i have a database that has a hyperlink on the table, my concern with this is that if the folder with the linked items(pdfs) is moved to a different location then does that mean that all the links will not work? if this is so is there a way to get the links to point to correct items other than manualy doing it ( there are thousands of links ) the reason i have used links is to keep the database small in size.
View RepliesI have a number of databases in my system and I created a database that only has a switchboard form in it. This switchboard form has links to all of the various databases I have created and opens their default input form. This works fine but now I wish to place a button on the switchboard to run a report that is located in one of the databases.
I tried to use the hyperlink command in the switchboard database but that will not show me the information in the other databases only the switchboard database. I assume I have to link the databases and create a connection to the other database and its report.
How do I restrict access to the database while still being able to add a new hyperlink? I tried deselecting the "display navigation pane" option. But when I do this I am unable to add/edit a hyperlink in a form - when I right-click the only option I get is "add to favorites" rather than "edit", etc.

The problem I'm having is when I put the following: file://"N:DbaseFilesSCC_Dbase.mdb" that works. It will open Access to that dbase file. But if I include the workgroup file associated like this: file://"N:DbaseFilesSCC_Dbase.mdb" /WRKGRP "N:DbaseFilesCSS_Issues.mdw" it doesn't work. Can someone please tell me why. I've been struggling with this for days now. I can't find any solutions.

This code works great when I open the databases individually. but my problem is that I have a label on the pop form in accdb 1 with its hyperlink address set to accdb 2 and the subaddress set to the macro name.The hyperlink opens the database 2 just fine and it opens the loading form but it doesn't minimize the application window.
I have to save the hyperlink of the copied file into a record of my database.

How to keep the 'Website' field value, based on 'Model' (as in Excel)?
I need to get an email address from a field and place it onto another form.. HOWEVER I dont want it as a hyperlink, nor do I want the mailto blah blah coming over.. I just want the email address as TEXT.In the application the user opens the email form by clicking an icon on an invoice screen, this will allow them to automatically email to the client.. Once they open the email screen they naturally see an arrangement of other boxes where they can enter subject, email description etc..
At the same time there are two boxes, the "To" box and the"From" box... I want these boxes to be auto updated with the email address (to save time). When the user clicks the icon on the invoice screen it automatically copies and displays the email address of the client in the "To" box on the invoice.. The problem I am having is that it is displaying as useless information which is associated with the hyperlink.The email address comes from a field that has already previously been associated as a hyperlink, and it HAS to come from this field, I have no way around it.... All of this information is coming from an address book section from a field that is a hyperlink field.. If it was a txt field then I would not be having this problem.
As I already have various forms open displaying information I am able to used simple code to fill in various bits of info to save time... Because of this I am using simply code to copy the email address from one form to another:
Forms![Email]![To] = Forms![AddressBook]![Email]
Obviously the above code is simple and works for 90% of this type of approach, however there must be some other code that I need to use to first translate the email address to text...
In the end I don't care what I have to do as long as it works.. Remember though that the original field is a hyperlink field and must remain so, I cannot simply convert that to txt..

I have scoured the net and these forums looking for the answer but cannot find a good solution.
I am producing flow charts in Visio, and then saving them as HTML documents for use on our Intranet. Within the Visio flow diagrams I am using Hyperlinks on various shapes and text, to enable the viewer to open various other documents in various other applications. This seems to work fine in my web browser for normal office documents, like word and excel, but I need to be able to do it for MS Access databases too! Because the web browser tries to open it in the browser itself, the database won't open and I just get the normal "Web Page Could not be found" screen.
Another useful feature would be to be able to open to a number of different specific forms from a database, depending on which hyperlink is clicked. I assume this is not possible as you only seem to be able to define on page to be displayed upon opening the DB. Am I correct?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
We are using access 2010, I have a blank form that produces an ID number for the specific record when saved. then i have other forms where the ID field is hyperlinked to the original form that was entered. I now have 2 users that are unable to open the hyperlinked form. when i login as them im able to open the hyperlinked form.

I'm trying to create a pdf report displaying records in a columns, with each record having its own hyperlink. Rather than displaying the actual hyperlink, which is quite long, I'd like to portray a friendly_field like in Excel (Hyperlink("Link"). Hyperlinkpart doesn't seem to do this.Is there a formula I can create in a query where I can reference each individual hyperlink but show it as a "friendly_field" such as "Link"?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIm trying create a new form to add our current database that will password protect excel, word and if possible pdf documents when they are dragged onto it.
For now I only have 2 boxes 1 containing the password to be applied and the other to drag the file onto.
I have it all working so once its dragged on it works out if its a word doc, opens a hidden instance of word which then resaves it with a coded password.
The problem comes when change it so the user enters the password to protect it, when they enter a password or click on the drag box it doesn't allow the drag. it seems once they have entered the record the drag option is not available anymore.
I am having a problem with Hyperlink in a form when I click it tells me Run time error Microsoft access cannot follow hyperlink. Each records has its own link for specific file. If I click the link in the table it opens with no problem but in the form I get the error message to debug or end if I hit End it open the link.
Looked at the form - on click event procedures my command is
followhyperlink me.privileges
Am I missing something.
i have thousands of data records with hyperlinks that are correct. Each data record shows the actual link (google.com, foxnews.com, espn.com, etc.). However, i want to change all of the records to just say "link" instead of saying espn.com, etc. How can i do this automatically without having to manually right click, edit, and changing the text to display?

