General :: Effect Size In Multiple Linear Regression
Jul 4, 2012
I have (from SPSS) many multiple regression analyses, and each one of them has about 7-8 independent variables. I need to find the effect size-in particular I want to have effect size above 1% and statistical significance p<0.001. I am familiar with p, but I cannot understand whether effect size is b, beta or R square and how to interpret it.

I have a Table that looks like the following:
A B C D E
10 12 8 4 14
9 10 7 5 12
12 13 10 3 17
10 11 6 6 15
I have figured out how to calculate the regression statistics for A vs B on a query. So it looks like this...
Predicted B Difference between
A B m b via regression Predicted and Actual
10 12 .9474 1.7895 11.263 -.737
9 10 .9474 1.7895 10.316 .316
12 13 .9474 1.7895 13.158 .158
10 11 .9474 1.7895 11.263 .263
Question: What I am looking to do is to duplicate this for A vs C, A vs D, A vs E, B vs C, B vs D, and so on until all of the pairs are calculated and put into one table/query. I know I can just create more fields to the right with the A vs C data and continue on that way, but this does not seem very efficient and I am limited in the number of fields that can be created. So it seems that "going down" rather than across makes more sense however I do not know how to move on to the next pair (A vs C and so on).
I thought of running the regression query over and over again and "recording" the data generated into a table. Once again I have the same problem. How do I tell the regression query to run the next pair? If my data is setup incorrectly, I am willing to change that as well.

I've been searching in vain for a solution to a relatively simple bit of mathematics that I’d like to Access to undertake.
It involves interpolating between data, as illustrated in the following example. Basically have several items, and let's say different "prices" dependent on the number of units purchased. The relationship between the “prices” is not a straightforward formula, therefore I need a query to return an interpolated price for a given number of "units".
DATA
ItemID Price10Price20Price35Price50Price100Price 1000
1£70£135£200£315£800£6500
2£23£31£61£89£210£1500
OUTPUT
ItemIDUnitsPrice(int)
117?
231?
So, for example
if Units <10, Then Price(int) = Price10
if Units = 17, Price(int) = Price10 + (17-10)*(Price20-Price10)/(20/10)
if Units = 32, Price(int) = Price20 + (32-20)*(Price35-Price20)/(35/20)
if Units >1000, Then Price(int) = Price1000
I'm aware that IIF statements might do the job, but I have 15 different 'Price' points, and don't particularly want to nest them all.
This problem was solved previously in Excel using a clumsy set of VLOOKUP/HLOOKUP functions in conjunction with If statements.

Hello,
I'm having a little problem with an Access Query. Simple table design, with relationships as normal, using a junction table for a many-to-many link.
Table1
Field: Area (Text)
Field: T1_ID (AutoNumber)
Table2
Field: T2_ID (AutoNumber)
Field: Value (Double)
Table3Join
Field: Area_ID (Long Integer) *Rel: Table1.T1_ID
Field: Value_ID (LongInteger) *Rel: Table2.T2_ID
Table4
Field: T4_ID (AutoNumber)
Field: Area (Number) *Rel: Table1.T1_ID
Field: Description (Text)
Query1
Sources: Table4, Table3Join, Table2, Table1
Fields: Description, Area, Value
SQL:
SELECT Table4.Description,Table4.Area,Table2.Value
FROM Table2 INNER JOIN ((Table1 INNER JOIN Table4 ON Table1.T1_ID = Table4.Area_ID) INNER JOIN Table3Join ON Table1.T1_ID = Table3Join.Area_ID) ON Table2.T2_ID = Table3Join.Value_ID;
However, with this design as it is, I cannot "edit" the Description field, or change the Area field. The entire Query becomes read only. Why is this? And how should i re-write this to allow me to use the relationships which Link Table2.Value to the appropriate Table4.Area (and display them both in one query), while allowing me to edit all the sub fields.
Thanks

I am trying to write code to change the color of the text on a button on a continues form. I only want the button for the specific record, that meets the requirements of the if/then, to be effected. The code below will change the button for every record if one record meets the requirements.
If Me.datPMDueDate = Date Then
Me.cmdAccessMaintenance.ForeColor = 65280
Else
If Me.datPMDueDate < Date Then
Me.cmdAccessMaintenance.ForeColor = 255
Else
If Me.datSMDueDate = Date Then
Me.cmdAccessMaintenance.ForeColor = 65280
Else
If Me.datSMDueDate < Date Then
Me.cmdAccessMaintenance.ForeColor = 255
Else
Me.cmdAccessMaintenance.ForeColor = 0
End If
End If
End If
End If

I used to generate PDFs in A2003 with Leban's code, and they came out at about 10K.
in A2010 these same PDFs are coming out at about 250K - whether i use docmd.outputto, or still use the previous code
is there any way to reduce the size of the pdfs?

