General :: Opening Hidden Excel Window With VBA
Aug 10, 2013
I need Access to open an Excel file prior to pulling information from it, because the Excel file itself only updates when it is opened. I was able to achieve this with the code below:
Quote:
'Opens a hidden Excel window.
Dim app As New Excel.Application
app.Visible = False
Dim book As Excel.Workbook
Set book = app.Workbooks.Open("S:OperationsAssistantDataba sesBUSES.xlsx")
[code]....
This works fine if NO Excel window is already open, but if the user happens to have some file open in Excel already, my code doesn't seem to work right. The file does not open in a hidden window. Instead, it opens in the window already open, and additionally, the file is not closed afterward, which leaves the user wondering where the hell this random file came from, and they have to close it. I need this Excel file to open, but I want it to be completely hidden from the user.

I'm working on a database that produces employee contracts. To make it look as professional as possible I hide the Access main window when the splash screen loads using the ShowWindow function. The various forms to check and enter details all pop up without any problem, but when I get to the last stage where I use a report to produce the contract and then open it in PrintPreview mode, it won't display (unless I show the main window again , which looks very untidy!). Is it actually possible to display a report with the main Access window hidden?

I am trying to open MX Excel using a command button. I have tried using a hyperlink a various codes that i have found online with no luck. The Excel file is being used by the Access as it bring data from the spreadsheet a displays it within a subform. (I think this is where the problem occurs) The subform displaying some data from Excel is working fine but when i click my hyperlinked button i am met with errors and the file will not open.

In my database I have a field with contents I want to copy and then paste into Excel. Whilst in development, I've made sure the field is visible so that I can see when it has any content. I have placed a button next to the field that copies its content to the clipboard. This works fine and can be confirmed if I open Notepad and paste the content into it with no issues.
The problem starts when I open Excel. I've tried opening it using another button and manually and the same thing happens when I try and paste the clipboard content into it. It's empty! I can't even directly paste into Notepad once Excel has opened. However, if I go back to the database with Excel already open in the background, I can hit my copy button and the content pastes into Excel with no issues. This proves my code is fine.

I need some ideas here.
I export my tables to workbook sheets in excel using transferspreadsheet.The different sheets in my workbook are later imported to the corresponding access tables using transferspreadsheet.
1)I want to know how to totally hide my sheets in the workbook so that the users don't tamper with them after export using transferspreadsheet.

My application is developed in Access 2003 version. Recently we moved from Access 2003 to Access 2010. Now users are facing usability issues like - in Access 2003 all the forms are opening in different windows and they can move to forms easily. But in Access 2010 all the Forms are opening in same window, if they want to move to different forms then they need to close the current window or press ctrl+F6. How can I enable/open forms multiple window in Access 2010.

I have a weird problem with one of my databases. Out of a sudden, when I wanted to open that database the databse window did not show up anymore. With this I can not access my forms, tables etc. any longer. However, when I click on View->Databaseobjects and choose e.g Forms than I can click on the code icon and I can access my code as well as the corresponing form in the design view. I can not access the tables but when I click on the "show fields" in the design view the list of fileds is showing for the corresponding form.
I tried that database on 3 different PC's with the same effect.
Does anybody have an idea what could have caused that the database window is not showing anymore and/or how could I bring that window back.
Thanks for any help and advice
Josef

I am using Access 2010 and creating a front-end for a customer database.
Take a look at the screen capture I added to this post.
What I want to happen is on that "Supplier" button. When I click on it, it opens a new window with the "Supplier" form and on the specific supplier for this product. There is an attached image of what that macro looks like.
The problem I am having is that I do not want the Supplier form to open in a new window, I want it to open within the Navigation Form, replacing the what is currently on the screen.

I am working on a form as a user interface. I have added an picture to the form and it will change, according to the selection in the combobox. It looks small, and not clear because of the size, and each image has different sizes. I would like to know if there is a a way that will allow me to click on it, and then it will open in another window so it is bigger with the right sizes. I was thinking that it could be something in the on click event.

Hi there,
My problem seems somewhat simple, but I guess since I'm posting this it was quite the contrary. I've completed my form and have linked all queries and reports and created all my macros for the form. Everything looks great but I when I created a .MAF shortcut to access the form directly from my desktop, it opens the form really big and maximized. Every time I open it, I hit the 'restore down' box-in-box button on the top right and it makes it just how I want it. Can I retain this as a default setting when I open it? I've checked in the Form options but no luck.

