General :: Slow Searches After Update To 2010 Data?
Apr 16, 2013
I have a big application, which we updated to Access 2010 a month ago. It ran fine. Then we also just updated the data from 2003 to 2010. Now we have very slow searches of big tables/queries, and the tech says that 'cpu usage on the server has gone to 100%'.
What can be happening? Nothing else has been changed except that the data has been updated to 2010 accdb.
Is it possible to have a value in an excel 2010 cell be used to update an access 2010 db?
For example, if in a spreadsheet "test" cell A2=3 then in a db "test" a column "value" is 3. However, if the value in the spreadsheet changes so does the db.
I have an Access crosstab query that I have exported to an Excel Spreadsheet. I have the spreadsheet formatted using conditional formatting and I'd rather not have to reset it every morning. It's a single spreadsheet (the columns/rows will not deviate greatly day to day) and should be very simple, but I'm not getting it for some reason.
So if I have "Test.accdb" and it contains "qryX" as my crosstab and "Sheet1.xls" is my formatted Excel spreadsheet, how do I code for the latest "QryX" to go in and replace the old "QryX" data in "Sheet1.xls" ?
I have a form with two tables referenced. I am using the form only to update one of the tables. I am using the other table to pull a reference field. When I add my second table using the query builder, it makes it to where I can't edit/add in my form. I assume its because of the SQL insert statement, but I don't see this statement and can't find where it is to edit it. How to have the form only update one of the tables, while just using the second table as a reference for a field?
Exporting data from a table or query, into Word 2010?
I've googled the crap out of it and the only thing I can find is mail merge...which as far as I can tell is used for creating letters and mailling lables or emails.
What I would like to do is click a command button on an invoice which would export company name, province and date, into an existing word template, save it as a new filename, and then close.
I have a MS Access 2010 application when the User opens form CONTACTS Form
◦User finds single record to be used CONTACTID is identifier to be used for selection ◦User clicks button to open form frm_MAIL_MERGE ◦Frm_MAIL_MERGE has a drop down combo box that reads the folder location where the application resides and displays all .DOTM files (that is all template files) and one more combo box which contains the CONTACTID. ◦User selects single .dotm file for merge ◦Frm_MAIL_MERGE has either drop down to select CONTACTID or UNBOUND data field for user to type in CONTACTID number ◦User enters CONTACTID to be used for the mail merge ◦User selects SUBMIT ◦Application merges selected .dotm file with the information in table CONTACTS for the selected CONTACTID ◦Merged document is saved on the user Desktop as xxx.docx
I wish to work in Access 2010 with a subset of my Outlook 2010 contacts (all desktop- no network barriers), so I am exploring the Desktop Contacts DB found in Microsoft's templates. It passes contact data back and forth using the standard macros, but I wish to add more fields from Outlook. It seems I need to find the code associated with the macro. I believe I can solve the problem using a Linked table, but am wondering if there is another solution?
Calendar synchronization is another issue. Linking gets me to the Archive Calendars, but not the Current one in Outlook which is what I want.
I'm new to Access programming. I want to setup an Archiving/Storage Database which contains data of boxes with folders in it. The data would be the box number, begining folder, ending folder and box description (See Below).
[BoxNum] [FromRange] [ToRange] [BoxInfo] 123456 10000 10100 Case File 123457 10101 10954 Batch File 123458 11234 11545 Case File
I would like to setup a database that once the data is entered a user can open a form and search for a folder like 10054 by entering it in to a field like [SearchBox] and search the values between [FromRange] and [ToRange] and retrieve that boxes information 123456.
My membership database has worked fine until recently. Now I cannot save inserted data. On attempted saving "Update or CancelUpdate without AddNew or Edit" appears.
The problem. relates to 2 tables Member and Addresses. PK in the parent table Member is ID. In the Addresses Table the FK is ID. There is a One to One relation between the tables and Referential Integrity is set. I know 1 to 1 is not good but it worked fine in this small database.
I'm doing the simplest little 'INSERT INTO' type operation here with recordsets in Access 97 (SR2). Inserting into a table whose name is stored in the Const TABLE_CANDIDS.
I have a little piece of code that doesn't move on until the changes are committed to the table (usually this is just a single long integer being added).
The transaction takes up to a second to commit, and sometime doesn't commit at all. I tried putting begintrans and committrans around the loop but it seems to make the problem worse.
