General :: Runtime Errors When Converting Macros To VBA
Jul 20, 2014
I'm getting sick of Access 2013 constantly doing this. I convert a macro to VBA form the ribbon menu then it doesn't run!
I've uploaded a screenshot of the latest error to irk me. This ran perfectly well as a macro but since i converted it to vba. (cos somethings i can do easier in vba than in macros) it doesnt run.

Hi,
I am currently trying to package and deploy my database as a runtime version, but am getting runtime errors when I open the installed database and I have no idea where to start with what the problems are! There does not seem to be much info that I can find on the web to help me. I am using DAO, Excel, and Word object references.I noticed on my main switchboard when I removed the more complicated code then there was no error.If anyone has any pointers or are able to point me in the right direction that would be muchly appreciated.
Tania

Why does one have to enable all macros in the trust center in order for VBA to run? I'm making front end applications with Access and having to allow ALL macros to make them user friendly makes a huge hole in general security. I don't use any macros - it's all done by VBA.
Users are on a plethora of different platforms so changing reg keys is out of the question. Is there some way of self sign an Access accde? Is there some safe GENERAL approach (trusted sites is not good either) to allowing VBA from my applications ONLY?

I have a .mdb file (access 2003) which has ballooned in size to 1.2GB and I'm not sure why. I tried deleting some older tables (which were copies and had about 38,000 rows each) but it hasn't made a dent. Is there a way to show all the database elements tables, forms, macros, modules etc and list their sizes so I can see what has caused the size to increase?
There are 3 tables linked via ODBC which have tens of thousands of rows but as these are linked I wouldn't have thought they would have increased the size at all?

I have a simple access database that 26 clerks in my office use to enter their weekly tasks. The database is split into a front end and back end, with the back end stored on a shared drive that we all have access to. We have been testing the database for 3 weeks with 5 clerks and no issues. This week is the first week that all 26 have used it, and immediately we encountered a problem.
I think the problem is happening because one of the tables in the database is linked to an excel spreadsheet. When multiple users try to use a dropbox that is linked to this table simultaneously they get an error message. I saved the excel file as a shared file, but this did not correct the problem.
I made a copy of the database before I split it. I know I can fix this if I import the excel spreadsheet into a copy of the database, link this table to the dropboxes, split it again, and redistribute it.
would like to leave the front ends linked to this spreadsheet, because we update it regularly. If not, we will have to have somebody update that particular table in the database intermittently.

I am writing a small database using MS Access 2007. I have in it a function for running queries and printing reports. Printing works just fine if any one of the multiple query criteria is give.
I also want to trap errors and present a message if the user clicks the "Print" button without a query criteria. At the moment I only get a run-time syntax error message which has a "debug" button for accessing the entire code. I want a message that will say "There was no search criteria".
This is the code for printing:
Code:
Private Sub cmdPrint_Click()
Dim varWhere As Variant
varWhere = BuildFilter
' Update the record source
Me.RecordSource = "SELECT * FROM q_Vehicles " & varWhere
[code]....

Is there an easy way to convert an old ACCESS db from version 2003 to version 2010?
My ACCESS db is .mdb and I want to convert it to .accdb as version 2010. It has hundreds of modules that may take awhile to export. Exporting is the only way I know to transfer from one db to another.

Using 2010 (accdb format) on windows 7.I'm trying to convert a memo field's format from Plain Text to Rich text. The problem is that every time I try to select the Rich Text format option the field immediately changes back to Plain Text.
Just as a test a created a new memo field in the same table and set this to Rich Text (worked fine) then copied the records for the Plain text memo field to the new memo field. Unfortunately this removed all line breaks so instead of my text looking like

I haven't done any testing yet on splitting the database I'm working on but a question came up today about networking.
This database is going to be used by a few equipment operators to record machine readings on the manufacturing floor. There is a wireless network and we are in the process of confirming that the wireless signal reaches all the areas. The users will be using ruggedized windows tablets to enter the data.
The BE of the split database will reside on a network drive to ensure everyone that needs it will have access and it will be regularly backed up. etc.
Since there is alot of heavy machinery, there may be some spots where connectivity will be weak or non-existent while they are entering their readings.
The question is how will the runtime FE handle it if connectivity is temporarily interrupted?

