for the past month and all of a sudden I'm getting an error "the microsoft jet database engine could not find the object 'database'" and when I click ok nothing is showing (i.e. no project window or anything). I normally do backups on something this large but for some reason I didn't on this one. The size of the file is still large but doesn't look like anything is in it.I've tried opening a new one and link and import everything but I get the same error.

Cannot Open Database". It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt. I have a colleague that is using Microsoft Access to import objects from SQL server but he's getting the above error. I've checked the login my colleagues uses and it has all the right permissions ect but I cannot seem to figure out why this error is still happening. Is it something to do with the SQL server or Microsoft Access?