Can anyone spot my error?
Thanks, Rob
' Empty the TABLE_CANDIDS table then start filling it with the current ' list of Candidates DoCmd.RunSQL "DELETE * FROM " & TABLE_CANDIDS Set rstCandIDs = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset(TABLE_CANDIDS)
' Find the CandIDs for all selected items (default to select all) For Each objListItem In objListView.ListItems If objListItem.Selected Or Not blnSelectionOnly Then rstCandIDs.AddNew rstCandIDs!CandIDFiltered = CLng(objListItem.Text) rstCandIDs.Update lngCount = lngCount + 1 End If Next objListItem rstCandIDs.Close
' Wait for up to 1 second until the new value(s) are committed. Screen.MousePointer = 11 datStart = Now() Do While IsNull(DLookup("CandIDFiltered", TABLE_CANDIDS, "CandIDFiltered <> 0")) If DateDiff("s", datStart, Now()) > 100 Then Exit Do End If DoEvents Loop Screen.MousePointer = 0
I wonder if anyone could offer some advice on a problem with a form & subform?
I have a main form, based on table PublicationOrders: POrderID (pk) EventID(fk)
And a subform, EventDisplay, based on table Events: EventID (pk) EventName
The main form and subform are linked on the field EventID and my master and child links are correct, as far as I can tell.
The field EventID on the main form is a combobox, bound to field EventID in the table PublicationOrders. It allows the user to select which event an order is being sent to. In the Afterupdate property of this combobox, I have the code: Forms!PublicationOrders!EventDisplay.Requery
I would like the subform to update to show the details of the event that has just been selected from the combobox. However, for some reason, on afterupdate, the subform displays whichever event was selected when the previous record was entered. If I close and reopen the form, it will right itself and show the correct event information that corresponds with the order.
Any ideas why it's doing this? I have searched here for a solution but can't seem to find anything that relates.
How to update data from one table to another table using form.
I have data coming from design team in Database 1 and using form i want search data and assign the job to a person and store it in the database with his name. I have to do this because database from design team is read only.
UPDATE (tblAFFIRMATION_REC_TOOL LEFT JOIN tbl_TZero_Spns ON tblAFFIRMATION_REC_TOOL.CptySPN = tbl_TZero_Spns.SPN) INNER JOIN Entity ON tblAFFIRMATION_REC_TOOL.ReferenceEntity = Entity.ReferenceEntity
SET tblAFFIRMATION_REC_TOOL.[Scope Reason] = IIf(IsNull(tbl_TZero_Spns!SPN) Or (Entity!Test='EM'),tblAFFIRMATION_REC_TOOL![Scope Reason],'TZero Trade')
WHERE ((([tblAFFIRMATION_REC_TOOL]![Scope Reason])="Affirmation Eligible"));
the way it right now, it's running for about half hour.. Could that be IIF statement that slows it down ?
I'm wondering if anyone has any idea how I can speed this form up. I have similar forms that don't calculate as much but are much faster when updating the date.
Basically, I have a make table query that pulls all units due to be delivered between a certain time period, that are a specific priority and we input how many days we want to push the delivery date back.
A form opens that shows the Job Code, Run, Door Style, Special Color, Lot Delivery Date, W/O Due Date, W/O Start Date and a Change check box. If the Change check box is selected the W/O Due Date moves back however many days entered. Based on the new W/O Due Date and whether or not a Raised Panel door or Special Color was selected the WOSD resets as well.
Here is the code I have used. It takes a little over a minute to update 1 line and we may need to move several lines. After all the units needed to move are selected, an update query is run updating the information in the actual tables used in the make table query.
Private Sub Change_Exit(Cancel As Integer) If Me.Change = True Then Call UpdateWODDChange Call UpdateWOSDChange End If End Sub
Private Sub Form_Close() DoCmd.OpenQuery "qryUpdateWODDPriorityChange" DoCmd.OpenForm "frmMenu"
I have a database i have been working on (access 2007). In the past I have been using a list box to select records. Now I would like to use the datasheet view or split form view. Everything seemed fine until I moved to linked tables.
My problem is, with the same query, the listbox is lightning fast at changing the recordsource.
When I change the recordsource on a datasheet view or split form, it takes... ages and shows "Calculating.." On larger recordsets it freezes access.
