General :: SQL Server Not In Dropdown When Linking
Sep 18, 2013
I have a windows 7 machine with Access 2000 installed. I need to link to some tables on an SQL server and "SQL Server" does not appear in the dropdown of available link types. I think a driver is missing. I did a clean install of Office 2000 and only selected MS Access. Maybe that prevented everything needed from being installed. I would like to add just the missing driver if possible.

I want to work on SQL Server tables located at my work place at home using Access. My question is; is it possible to link SQL Server tables on a server to my lap top computer using "Remote Desktop" or will I need to install Access onto the server and if tables can be linked using Remote Desktop how do I link them? I am using Access 2010 and have Windows 7 professional installed on my lap top.

Strewth didn't think I was ever going to work with Access again, but I am, so here comes a table link question for you.
Got an access xp FE linking to SQL server via a DSN file. All linked up fine, however the tables in access have been given a 'dbo_' prefix to the original table name in SQL server.
How to get rid off?
A setting in the DSN file?
Some VBA to loop through each table and rename?
Linked table manager which I haven't got round to installing yet?
Thanks
Dan

Hi,
Current situation:
We have various departments using a Db and some of the users have drive mappings to different to others (company reasons). So far we have had to create different front-ends for each section, not very useful for updates etc.
What I'd like:
To be able to link to the tables on the server using the server name and not a specific drive letter.
My question:
Is this possible some how?
Would using SQL server for the back end be a way of getting round this issue?
Thanks for any assistance as usual
Matt

Hi Guys,
I am new to this forum and I am hoping you can help. I have produced an Access 97 database on a PC on the hard drive (C I have sent this to a client but he cannot run it as the backend data files are in C: and he is running the whole access programme on the R: drive. As the front end is an MDE file is there anyway I could write the path to the linked files so that access can find them automatically. The same problem applies with the help files, how can you define the location of the help files when you don't know the end users server location?
Any advice would be most welcome.
Regards
Chris

I must create a database for the company that I work for that covers the maintenance history of our stone crusher plant. In this database I have two dropdown lists. The first one is for the equipment and the second one is for the different types of parts that has to be replaced or fixed.
Not all of the equipment uses all of the listed parts, but some parts are used on more than one type of equipment.
I have already created a database that lists all the equipment and another one that lists all the parts.
What I want to do now is create a Yes/No box for each type of equipment so I can mark which parts is used by which equipment.
Then you must be able to select the type of equipment from a dropdown list and then select from a dropdown list that only has the parts that is used by the piece of equipment.
I am using Access 2007

In Access can I link to a SQL Server view? I am currently linking to the
SQL Server tables in my database and don't have any views. But if I can link to views I could give the workgroup permissions in Access to the views, not to the primary tables. This would provide some added security from the user who bypasses my switchboard forms and goes to modify the Access tables directly.

I am attempting to link a table in one database to another database using the server name designation (ie.//2sxfprinff01Group) instead of the mapped network name (ie. G:). I tried relinking using the Access Link Manager. Right click on the linked table. But it does not let you edit the link.
Access 2007 does not allow this and reverts links to the G: drive. There are situations where the the IT department have set the mappings to this shared location as an H: for some of the employees. In those cases, the employee gets an error message telling them that Access cannot locate the G: drive.
An obvious solution is to get the employees remapped to the G: drive. However, one would think that MS would have allowed for mapping to the designated location and not an alias.

With Access 2000, for the On Focus event, typing Me!MyCombobox.Dropdown displays the entries in the drop down list. With 2007 the list appears momentarily and then disappears. Is there a way to keep the list from disappearing

Is it possible in access 2010 to create a table "Kits" with 4 columns: kit, lot, expire_date, in_use.
Then in a form use that table as a control source for dropdown box? However, if in the table in_use is "No" then that row is not a choice?

how I can hide a combo box or text box based on whether the form is opened in a filtered view or not?
I have a form that can be opened in a filtered view showing only that record, or an unfiltered view showing all records. I want an extra drop down selection box to show only when the form is in an unfiltered view.
I am using Access 2010.

