General :: Search Form Additional Functionality?

I'm using Allen Browne's search form in an application for demographic purposes.

The form is working fine, but the user is asking for a new functionality. He wants at lease 3 state combo boxes so he can filter that [State] field for at lease three choices and the way it is build now he can only have one. I tried the following code (with the corresponding text boxes in the form), but it didn't, the result was no search at all.

In the Allen Browne's documentation he explains about using the AND and OR's and I tried a few combinations, but the result this time was no record found at all.

General :: Resurrection Of A Search Form Added Functionality

About a year ago I created a search form based on Allen Brownes Search model. Working fine, but the user wanted added functionality, see here, after a few tries the users didn't wanted the option anymore because they were in a hurry to deploy. But now their management is asking again for a wider scope in that state search.

I made an example model. It works fine, but only if I always have some value in the [State C] option, if left blank it won't work, a Run-time error 3075, will pop up.

I have tried many combinations of parenthesis, but, haven't got any luck.

Search Box To Use Contains Functionality

I have a search box running the following code on After Update. I would like the search box to use a contains functionality instead of its exact nature currently.

Ex. "Address Number" could be found by typing "Num". Currently I have to type "Address Number" in full exactly as it appears in my table.

File Search Functionality

I have a form that imports an excel spreadsheet and manipulates the data into a database friendly format. My issue is that I have hard coded the test file name in the DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet command.

What I would like to do is to allow the end user to go and click on the file and then have access pick up the file name and run the process. Is there some Active X control that allows the user to go search for the file they want to import? If so, is there any functionality to such a tool whereas I can have the user click on the file and instead of opening it, I can simply capture the file name to use in my module?

OR… does anyone have a better idea of how I might go about what I am trying to accomplish? I hope I explained my situation clearly enough…

how to create file explorer like functionality in ms access.

1 -I need to be able to browse files within specified directory and only. I can't alow users to browse any other directories.
2- I also need to be able upload (copy/paste) folders and files in that directory

I have a db with three linked (related) tables. I have a form that has, at present, only one of these tables as a data source. Now I want to bring a couple of fields from another table into that form.

I know how to link a table to two data sources when first creating a table. But how do I do it when the table already exists?

I tried Table Design View | View Properties | Data source,
but that allows only one data source. If I link to another, the first disappears.

How to link additional data source to a form

Hi All,

Unwanted Additional Recordset After Closing A Form

Hi!
Solution is maybe simple, but I don't know it!
When I put some value in a control (textbox) on a form, and after that if I close a form (by x button) that recordset is added to a table, but I don't want to do that- I just want to exit (close) the form! How to avoid adding that recordset to a table?
Same things happens when I, by VBA, set focus to control, assign some value to it, and just want to exit the form.

I need to add an additional filter to my unbound form and can't seem to get the syntax right -

I have a text field in my form "[B Style]" that has either a "Y" or "N"

I want to add a checkbox on my main form where, if checkbox=True then [B Style]="Y"

Id like to create a search field on a form, with a similar function to the standard Access 'find and replace' function. Only id like it to be alot more simple than the Access find and replace form.What i have is a Asset DB for the IT assets in the company i work for. We have a lot of phones, printers, computers and about 120 Laptops. The laptops are quite often reconfigured and given to new users, so the laptop details dont change but the user and software config does. I need to keep track of what software is installed where, for licensing reasons.

What i have is a simple form with the laptop name, serial number, operating system, software, location etc etc. What i would like to be able to do is, type a laptop name into a Txt field, hit a search button, then have the fields of the form populated with the laptops current config and then be able to edit the details from inside the form. ive tried using a combo box but i have more than 20 fields that need filling, so anybody whos used the 'me.txtboxname.value = me.combobox.column (1)' may know that you can only use 20 columns.

The default Access 'Find and Replace' system works fine but i dont want users to have to use it. I also dont want them to have to navigate through records using record selectors.

I'm developing a program to search several fields. One of which is a memo field with large characters. Using wildcard in the search form I made, it only returns the record if the first word of the field is typed in the search box. I want to type any word in any part of the field to return the record.

This is my code

I am creating an access database to store customer details as well as quote information. I have created a form to input quote details that our office can complete when a customer calls to complete a quote. I need to create a form that opens as a new form every time we click on the form to input a new quotation. How do I do this? At the moment when I click on the form, the form opens but the details of the last quotation are stored on the open form.

I have no training in access at all and am self taught so far so by no means an expert.I also want to create a form that allows you to search for particular quote numbers, so if someone calls and asks about a particular quote number we click on a page that says 'search quotes', input the quote number and the form opens with all the details of that quote.

It works without the "setFocus" for the Listbox except it jumps to a record after the very first character is entered instead of narrowing down as characters are typed. If I leave in the "setFocus" I get run-time error 2110.

i orginally thought i should do this in excel but i think when the dataset becomes larger and i want to eventually get it on the web - i thought its access i need?

i have created a mini dataset as an exmaple of what im trying to explain..i have in first column the objects, and columns after this are the elements needed to make the object (i have just labelled the element titles a b c etc - there will be LOTS of elements once i get the dataset created). so if i had a red blue green cream elements - a search would bring back both lights and lamps that i am able to make.

is there a way of creating a search lookup to this kind of information? a form which you type the criteria in and it brings back what you can make? if i was one element away from an object could I use a wildcard function to say, if you had black you could make a house?? etc

ALT+Tab Functionality

We just started using Access 2007 in the past few weeks (upgraded from 2003). One of the functionalities that we are missing is the ability using the Alt+Tab to go directly to an open table or query under a specific Access Database that is already open. Now I can only switch between open Databases and then I have to use my mouse to Toggle between open queries/tables etc. Is there a setting that would allow this, or is this functionality just gone? (I am still using XP, but the functionality is not there on Vista either)

Losing Functionality

I am building a database for a client that tracks construction drawings. The client came today to check on progress. Just before he came, I changed the start-up properties to hide the database window, menus etc so it would look more like the finished product.

Problem was, I lost alot of the functionality and had to change it back to demonstrate:( . Is this common and can anyone explain why? much appreciated

I want to have a program where the balance of an account is always updated and stored in a column. In oracle I would use pl/sql, does Access have a similar capability?

Also I want to be able to add and subtract date types, for example, to get entries from the last month. Oracle date type can do this, does the Access date/time datatype do this?

I have a search form that uses a query to show results of a search, but everytime I press search everything comes up even though I have entered search parameters, even though my search requeries every time and the search used to work before I added new records today. Also when I press the query alone on the navigation pane it asks me for the parameters and then it actually works but it won't when I use my form.

Implementing Authorization Code Functionality

Hello Access Gurus,

Our application can be broken into several modules, and we want to be able to shut off all modules, but then activate them by entering an Activation/Authorization code for each module.

The issue is that I'm fairly new to Access, and have never done this type of functionality. Is there anyone out there that has done this and can give me some guidance? I would greatly appreciate it.

Functionality 2000 To 2003 Opening.

Hi experts in MS Access!

Need to know if I can open a MS Access 2000 (large) mdb-file in MS Access 2003 Professional without loosing any functionality? Is there a working way around this behaviour of MS Access 2003? It seems now, when comparing from MS 2000 openings some functionality got loose when I open the same 2000 file in Access 2003. Working environment is MS XP professional and all security patches for Office 2003 Pro and XP are applied.