If the user clicks on this link then the respective file should be open..I don't want the front end users to see the entire path. So, I would like to have the names as 1234.pdf in the location column instead of M:New1234.pdf. Is it possible to hide the entire path in the backend and show only the name of the file. so that if users click on 1234.pdf then the file needs to open.

I want to be able to store 2 identical fields on the same table in the database. The copy will start off being the same as that input in the original field. 90% of the time the 2 fields will always be identical but the copy may be changed at a later stage. I looked into using the copy as a calculated field but found out these can not be updated. Is there another control I can use or do I have to code the population of the 2nd field specifically (in AFTER UPDATE EVENT?) myself. The added complication is that the original and copy must be selected from a combo box as all values are held in a separate table.
Also trying to make the second field = to the first field in the design stage of the table using default value
SO if I put default value = [table].[fieldname] I get an error stating could not find field 'table].[fieldname', and yes the opening and closing square brackets are missing from the error.
I have been asked to create a database that creates orders, debits stock etc for my company. Now I have been asked to put in some kind of discount table with percentages for each individual item for each individual customer. What would the best way of doing this?
I figured in the Customer Table I would have a code such as 'CustomerADiscount' and 'CustomerBDiscount' etc. and then in my table maybe
Product A - CustomerADiscount - 10%
Product A - CustomerBDiscount - 20%
Product B - CustomerADiscount - 5%
Product B - CustomerBDiscount - 7%
This link these values up within a query? Would this be the best way of doing it?
Is Access able to determine a percentage in "10%" or "5%" or do I need some type of formula for it instead?
I'm having a problem with a database that i had split. While creating teh database, i had it stored on my personal drive at work, but wanted to move it to the shared drive so the data could be stored there. this is to deal with cross site network connectivity issues that we encountered with another database here at work.
When splitting the database, i split it on my personal drive and then dragged the back end to the common drive. I realized my error, but when attempting to correct it, i somehow have two of the same file, and no back end?
I receive the error on the attached document when attempting to access any of the tables or information in either of the files, the "back end" that i placed on teh drive, and the "front end" that i have on my personal drive.
I also tried to relink the tables through the linked table manager, but receive the same error when attempting that.
Is there a way to recover from this? I had backed up my file by making a copy prior to splitting, but somewhere in this process, this became linked to these and is having the same issue. Is there a way to recover the old "unsplit" version? I cannot copy over all of teh tables, etc. because i get the same error as earlier.

I want to track each pallet (product/time in/time out etc) to each pallet space within the warehouse. There are a total of 400 pallet spaces or 'locations' as i will refer to them as.
Now, would it be possible for me to have a table set up for each location? Will access object to having 400 tables in my data base?? Is there a limit?

I have a basic knowledge of MS Access and for some of you it might seem like a stupid question, but here's my issue:
I'm trying to create an hyperlink in a form (or a data access page) to a web page, but part of that hyperlink url will be contained in a field in a table.
For example, the link would look like that: www.[site].com where [site] is a field inside let's say Table1. So depending on the value of [site] the link will return: (URL address blocked: See forum rules) or (URL address blocked: See forum rules), etc..
I assume it might require some coding to achive the desired result which I don't know anything about
I tried to set the control source of my link to: = "www." & [Table1]![site] & ".com" but of course it doesn't work.

I have a split database made in Access 2007. Each user gets their own copy of the frontend from a script. I wanted to be able to edit the design view of the backend tables even if people were using the database so I made all the forms use snapshot source and only allowed data updates through VBA macro update queries. Having any form open locks the backend source table from being edited. In fact, I've found that just having a normal snapshot query open causes the message "Either an object bound to table 'whatever' is open or another user has the table open. Do you want to open the table as read-only?"
Is there some way to have a table be the source for a form or query, but still have it designable under most circumstances?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI linked table rawdata from a database called competitor from a ODBC Database. I run a query with to make a table with a criteria where it retrieves roughly 10 columns with 719,000 rows. And it gives me this error.
(Cannot open database". It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt.
I asked the creator of the database and they said the database grows automatically and it was created with the same Access version as i am using to run the query.
Also when I do a RUN without creating a table and just selecting and displaying the data it does not give me any issues.
