General :: Combo Box To Search Over 100k Records
Mar 17, 2014
I have a database with over 100k records and I want to use a combo box to search for records by typing in the name. I found code to do this at: [URL] .....
This is working, however i have many fields on the form that I want to populate from the table after the search. Right now only the 3 fields from my rowsource combo box populate.
In my select statement do I need to SELECT * (all) and then populate the fields that way, or is there a way to populate from the table based on the ID of the record that is found?

Dear all,
I'm trying to incorporate a combo box in my form to navigate through records. The plan is to select a piece of equipment listed in the combobox, and that record will then be displayed as an "after update" action.
However, I have tried through coding I have tried before and utilising the wizard to create this combo-box, but each time I get a "Complie Error - Can't find project or library".
The section of code is shown below:
Private Sub Combo227_AfterUpdate()
' Find the record that matches the control.
Dim rs As Object
Set rs = Me.Recordset.Clone
rs.FindFirst "[EquipmentID] = " & Str(Nz(Me![Combo227], 0))
If Not rs.EOF Then Me.Bookmark = rs.Bookmark
End Sub
Any help gratefully received!
Thanks,
Steve

MS ACCESS 2010
AutoExpand Property Set to Yes
I have a bound combo box that has a query as a row source, The query has 3 fields called from tblMasterItems, The ItemID , ItemDesc and ItemSupplier(related to the PK of tblSupplier).
Column Count = 3
Column Width = 0";1";0"
If I do not put a criteria under ItemSupplier, the combo box behaves just fine. The problem happens when I set the criteria under ItemSupplier, the criteria being the supplier ID, the combo box no longer expands and searches as you type, but the items in the combo box have been filtered and are there.
Summary:
When the row source qry ItemSupplier Field does not have a criteria, cbo works just fine.
When the row source qry ItemSupplier has a criteria, cbo no longer expands and searches as you type, but has the filtered data showing if you hit the expand button (that arrow pointing down in the cbo)

[URL] ....I am trying to dynamically search multiple fields from a combo box on a form that includes a subform. I am using code from the above referenced link within this forum.
It works without the "setFocus" for the Listbox except it jumps to a record after the very first character is entered instead of narrowing down as characters are typed. If I leave in the "setFocus" I get run-time error 2110.

What I want to do is have it so that if I pick "4+", it will show all records that have 4 stars and 5 stars and "3+", it will show records with 3, 4, 5 stars.

I have a table of data regarding companies (contact info, etc). The company I work for provides these companies with up to 10 different products. On my input form, I have created 10 check boxes (and thus, 10 columns of Yes/No data in the corresponding table).
Each company has at least 1 product checked off, and up to all 10.
I would like to create a combo box that lists all 10 products, and upon selecting one, a list box then populates with the names of the companies (primary key) that use that specific product.
So, for example,
Company A buys CATS and DOGS from us
Company B buys DOGS
Company C buys CATS and ELEPHANTS
Combo box options: CATS, DOGS, ELEPHANTS
If I choose DOGS, then a list box gets populated with:
Company A
Company B
and when I click either of these, the record should be brought up for the respective company.
All of this should take place in the header of the form, while the form itself can be updated based on search selections.

I am trying to create a user friendly form to enter a list of competitors entering an event.
I would like the user to pick from a list of events and that event to be used for subsequent records until the user changes it.
I have used a combo box to pick from a list of events but that needs to re-selected for every new record. I then added a second unbound combo box to give the main combo box its default value. It works but is not very user friendly.

I have a table with the following 5 fields. (Service Type), (Valve Name),(Size),(Rating),(Description).
I want to do two thing:
First: I want to select the required information from the first 4 fields using combo boxes and get the last field (description) based on the selected 4 fields. In other words, i want the record to be filtered using first 4 fields to give me the last field info.
Second: I want to store the filtered record (all 5 fields) in another table.

why the code below is not functioning properly. When I type in an acronym in the textbox, it keeps saying there is an error "Run-time error '3345': Unkown or invalid field reference 'ABO'." I do have ABO in the field.
The dysfunctional code:
Code:
Private Sub btnFind_Click()
If (TxtFind & vbNullString) = vbNullString Then Exit Sub
Dim rs As DAO.Recordset
Set rs = Me.RecordsetClone
rs.FindFirst "[Acronym] = " & TxtFind
[Code] .....
The red highlighted line is where the debugger leads me to. Something with identifying the field? I would like to enable the search procedure to search throughout the entire records rather than just a specific field. How may I write such a line or two?

