There are hyperlinks throughout the database as well as a few lines of code that reference network locations that could change 1-2 years down the line. What I need to do is build a "housekeeping" form that is password protected where users can edit those hyperlinks via text-boxes. My problem is I'm not sure where to store the the data from the text-boxes to make it persistent. Making a table for the hyperlinks seems to be the wrong approach but I could be wrong.
I want to know a way of populating unbound textboxes with data from a table without using the easy assigning data in the property of the box. I want it to be all done with code, which to me isnt a huge deal but I've yet to find answers on the web pertaining to this issue.
for example:
Say i was searching a primary key in one box and based on what ever is typed in i'd like it to populate the rest of the textboxes.
hey all i was wondering, can a unbound text box be a bound textbox. I have just noticed that my unbound text box doesnt not save in the field in my table, that is because it is unboune right? but i need it to save to my table, and i guees the only way to do that is to save in in the save button right? thanks

I've written an application in VB.Net and now I need to transfer the data on textboxes on a form to a report for printing. Only the data on the form is what I want to preview and print.
When a user selects a name from a combo box then 11 textboxes are populated with personal information.
What I am looking for is when the user edits the persons information (i.e. changes the persons phone number to a different number), how do I update the table with this information?
Is there a way to only update fields that have changed? or do I have to save all textboxes?
I have read about an "Update Query" and a SQL Update, but I did not think the two applied. I am sure that I am wrong, lol.
I tried the "Docmd.Runcommand acCmdSave (in the OnClick event cmd button) but it did not make any changes to the table.
This is what I put in the OnClick event:
Code: Private Sub cmdSaveEdit_Click() DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdSave TextBoxLockDown Me.Requery End Sub
My current work suffered some kind of internal error and two imported objects, a form file and a module, became logical orphans. No code is visible, and I get a message whenever transiting to VBA: "Error accessing file. Network connection may have been lost." Needless to say (but I will anyway) I am not on a network.
I was able to purge the objects from the 'database' dialog but NOT from the project explorer in Basic. Will anything short of dynamite do the trick?
Alexander Access 2000
This works: open a blank database then get external data from the broken .MDB. The orphans get left behind. There's got to be a better way?!
I have a checkbox which when checked then turns textboxes to locked as below. However when I navigate to the next record which may not be checked the text boxes remain locked. I obviously want to lock the boxes depending on each record. I am navigating via the windows next/back record buttons. How do i do it?
Private Sub Check44_Click() If Check44.Value = -1 Then serial.Locked = True gain.Locked = True swst.Locked = True Else serial.Locked = True gain.Locked = True swst.Locked = True End If End Sub
We have split a database and have about 6 users connected to a gigabit switch. There is a noticeable delay of about 5 to 15 seconds when we search by an account name. We are working with a split form, where it has the database records listed at the bottom half of the screen.
Is there a way to improve the performance? I tried a persistent connection, but it didn't seem to work and would occasionally get an error message.
I read a lot about Access database bloat when using temporary tables that reside in the front end, which was where I created and used temporary tables before reading about bloat.I therefore wrote a routine on startup that creates a temporary database and then copies the structure of the temporary tables into that temporary database using the DoCmd.TransferDatabase command. It kills the DB on exiting the application.I also read about keeping a persistent connection (handle) open to a linked DB as long as the main application is active, and this for efficiency reasons. I got this to work as well.
Being a self-taught Access programmer I have two questions:
1.Is the use of docmd.Transferdatabase a good way to work and does it reduce bloat by transferring the structure of the temp files to the temporary database? 2.If I want to work with the tables in my temporary database I use the following code for example: Dim dbTemp As Database temporary database Set dbTemp = DBEngine.Workspaces(0).OpenDatabase(strDBTemp) Set rstRpt = dbTemp.OpenRecordset("tblRptPU001", dbOpenDynaset) .. My question is this: if, at the end of the procedure, I write dbTemp.close set dbTemp = Nothing
does this leave the persistent connection open? The reason for the question is that I intend to split the database and soon go multi user, which is when efficiency is even more important than when working on a temporary database.
I have created a form where data is entered. I wish to place a command button on the form and when it is pressed, it deletes data in specified textboxes. The texboxes are: LAST_NAME, FIRST_NAME, MIDDLE_NAME.
I assume this is done using vb, but I am clueless.
I am creating an Access program for logging in Parcels that are delivered and I am having some problems.
I have a Table called 'Contacts' and within this there are 4 Columns: 'Names', 'Departments', 'Extensions' and 'Emails'.
I also have a Form and there is 1 Combobox and 3 Textboxes relating to this Table: 'Addressed To', 'Department', 'Ext Number' & 'Email'. (see http://c0ld.homeip.net/parcel_log.jpg for details).
What I would like to do is select the Name from the Combobox (Addressed To) and the have the other Textboxes (Department, Ext Number & Email) get auto-filled with the corresponding data that’s within the Table for that Name.
If anyone would like the .mdb for this, please PM me.
Private Sub Combo1309_AfterUpdate() If Me.Combo1309.Value = "Yes" Then Me.Text1307 = Environ("UserName") Me.Patient_Gender.BackColor = vbYellow ElseIf Me.Combo1309.Value = "No" Then Me.Text1307 = Environ("UserName") Me.Patient_Gender.BackColor = vbRed End If End Sub
I have the above code in an unbound textbox and it functions correctly. Expect, the value Yes/No appears in every record in that textbox,So, if in record 1 the value of that textbox 1309 is Yes in record 2,3,4 the value of that textbox 1309 is set to Yes. How do I make it blank until the user selects the proper choice.
