General :: Unable To Modify Pivot Tables / Charts
Feb 11, 2014
When I start my database normally, I'm not able to add fields, change chart type, etc, by right clicking in a pivot chart or table. It works when I open the database while holding down the shift key though, so I suppose there is an option in my database somewhere that I have changed, but which one.

a co-worker set up several pivot charts in queries, that we now need to get into a distributable format. I had envisioned having these in a report, but access doesn't agree. Is there any way of getting the chart out of access, intact, to place in a word or power point file, or into a report? My attempts to get the chart into a report have all ended with the table-like grid coming up. Surely there's a way...
thanks!

I work at a program where we have individuals try out for a field (coming from various backgrounds). The program has been in place since 2012, and I wanted to start looking at the data for analysis and comparing trends, etc; I imported our master file (excel) into Access. It's in one big table, column headings include roster number, name, gender, type, FY (fiscal year), and finalcode (Select, Non-Select - but put it in as 1 or 2 in the field)).
I created a query, and was able to get data I was looking for.I then set it to Pivot Chart (bar graph).
Bottom (Believe its X) Axis: I have Type, Year.
Right Side of Chart (TypeCodeNumber)
Top of Chart: Count of CodeNumber
It gives me the totals (whether select or non-select) just fine, but I have been racking my brains, watched tons of YouTube videos and read a lot on how to make it give me a percent. I found a way to go Percent on the left side of the bar chart, but the Values go up to say 3300%. I know the problem is with the Count up top.

I am trying to create a form on Infopath 2007 based on a table in access 2007. I want my users to be able to fill in this form and submit it back to me in such a way that it will directly populate the table in the database. I know I can do this. However, I am unable to modify the infopath that access 2007 creates from the table. I want to change the date format. By default it takes up the date as "date and time" and I want it to be the date only.

I have built a database and within it my queries I use for reporting make tables in a separate database. This allows me to work in my data base and update info as needed. My problem is that my make table queries wont run if anyone has one of the report pivot tables open. I have added macros to all the Excel files that pull from the reporting DB but I still have several times when I cannot update because someone is using the pivot table, Is there a way to allow me to update the report DB's while the pivot tables are open? I have tried using manual refresh methods and disabling auto update on open but the result is the same.

we are moving our database from access 2007 to access 2010. I have a query where the results are shown in a pivot chart. when i try to add field items to the pivot chart, the chart goes blank. It works fine in access 2007. none of the columns have illegal characters in them and i tried recreating the form from scratch and that didn't work either.

I am having trouble arranging my data from a record row into a query that will give me columns for the pivot charts that I need. My guess is that I need some sort of a complicated SQL statement, and I know almost nothing about SQL. I have expressed the problem better, and with graphics, here: http://www.olypen.com/bhardin/RGB/RGB.htm. I would love to hear the solution to this aggravating  problem.

OK, I tried to see if this was possible but not finding much of an answer. So I figured I'd check with our merry band of experts if it even is.
I'm using Access 2013 and I have a database I would like everyone to be able to see but only those that have a password to be able to change data.
Is there a way to even to do this? A code somewhere maybe?
I've been able to find the option to make the whole database password protected but that's not what I'm looking for.

Is it all possible to create the equivalent of a combo chart in Excel in Access?
What I need is a graph showing a certain dataset as columns but also a line showing the average for that set.
As an example lets take an exercise programme in a school, each child performs a series of exercises every week and data is recorded, to monitor their fitness progression.
Lets say I wanted to show a graph of one particular exercise, with the class students listed along the x axis, and then show the class average for that exercise dataset as a line on the same graph.

I have created a series of pie charts in reports based on queries. The data that is being charted are agree, strongly agree, neither agree nor disagree, disagree, and strongly disagree. I want the colors for these to be consistent in all the pie charts but they are coming out different colors on each chart: i.e., agree may be blue on one pie chart but yellow on another pie chart. How can I change the colors either in the pie charts or legends so that they are consistent on all the pie charts?

