General :: Sum (column) In Footer On Continuous Form Not Updating?
May 19, 2014
My form is setup with Continuous view, with data feeding from a table. The structure is straighforward (excel style). AgentID, workHrs, holidayPaid, holidayUnpaid, sickHrs etc. The structure is not normalized, and I know the risk. This is basically only for human interpretation, not really a structure that will cause instability or patched up working of the DB.
I have the continuous form view, so it can be viewed in one single display, I have placed a Totals at the footer, which is populated by nothing but a simple = Sum(columnName). This works great in most of the computers, except one. My boss's computer. Which is where it actually needs to work. I am baffled, because I have tested it on almost every single computer in my office, everyone's work. Just his computer is playing up. I am unable to pin point the problem. The status bar keeps going "Calculating..." but even after giving it a solid 5 minute it does not seem to work !
I apologise if this question has been answered elsewhere but I have tried looking and can't find anything that helps. I'm in the process of upsizing an access database to an adp front end and a sql server back end. One of the forms in my original database was a continuous form with some calculated text boxes in the form footer. One for example had the formula =Sum(IIf([field1]="valueA",1,0)) which worked quite happilly.
I've now changed my forms recordsource to a stored procedure which works fine, however none of the calculated text boxes in the footer of the form work. I have read that complex expressions might not work in adp's and that I should use CASE instead of IIF, which I've done. I've taken the iif part of the formula and added a calculated field to my underlying query so all I need to do in the calculated text box is an =sum([aField]) but I still get a #Error. Even if I do a =count(1) or something really simple like that I still get #Error.
I have a form that is displayed continuously and there is a text field in it (Text12).In the footer of this form I would like to add a textbox that is the sum of all Text12's on the form.I tried =Sum([Text12]) in the textboxes control source but that is just displaying an error when I run the form.
I have a continuous form that is using a select query to populate all of the bound controls. The drop downs and text boxes are displaying the values from the correct places. But, the form is not updating in the places I expected.
The select query that is being used to populate, combines information from 3 tables.'TimeEntries' table (the one that I want records to be updated in). This holds employee ID, and numeric values for Project Name and Project Task.
'ProjectInfo' table (nothing should be updated here). This table holds other details about the project (ex. Project Name) that is used to populate a combo box. 'ProjectTasks' table (nothing should be updated here either). This table holds details about project task (ex. Task Description) that is used to populate a combo box.
The issue I am having is that when records are updated on the form, they are adding records to all 3 tables that are a part of the query, instead of just updating the time entries table.
Record Source (form) = Select Query "EmployeeTimeEntry"
Combo box on continuous form should have the control source listed as the field on the form that will be updated. The Row Source, however, is a query that includes 2 things: the field on the form that will be updated (this part will be nonvisible in your form) and the table/query of selections you want to show up in the combo box (visible). Then ensure the Bound column is set to 1 and the Column count is set to 2 with Column Widths as 0";1"
I have a form listing tasks to which I make personnel assignments with a multi-value list field type. It takes some time to select from 15-25 employees on the list for each task, especially considering that small groups of employees will be assigned to the same selection of tasks.
What I want to do is select multiple records with the mouse, then click a command button opening a form in dialog mode with the selection list. The user then clicks to make his selections and clicks ok, which then updates the multi-select field for the selected records.
I have some reports which lay my data out perfectly. For example,Report headerPage headerDetailsPage footerReport footerNow, I'd like to have exactly the same layout on some forms but with various buttons, etc. for manipulating data. The only problem is that when I put something on the form footer, it appears at the bottom of the viewable screen area no matter whether the detail area should overrun or not ?Is this due to form size or something else?Ideally I'd like to have it appear right at the bottom of the form and allow the user to scroll down the form to see the footer.
I'm trying to set up a sum field in the footer of a continuous forms form but I'm stuck on the code. The field is amount and I need the sum field to show the total of all the records on the form.
I'm building a database to control projects of new products for a company, the flow is easy:
-Step 1: Record the general information in a main table (db_master_info) (i.e. project name, description, date of launch, etc.) - Step 2: Record the product codes in a detail table (db_units) (i.e. product codes and quantities) -Step 3: Record monthly information like, production and sales forecast in the detail table (db_units) -Step 4: Build a monthly stock equation(production minus sales forecast) and record a comment, in a comment table (db_comments), about the results.
The steps 1,2,3 and 4 I did successfully!
The step 5, I'm unable to think outside of the box!
I drew a sketch (form_stock and comments.jpg attached) that might be a possible solution...
Use a continuous subform with a unbound textbox with VBA to load record and edit/update???
I have a continuous form with a button(delete). on click event I want to delete a record on another table. I though about doing this via a delete query. The sql is below:
I m having a subform in datasheet view. whn i use a join query as the record source for the sub form, i am not able to add or update any record in the datasheet. Is there anyway to use a linked query as record source of the datasheet with editable property.
I have a single column table which is created by set of queries, the data type is of memo, the single column table is a merge of a table with multiple columns by adding a space between the columns.
