Using Copy Of Existing Workgroup File On A New Db?

Jun 17, 2005

Hi all,

I've set up security on my database before with great success, and now I'd like to use the same workgroup file (a copy with a new name and location) to secure a nes db.

I open the new db, and join my earlier created mdw file. I'm prompted with that I have joined my workgroupfile.

I then set permissions for each user in the workgroupfile, remove admin rights for the admin user account, and assign admin rights to my own account. I am also the owner of thr db.

I now run the security wizard, and I make no changes to any checkboxes.

This goes nicely, and the wizard closes after making a backup file.

I now want to re-join the system.mdw file, so I don't get prompted with the logon dialog when opening a new db or an unsecured db.

If I now try to start my new secured db by double-clicking on the secured mdb file it opens ?????

Where am I going wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Queries :: Link External File To Existing Database?

Apr 30, 2013

Basically it's trying to take all the files in a given directory and add them into a existing database.

I have a database called Permit. the database has a field called "SEAL" and they will be creating an additional field "SCART" to hold the contents of the file that exist in the directory. Each image file, in directory, is named the same as a unique record in Permit.

example:
Permit-SC might have unique record 532442
An image file would be name 532442.

If the image file matches a record in Permit the image should be added to permit in a field called "SCART". At this point I'm not certain if I want a link or the actual image included in the record. since there's a possibility of including the permit file on the website it might be cleaner to have it included.

General :: Copy A Pdf File Between 2 Directories

May 31, 2013

I am trying to copy a pdf file between 2 directories. I am using xCopy, When I build my copy statement based upon various parameters, it looks something like this:

xCopy C:PDF995OUTPUT*.* P:Billing1297344137.pdf /y

I might note that there is only one file in C:PDF995OUTPUT at a time. So I copy what is there, delete it and it is empty until the next usage.when it executes the statement, I get a DOS message asking whether what is being copied is a File or a Directory. How can I identify that without needing to respond to a message?

General :: Copy A File Type?

Feb 19, 2013

I have to create a flat file to send to a group each month. The file type I create is M(a 7 digit number).(a three digit number), like M1234567.123. I create it as a text file and rename it from a field on a form. The field is in the last line of code below, WaiverFile.

START OF CODE

Dim NewFormName As String
DoCmd.TransferText acExportFixed, "WaiverFiles", "qryViewWaiverBilling",
"C:PSWaiverFilesPSWaiverFile.txt", False, ""
Dim stFileLoc As String stFileLoc = "C:PSWaiverFiles"
FileCopy stFileLoc & "PSWaiverFile.txt", stFileLoc & Forms!frmDailyLogOptions!WaiverFile

END OF CODE

I have a procedure that this is part of. The next thing I need after the code above is to copy this file, M1234567.123, or “M?.?”, to a folder on a mapped drive, that is T:PSWaiverFiles. I need to copy it as M*, so that I can get the file every time. I have tried several things, including:

START OF CODE

FileCopy “C:PSWaiverFilesM*”, “T:PSWaiverFiles”

END OF CODE

General :: Access FE User Auto Copy Most Recent File

Jun 4, 2013

I have an access 2007 database that is split front end and back end. There are about 15 users and the backend is stored on the network. Currently I am e-mailing out the FE when chagnes are made so they have the latest copy.

With everything I have read I think a bat file would work the best at allowing me to make changes on demand without having to continually email out new versions of the FE. Sometimes the changes are behind the scenes unnoticable to the user while others are obvious.

Questions: Exactly HOW does a bat file work? When the user clicks on the access file stored on their laptop? Where is the bat file stored? I am unfamiliar with where to write the bat file code as well - notepad perhaps?

I am not sure how to create a bat file and what the code should be?

For version tracking I need to put a version table in the BE and in the front end correct?

have made a few significant changes but I'm holding out e-mailing it if I can get this version copying figured out and in place first.

General :: Changing Existing Database From Overall To Monthly Records

Nov 8, 2013

I'm altering a database to have certain fields be recorded monthly. For example: instead of a client's file having "Total X Purchased" it would now be "Total X Purchased - Jan", "Total X Purchaed - Feb".

I want to spin the monthlies out of the master clients table & in to ex. tbl_clientsJan, tbl_clientsFeb, etc. but still have them linked; & have a "Totals" table that aggregates data from all of the tables (adds them up).