So a while back I created a database which I use to keep track of my companies large list of products. It is very simple only 3 tables, 1 query and 1 form. After running into a problem with copying and pasting updates on each computer in the office I decided to split the database on a network drive. This worked for a bit, however I had to add new fields and modify the form, which corrupted the file. Luckily I had a backup before the split.
As far as I could tell all I had to do was modify the backend file and make a new front end. However it seems like it is not as easy as I thought it would be. How do you modify a split database without corrupting the files or using a non-split copy?

I have an Access Table with about 28,000 Automobile dealerships across the country shown. I've joined a new/small phone contact table to this to keep up with our phone contacts with the dealership and followup efforts. When I search/filter on the dealership table all is fine. However when I search/filter on the phone contact table with a few test entries, I get nothing at all. I supposed that after joining the tables, I'd be able to do a search on the field named follow up date and find/filter today's date or other dates and locate which dealerships to contact when the correct date arrives. But nothing.

I have been asked to design a database to replace our old excel sheet to log one of our customers server builds. It a four noded system and i require a seperate log for each node serial models of parts etc, qa checks.
I intitial started by just using one table but forgot the limit was 255 rows, i need about 600 - 700. So my plan is now to transfer to indivial table for each node. Then, a general table named Main for all my other details.
Although this seems simple, i now have the annoying task of being able to link them all together and produce a single PDF file to send to our customer whilst only entering our system serial number once to produce this.
My basic understanding will be to create a System Serial Number field in each table a link it via relationships, but if i produce a report with everything i need would it input my details for all four nodes? If so how would i set this up?
I will be splitting the database once completed and then making a ACCDE file for my techs to use.

I am completely new to Pivot Tables/Charts?
Basically i have two totals:
Value 1 which is the number of working Employees
and Value 2 which is the total number of Employees
Both are subject to change but my main problem is that Value 2 (Total of Employees) i want to display as 100% in a chart and Value 1 is the percentage of employees utilized.
I have the calculation working fine (Value 1/Value 2).
But if for example i have 35 employees as Value 2, how do i make that show as 100% in the chart?
I get things like 35 or 3500%?
I have played about endlessly changing values etc but just cant get it.

I have made a database where i plan the company's resources in form of hours. The idea is that every employee will put in their own data for the upcoming 4 weeks. I do this in a table where i store employeeID, weeknumber, year, PlanneHoursUsed, ActualHoursUsed.
This again i take into a pivot chart to see a forecast for the next month.
I have somehow achieved to get up a graph where i for every month can see the sum of all planned hours and all used hours (See attachment). BUT; my boss wants to see a running total instead of a "weekly image". On the graph attached one can see the numbers for every week. But i would want to see instead a running total.. For instance week1 then week2 would be the sum of 1 and 2, week 3 would be 1 ad 2 and 3 and so on. So the graph would be inclining throughout the year.
Is this possible with functions with my current data? Or do i need to have another field in my table where i store a running total? (This would be tricky when we get a lot of data and when somebody changes an old value...)

after building a database in Access 2010, I am having a hard time with something that seems relatively simple.
I am trying to create a bar graph PivotChart with 2 different values associated an individual axis. While I can get the data into the PivotChart, I can't seem to make it stop overlaying the data. This is problematic because it causes one of the bars to be behind another.
Is there a way to make this data stack up side by side rather than on top of each other?
I've already tried changing the chart type, made the data separate groups, overlap is set to 0.

Hi there,
I've developed over the past 3-4 years a database holding data relating to workload figures for my place of work. It has grown to a large size (eg. one table holds 1-2 million records). I've been trying to run a particular pivot table based on the sql query below:
SELECT Tests.Test, Year([DAUTH])+(Month([DAUTH])<4) AS FYear
FROM Sets INNER JOIN Tests ON Sets.SET = Tests.[Set Code]
WHERE (((Sets.DAUTH) Between #4/1/2003# And #3/31/2007#));
When I try producing a pivot table using the above query it takes forever - has it running for over 8 hours last night - then access closed down with a runtime error. Does MS access have a problem with large databases? Is there any way I can improve the efficiency / speed of access with a download add-on? Or, will I have to resort to using something like MySQL on a LINUX OS which has fewer demands on system resources when using large databases.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks for reading.