In Microsoft article 291264, it says "In a run-time application, the front-end and back-end databases must be stored in the same folder."Is that really true or am I misconstruing the article?I want to use runtime clients with a split back end on a share drive.

I would like to covert it to....
Customer 000462 000224
Name John Bill
SumOfSum.. 500 900

I don't think Access has any functions for this but I am not 100% sure. I know this can be done in a Module but I am not sure of how to code it.

I have created a db in which the front end has been distributed around the office and opened in runtime. The basic function of the db is to track current projects and contact between ourselves and clients.
When we have update meetings we use the large screen TV to view the db but it only takes up one small corner of the screen and is near on impossible to read.
I would like to know if there is any way that the picture can be stretched to fit the screen that it is being displayed on? Or would I have to create a separate version for the large screen so that people can read?

Access 2010 on both Windows XP and Windows 7..I have an application which USED to use a postcode address utility that created an Activex. I have removed all references in vba to the utility but Access runtime gives an error 'cannot create Activex' on my clients PC's (both with Windows XP and Windows 7).On my own PC the error does not show with either full Access or simulated runtime. I have tried decompiling the database and even using the old trick of copying the modules code into Notebook and pasting back, but to no avail.

When distributing a program using 2010 runtime, I find that the spell check doesn't work. Is there a spell-check .dll or is there anyway I can get a spell checker?I have several memo fields with long report-type data entry which is being keyed by mutants. Spell checking is essential to get an intelligible report.

I have a Access front end connected to a MS SQL database using a ODBC connection which is working fine of course.
When I compile it as a runtime version and install it on the business computer I get an error with the ODBC connection (I can't remember exactly what pops up). On the business computer I have installed SQL Native Client and in the ODBC added a System DSN (which works).

I'm creating an item look-up form with 2 criteria that I wan't to auto-filter as the user types. I'm placing my code in the Change event of the textbox, and only calling the .text for the current textbox (.value or no property at all for the other). The filter works smoothly and as intended until it returns no results in my table, and then it pops me with the error. I've tried forcing focus to the textbox in different places throughout the code, but to no avail. If I use the .value or no property for the current textbox, I'm not getting the CURRENT text, but the old text before it was changed, so the filter doesn't work properly.
Private Sub txtVendor_Change()
Me.FilterOn = True
Me.Filter = _
"((strSearchVendor Like '*" & Me.txtVendor.Text & "*' AND strSearchItem LIKE '*" & Me.txtPartNum & "*'))"
Me.txtVendor.SelStart = Len(Me.txtVendor.Text)
End Sub
It usually pops the error on the last line "Len(Me.txtVendor.Text)", but I've had it do it on the Me.Filter line as well (only when debugging and messing with next statement placement).

My office recently purchased Microsoft Access for our secretary to keep track of our contacts. No other employee owns Access so we have to distribute the tables through Access Runtime. However, there seems to be a problem.
I save and publish a database using the Packaging Wizard. I then send the associated folder with the install program to a computer which has Access Runtime installed on it. But, when I install the file I created with Packaging Wizard it just opens an Access window that is completely blank. It's actually the same thing that occurs when I try to open an Access file on a computer that doesn't have Access or Runtime installed on it at all.

I have setup a small application with front/back end in local network. On client machines i have installed access runtime. Although it works fine but it suddenly quit when there is any run time error while working on client machine. Although on server machine ( where full version is running it didn't close the application ).
What i need is an option to not quit the application completely. As i am not expert in coding of try/catch statements I need a simple solution for time being .