I'm working on a database to organize and streamline the process that the manufacturing facilities in my organization use to request removal of defective product and raw materials. Currently all of the facilities send me their requests on individual excel spreadsheets via email, which are difficult to keep track of and report on since nothing is consolidated. What I've done is create a form in access that mirrors the current spreadsheet being used, so all the facilities have to do is enter the info into the access form rather than excel. The use of access is more for my benefit than theirs though, as it will keep track of the requests as well as make reporting on the request data much simpler.
When the facilities fill out the request form and select their facility number from a drop down list, I'm wanting them to be provided with a "Request ID" so that they may keep track of the progress of the request. The request ID should be a sequential alphanumeric value that includes the facility's three digit facility code, the last two digits of the year, and the number of the request. An example would be PL1-150001. The kicker here is that I want each facility to have it's own set of sequential numbers. So for example let's say I receive four requests in one week, three from facility 1 and one from facility 2. They should be assigned request ID's such as PL1-150001, PL1-150002, PL1-150003, and PL2-150001.

I currently have a button that opens a report. the report pulls from a query that has parameters set to "fromdate" and "todate". instead of using dates and parameters that pop up as blank text boxes, I would like to click the button, have a form pop up with a combo box to select all of the options available (currently 23 options) and then click a button to make a report that only displays the record (1-23) selected. I do not need any time constraints because as the databases get updated with more records, there would be more than 23 options to choose from.

I have a form where I have two drop down list box.The first list box is called Transaction_Type. It contains three values: Created, Allocated and Sold
The second list box is called Product_Status. It contains 6 items: Allocated, Produced, Reworked, Shipped, To Be Produced, Unallocated.
I have a products form. When a user created more inventory they will selected in the drop down list create, then a quantity. Then I would like the status of the product to update to "Unallocated".
When the user placed an order but doesn't finish it they will choose the status of the inventory to be allocated so I would like the product status to be updated to allocated automatically.
They other status the user will choose them self and do not need to be linked to each other.
In my vba code I have tried with the OnClick and AfterUpdate sub procedures with the following code.
If Me.Transaction_Type.Value = "Created" Then
Me.Product_Status.Value = "Unallocated"
End If
If Me.Transaction_Type.Value = "Allocated" Then
Me.Product_Status.Value = "Allocated"
End If
Yes when i select "created" from the drop down list it does not change product_status to say "unallocated"
(in using access 2007)

We have offices in other states that need to be able to open our data base. Due to the line speed it is extremely slow linking to our backend. Is it possible to have duplicate backends that can be merged, lets say over night or at the push of a button.

I have a database (Access 2003 and I am using it with Access 2007 with user level security) on shared folder on internal Dell server and I have created a shortcut to each user's machine to access it. This days I am facing a problem of db size as every 10 days it's increasing upto 2gb but the strange thing is when I am doing cut / pasting same database to my desktop from the server shared folder it will become 80 mb only and I am again placing that db (80mb db) into the server and it will work. What is a reason behind it? why my 80mb db is showing 2gb db on server?

My DB is split into BE and FE into about 5 Laptops. The DB is for entering personal information of pensioners.
sometimes it becomes necessary to take a computer away from the office to capture data of sick and aged pensioners. Now if you take the server (BE) out all the other clients (FE) will not work, and if you take a client out it wont work.
To solve the issue I decided to install a standalone version of the db in all the clients. If out of the network, the standalone DB is used and later captured data to betransfered to the server.
My question: Is there a code that I can use to check if my server is available to start the FE or if unavailable to start the standalone?

Any good program which will act as a B2B type gateway for MS access.
We currently have an access database which collects data and photographs of audits. This database is currently local and sends/receives data only whilst in the office. Ideally we'd like to do this over the internet by sending/receiving XML messages and somehow also photographs.

I've always practiced to keep my backend table names to no more than 8 characters because of speed issues. Can this also goes for the server name? My current location looks like this now orld71-testing-aFinance..I am wondering if changing the server name with speed or is that only for folder names.

I have a MDB file that I am unable to transfer to my online server (I get a 'critical transfer error' message. I am, however, able to upload other MS Access databases to the same server using the same FTP software. This points to a problem either with this particular database itself or my ASP code.
I have six fields, all text fields, with simple named columns (such as username, password, etc). In Design View.

I am currently working on an application where I am using MS access as my FE and working with linked tables to SQL server BE. I also have a few temp tables within Access that are not linked but needed.
1. What are my steps into making this into a SPLIT DB? I am assume the BE will have my linked tables from SQL and the FE will have my temp tables and forms. Is this correct?
2. Once I split it, then I can make an .ACCDE file for a Mulit User environment, is this correct?
What other steps should I be made aware of?