I have three forms:
Form_A (main form for the application - should always be open)
Form_B (always open, but sometimes has visibility set to false)
Form_C (opens from button on Form_B)
When I press the button on Form_B, the only code behind it is DoCmd.OpenForm "Form_C". This seems to hide Form_B, and open Form_C behind Form_A (which is the main form of the application) inside of an Access window.
I would like Form_C to open in front of Form_B. I suspect that I set up the form incorrectly or something when I created it, and it is therefore opening inside an Access window.

I wanted to send a message to the person who created this sample database with a modification query but I don't have enough posts to do this, so my message would not send.
The below sample database called
Sample - Use Hidden Form to Log Users ,URL...
I would like to add to my database. Any way to modify the form/code so that I can log more than one form? I have 5 forms that I would like to log user in and out of but I dont know how to adapt this to do that?

My users do a fair bit of copy/paste from any number of sources.
How do I force the paste action to strip out any hidden characters? Now I realize that a return and a space are hidden characters, so how do I strip out everything but the ones that I want?

Is there a command that I can use to export a spreadsheet to Excel...
I could use docmd.transferspreadsheet
however that would also mean i would need an input window where users would need to manually put in the location they wish to save to...
Instead, could i not get a "SaveAs" command window or a file browser at least for them to search that way?
Alternatively, If it was possible to use VBA to pop up the "Export - Excel Spreadsheet" window, that would be just as good.

I have created an application. It has a split front end and back end. I plan to distribute the runtime version. I have used code throughout that "hides" the microsoft access shell for popup (modal) windows. In every form & report I have a function to show or hide the access window. Everything works great until I get to my reports. I open reports in print preview. I created a custom table (USysRibbons) and added a Reports print preview ribbon & xml. I assigned that ribbon to my report(s), and I assigned it in options as the default ribbon. If I test the ribbon (by working in the database using "shift" open) I see my ribbon. But, in when I open app without shift or or if I emulate runtime, I can't get the ribbon.
I have multiple popups forms, several non popup forms and a couple of reports.I just want to keep all the access background stuff hidden - except for needing the ability to print.

I have set up a command button to export an query to Excel, then create a pivot table with the data. That all works fine however the code which opens the sheet for veiwing after the code formats the pivot table only works once. The second time the user runs the query it is in read only mode those it has been close. The code I used to open the spreadsheet is:
Dim oApp As Object
Set oApp = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
oApp.Visible = True
On Error Resume Next
oApp.UserControl = True
Workbooks.Open Filename:="I:Program FilesCount.xls"
The users are just closing excel normally. Any Ideas?

Hi guys, this might be a quickie, I did a quick search but couldn't find anything :/
Basically my database creates a table which some people would rather analyse within excel because they're not comfortable with access. I can get the table exporting to an xls file no problem, howeevr what I would like is for the database to export the file and open the file in excel at the same time so the user doesn't need to open up excel and find the file etc...
Any ideas??

I have a query, which looks like that:
ID Year SAP Geris
1 2008 20,00 € 5,00 €
1 2009 40,00 € 4,00 €
1 2010 60,00 € 6,00 €
2 2007 80,00 € 4,00 €
2 2008 100,00 € 8,00 €
2 2009 100,00 € 4,00 €
3 2008 1.000,00 € 1,00 €
3 2009 100,00 € 8,00 €
3 2010 2,00 € 9,00 €
4 2008 9,00 € 10,00€
So each combination has an ID. It's called the SuWID. I want to Transfer the data to a fixed Excel sheet. I wrote the following code
Dim xlApp As Object ' Excel.Application
Dim xlBook As Object ' Excel.Workbook
Dim xlSheet As Object ' Excel.Worksheet
Dim rst As DAO.Recordset
Set xlApp = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
xlApp.Visible = True
[Code] ....
The only Thing what i still want to have is that, before it opens the Excel form, which works already perfectly well, that a msgbox will Show up and ask me, which SuWID do you want to see in the Excel sheet.

I have included some code to disable the access PassKey (holding shift down as you open the database so that the database window appears). It is password protected and it works pretty well for normal users.
However, I have realised that even in this restricted mode you can go to File-Options-Current database and enable Access Keys. This then lets you open the database window by pressing F12.
My question is, is there a way to absolutely stop anyone from ever viewing the database window at all? All my code is password protected, but I still don't want an ICT person fiddling with my tables and queries!
