General :: Cumulative Sum Of Calculated Field
May 26, 2013
I want to know the "cummulative sum of a calculated field".
Given Lookup table : A = U, V, W | B = X, Y, Z
Field C = iif([A]="U",10, iif([A]="V",20, iif([A]="W",30, 0)))
Field D = iif([B]="X",10, iif([B]="Y",20, iif([B]="Z",30, 0)))
Field E = C+D
Field F = Cummulative sum of "Field E". What would be the expression for the cummulative sum here ?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I tried F = Sum(C+D), but it shows me error

I need calculated field (in a query) that executes a running cummulative total for three conditions: "="&Project Name, "="&Service and "<="&Date.
I can do it in Excel using SUMIFS(), but have no clue on how its done in Access 2010 !
The "Balance" field should be the end result:
Project Service Date Amount Balance
A Welding 1/1/2012 100 100
A Welding 1/2/2012 120 220
A Wiring 1/3/2012 150 150
B Welding 1/1/2012 103 103
B Painting 1/2/2012 124 124
B Painting 1/3/2012 155 278
C Welding 1/1/2012 106 106
C Wiring 1/2/2012 127 127
C Wiring 1/3/2012 159 286

I have an invoice form named frmInvoice. It contains a subform named subInvDetails. I am trying unsuccessfully to transfer a calculated subtotal from a text box in subInvDetails to a total in a text box in frmInvoice. Is there a way to do this? I have tried everything I can think of but I can't seem to make it happen.
To be more precise, I have a textbox which is a calculated value ([Rate]*[Hours]) named txtSubTotal in the sub form. In the main form I have a field named txtTotal. I thought that setting the Default Value of txtTotal to =Sum([Forms]![subInvDetail]![Subtotal]) was the right way to it, but the value of txtTotal remained zero. I have also tried using =Sum([Forms]![subInvDetail]![Subtotal]) as txtTotal's Control Source, but that didn't fit my needs or seem like the right way to do it. It didn't work anyway.

I am looking to do a calculated field. Not sure what is the best way to do this, but I would like to have a dates in a table with all of our employees that has what date they started with the company. From that I want to know not how many days they have been with the company, but just the years.
So if I have been with the company 364 days, it should only show up as 0, and if I have been with the company for 365, it will read 1. I would like this to be in a query somehow. We use the number of years they have been with the company for their pay, and need it to be years, and not days.

I need to populate a table with Grid reference values consisting of 6 figure integers, eastings and northings.
I am receiving/downloading the Grid Refs in a UK Grid Tile format, with 3, 4 or 5 figures preceded by letters.
E.g. SK 456 849, SP 6789 4356.
I have used some query functions and written a bit of VBA behind a form to convert the received coordinates into the full coords I want. The coordinates are now in unbound controls on a form, and I want to pass these back to a table so I can use the data for display purposes.
Ideally I want to link to the table from a GIS and autoupdate without having to open the database (my imported data is linked in to feed the database automatically).
I have done some searching and not found a method to pass the values into a table - What is my best way of doing this automatically?

The interface being used is a main form with various tabs and a subform on each of these tabs.
There is one field ('max power density') in my database that is calculated using 'Max Rated Power' and 'Cylinder Capacity' however these are in different tables and subforms. The 'max power density' and 'max rated power' are in table and subform 1 but 'cylinder capacity' is in table and subform 2. Is it possible to keep them in separate tables/subforms and still calculate the field?

I have an option button for a field [Fully Paid] (Yes/No) in my LoanT and i want to know if it's possible for my database to automatically choose an option depending on a calculated field
(Calculated field from another query) = [Outstanding Balance]
Say... if [outstanding balance] is = 0 or negative (refundable), then Yes should be On, if not it should remain No/off so that i wouldn't have to go over every record and manually choose the option
The option button is very useful when i want to display loans which are Paid and/or still active. How do I go about this?

I have several projects with different tasks for each. I have 3 fields [fkProjectsID], [TaskOrder] and [Duration] in a table for project tracking with that structure:
[fkProjectsID] [TaskOrder] [Duration]
1 /1 /5
1 /2 /8
1 /3 /15
1 /4 /6
2 /1 /8
2 /2 /30
2 /3 /25
I want to calculate cumulative values stored in [Duration] field (represent a number of days). I'm using the field [TaskOrder] to order different tasks within each project. With some testing, I was able to calculate cumulative [Duration] with 1 project using the DSum fucntion as following:
CumulDuration: DSum("[Duration]", "[tblProjectTracking]", "[TaskOrder]<=" & [TaskOrder])
I was having the sequence: 5, 13, 28, 34 for respectively Task 1,2,3,4. However, when I add a second project (and then a third...), I need to be able to filter based on [fkProjectsID] as well (i.e. a specific DSum by ProjectsID). I add this criteria but I get the sum of [Duration] on each row instead of the cumulative:
CumulDuration: DSum("[Duration]","[tblProjectTracking]","[TaskOrder]<=" & [TaskOrder] And "[fkProjectsID]=" & [fkProjectsID])

