General :: Don't Have Option To Sync Tables After Working Offline
Dec 1, 2013
I am using SharePoint 2010 lists as my tables in my access file.the users sometimes have no access to the sharepoint and I want them to sync their tables to sharepoint later once they do have access to the web.I have no problem doing it on the regular access file, but when I'm using the access runtime, I don't have the option to sync the tables after working offline.

I want to make a database on my company server. There will be two tables. "Customers", and "Visit to customers".
There are 5 sales managers in my company and i want them to collect information about customers on the field.
My question is:
How to sync Customers and Visit tables from laptops with Customers and Visit tables on the server?
Can i do it over internet or i can make a button that will sync tables when sales managers come to the office and connect to lan?

Any way to "work-off-line" in a split database, and then sync the data when one is done working?

I am creating an application that is using Access as the front-end for data entry, some manipulation, etc. In the example, my guys will get a ticket and then stamp that ticket with times of when things are done. The way I'm doing it now is that I have a second Access application that is working as the synchronizer. It just sits in the background and syncs the data.
The issue I'm having is that the guys are on mobile devices so if/when they lose connection to the database (they are constantly moving in trucks), Access doesn't do a great job of reconnecting to the tables, even if you drop the tables and re-add them. I've attempted to close the sync app from the main app and then re-open it but this just results in the sync app being in the foreground and I need something that sits in the background and is hidden.

We have been using a shared database (on the server and it's not spilt) that was converted to MDE file and was created in Access 2003, without any issues for more than 5 years now.
Since we upgraded our office to 2010 (and access 2010) all the sudden the autonumber field starts generates a number that is about 40 to 50 records less than what is should generates. All the records for the missing 40 to 50 numbers are still there and we can search them.
The only work around is to run the database and open a new data entry form (at which time the autonumber field will generates a new number) then close the form, and we keep doing that until we reach the number that should be generated next.

I have several comboboxes on forms that are based on a query which checks the selection of an option group from other form (all are open in same tab container). However, the query stills prompt me for parameter, which tells me it's not pulling the value though there is a selection already made in the option group, and I'm sure the path is correct.
Does anyone know how to make sure that the query "remembers" the value? Would it be better done using a public variable? (I don't know if SQL is capable of accessing a public variable, though)
SQL:
SELECT tblCounty.CountyID, tblCounty.County
FROM tblCounty
WHERE (((IIf([Forms]![frmMainForm].[Form]![frmOption]![optOptions]=4,[tblCounty].[OfficeID]>0,[tblCounty].[OfficeID]=[Forms]![frmMainForm].[Form]![frmOption]![optOptions] Or [tblCounty].[OfficeID]=4))=True))
ORDER BY tblCounty.County;
(The logic is that if you select a office location, the combobox will then filter to only counties that office covers plus two generic placeholders in "4", or allow you to select all available counties if you choose so).

I found a web site that reports 2007 bugs that says this:
Do not use offline folders to store your databases.
Actually, the full thing says:
Update Sep 14, 2007: There is now a known issue where a database stored in offline folders is lost when compacted. There is also another bug where you lose the objects from the Navigation Pane when you delete an object, if the database is stored in an offline folder. Do not use offline folders to store your databases.
What does this mean? I shoudn't have my database on a server? I should have it on the web? Eh?

I have googled and search for this subject and am more confused now...
I am running an offline A03 db with XP and have a hosted website. Right now I have a separate db online that is used for the results on the website, and it works correctly. I used frontpage to create the form.
Now with our offline db I would like to enter the information on a form, and have the results show up on our website, to avoid keying the same info multiple times.
The data that shows up on the website will not be edited, but the table offline will have some fields for edit, that will not show up online.
Is there a way to connect an offline table/query to show up as results online? And if so how or examples? Thanks in advance.

