I have a database i have been working on (access 2007). In the past I have been using a list box to select records. Now I would like to use the datasheet view or split form view. Everything seemed fine until I moved to linked tables.
My problem is, with the same query, the listbox is lightning fast at changing the recordsource.
When I change the recordsource on a datasheet view or split form, it takes... ages and shows "Calculating.." On larger recordsets it freezes access.
On occasion my access database all of a sudden begins to operate very slowly, I notice the queries take a much longer time to run.
Last week it suddenly began to operate very slowly after idling in excess of 30 mins
Today when I change the screen to design view and then back to form view once again it begins to operate very slowly. (yesterday was working fine on my desktop at home, I have not made any changes to the database with exception to saving and using the file this morning on the shared drive at work) If I shut down and re open it operates well but once again changing to design view causes the same issue. Sometimes compact and repair rectifies sometimes not.
I have seen that in some sample db's rightclicking the mouse showed the menu with an option to check or uncheck the dataview option, unchecked the formview was applied, but when i 'just' import the subform, i cannot find somewhere the possibility to change from dataview to formview.
Maybe someone can help me with this, probably very simple(?), question?
I have a form which is opened with a filter from another form. For some reason it views the form in form view, although it was set up as datasheet view. I even went to the form properties and the default was datasheet and i made it not to allow other views. This still didnt solve it. I want it to be in datasheet view because i want to show multiple records at the same time.
If u kno how i could resolve this please offer ur help
When I had a subform (continous form) I had a code which check, that record was used in other form, if yes, then code not allowed to delete this record, if not, record was deleted. But now I have a datasheet form, and the question is, What should I do, to have the same results what I had in continous form.
Now it doesn't matter that I past this code in "Before Del Confirm", "On delete", "After Del Confirm", this code doesn't work in this view of form. Always if I click (right button) on record, then i choose "delete record" MS Access delete my record without checking that was used in other form or not.
Code: If Not IsNull(DLookup("Id_Gora_Zlecenia.Value", "TblDolZlecenia", "Id_Gora_Zlecenia.Value=" & ID_gora_zlecenia)) Then MsgBox "You can't delete this record because it is used in another form" Exit Sub End If DeleteRecord Me End Sub
DeleteRecord:
Code: Public Function DeleteRecord(ByRef f As Form) As Boolean DeleteRecord = False On Error Resume Next DoCmd.SetWarnings False If Not f.NewRecord Then DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdDeleteRecord
I have a subform that is in Datasheet view. If I open this subform on it's own, the Date Picker works for the Date field. However, if I open the main form with the subform on it, the date picker doesn't work? Nothing happens when I select a date on the calender.
I am displaying table records in access form Datasheet view. While business users accessing that form, they are hiding and rearranging some columns for their use. So it will be hard for other users to access. I just want to know any settings are avaible in MS Access or can we accomplish this using any events or macro or modules??
I'm using a split form with the datasheet on the left.
When I use the 'Find' in the Navigation buttons at the bottom of the form, it refuse to find text in a particular text box.
The text box is a memo field and is enabled.
Example:
I have text in the memo field which is a title of an episode - "The Outcast."
When I start typing "the" it finds this text in the memo field. But when I type the entire title it the finds the text in another field. ie "out."
I've tried the 3 different Search setting in options. When I use the Find command from the ribbon it work ok as long as I select the text box to search in first.
I am pretty new to VBA and I am having the same problem of hiding and un-hiding columns on a datasheet of a split form. I am building a system that will be used in front of customer and therefore wish to hide columns that contain cost sensitive data. The same forms need to be able to show the Sales Rep the hidden columns simply by ticking a box. Basically a toggle on and off of hidden columns.
I have been playing around with the code below (which i found in another forum) to hide the Field called COO when I click the tick box called chkHIdeFields check box. This works on a Single form but not on a datasheet of a split form.
Private Sub chkHideFields_Click() ' Note: vbTrue = -1 If Me.chkHideFields = vbTrue Then Me.COO.Visible = True Else: Me.COO.Visible = False End If End Sub
I have been able to hide the column of my split form by using the ColumnHidden property of the On Load event just as a proof of concept that the ColumnHidden property actually works to hide a column, which it does. This is the code that im using to hide the column called COO.
Me.COO.ColumnHidden = True
However if I then set it to = False and then close and open the form, it doesn't unhide the column. the only way I can unhide the column is to do it from the Form view via the un-hide dialogue pop up box.
I have two issues here, the first one is getting the form to recognize when to hide and when to show the column of the datasheet on the split form and the second is to get the code to for the check box method.
Lastly once I get it working for 1 field I need to be able to define a list of 7 or 8 other fields all at the same time.
I have a split form (frmPatient Schedules) that shows me my records in the datasheet view at the bottom section of the form. My records have a field with a checkbox (ckbxHOLD).how can I get the records that don't have their checkbox checked to be copied as new records to a different table (tblHome Visits)?
I have an Access 2003 db that works extremely well as a stand-alone application but I am keen to “split” it so that many users can operate it together.
Accordingly I did the split and placed the tables on our server, and tried running the front end locally.
Much to my horror, it takes about a minute to open, and many seconds to do anything after a button press etc.
I have been testing it on my wireless home network and the same thing happens, except now I can monitor network activity from the “network working” light.
What I see baffles me and would welcome comments, in particular, what I can do to speed it up by a factor of 100!