On occasion my access database all of a sudden begins to operate very slowly, I notice the queries take a much longer time to run.
Last week it suddenly began to operate very slowly after idling in excess of 30 mins
Today when I change the screen to design view and then back to form view once again it begins to operate very slowly. (yesterday was working fine on my desktop at home, I have not made any changes to the database with exception to saving and using the file this morning on the shared drive at work) If I shut down and re open it operates well but once again changing to design view causes the same issue. Sometimes compact and repair rectifies sometimes not.
I have a db that is having some strange speed issues on some very basic queries. Objects that have a rowsource/recordsource with a SQL statment in particular are really slow to populate. Likewise on deactivate/activate the report query seems to reload. I've put breakpoints in every object event with no stops out of the ordinary, and nothing seems unusual.
While I know MSysObjects is a user read-only table, I came across some records that reference objects that no longer exist in the front-end. Is this table cumulative? Is there any way to purge the deprecated records? I tried to turn on then turn off autocorrect features hoping that would trigger it to repopulate, but no luck.
I'm thinking this may be the source of the issue. Perhaps if it is looking for an object that it can not find (especially the ~sq_ unsaved queries) then it's looking to the wrong place on a lostfocus/activate/deactivate or similar event.
Some history on this file, it has been through many versions of Access starting with 2003, which I think is part of the issue as well. Shy of looping every object and replicating the read-write properties, I'm not sure where else to go with this.
I'm having trouble with access. Basically it has been very slow to load (over 30 seconds when not opening a database) and when opening a database it just crashes.
Has anyone any idea what could cause this as it worked fine before ?
I have data in all sorts of tables and databases that are linked together through different systems. I'd like to update some of the information automatically in the evenings or in the middle of the night without needing someone to push a button. Is there a way to do this?
I have a table "Customer Plans" with 100s of rows of data with 3 columns
'Name', 'Company', 'Plan Type'
I want to create a new column or table "Customer Details" with the the column name 'Customer' under the following criteria:
If the data in 'Customer Plans.Company' Column meets a certain criteria as in = "Corp&Gov" or "Head Office" or is "blank", I want it to populate the new column/table "Customer Details.Company" with the corresponding data in the 'Customer Plans.Name' column
e.g. if Name = Anna B Company = Corp&Gov then Customer = Anna B
I want to populate 'Customer' with Anna B for that record and so on down the list of data in 'Company' column.
If however the 'Company' column doesn't meet the criteria, I want to populate the new column/table 'Customer' with the current data in 'Company'
if Name = Anna B Company = Dealer then Customer = Dealer
I have a date field with dates stored as MM/DD/YY, ie.10/13/09 and I want to use an UPDATE statement to change the year from 09 to 2009 but keep the 10/13/. The issue I'm encountering is when I use a wildcard in the SET portion it takes that as literal and updates with the wildcard. ie. Set Date = '*2009' WHERE Date LIKE '*09' updates the column with *2009 as the entry and not 10/13/2009. How can I update my field so I end up with 10/13/2009, not *2009?
My problem is I need to know if the execution of the SQL statement was successful or not. I use the RecordsAffected method, but it always returns 0, no matter what.
I have a database to track temporary decertification's. I have the expiration and max dates calculated out from the original dates at the top of each box. The temp expiration date is calculated by adding 267 days from the first date . When we enter an extension, the new expiration date is 30 days from the extension date. My question is, how can I make the expiration date update when a new extension is put in.
For ex.
Temp Decert Date: 05 Dec 2014 Temp Decert Extens 1: Temp Decert Extens 2: Temp Decert Extens 3: Temp Experation Date: 31 Aug 2015 Max Temp Date: 04 Dec 2015 how can I make the expiration date update to go 30 days from what is in the extens field 1, 2, and 3 (respectively) instead of 267 days from the original date? So I want it to look like this after updating a field Temp Decert Date: 05 Dec 2014 Temp Decert Extens 1: 30 Aug 2015 Temp Decert Extens 2: Temp Decert Extens 3: Temp Experation Date: 29 Sep 2015 Max Temp Date: 04 Dec 2015
Any issues with using Access 2010 to edit an mdb file..I know there are backward incompatibility issues with 2007 and 2010, but these are both accdb formats.
