General :: Open Read Only / Password To Modify

May 6, 2014

OK, I tried to see if this was possible but not finding much of an answer. So I figured I'd check with our merry band of experts if it even is.

I'm using Access 2013 and I have a database I would like everyone to be able to see but only those that have a password to be able to change data.

Is there a way to even to do this? A code somewhere maybe?

I've been able to find the option to make the whole database password protected but that's not what I'm looking for.

General :: Unable To Set Password - Open Dialog Box

Mar 2, 2015

When trying to set a password I receive the following message.

You must have the database open for exclusive use to set or remove the database password.

To open the database exclusively, close the database, and then reopen it by clicking the File tab and using the Open command, In the Open dialog box, click the arrow next to the Open button and then select Open Exclusive.

When I follow the instructions, I don't get a dialog box. How do I set a password?

Tables :: Password Protect A Linked Table Or Make It Read Only

Nov 14, 2012

I have a table that I imported from another database. I used import Access - Link to the table source by creating a linked table. - then downloaded in my database.

I want to use the linked table to create relationships and forms but do not want to even accidently edit it. The table gets updated in the database on a weekly bases and I am hoping it gets updated automatically in my database as well. does it automatically get updated or do i have to set up something?

Also, I want to protect the data in that particular table and either password protect it or make it read only. Can I do that? If so, how?

General :: Split Database - Modify Backend File And Make A New Front End

Jun 12, 2012

So a while back I created a database which I use to keep track of my companies large list of products. It is very simple only 3 tables, 1 query and 1 form. After running into a problem with copying and pasting updates on each computer in the office I decided to split the database on a network drive. This worked for a bit, however I had to add new fields and modify the form, which corrupted the file. Luckily I had a backup before the split.

As far as I could tell all I had to do was modify the backend file and make a new front end. However it seems like it is not as easy as I thought it would be. How do you modify a split database without corrupting the files or using a non-split copy?

Open Hyperlinked Word Documents As Read Only

Mar 22, 2014

I have a database with hyperlinks to open word documents on my network. If someone else has that word document open it will ask me if I want to notify or open in read only. However since upgrading to Access 2013, (from Access 2003), this sometimes freezes the database.

I am wandering is there a way to tell Access (or Word) to open the document in read only if there is someone using it already?

Modules & VBA :: Check If Database Is Open (Read Only Mode)

Jul 16, 2015

I would like to be able to check if a db is open and if it is to prevent the user from proceeding.

I use the Access 2013 Runtime. I can check if a db is open by trying to open Exclusively, using something like

Code: [URL] ....

But if the db is already open Not exclusively and I try to open it exclusively it does not raise an error and it allows the user to open the db in Read Only mode.

I would like to be able to prevent this, because careless and/or inexperienced users may open several instances of the db.

Of course, if the db is already open exclusively it does not allow you to open it exclusively another time.

Open A Password Protected Database

Jun 22, 2007

Hi,
I'm trying to convert a access database in to a sql server. My client hasn't got the exclusive access or doesn't have a username password for the access database. I'm trying to import the data in the access to sql server and when I try to open it it says
"
This error is usually associated with opening or converting a security enhanced Access 97 or earlier database. If you are not the owner of the database, you most likely will not have the necessary access rights to open or convert it.
"

Is there a way around this.

Cheers,
-Vije

Open Password Protected Access 2007 Db In ASP

Feb 11, 2008

Hi, I have been opening password protected access 2003 databases with ASP / ADO for years now. However now we have updated to office 2007 everything gone bottoms up.

I have an access 2007 database (newly made, not converted from 2003), and a fresh asp page. I've gotten the new connection string information for Access 2007 from the internet yet the page cannot open the database.

connection string being used:

sConnString="Provider=Microsoft.ace.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=" & strPath & ";Jet OLEDB:Database PASSWORD= password"

When I try to open the page the error i get is - "Not a valid password" - 80040e4d. I'm 100% sure the password is correct, the driver is right (the server has office 2007 installed, and the new access driver from the M$ website). Every page i've seen on the internet says that the code I'm using is correct, yet asp still can't open it.

If i remove the password from the database it opens fine, so it's not a corrupt database, or bad path in the code.

If you can shed any light on my problem I would be eternally grateful - been working on it for hours now!

Many thanks
Ryan

Login Username Password Open Form Based On Id

Sep 13, 2006

Hi Freinds,

After viewing all the threads i got some useful information but just wanted some help as i am not a programmer but can understand logics. There are 2 issues i want to resolve

1. First query is i have a login form and in a table there is username password. Now issue is based on the username person should be able to view things. There would be 6 differrent departments. So i would have six users and 1 id only for viewing. These six users should be able to see there own records either assigned to them or create new query and assign to any other 5 users. Now option is either I create six replicated forms and based on the user login i open user form or switch board. Can there be any option where in a table i store the activities they can do and whereever these guys go the code check in table and enable or disable the view of items for other guys. Users would be accessing forms, reports and they would have option of entering cusotmer information and querying and changing information. The user which has option of viewing reports will only have option of seeing some customized reports.

2. Second query is that these six users would be addressing issues to each other regarding cusotmer issue. In this every response of the case should be stored in a table. i.e. like for customer x user1 said abc on 10th then user2 said cbf on 11th. so this would have history of case what was happeining in the matter.

I dont know how to go about this and if there is a easy solution. I dont want to use access security cause then all the six users would have security file.

Would apreciate your help and till now whatever responses i have seen in other forms they were quite helpful and did help me lot in understanding access.

Thanks to all who would be visiting this thread and taking pain in answering the query.

Take care
Ankur

General :: Database Or Object Is Read Only?

Aug 25, 2012

Been using XP all this time, just got a new computer with Windows 7. Still using old Access 2000, not my call to update as this is the decision of the guy who owns the database.

Anyways, I opened Access for the first time, just a blank database so I can set up the user account. When I go to Tools > Security > User and Group Accounts and try to assign a password to Admin, I get the error message that it cannot update because the database is read only.

Where did this come from? I have never seen this message before, and the person who owns the database has a couple computers with Windows 7 that I have set this up on and did not run into this issue.

I realize that there can be some compatibility issues with Windows 7 and Access 2000 but it has worked on other Windows 7 computers, and not using the virtual XP mode.

General :: Need To Add Data To Read Only Database

May 7, 2015

I have read only access to a database maintained by a vendor. I am using an append query to search for new records in that database every time my database opens through a macro. This adds any new records to my table. I then add additional information to each record in my table. This is newly acquired information, not calculated, and it is different for each record.

My question is can I keep my table up to date with the vendor table without running the append query macro at open every time as my database may remain open for extended periods of time during updating of records.

General :: Cannot Update - Database Or Object Is Read-only

Aug 24, 2013

I have 2 tables and from them I do a query called "Query_Dates". There, I created 4 calculated fields which compares fields of the two tables previously mentioned.

What I am trying to do is everytime the calculated fields are equal to "Diff", gets the value from the second table (ADHOC) and and puts it in the 1st table (Master_Table). In total there are 4 fields I would change depending on other 4 fields called (CheckRR, CheckQual, CheckProd, CheckCap).

The problem is that it gives me an error 3027, object is read-only.

Below, you can find the code.

Private Sub Comando27_Click()
Dim rst As DAO.Recordset
Dim rsd As DAO.Recordset
Dim supplierName As String
Set rsd = Application.CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("Query_Dates", dbOpenDynaset)
Set rst = Application.CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("Master_Table" , dbOpenDynaset)

[Code] .....