We have a client who is using an Access 2013 DB (Office 2013 Pro Plus) with the Windows 10 operating system. They are working on implementing the infrastructure for using Office 2013 under the Office 365 subscription. The Access DB they are using is setup as 2 .accdb files, one that contains the back end data, and the other the objects for the UI.
They will soon be using MS Surface Pro tablets for their field personnel, and want a form that can be used for data entry while in the field.
We talked about creating a form that could be used offline (basically a new FE and BE) and routine that would do data synchronization back to the network database when submitted by the field personnel.
From online research, it looks like this may be better solved with the use of Office 365, SharePoint, and Access Services. Unfortunately, since they haven't yet migrated to Office 365, we have no way to test it and need to determine if it is a viable option, or if we will need to do the "custom routine" option. Since they are planning to migrate to 365 anyway, if it works, it would obviously be a more cost effective solution for them.
Here are a few questions we have when considering this solution:
1) The Internet is not always available in the field, so the solution must be one that can run offline. Is this possible with 365?
2) They are working to get Sharepoint Services working soon. It looks like we will also need them to implement Access Services. What do SPS and Access Services look like, how do they interact, and what features do they offer and how can we leverage them?
3) What does the web-based Access application look like? What is the path to convert/migrate an Access 2013 DB to a web app? Does all development need to be done (or redone) in a new dev environment for 2013 web apps?
4) The "hydration" of an offline copy of the form is what we would need to distribute to an offline tablet device. What does this involve? Is a small footprint .accdw created? What happens after that when first accessed by the user? Is there a hydrated .accdb for the Front End and/or Back End?
5) If we must hydrate the entire application, we may need to implement security at that time. From our research, it appears that once the Access web app is published to SPS, the objects (lists, etc.) in SPS are lockable at the SPS level, and we may have to use that security layer instead of Access security, correct?

I got an MS Access 2003 db which I think has an general option disbabled or so dnno, here's the case:
When I create a query, and choose to close the query (just be clicking the "X" button at the top), Access doesn't ask me to save the query or not.. it directly displays the box to fill in the name of the query
When I execute an action query, Access just executes it when I click "!" button, without asking me if I want to "deleting, updating, adding xx records"
I've been searching ages to find an option to enable but I can't seem to find anything
Can anybody help me?

I have two dropdown boxes on my form, the second is dependent on the first and shows only employess from the company selected in the first dropdown box. I am using an AfterEvent update to filter the employees.
Now when I try and choose an employee other than the first one on the list it automatically goes back to the first person and the info in the subform only shows their information.

You have a company that sells a small line of very exotic, non-perishable, chemicals to manufacturers.
You source these chemicals from around the world and resell them to the manufacturers.
The chemicals are not only very expensive, but may or may not be required for any given batch of product the manufacturer is producing.
The manufacturer does not know if the chemicals will be required, or not, until the last minute, so must have them immediately available for each batch.
You keep track of the process with a simple database that is built around a "Chemicals" database and a "Transactions" database. Which are linked by [Product Code]
Quite straight forward to this point.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now
You are seeking a way to make these chemicals accessible to manufacturers who cannot afford to buy them, just to have them sit around waiting for the day they are needed.
You set up a system where a manufacturer can purchase an "Option" on the chemicals whereby:
They pay you a certain amount of money for the right to hold the chemicals at their plant for a given period, denoted in weeks.
After the pre-determined period is over they must either:
Return the chemicals to you and you keep the money they paid for the option.
If they used the chemicals, pay you the pre-determined purchase price --you still keep what they paid for the option.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My problem is incorporating the options into the database built around "Chemicals" and "Transactions," e,g,:
(1) The "Chemicals" table has fields such as [Product Code],[Quantity in Stock],[Cost],[Sales Price per Kilo]. The options require a unique set of fields such as [Product Being Optioned], [Expiry Date of Option],[Sales Price per Kilo -If Used],[Weekly Price for Option]
It doesn't seem correct to jam these into the same "Chemicals" table although I could be wrong.
(2) The same is true for the "Transactions" table, i.e., it now identifies the chemicals in each transaction using [Product Code].
To identify an option in a transaction one needs to use [Product Code] and [Expiration Date of Option]
(3) When a chemical is optioned the company has to track the fact that that quantity of it is not available for outright sale until the option expires
(4) A further problem exists even if I have figured out how to structure the tables.
Before selling a chemical one must create a record for that chemical in the "Chemicals" table--not a problem.
Options on the chemicals, however, do not exist until they are sold i.e., instead of using the "Chemicals" table to look up data for each transaction. Each transaction (to sell an option) has to create a record in the table being used to track the options

I'm looking for VBA code.Basically I have a drop down with 3 options on a form but need it to pull up a window to input depending on which option is selected. One selection of the options if selected will not require the input of data, as it can just input a set value or be left blank (haven't totally figured how I want to display it). With all this I will need it to display on a form in a certain format, in which I would like the drop down value displayed with the data inputted, though with the one option without data just would display drop down value.