This table is then exported to the txt file, i want to add header and footer which appears exactly on the position after exporting as of now the header and footer is occuring in between the table data.
i have developed an access database and working on interface through forms & reports .i needed that a user must have to click save button to update the data and i have found that without an unbound control its hard to achieve functionality .so i want to know step by step how to update records using unbound controls and a save button .
I need to create a text file that is exported from access to txt. I know how to do this; however, I need to have a header and footer setup in this file that dynamically changes with the day. How do I create these two required objects?
I want to refer field "plyty_sa" which is in "RaportZleceniaRobocze" Report, in "RaportRobocze_Offset" SubReport. The problem is that, SubReport is in Report Footer. I tried many possibilities but I can't find solution.
Managed to export a table to csv file. The problem I now have is I need to add the following Text at the start of the file:-
H,LKJ85485524,DE
and the new last line :- T,whatever the record count is,2
Whether this info is added before or after export is not important.
I have even resorted to using VBA to create an Excel spreadsheet and saving to csv.
Thought this had cracked it however I had surplus commas at head and footer where the original csv file had additional columns (ok manually delete these comas) ,then found that the end of each csv line was missing a final comma that is needed by the recipient of the file.
If I have a Query, and I want to list the sum of one of the columns of that query in another text box on a form, is this the correct way of doing it?
=Sum([Drivers Other Shifts].[Duration])
In this case, "Drivers Other Shifts" is the name of the Query, and "Duration" is the column header. When I try this I get #ERROR, so if it's just that something else is wrong, or that my expression is the wrong way to go about it...
I have a listbox on a form that looks up a table to to allow me to pick a stock location. The table only has 2 colums in it, the Primary Key Field (ID) and the Store location. When using this in a a form instead of getting the Stores Location, all I get is the ID. I have tried changing the Bound Volumn Value and the Column Count Fields, however no change.
I am building a Inventory Management Application for Tyre Shop. I have SaleMainTbl and SaleDetailTbl both used for preparing daily sale summary. I have Mainform based on SaleMainTbl with TxnDate and Total Amount (Sale) and the TxnDate is in one to many relation with SaleDetailTbl. FormSaleDetail is multiple row(continuous) form that makes billwise summary of each day having -TxnDate--BillNo--ItemSold--Company--Qunatity--Rate--Amount fields. I have inserted this form in FormSaleMainTbl.
So FormSaleMainTbl is Main form and FormSaleDetail is subform. TxnDate in FormSaleDetailTbl is automatically taken from SaleMainForm. I have further added text boxes in Main Form to show company wise sale for each day for which there is a query build one for each company that takes the currently loaded date from FormSaleDetail and calculates the Sale (Sum) of each brand (Company) of Tyres. All these objects are working very fine. However I have to close the MainForm and reopen it for result of query to appear in the appropriate text box in Main form.
Is there way to do this as soon as record is entered or at least at the end of completing the entry of each days sale transactions without closing the form. So the gist of the problem is realtime display of query result in text box on a form or updating the form screen immediately on updating any record or at the most after completing the updating of form but without having to close the form.
What I am trying to do is put a subform within a subform. The trouble is I want both forms to be continuous forms.
when I put the subform within a subform, access comes up with the following message:
************************************************** ******************** A form with a subform object cannot have its DefaultView set to Continuous forms.
You tried to add a subform to a form in design view. MSAcess will reset the property to Single Form. ************************************************** *********************
which it does my higher level form becomes a form only showing single records at a time whilst the subform is a continuous form.
I have a database containing 10,000+ trouble tickets identified by a unique field called "Ticket ID". This is the primary key for my table. (It's on just one table.) These tickets came from an excel sheet that was exported out of a different database. (For various reasons, we've moved the tickets to access.)
Among many descriptor fields, I have a field called "SPR Type" that shows what type of ticket each entry is. (Bug, Defect, Enhancement, etc, etc) The problem we have here is... not all of the ticket entries have an SPR Type listed on my access table because not all of the tickets coming out of the original excel sheet had one.
I was given a new excel sheet containing 400 to 500 ish Ticket IDs and the SPR Type that applies to each of those tickets. How can I take that sheet and use it to update my access table? Ie. Use the excel sheet containing Ticket ID and SPR Type to populate the blank SPR Type fields for each of their respective Ticket IDs?
**Update: I'm trying something like this...
UPDATE [SPR Priority] inner join [EB Update of SPR] on [SPR Priority.Ticket ID] = [EB Update of SPR.Ticket ID] SET [SPR Priority.SPR Type] = [EB Update of SPR.SPR Type]
But I am getting an error that says "Invalid Bracketing of name [SPR Priority.Ticket ID] and similar errors. What am I getting wrong here?
I thought about an Update query that would populate the SPR Type fields based on Ticket IDs. I could import the new excel sheet into a separate access table and update from there.
i have a subform that has a field that has this (=Round([TotalHoursPoss]*[PercentField])*0.27) in the control source. the form is set to Continuous Forms. it then have a field in the form footer that i need a total of what ever numbers show up in the field from above. for example.
field=41 field=41 field=32
form footer:
total=114
but every time i try to put this "=sum([BudgetedNumberofSales])" in the field in the form footer it gives me an error.
