General :: Why Does OpenRecordSet Fail On Linked Table

Jan 16, 2013

I split my database into a FE and BE to simplify the upgrading of the clients copy. I had a chance to implement that change today and except for this error all seems to be well.

The error is "Invalid Operation 3219 " and flags this line of code "Set rsTable = dbsCurent.OpenRecordSet("Import650tbl, dbOpenTable, dbAppendOnly) " when the error is triggered. The table Import650tbl is a temporary holding table to which I enter imported records. I then add some supporting information and then the records are added to live data table for further processing. After the data is added to the live table the information in the Import650tbl is deleted by a query to be ready for tomorrows processing.

This error prevents the process from working. I got around the problem by deleting the link to the BE for this table and creating the table in the FE. After that all was well.

Question: Why does the above OpenRecordSet fail on the linked table?

General :: Break Points In Code Module Fail To Work

Oct 16, 2013

Does your Tools Reference have an MS Office 15.0 Object Library?

Just had to share this strange occurrence in the VB Code Module:

I use breakpoints all the time, was just using them yesterday.

Noticed that some events seemed to act differently this morning. The front-end was approaching 88 MB (after compress) so it is time for a change anyway.

Created a new blank Access dB (Access 2010) and imported all objects from my last backup revision. Reset the home page and tools References. Matched the settings side by side. As usual, the database shrank from 88 MB to 60 MB. The import all objects will usually compress things about this much.

From the screen shot, put breakpoints in previous code, added a new Lost-focus event and added a message box. None of the breakpoints work. The message box fires on the lost_focus and all of the code in the Click event works fine. But, not a single break point would work.

Totally powered down and restarted the Windows 7 32 bit Enterprise workstation. Still no change.

Took the screen shot of Tool-References from the code module of a two week old archive version. Used it to evaluate my new imported object database. To my surprise, the Microsoft Office 14.0 Object library is now Microsoft Office 15.0 Object Library. Also put all the objects back in the same order. Saved and closed the new imported object database. Now, the breakpoints work just fine.

I had failed to reference the Office 15 Object Library and the VBA Extensibility 5.Office 14 Object Library is nowhere to be found except on my 2 week old backup archive.

Is this a Microsoft auto update? Is this what drives the breakpoint in the code module?

General :: Copy Data From Local Access Table To Linked SQL Server Table?

Jan 13, 2014

I have an MS Access accdb with linked SQL Server 2012 ODBC tables. I am working on a procedure to copy data from local tables to these linked tables (identical schema). I did a simple

Code:

DoCmd.RunSQL "INSERT INTO linkedTable SELECT * FROM localTable"

This works, but is very slow. Way too slow. (INSERT copies the data one record at a time).

I would like to copy the data in a bulk operation, or operations that I can execute programmatically.

Apr 1, 2015

I have a database that is designed with a front and back end, with the FE linked to the BE. Some potential customers want to play around with the database, and the easiest way for me to get them access to it would be for me to combine the FE and BE and just give them a copy of that. how to link a table, and I know how to import a table. What I'm unsure of is how to cleanly convert a linked table to a local table.

General :: Linked Table Manager Looking For Old Table Name

Jun 20, 2014

I have a database that is used in our office. It is split with the backend stored on a network share.

I need to make some updates, and to do maintenance I usually make a copy of the frontend/backend to my desktop, and use the linked table manager to switch to using the local copy of the backend so I don't mess up the main data. All good so far.

however, I recently added a new table, and originally called it "overRides", I then decided that "adjustments" was a more suitable name and changed it.

Now whenever I try to switch from the main backend to my local copy I get a message when relinking "adjustments" that Access cannot find the object "overRides" and to make sure it exists and the name is spelled correctly...

I have been just deleting the linked table and reimporting "adjustments" but this issue keeps coming back and it's driving me nuts!

How can I make Access forget that this table used to be called "overRides"?