SELECT Count(Query1.Route) AS NumberofReRoutes, Query1.Route
FROM Query1
WHERE [Start Date] <= #9/30/2014# AND [End Date] >= #9/1/2014#
GROUP BY Query1.Route
ORDER BY "NumberofReRoutes" DESC;
The last line seems to make absolutely no difference. I can change it to ASC, or I can remove the line entirely, and nothing changes. I need these sorted by the NumberofReRoutes field, but this method isn't working!The output at the moment is two columns: Route, and NumberofReRoutes.

I have a database (Access 2003 and I am using it with Access 2007 with user level security) on shared folder on internal Dell server and I have created a shortcut to each user's machine to access it. This days I am facing a problem of db size as every 10 days it's increasing upto 2gb but the strange thing is when I am doing cut / pasting same database to my desktop from the server shared folder it will become 80 mb only and I am again placing that db (80mb db) into the server and it will work. What is a reason behind it? why my 80mb db is showing 2gb db on server?

I have adopted someone elses database. It is a front end with about 100 linked tables/forms/reports/modules. The problem is that the database is really large. I would think by looking at the objects that it should be around 5mb tops, however after compacting it is still 63mb.
Is there a way (vba or otherwise) to look at each object and get its size in KB?
Once I can figure out which object is taking up too much space I can work on making them smaller.

Hello,
I have a MS Access form with a few hyperlinks on it. I have tried to achieve effect similar to hyperlink roll over effect on a web page: when mouse pointer goes over a hyperlink it changes colour, etc.
Unfortunately, all I could find was MouseMove event:
Sub Label_MouseMove
Label.ForeColour=vbBlue
End Sub
But in this case hyperlink stays blue even after mouse pointer leaves it. And I would like hyperlink get back it's initial colour.
Thank you

Is it possible (using the menu or VBA code) to find out the size of the objects in an Access database file?For example if the .accdb file is 300Mb, is there any way of comparing the size of the numerous tables/forms/reports/queries etc, that make up the database?(I know that if I created a new access file and imported the objects from the working database that could give an indication but that would be quite a repetitive process).

I delete the old 10MB table and import a new 10MB table and now the the DB is 20MB - why is not 10MB - number of records is about the same not double. DB works fine and you can't tell any difference except the size.

We have an Access 2010 database that is accessed by some users from another location. Each user has their own copy of the front end. For some reason two users in our Sydney office enter orders, but after they have entered and saved the order, sometimes for no apparent reason they get an "invalid argument" error message and all the data in the order has been converted to hieroglyphics. I cannot seem replicate this from my server location.
It seems to only occur from our Sydney based server. Could it be that each user's copy of the front end is located on the same virtual drive on our Melbourne based server? Should I move the Sydney user's copies of the front end to the Sydney based server?I think it might be the growing size of the database but I compacting doesn't reduce it by much.

Using MS 2007, I have a 200 text files exported each day from another application that has two different types of lines (see below). I would like to import each text file in to a database as a single record.
Text file example (text.txt):
R111 WC 8/21/2012 7:00 Doe, John doej 10110110
First Question? Y
Second Question? N
Third Question? Y
...
Seventeenth Question? 10
As you see, I have the first row with multiple fields, but the next rows I have a question and an answer.
I would like to have this data imported as shown in the attachment. Example.zip
Most answers I see are for either multiple lines (same data and sizing). I am not sure how to handle several different lines with that vary in size and delimiters.

I am importing data from a sharepoint list on to Access 2007, as linked data where any changes I make on Access is made to the list and vice versa. However, I recently made a change to one of the column types and this change is not being made on Access. I have changed a column type from choice to single line of text but I still see the list of choices when I access the list on Access 2007.
I have refreshed the list by right clicking the linked list and pressing refresh list. The list is set to not cache the list and is not set to work offline so cannot see why the change is not being made. I don't want to mess with the list be removing it and re-adding it as I have multiple queries set up which are being fed in to an excel file I use to create reports from the data. I have no knowledge of VBA, so there is none of that being used on Access.

It is a strange effect I get when switching among records.
In a form I have a TAB Control with some pages, when I open the form everything is ok:
But, when switching continuosly among records, the font becomes strange, looking like being bold.
It seems to happen only when using TAB control or, if you prefer, only on every TAB control's page except for the first one. Tried on different pc with different resolution.

I am using Access 2007 database in work environment. When one of my colleagues tried to update some records in a table, it created a backup of the database.
The issue is that the size of the actual database is much smaller than the size of the backup. However all the data are present and I don't think any data has been deleted.
But I don't know why there is a difference in size?
Some of the tables in the database are linked from MS SQL Server.

Will keeping your field size shorter result in a smaller MDB file?
Or does Access only use as much space as there is real data in its fields.
Way back in the dBASE III days, dBASE would pad all your "real" information with as many spaces as necessary to fill up your field. I suspect that the MDB structure is probably smarter than that.
Another question on the same topic - I believe there is a maximum number of characters in a record (4000?). Can your field sizes add up to more than 4000, as long as the actual data, all combined, never totals 4000...?
Thanks............