1.It takes forms about 50 seconds to open; however, this is due to about 40 seconds of network activity BEFORE the form’s load event fires! 2.In DESIGN mode, any minor change to a control for example, results in about 40 seconds network activity. 3.All queries upon which forms are based take well under a second to run over the network. 4.Making an mde file has no effect.
I thought the idea of splitting was to keep the forms/queries/code etc, local to a machine so I don’t understand what all the network activity is about, particularly in design mode. Also, given the actual queries are so fast, just what is Access doing??
I have a split form on my database where I have my combo boxes bound to a primary key but they display the description field so it's much easier to understand. Is there a way to do this with option groups? In other words, I would like the datasheet part to display the option group labels rather than the values so it is easier to understand.
How to correct the issue below. I created a split form and I have 2 combo boxes that allow multiple selections. The one combo box for LOB (line of business) works perfect and does not create duplicate records in the datasheet view of the split form. The 2nd combo box with multiple selections creates duplicate records in the datasheet depending on how many selections are made.
I have checked this in the underlying table and there are no duplicate records, it is only in the split form datasheet. I have checked settings and configuration between the 2 combo boxes that are reacting differently and they appear to be identical...
Is it possible to create a split form with spreadsheet view on top and when you click on any field in that line it shows a regular form with field information below?
I was hoping to get a little advice as to my problem. I have a database with many, many reports, forms and queries. I wanted to split the database to secure the tables and important data. So I use the database splitter wizard and ever thing went just fine. So now my database1 looks into database1_be for all tables.
My problem is: my program now runs very slow. The slowest seems to be when I am adding a new record. I can live with the slowness of retrieving an existing record. I do not have a server nor can I afford one at this time, so currently I am running a peer-to-peer network with the database1_be located on one of my computers second hard drive.
Is there something I can do to help speed things up? Thanks Enviva
I also posted this in the report section, but it doesen't seem like the readers over there have any answers. I'm hoping maybe query people will. I'm working on someone elses database, and I'm not too familiar with access.
He's got this form called Customer_Select, and when you click on a check box for a customer, it's option value is recorded in a field called Product, which then corresponds to the product/customer id located in a table called CustomerCharacteristics.
The problem is that I just realized that this Product field existed. When I view the form as a datasheet, I see the fields: Product, Lot_Nr, Version:, and Last Update: However, when i look at the field list for the same form in Design view, I get: DateTime, VersionDisplay, and Description.
Does anyone know what's going on here? I need to reference the Product field in a query I'm modifying, but the expression builder can only 'see' the fields that are visible in design view.
Well, I couldn't find this using the search, so here it goes:I have a form in which I enter data to create a new client. Within that form I have a subform in datasheetview which is based on a query which holds/retrieves certain (important) fields from a table that holds case info. So in that one view the client data is displayed on the form and all cases and the most important data from those cases is displayed nicely in one screen. Now, when a client calls I navigate to that client and see all previous and all current cases that are open and/or closed for this customer. So the customer says case this and that number is the case I need to discuss with you. Now, what I would like is to be able to click or double click anywhere on the line that, for instance, says case nr 55, so that the form(s) belonging to case nr 55 pop up and all info concerning that case is displayed and can be edited as needed. My problem is: I'm still a newbie and if it was a simple thing like using the on_click event to open the form that's needed, I would not have to post this question. But that can't be done (as far as I know) since the subform is based on a query which is displayed in dataview.Am I overlooking a very simple solution to this problem or is it really going to be as difficult as I think it's going to be?For clarification of the idea I have included a screenshot of the form in question. I assume there are tons of databases out there which use such a layout or idea as this one. Please, never mind the buttons etc. It is still a work in progress. ;)
I've created a Navigation Form and one of my tabs brings up another form bla bla but what I want is to bring this form up in datasheet view...is there a setting for this or due I have to create a query to get the look that I want?...
The Form that I attached to the tab when opening it up by itself (out of the Nav form) comes up in a datasheet type format, and when I open it up in design view it changes from the datasheet type format to texts boxes stacked on top of each other. This is also how it opens up in the Nav form...
Does it have to do with how the form I'm putting in the nav form was created?...style wise...
how to hide the the 'Details' section in my form when viewing it in Split Form. I tried to use
Code:
Private Sub Form_Load() Me.Detail.Visible = False End Sub
but that just makes the Details section look blank, as oppose to not having it there at all.
have only the Form Header and Datasheet visible in the Form View of my form. Similar to the 'Contact List' form in the Contacts Template that comes with Access.
In a table I have three fields 1. City - which is a combo box linked to a query, 2. State - a text box, 3. postal Code - a text box
When i put them on a form I use the info selected in the City box to populate the info in the State and Postcal Code boxes.
The Control source for the city is SELECT tblPostcodes.ID, tblPostcodes.Pcode, tblPostcodes.Locality, tblPostcodes.State FROM tblPostcodes;
Then on the form i put the control source of the state box as =City.column(1) and Postal code as =City.column(3)
This works fine on the form- and the information is retained - but the datasheet view of the table does not record either the State or the Postcode data that was entered. Is this because I put the control source on the form and the table is not recognising it? if this is the case how do enter it from the table?? really confused...
I have a form with a query as rowsource. When I open the form in data sheet view form header is not showing(Though it is visible in form view). Is it possible to show the form header in datasheet view?
