General :: Viewing As User Would See Database Forms?
Nov 3, 2013
I want to develop my database and forms to fit a 1600 x 900 resolution screen and would like to know, whilst I am in the Developer mode of Access 2007, is there a key that I can press that will switch to display the database/forms so that I can see what the User will see?
I used to have a handy tool called LDB Viewer or something like that with which I could see who is using my database. Now I've upgraded to MS 2010 is there a way to do the same?
I have a multi user database in Access 2000 that is on a server. The individual users have shortcuts pointing towards the server instance. One user and one user only when opening the shortcut gets the error "you do not have exclusive rights to the database" .
All other users can enter the database with no error box. I have checked the advanced setting under options and they are correct. Ironically if you go to start and open access then navigate to the database shortcut. It opens with no error.
I'm having trouble viewing values that exist in table 'tblTest2' to the user. The first set of code (below) doesn NOT work. Yet the second set of code (all the way at the bottom) DOES work. And by work I mean that it erases the old values and only puts the tblTest2's new values. The first set of code has values but they are not the right ones. The second set of code has the correct values for its statement...
Code:
strTable = "tblTest2" 'Table for storing values for viewing purposes DoCmd.DeleteObject acTable, strTable 'Delete tblTest2 old values CurrentDb.Execute "CREATE TABLE tblTest2 " _
I created a database for multiple users, it seems only one user can be in database at a time. Is there a property that allows multiple users to simultaneously use database. My record locks property is no. Is there some other property that needs to be set ??
I have developed an access database, and prepared its run time exe file. My question is how to develop the database so that the user can regularly backup the database?
I have some Databases that were created back in Access 97 and have managed to upgrade these databases to work in Access 2013, fixing any modules and forms which broke when upgrading the databases.User access and permissions within the database were controlled by User Level Security (the Workgroup.mdw file) which is not secure anyway I guess, as someone could easily copy the entire database.
The database as it stands now works perfectly in Access 2013, however anyone can do anything with the database which is my main issue. Im wanting to limit access for certain forms / tables / reports to certain users, then out right deny other users from accessing the database.
Ive seen the SQL Server 2014 Migration Assistant for Access, which looks to store the tables on SQL server then map these to the Access database, so i guess i could deny certain users from accessing tables that way, or only allow them to read the tables. However I'm not sure how that would lock them out of certain forms / reports and queries in the databases?
I have a database whereby users already have to sign in with a username and password, using a form which them allows them to view a front page. The front page allows them to access data and add/amend it.
I now have to adjust this setup as we have directors who want to view the system, but we don't want them to amend it.
Is there anyway to change the current setup that I already have or do I have to scrap it and start again?
I am developing a database for a company with about 10 users of the DB each using the DB on their own PC/Mac.
The workplace does not have a network. All work is done and stored on their own computers. They do not have a server either.
They do have a BT Business Hub providing broadband both wired and wirelessly.
The database is built using Access 2010.
I need to set up user groups/permissions on the database so certain staff can only see certain forms/tables etc...
What are my options here?
There is money available to buy a server or whatever. But ideally if there is another way of storing it and doing it, then I would like to give that a try.
I was reading somewhere you can use the Hub to create a small network, is this possible? And if so, whats the set up process for this?
In my database there are fields of type Date/Time, their default value is set to now(). But the problem is that those fields are automatically filled up by English system date. I want my own country's date format, without changing my system date format. So I decided, whenever database is opened it should ask for a date, so the user will give today's date and that date will be used automatically on those fields.
I am looking to design and create a user interface for my database. Preferably hiding the standard access interface and upon opening the database have a pop up form with buttons to direct users to forms queries.
I have created a database and made the steps to the user-level security and VBA protected the project but i lost the passwords and the MDW file.
is there any way to reset the VBA pass then reset the security level?
this is very important for my business it's a school database with lots of info and it's critical for me to update or at least export some reports and forms to a new project
Im seeking for a solution to prompt all user with windows alert for Notification
Case 1:One staff applied leave and clicked "Submit" , after clicked I want the system will prompt his/her Supervisor for his/her leave approval or like a notification that the Supervisor need to go somewhere to approve (Selected Supervisor)(Maybe the Supervisor need to 7x24 Opening the access database).
The front end has been saved in a accde format and distributed to 20+ users. They have all saved this onto there computers and this is used as an application. The users complete a form on a weekly basis on the application and then save. This then saves into the back end.For some reason I have noticed that a few users submission randomly do not save. For the life of me I cannot understand why.All users have saved them into the back end in the past but every now and then submission for users do not save.