General :: Adding A New Record To Linked Table

Aug 5, 2014

I have several tables that are linked that I need to be able to add to. This is an example of the structure:

Patient Info
ID
FK_Ward - ID of Ward table
FK_Room - ID of Room table
FK_Cond - ID of Condition table

Ward
ID
WardID

Room
ID
RoomNumber

Condition
ID
Description

Unfortunately, its not the exact one as I can't post that here! What I am trying to do is to add a new patient record using information from the other tables as guides - e.g. the user selects the name of the Ward but the ID in the Ward table is entered, the User selects the number of the room but again the ID in the Room table is entered, and for the Condition same thing. So I would like to have dropdowns (or ComboBoxes) for each of these and based on the user's selections add a new record to PatientInfo using the ID values as links.

General :: No Start Or End Time In Linked Table Using Outlook Calendar

Aug 5, 2015

I created a call logging/work tracking type Database using SharePoint 2007 lists for the backend and Access 2013 front end for about 60 users and it has been running smoothly for around two years .

We use a shared outlook calendar and I want to be able to pull meetings & appointment information into the database from the calendar so I can assign the meetings out to specific people and keep of a record that they where given the request to attend. I was able to use the import outlook folder to create a linked table and it has lots of great information from the calendar apart from the two most important things you need in a calendar Start_time & End_Time . Is there something I'm missing in regards to these two fields? I assume I'm doing something wrong but I can't figure out what, nor did I have much luck with the Search function on here or google.

This is the list of field names it does import(everything apart from the meeting time and is it a recurring appointment)

Combo Box Based On Linked Table Needs To Pull Info For Sub-Form From Non Linked Table

Aug 31, 2007

I am trying to build a Form that will show an estimate (then eventually will be moved to a project if customer and employee aggree to price and project) in a Form F_Estimates is a M_Customers(Customer_ID) (Based on a Table) and thier info in a Subform. Also is the "projected costs" from parts out of the Parts(Part_ID) (Based on another Table) in a second Subform as a list that I need to calculate $$$ in
(Dang that still sounds evil and definately NOT understandable even after edit... so)

Here's some basic info

Tables

EstimatesandParts - Table
EstimatesandParts_ID : Autonumber
Estimate_ID : Number
Part_ID : Number

Parts - Table
Part_ID : Autonumber
PartNumber : Text (not a number due to some part#s have letters in them)
PartName : Text
Unit Price : Currency
Description : Text

Estimates - Table
Estimate_ID : Autonumber
InvoiceNumber : Text (again can have letters in it)
EstimateDate : Date/Time
EstimateTime : Date/Time
Employee_ID : Number
Customer_ID : Number
ProblemDescription : Memo

Customers - Table
Customer_ID : Autonumber
FirstName : Text
LastName : Text
CompanyName : Text
Address : Text
City : Text
Province_State : Text
Postal_ZIPCode : Text (CDN Postal codes are letter num letter...)

you can see the link table in the EstimatesandParts Table

Now I want to use that link to populate a subform in the F_Estimates form

Forms

SF_Customers - SubForm

(all boxes atm are text boxes on this form till I figure out the Parts section then will use same base for this so I can pick any customer in the database to be the customer for this estimate. Also will have ctrl button for making new customer with customer form and a refresh on Focus Gain bit of code)

FirstName
LastName
CompanyName
Address
City
Province_State
Postal_ZIPCode

SF_Parts - SubForm
Default View -Continuous Forms

(want it to be a list of parts that I can grab prices and descriptions from then in a bit of code to calculate a cost of parts)

Part_ID : Combo Box
Control Source - Part_ID
Row Source Type - Table/Query
Row Source - SELECT Parts.Part_ID, Parts.PartNumber, Parts.PartName, Parts.UnitPrice, Parts.Description FROM Parts ORDER BY Parts.Description;

(Pulls info from the table Parts for input into a list of parts to be used on that project)

PartName : Text Box
UnitPrice : Text Box

(here's where I run into problems due to the fact that the form is not based on the parts table but rather the link table EstimatesandParts so I can't propogate the info to the 2 other text boxes, ps I dont care if they cant be text boxes and have to be linked or some other type I'm not "set" just need to find out how to make it work )

(have tried a couple things to complete this task)

Me.txtPartName = Me.Part_ID.Column(2)
Me.txtUnitPrice = Me.Part_ID.Column(3)

(works AWSOME ... for ONE ROW then propogates the second selection to the first and second and third selection to first second and third and so on ...)