My query contains two calculated fields [TaxSavings1] and [TaxSavings2], which are based on some currency and number-type fields in one of my underlying tables.
I just created another field in my query which looks like: [TaxSavings1]+[TaxSavings2]. Instead of adding the two fields, it actually lumps the two numbers together. For example, if [TaxSavings1] =135 and [TaxSavings2]=30.25, it will give me: 13530.25. I need it just to simply add, i.e. answer of 165.25.
Does anyone know how to correct this? Thanks in advance.

Table1 contain Two fields (3Months) and (6Months)
Table2 contain Two fields (3Months) and (6Months)
the table 2 is the source of a form that will let the user change the numbers. table 1 should change Date1 and Date2 Fields based on the two fields (3months) and (6months) if i want to make a lookup wizard it should be changed manually and if i make a calculated field i can't find other tables in the expression builder

I have a query with a Date field for EndDate (the dates for end-of-week, Fridays in our case) and another field for Sales (number of sales, not dollars).I want to add 4 calculated fields that represent weeks and have the Sales appear in the correct column (field) for that date.So I will have columns for 10 July 15, 17 July 15, 24 July 15 and 31 July 15 and I want the Sales for each record to land in the correct date column, based on the EndDate column. (The 4 fields is just for the sake of the example, I will actually be having dozens of these calculated date fields).I tried to do it by setting up the 4 calculated fields like:
10Jul15: Sales
and then adding Criteria like:
EndDate = #10/07/2015#
It doesnt work.

I have a score marking template for an internal audit. A criteria is either met, or it is not. All of these questions have Yes/No data type. each question has a weighting. I have written a VBA function to work out the total score by using a bunch of If statements.I need to store the final result in a table, by entering the answers (yes or no) into a form.

We are running Access 2010 runtime on Server 2008 R2 with both FE and BE on it. Each user has own FE copy on Server which is opened from own PC through remote desktop.
After fresh Server restart all goes well for 1-2 weeks. But then some strange behaviour starts:
- values of all calculated fields - whatever, on forms or on reports - disapears. When I click on a field it shows up again. And refresh does not work;
- all condition formats does not show up until I hover the mose on it.
When we restart the Server all comes to normal again. Its very annoying because users thinking data are gone!

I know that it isn't usually best practise to store calculated fields in a table, but in my situation it is necessary, and I haven't really found a good answer for this after searching these and other forums.
Currently my database has one "Name" field (I didn't make it like this) which might look like this "Jonathan (John) Smith"
Now I also have reason to grab the name like this "Smith, John" for other purposes.
I've set up a form for inputting new people with separate fields for firstname, preferredname, and lastname. I have the calculated fields:
=[fname] & " (" & [pname] & ") " & [lname]
=[lname] & ", " & [pname]
(Later I will add in all the iif's for if there is no preferred name)
Upon finishing the form, the user hits Submit, and I would like to store the concatenated values into the table in their appropriate fields.
I can do this with a SQL INSERT INTO statement but I'd have to add all 25 or so fields from the form, and injecting user input directly into a SQL statement is not best practice either.

I have two tables, one for budget and the other for actual expenditure. I need a query or queries that will give me a cumulative figure on 3 groups based on the expenditure table. In my expenditure table I have the following fields.
ExpenditureID Autonumber
Period Text
CostCentre Text
CostCode Text
Value Currency
fldDate Short Date
I have managed to fnd a function that will give me a running sum for each individual group, but cannot seem to get it to work for more than 1 group. The function is this.
Function fncRunSum(lngCatID As Long, lngUnits As Long) As Long
'Variables that retain their values.
Static lngID As Long
Static lngAmt As Long
If lngID <> lngCatID Then
'If the current ID does not match the last ID, then (re)initialize.
lngID = lngCatID
lngAmt = lngUnits
Else
'If the current ID matches the last, keep a running sum for the ID.
lngAmt = lngAmt + lngUnits
End If
'Pass the running sum back to the query.
fncRunSum = lngAmt
End Function
Is there any way I can see the results in one query or table? Any help appreciated.