Creating a database for processing survey data into a report format. We receive these reports as paper copies, which are then scanned in using Remark Office OMR. This results in a table of data, which is intended to be appended to the existing table in the database using Save As --> Access 2007, selecting the database and target table, clicking save as, and then selecting 'Append' from the subsequent popup.
What I want to know is: Is it possible to disable/otherwise prevent the 'Overwrite' option in this window from being selected? Can I make the table or database in such a way that data can only be added, not edited or deleted?

In Excel, I can dynamically add option controls to a frame on a form using the Control.Add method. Is there an Access Equivalent? I can only find Count & Item as Control. items.
It might have something to do with design view i guess.

Is there another field that can be used beside the lookup field in an Access table? I am currently using the lookup field as a multivalued lookup field and I am limited to the the things I can do with it when creating a report or a query on that field. Is there a similar field in Access 2010 that has the same look as a lookup field and allows for multiple values to be selected?

Hello,
I am really stuck - I have a form of companies with a subform of contacts.
In the DB (SQL) the tables are related one to many CoKey to ContactCoKey.
How do I synch these so any new contact record automatically gets a "new" ContactKey as well as the related ContactCoKey?
Thanks,

Hi Gang,
I am using Access 2000.
I have a Main form that displays a sub-form. On the sub-form is a image box that displays a jpeg associated with the current record. The jpegs are stored outside of the db as links and the links are stored in a table in a field called Image1Lrg_Path. Due to the GUI design the image box is a set size = 4cms X 5cms.
On the sub-form I have a cmd button that when clicked should open a seperate pop-up form that *should* display a large version of what ever jpeg is being displayed on the sub-form. The user would then have to close this pop-up to return to the db in order to continue scrolling through the records as normal.
Main Form = frmPlant_Main
Sub-Form = frmPlant_Sub1
Sub-Form Control = Garden_Sub
Image Box = Image1
pop-up form = frmLargeImage1
pop-up Image Box = Image1Lrg
Here's my problem:
If I set the pop-up form up a normal form and have a linked control on it (to display the image) and a text box (in which to type in the image path and name) and a cmd button that, when clicked, sets the image box to the value of the text box. Then this all works great, what ever jpeg file name I type in the text box, providing it exists of course, is displayed when I click the command button. Iset it up this way first as a test to see if I could get the image displayed OK.
Just for reference, here is the code I use for the command button;
-------------------------Code Start---------------------------
Private Sub Command1_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_Command1_Click
Me!Image1Lrg.Picture = Me!Image1Lrg_Path.Value
Exit_Command1_Click:
Exit Sub
Err_Command1_Click:
MsgBox Err.Description
Resume Exit_Command1_Click
End Sub
----------------------Code End--------------------------------
Now, if I try to link the pop-up to the image being displayed in the sub-form Access throws up "Can't find the form" errors.Just while I set this up, I am using the cmb button to set the path but in the final db I will want the pop-up form to select what ever jpeg is being displayed on the sub-form as its path.
Can any one suggest how I can get this to work?
Again, for reference, here is the code that I am trying to use when linking the image in the pop-up with that shown on the sub-form;
-------------------------Code Start---------------------------
Private Sub Command1_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_Command1_Click
Me!Image1Lrg.Picture = Forms![frmPlant_Main]![Garden_Sub].Form![Image1_Path].Value
Exit_Command1_Click:
Exit Sub
Err_Command1_Click:
MsgBox Err.Description
Resume Exit_Command1_Click
End Sub
----------------------Code End--------------------------------
My grateful thanks in advance,
Kenny

I linked table rawdata from a database called competitor from a ODBC Database. I run a query with to make a table with a criteria where it retrieves roughly 10 columns with 719,000 rows. And it gives me this error.
(Cannot open database". It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt.
I asked the creator of the database and they said the database grows automatically and it was created with the same Access version as i am using to run the query.
Also when I do a RUN without creating a table and just selecting and displaying the data it does not give me any issues.

I have an option button for a field [Fully Paid] (Yes/No) in my LoanT and i want to know if it's possible for my database to automatically choose an option depending on a calculated field
(Calculated field from another query) = [Outstanding Balance]
Say... if [outstanding balance] is = 0 or negative (refundable), then Yes should be On, if not it should remain No/off so that i wouldn't have to go over every record and manually choose the option
The option button is very useful when i want to display loans which are Paid and/or still active. How do I go about this?

My department and limited the users to only specific tables based on their need and role. However, users have expressed the need to view past work. I do not want to give them access to the table - I am thinking that there should be a way to create a report that shows the data, but how would I set up a search filter option so they can find the one record that they are looking for?