I have built a custom search form in a MS Access 2010 database so that users can find specific records to edit. After entering the search criteria and hitting a Search button, another form opens up that shows the search results. This second form includes a command button for generating a report of the search results.
Right now, the custom search form and the search results form are both working properly, but the search results report is showing every record in the database instead of just the search results. This is true whether I access the report via the command button in the form or the navigation pane. I'm not sure if I need to correct my VBA code or the report's properties.

Hello All
I was wondering whether it is possible to use a combo box to select a set of records in the same way as you use a ‘LIKE’ statement in the Criteria of a query.
Basically, I want to choose (from a combo box) a year from which to display a set of records in a report.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Harold Clements

Hi,
I currently have a table with a load of customer details: tblCustomer
and i have a form with a combo box that looks up the customer's record with a drop down menu by the surname then the firstname columns from tblCustomer.
The problem i have is there will be over 2000 customers in the system eventually, and a drop down box just isnt going to work, so i need a method of somehow when the menu from the combo box comes down, of selecting a letter from the alphabet and then a list of all the customers with surnames beginning with that letter showing up.
anyone have any ideas please?

Is it possible to create a combo box to search for a record using "like" for the search. For example, I want to type in "Fred" and the combo box will show any record that has "Fred" in the field: Fred Roberts, Frederica Adams, or Adam Fredericks.
Thanks

I'm an Access newbie and I'm having trouble restricting a combo box on a subform based on the selection of the combo box on the form. The combo box (Combo1) on the main form (FrmOrganisation) gives a list of companies, I want the combo box (Combo2) in the subform (SbFrmEmployees) to list people only from that company. I then have a subform within that subform that displays information about the employee.

I have seen a few articles here and there on using a combo box to filter records in a sub-form and to filter records in another combo box, but I am not getting anywhere. I hope someone can belp
Exercise 1
For this exercise, I have the following tables:
tblClients containing client names
tblProjects containing some project details
I want to set up a simple form, so that the user can select a client name from a combo box on the main form which filters the project detail records in the Projects sub-form.
Once the user enters project details, I want this info as well as the selected ClientID to be fed back to tblProjects.
Exercise 2
I have the following tables:
tblProjects as above
tblWorkstream containiig names of workstreams and some other details.
Every project has one or more workstreams
I have a form where users will enter hours worked on each workstream. They will first select Project from a combo box on the main form. This should then filter records to be displayed in the Workstream Combo box, before they can then enter hours.
Please let me know if you need me to explain any part of this better.
Thanks in advance.
ps. I am a novice, so I'm hoping to do the above using default MS stuff, not with complex programming!!!
Thanks

Hi
I was wondering if it is possible if I press a key on the keyboard say 'c' once I've opened the combo box, that I will be taken to name in the SECOND COLUMN that begins with c. At the moment if I was to press 'c' it will take me to a unique identifier that begins with c as the unique identifiers are in the FIRST column not in the second.
Can anyone help me?
Cheers

I am new to access and trying to create a combo box that will enable the end-user to select a field in a database. Then type in the information in a text box to search for information in that field. For example: end-user can select MAC-Address and then type in the MAC-Address number to locate it in the database.
I have created the form and combo box but it will only search the rows of the table.

I have a form that has a combo box that is used to populate data in the detail section of the form, I just added 2 text boxes to search and fill same boxes.
They both work, but
My problem is after you search using the text fields the filter that the search used stays and causes my combo box not to work unless you go into design view and delete it from the filter property.
Any thoughts on how to fix this??
Advance thanks

I'd like to search a combo box on a subform for a string containing a (or multiple) '?' on click of a command button. The point of this is to inhibit the submission of a record with ????? as a field value (in a combo box), however it is temporarily allowed before submission of the form.
I tried this on the command button and it didn't work:
If Me!Subform.Combobox.SelText = "?" Then
MsgBox("Error")
End If
I think I am referencing the combo box on the subform incorrectly..
