General :: Show Loading Message While Database Is Opening?
Oct 23, 2012
I have a split database with multiple users. Since I split the database, it runs slower than the unsplit version. I understand this happens. I would like to have a message pop up when the database is loading. It takes approx 2 mins to load. Users get impatient and start clicking. So, I wanted to have a message pop up to let them know it is opening.
I have the same problem with forms loading, I have 5 forms and each takes about 4 secs to load, so thought about a loading message there too.

I have designed a DB in access 2010 and it opens fine on my computer. However, when others I work with (who still have 2003) try to open the database, they get the following error: "An Error Has Occured Trying to Load The Form "Form Name" - Do You Wish to Continue".
When I click Yes, it brings up all of the VBA code in the background, but when i close all of that out, it still doensn't open.I am by no means an access expert.

I was exploring using User-level permissions on databases so I, the admin, can have full permissions to edit/change etc. the database and certain users can only add/edit data. But I inadvertently have now set Access to ask me for a password for any db I open. Even if it's my own personal one. Can I set up Access to only ask for login info on certain db's, not all. I know that 2010 did away with User and group level permissions but was able to add it back through customizing the ribbon and adding this feature back to it.

In the database that I use at work sometimes when we OPEN it we get an immediate error saying out of memory, therefore we close it and reopen and all is good.
This is a problem when the average user logs on as they don't close it, they just continue on and then start experiencing issues.
I thought that the memory was supposed to clear when you close the database.
We run the debugger and no errors are ever found, we also run the compact and repair.
This can happen 1 in 10 or maybe 20 times when we open the database.

I am having problems opening my databases. Access automatically opens them in 'Read Only' mode, and I cannot find a way to avoid this - so I can never add data to the original tables ....

Normally when I hold down the shift key when opening an Access database it opens in development mode. When I do this on a certain database it does not. It still opens in program mode. If I hit F11 it goes into a sort of development mode but I do not get the ribbon bar at the top etc.
Has something been set on this database to stop it opening in development mode? Can I switch it off?

Is there a way to open an Access Database from a batch file or VBS file wait for 20 seconds and then close the Access file. Preferably I would like the Access file to run in either invisible or minimized mode. I would like the Access Database to close again after the 20 seconds has elapsed.
(The reason for this is so that the Database can refresh itself from Sharepoint on another users machine so that the excel reports on his machine are up to date).

In my database there are fields of type Date/Time, their default value is set to now(). But the problem is that those fields are automatically filled up by English system date. I want my own country's date format, without changing my system date format. So I decided, whenever database is opened it should ask for a date, so the user will give today's date and that date will be used automatically on those fields.

I routinely export queries etc from my development database to the 'live' master database used by users. Every so often I get the error message 'The database Mydatabase.accdb is read only'. Then I can't export anything to it. I don't know why it should suddenly become read only. How do I make the database changeable, and not read only?

I have created a Db in MS Access 2010 and under Options > Current Database I have done the following:
- Used drop down to select a form I want to display on opening
- Unchecked display navigation pane
- Unchecked allow full menus
This works how I want it to, perfectly. I then send it to a client who also has MS Access 2010 and when they open the file the form I have told it to open doesn't open, the navigation bar is displayed (with the form I want to open highlighted) and the full menus show but are locked.
What's going on? Is it some security setting the client has that isn't letting the opening procedure execute properly?

I am creating payment database for a community gym, the data will be created on a data sheet.
There are 2 payment types monthly and annual (these are on a dropdown box with their own id number).
I have a joining date and a paid date, but reflected against the payment type ie 31 days or 365 days.
I have been trying to do something along the lines of:
if [monthly] (is selected) (so this would call up a 31days) date() is > [joining date] then give message to renew and same kinda thing for annual.

I have a .mdb file (access 2003) which has ballooned in size to 1.2GB and I'm not sure why. I tried deleting some older tables (which were copies and had about 38,000 rows each) but it hasn't made a dent. Is there a way to show all the database elements tables, forms, macros, modules etc and list their sizes so I can see what has caused the size to increase?
There are 3 tables linked via ODBC which have tens of thousands of rows but as these are linked I wouldn't have thought they would have increased the size at all?

I have been tasked with creating a tool to analyse mobile phone bill data and present the analysis, and our recommendation, to a customers. Being new to Access (other than basic tuition) this has been a slow uphill task, which is finally nearing completion, however there is a problem which I have not yet been able to overcome.
The requirement is for the DB to open first on a splash screen (lets call it Form A) with fancy picture where our customer is selected from a combo box, the customer is then telephoned, a linked computer screen is established and our staff then click "Go" to proceed to a second form (Form B) showing an account overview and more details.
The problem I have is when "Go" is clicked, the second form loads via on click event, and even populates the correct customer in its combo box. Unfortunately that is as far as it gets - the combo does not look up the information. The customer needs to be selected again for the subforms and subreports to load with the customer overview. To clarify, form B just sits there blank until the customer is re-selcted from the combo box in form B.

I have tried on different forms using more than a few different methods to make recordsets happen and to no avail. My current reason for needing to use recordsets is because I am loading a form with information from different tables. Instead of using multiple DLookups, opening the recordset only looks for the information once, speeding up the load time on the form.
Code:
Dim Rs As Dao.Recordset
Set Rs = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("PreviousTRRetrieval2Query")
If Rs.RecordCount > 0 Then
ProjectNumber = Rs!ID
Agency = Rs!WitnessAgency
FileNumber = Rs!FileNumber
That is the start of my code and I keep getting an error, 3061 Too Few Parameters. Expected 1. Now when I run the query I get the results I desire, which is all the information I need at this particular junction. I am using Access 2010. Why I may not be returning any results for my recordset when the PreviousTRRetrival2Query returns results on its own.

I wonder how MS Access manage to show long list of records when we want to browse them in Datasheet view.
1 - Does it load limited amount of records on start-up and then load the remainder upon user interaction (scrolling for example)?
2 - Does it care about such things automatically or natively?

Hi there,
i have a field called numbers - i need to throw a messgae box alert if the value within taht field reaches or is 5. I have records so if within any of these records if the number field contains say 5 then it should show john's number has reached 5. So it must read the first field name of that record and teh number field of the record.
I've been trying to use the macro tool - but no luck yet.
An start would be just to show that the number field has reched 5 without showing the first field record i.e. john not shown.
Anyone have any idea how i could do this.