I have a Access data base (2007) which i splitted and store the back end database in a file server where all users have full control and the individual copies of front end put in the users computers. Unfortunately when one user is using the programme, others can not use. Following error msg appears. Both back end and front end are running under shared mode ( not exclusive ).
"Could not use xxxxxx_Be.accdb; file already in use."
Twice a year, a database of mine is accessed and put too use by various staff within a time range of 1 week. the database is on a shared drive and in a location which can be accessed by all.
The staff access the database from different workstations and in some instances at the same time.
This has only led to issues in the database being copied and then confusing staff on what database to click on thus i have 2 databases which i then have to sift through and copy/paste into the correct one.
I want to know the best way i can:
1) Prevent multiple users accessing the database at a time. 2) making a copy of the original and typing into a separate database.
I have a database that has a main form, and from that main form there are buttons that open their respected forms. I am curious as to how I control the size of all of my forms. They are all pop-ups at the moment. It all works fine on my monitor, but when opened on a smaller monitor it is too big and I can't even see the bottom of the screen. The main form is set to open automatically after the user logs into the database and it opens to fit the screen. also, all of my forms are modals.
Hi all, I have done a multi user database for a private company (and thanks to all those that helped me out) but now I need to do another database to put onto the Internet so the general public can view it and order the products. Obviously some of the database needs to be private (so I can update records) but some needs to be viewed over the Internet. I would like the general public to be able to view the products over a web page, not download a program to view the database.
I have made the database already so I can pull up a web page (from within access) and order the products - all I need to know is how to do this over the Internet?
I don't expect anyone to hold my hand through this, I just ask if anyone has a link to a walkthrough so I can do this?
Regards, James
PS Have another question - I have 17, 500 records and I wish to add a new Field, how can I change the values of the Field without going thorugh them one by one? e.g If the Record has 'Rarity = U' then I want the 'price' (which is the new field) to equal 1.
I have a split database with the back end on a sharedrive. I have the front end saved on my own drive and the same for my colleague.
When I view the front end version of my colleagues, I can see a records on there that she has input but I can't see them when I open my own copy of the front end plus when I view the back end I can't see the records there at all.
I am building a database in Access 2007 that needs currently includes images and excel files as embedded OLEs. I am aware this is not ideal, but I can't change my employer's mind.
I've been looking in to the Attachment data type but am having trouble deciding if it will work as a substitute for my purposes. I know a variety of image file types can be displayed inside Access on forms and reports, but I can't find anything about displaying the contents of an excel sheet. I read something about using Active X controls to display .pdf images - is there anything similar for Excel?
I am very new to access and have a question which I think is very easy to answer. What I have is an access file with a listing of companies, their contacts and what services we provide for them. (each company/client/service is listed in a row with each new set of information on the row below it).
What I am looking to do it to create a data access page that anyone in our office can view. I want the access page to have a text box where they can type in the name of the company, then click a 'search' button. That will then display the results in a box below everything. The results would be the contact and the services (there are other columns in the datasource as well, but I didn't list them).
If anyone can shed some light onto my problem it would be most appreciated!
My db is split into front-end and back-end. In the f-e's Relationships schematic, I can see the relationships as they were defined at the time when the db was split, complete with the one-to-many symbology.
I can add a new table to the b-e and set its relationship as one-to-many, enforcing referential integrity and cascading as I wish - and the schematic (in the b-e) reflects that.
In the f-e, I can then use the <Get External Data - Access Database> function to link to the new table, and I can add the new table to the relationships diagram in the f-e. I can also drag and drop to link primary and foreign keys (within the f-e), but cannot select one-to-many. I'm OK with that, as I understand that the relationship is within the b-e, and this is just a diagrammatic representation.
But I can see the one-to-many relationships between the tables which existed when the db was split, and I would like to be able to see the new table's relationships in a consistent fashion. Updating the linked tables via the Linked Table Manager does not do the trick.
Surely I don't have to split the database again in order to achieve a consistent diagram - do I ?
need information in form to write to report before accepted and saved to separate table, so operators can read it. background:manifest information entered into form in receiving office, analysis ran in lab and then entered into form. When analysis is approved, Operators unload material then truck checks out in receiving office. Need to see analysis before it is written from load_temp table to Load table.
Is there a way of allowing user to reference/update from either databases ? If user enters an item code and it is not found in database A, can the program direct it to retrieve/update from/to database B ? Assuming database A and B are item databases with different contents.