I have an existing form, & I was thinking of just creating tabs for the months & subforms in each with their sources as the month tables, & removing the fields that don't change month-to-month (e.g. client name), with relationships between them. I would start by copying all of the master table data in to the month tables & allowing edits from there.

the company doesn't track when the transactions occurred; I'm unable to group them along those lines.I'm new to Access & don't want to make a mistake.

General :: Batch File To Allow Users To Copy Latest Version Of Front End Whenever Change Made

Aug 7, 2014

I have been trying to set up a batch file to allow users to copy the latest version of the front end whenever a change is made. The following is the code that I am trying to get to work properly. The first part works fine, the old front end is copied to a folder on the user's desktop as a backup. But I cannot get the copy of the server - the "P" drive, to overwrite the current copy on the user's desktop. Actually I cannot get the code to copy the new front end from the server and install it on the user's desktop. I think the path is correct for I seem to be able to run the new front end from the server.

When I look for the location on my computer, the server locations is listed as:

General (Servernamefiles) (P: ) (there is no space after the P: it seems to result in a smiley face when I type it and try to post it).

for /f "tokens=2-4 delims=/ " %%a in ('date /T') do set year=%%c
for /f "tokens=2-4 delims=/ " %%a in ('date /T') do set month=%%a
for /f "tokens=2-4 delims=/ " %%a in ('date /T') do set day=%%b
set TODAY=%year%-%month%-%day%
rem echo %TODAY%

[Code] .....

This code works so I thought that the path was correct
rem this works
rem start the new DB front end
Start P:AccessMainSplitBENewFrontEndDBMain.accdb

But this code does not.
echo f | xcopy /f/y/ P:AccessMainSplitBENewFrontEndDBMain.accdb c:UsersUserNameDesktopDBMain.accdb

Neither does this:
echo f | xcopy /f/y/ ServerNamefilesP:AccessMainSplitBENewFrontEn dDBMain.accdb c:UsersUserNameDesktopDBMain.accdb

Copy Existing Fields To New Records

Dec 12, 2006

I have a database and I wish to be able to copy 10 out of about 20 fields into a new record automatically using a command button on a form. Similar to the way the Duplicate button or the Create New button would work but only with these selected fields. None of the fields I wish to duplicate are the primary key. The primary key is an AutoNumber field. After clicking the Save button, the primary key would increment one to confirm the save record.

Any help or suggestion would be appreciated!

Thanks!

General :: Access 2010 Split Database Hyperlinks Not Working / When Copy Of Front End Moved

Jul 14, 2014

I have built an Access 2010 split database on my computer and it functions as built. My next step was to copy it to the server at work and test it. I discovered the tables had to be re-linked and so did that. As I have read in the Access World Forums in order to function as a multi-user database a copy of the front end must be placed on the individual workstation with the back end residing on the server, however the hyperlinks in the back end will not function when the copy on the workstation is run. I simply get an unable to open "filename" error pop-up. I can run the server copy and everything functions as built. I know that the hyperlinks require all the files to be in the same folder (relative vs. absolute), but if the back end contains all the hyperlinks why does the location of the front end seem to affect the operation of the back end?

General :: Linking To A New Database File

Apr 11, 2013

I am trying to do some different things and want to experiment at this time. You may think this is a C# question, but I have searched everything I can and can't find an answer. Everybody seems to understand it differently and do not give good answers. I have found that Access people are more creative, are willing to take a chance, and will understand the question.

I created a C# project. I created a database with a table in C#. Now, I would like to dump my data from Access into that table. The database is an .sdf file. If I can do this, I may use this as an Access FE BE later on.

I've checked the login my colleagues uses and it has all the right permissions ect but I cannot seem to figure out why this error is still happening. General :: Close Database When A File Is Not Found

Feb 12, 2015

I have this code that I want to close the database when a file is not found:

Option Explicit
Dim boolCountDown As Boolean
Dim intCountDownMinutes As Integer
Private Sub Form_Open(Cancel As Integer)
boolCountDown = False

[Code] ....

A form with this code is opened when the database is loaded. The form refreshes every 10 seconds. When the form refreshes, it searches (is supposed to search) for a file name and if not found, close the database. but if it's found it does nothing. I rename the file when I want the database to close. But the code runs no matter what and closes the database even if the file is in the correct location with the correct name. the file path above is a network drive but it doesn't work no matter when I put the file. I bolded the parts that are supposed to be searched.