(tried to make control source for the txtPartName to)

=Forms!Parts!Partname

(Doesnt exist .. akkk, cant use ActiveForm either as it doesn't focus on the SubForm but the MainForm ... cry)

F_Estimates - Form

Estimate_ID
InvioceNumber
EstimateDate
EstimateTime
ProblemDescription

(all basic Text Boxes)

Employee_ID
Customer_ID

(Combo Boxes Select Customer and Employee from list of present ones of each)

SF_Customers
SF_Parts

(Both SubForms on the main form)

Now this is an Exerp from my entire Database I like to work on one small problem at a time and I have made this its own little database till I figure out the problem then I will bring the info I learn back into the rest of the database and go from there ...

Hope you can help I have a feeling I will need to make a recordset and go from there but I'm just not able to wrap my head around that for some reason

Thanks in advance for ANY and ALL help that I get from here

General :: Forms And Queries In One ACCDB File - Path Setting To Linked Table File

Oct 5, 2014

I've got the forms and queries in one .accdb file and my tables in a separate .accdb file. The forms file links to the tables in the tables file. The tables file resides in a folder called simply enough C:acc_tables and thats where i browsed to (obviously) when i set up the linkage.

One of the users does not wish (for whatever goddamn reason) to create a C:acc_tables file to stick the tables file in , and wants the tables file in some other folder.. Unfortunately this user does not have the skills to delete the existing links and re-link to the tables file after putting it in the folder he wants.

Where in the file that holds the forms and and queries do i find the path setting to the tables linked file? Can it be changed without deleting links and then re-linking?

Problem With OpenRecordset And SQL Statement

Jan 10, 2005

Hi there,

Hope someone can help

I am opening a recordset like this, where strDatabase is an SQL Statement

Set rstDatafile = dbDatafile.OpenRecordset(strDatabase, dbOpenSnapshot)

SQL Statement =[tblName] ORDER [Name]

It opens and everything is seemingly OK. However I then run a loop that deletes records as per a set of criteria. If I run this on the same unaltered table I get different results each time. It's almost like the SQL statement is not ordering it the same each time.

Am I doing something worng or is there another way to open a table order it's contents and modify it?

Thanks for your time

How To Set Query Parameters For Use In OpenRecordset

Sep 13, 2006

I’ve the following query definition “selOrders”

PARAMETERS [DateFrom] DateTime, [DateTo] DateTime;
SELECT * FROM Orders WHERE OrderDate BETWEEN [DateFrom] AND [DateTo]

I want to open this query as a DAO.Recordset but have problems to assign values to the parameters. I tried different possibilities but invain. My latest try was as follows:

Dim QryDef As QueryDef
Dim Date1, Date2 As Date
Dim Orders As DAO.Recordset

Set QryDef = CurrentDb.QueryDefs("selOrders")
QryDef.Parameters("DateFrom") = Date1
QryDef.Parameters("DateTo") = Date2
Set Orders = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("selOrders")

During execution error 3061 (Too few parameters, expected: 2) occurs.

Openrecordset Error 3061

Nov 18, 2004

I am trying to open a recordset object using a reasonably complex query. The query uses other queries to get data and some of these queries are totaliser queries (I dont know the proper terminology but they are the ones that group and sum up data in the query).

Dim D As Database, R As Recordset, R2 As DAO.Recordset
Set D = DBEngine.Workspaces(0).Databases(0)
Set R2 = D.OpenRecordset("Qry Daily Losses", dbOpenSnapshot)

The error Message I get is:

Run-time error "3061"
Too few parameters. Expected 4.

Most of the information I have seen on this error message talks about 1 parameter expected not 4.

I can open the query directly by clicking on it in the objects list and it looks fine. It is only when I try to open it in my code that it goes wrong.

I am using Access 2002 (SP3)

Error 3061, Openrecordset Problem

Nov 7, 2004

Hello. I am trying to sort this out and hope someone can help.

Using Access 2002 front end, sqlserver 2000 back end.

In my front end database I have a query called "queEEGBilling" that is used to populate a report. It is quite a complex query which I did using the query designer, NOT with a WHERE sql command. I am not very good with SQL syntax.

The report works fine, and displays the records I want it to display.