I created a database and released it for my team (frontend/backend setup). however, most of the members on my team are getting #Name? or #Invalid on some dlookup formulas in unbound text boxes. However, on my version, I see the actual data shown.
I tried adding the Microsoft references via the VBA screen, but that only worked for one person.
i have developed an access database and working on interface through forms & reports .i needed that a user must have to click save button to update the data and i have found that without an unbound control its hard to achieve functionality .so i want to know step by step how to update records using unbound controls and a save button .
I try to develop an access 2010 Forms that contains 1 or 2 charts. So my problem is, in my form I have 1 combobox and 5 unbound textbox. Inside Event OnChange combobox, there is function DCount that will setup value to the 5 unbound textbox. Until this point, the 5 unbound textbox is have its value.
Now I would like to create a chart that value are based on the 5 unbound text. How can i accomplish this ? i see in many articles, a chart row source is link to a cross tab query.
I have a form with a textbox which when users enter a unique number(barcode) I want to run a query which pics up the barcode number, checks against the product id and fills the subform with the name of the product and price.
The basic details of the product table is like:
product id (Autonumber) prdoduct name (text) price barcodeId (number)
The subform where i want the result to go is the order details fields product name and price.
I am trying to figure out how to do this but my mind keeps going blank, its been a long while since i used ms access.
I have a list box on an unbound main form, which contains a rowsource consisting of files in a certain folder. The listbox is unbound
when I change an item in a subform, the listbox should update to show different items from the same folder.
Now it is updating correctly, so the rowsource appears to be correct, , but then the listbox behaves strangely - with the first item being sort of permanently selected - or at any rate - strange selection behaviour
out of interest, changed it to a combo box and it works correctly. so there must be some difference between the two?
After investigation, it might be this : [URL] ....
The appearance is similar to what is described in the thread.
although I have played with the strings to get them shorter without getting it work correctly. very strange
if I run the code to update the listbox from the subform, either directly, or by running as sub IN the main form, it produces this strange behaviour. If I run exactly the same code directly IN the main form, it seems to work properly.
I'm using a very simple unbound textbox on a very simple form, with the following Expression to find me data in a query and sum the last 30 days, based on a combo-box on my form...
Only thing is, it's showing me only the data from the last 30 days...regardless of the value in the combo.
=DSum("Credit","qryIncVsExp","TransDate>=#" & Date()-30 & "#" And "AccountID_FK="""&[cboaccount].[column](1)&"")
I'm sure it's something to do with the number of "'s I have, but I'm probably more than likely ever so wrong.
I am populating a table using combo boxes in a continuous form. The box box alone works fine without any issue of repeated data. But as you know obviously the combo box only populates data in a single column of the table, in which case mine is the LASTNAME; so now I am attempting to populate a unbound textbox with the FIRSTNAME side-by-side with the combo box for the same record.
In the After Update event of the cboLASTNAME:
Code: Me.txtFIRSTNAME = Me.cboLASTNAME.Column(3)
However, after updating the the combo the textbox data is repeated.
What really is the best way, programming-wise and user experience-wise when presenting records in a form:
1) Use the form with sub-forms to show records. Add new records via a popup form and use recordsets in VBA to allow validating.
2) Use unbound controls on a form and populate with pure VBA recordsets. For data with more than one row use list boxes. A popup form used for adding new or editing etc using VBA.
3) Another I haven't thought of; new or a combination of above?
I have a form with an unbound textbox. I want to be able to enter a sequence of digits and spaces (e.g., 02 950 4187); however, when I paste this into the box, I always have to delete the two spaces until the number is 9 digits long. Then it will accept the number and go look for the prize. How do I get the textbox to accept the number I paste in?
What I am wanting is to be able to build dynamic form content/elements based on entries on a table. This is for a gym membership system. What this form is going to be used for is to allow the front desk to scan a membership card which then performs a search on the database. Part of this search is going to be on a table that contains various add-on classes, tanning sessions, etc that a member can add beyond their base membership.
On the left side of the form, I will display a picture of the member and their name. What I am wanting to do on the right side of the form is to build a dynamic list of the add-on perks they are enrolled in.
I know I could hard program elements on the form to be visible or invisible, but that would be static and leave gaps when I have to turn things off b/c that member isn't enrolled in that class, etc.
Is this even possible with Access and VBA? I know I could do this sort of thing with a webpage using PHP, PERL or whatever. I don't know the limits of Access Forms and VBA.
I have written a call log system in Access 97 for a busy customer help desk. Now I never bind any of my forms as I like to use VBA code to verify the entry first before writing it to the table. However, every now and then that million to one shot occasion occurs where 2 help desk operators click "close call" on the form simultaneously and therefore one of them gets a debug error (ie the system is busy).
So to prevent this error I have included a "on error" statement within my code which utilises the "RESUME" command to go back to the top of my procedure (in effect trying again). Now I have coded this on error trap to present the user with a message box along the lines of "system busy click OK to retry" as I was unsure about just leaving the code to continually loop until succesful? Is my uncaertainty justified or can I just leave the code to keep looping until it carries out a successful write to the table? This would be preferable as really I dont want the user to even be aware as if they are presented with this message too many times they might start getting worried!!!
My final question is should I send the code back to a point preceding the "On Error" statement at the top or does the system still remember this and so I can send it to a point after this? This is only a issue as I can envisage a time when by the time the system has re-tried another user is also writing a record and so the "on error" (or system busy) may be triggered again.
Is anyone there who can show me a db sample of unbound data entry form. I want to control the builtin auto save of Access, because sometimes I don't want to save the data of my form..