However, after the report is displayed, I want to modify one field in each record to indicate that the report for hat record has been printed out (it is a billing package, and I want to indicate that the bill has been sent).

In order to do this, I need to access the recordset that was used to create the report. As I understand it, I cannot do this with a report (no equivalent of the recordsetclone property or anything similar). What I have to do is create the recordset that was used to create the report in the first place. No problem right?

set mydb=dbengine(0)(0)
set rs1=mydb.openrecordset("queEEGBilling")

However, here I get the infamous error 3061. Too Few Parameters. Expected 1.

I have googled this up and down, and it seems to be related to my query being too complex. However, I did not write this query by hand, it came from Access2002. And this query worked fine to generate my report. So, why does it crash now??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Gyl

Have User Input WHERE Criteria In An OpenRecordset Method

Jan 27, 2006

How can I have a user enter the WHERE criteria in the Set Rs statement below.

Set Rs = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("SELECT [Net] FROM [tblRecap] WHERE [Yr] = 2000 and [Event] = 'lancaster'")

I would like a message box to ask the user to define the [Yr] = and [Event] = fields since they would change from time to time and then pass the values to the OpenRecordset method. Is this possible? Can someone help supply the code?

A parameter query won’t work because when you manipulate these queries in DAO through VBA you need to supply the parameter value before you open the recordset object. If you don’t DAO generates an error.

Here is my code:

Option Compare Database
Option Explicit

Private Sub ReportFooter_Format(Cancel As Integer, FormatCount As Integer)

Dim ConsqWin As Long
Dim ConsqLoss As Long
Dim tmpWin As Long
Dim tmpLoss As Long
Dim Rs As DAO.Recordset
Set Rs = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("SELECT [Net] FROM [tblRecap] WHERE [Yr = 2000 and [Event] = 'lancaster'")
Do While Not Rs.EOF
Do While Rs!Net > 1
tmpWin = tmpWin + 1
Rs.MoveNext
If Rs.EOF Then Exit Do
Loop
If Rs.EOF Then Exit Do
If tmpWin > ConsqWin Then ConsqWin = tmpWin
tmpWin = 0
Rs.MoveNext
Loop

Set Rs = Nothing

End Sub

By the way the YR field is a number and not a date so the WHERE clause doesn’t need #2000#

Any help would be appreciated.

Queries Randomly Fail On New PC

Nov 8, 2011

I have a database that I previously ran successfully on a Windows XP system. I recently received a new PC with Windows 7 Enterprise (32 bit) that is having issues with running queries from the same database. I am still running the same version of Access (2003) on the new laptop but the queries seem to stall out and Access becomes non-responsive. Can switching from one operating system to another cause this issue? I am really just starting to use Access, so I am a novice at troubleshooting and thought that I would ask this question before digging deeper.

Modules & VBA :: Query Parameters Generating Error 3061 With OpenRecordset

Sep 9, 2013

I have a library function that will allow the user to nominate a query (as one of its arguments) in the calling application which must have an email field. The function will then Do Loop the email field, concatenating it before creating an email and addressing it. The intended functionality is that a developer can easily create a group email, just by creating a query.

This works fine if the query is filtered "statically" - i.e. I specify which group of people by typing in their "Site_ID" in the criteria. However I want developers to be able to creating dynamically filtered queries (perhaps by the group's ID on a calling form). Within the query (to test it), the filter is therefore [Forms]![Test Function Calls]![Site_id]. When I run the code, I am then presented with "Run-time error 3061: Too few parameters. Expected 1". The code in question is:

Dim rst As DAO.Recordset
Dim stTo As String 'one of the function's arguments received from the calling function.
Dim stToString As String 'the built up concatenated emails

Set rst = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset(stTo, dbOpenDynaset, dbSeeChanges)

[Code] ....

Return List Of Records That Fail To Append?

Sep 17, 2015

In short, I want to know which records fail to append based on violating the primary key. (Win 7, Access 2010 32bit) Similar to how Access creates import table errors, but for append violations...

The DB takes a daily data dump. Failures to append (in this DB) indicate a status of "complete" that needs to be re-examined. (A true complete will not be present in the daily file). The daily file also contains all new daily work, thus it isn't just a list of "completed" tasks to re-examine.
