General :: Extract Embedded Images From Database And Save In Folder

Nov 21, 2012

Many years ago I created a database that has one embedded image for each project.

I am now redoing this db in 2010 format and I want to extract these images and save them in a folder so I can link them to the new db based on the project ID number

The table is [Project main], the unique project ID is [R&D ID#] and the image file is stored in [Item image] as an OLE object. i would like to save them to C:db images

Modules & VBA :: Display Random Image From Folder (Not Embedded)

Jun 26, 2013

I'm working on a database for my holiday pictures. The pictures are organized in folders per trip/date/location.

When viewing the data of a particular trip, I want the form to display a random image from the respective folder (path stored in database).

I already found a function to count the files in the folder:

Code:
Function GetFileCount(folderspec As String) As Integer
' Returns a count of files in folderspec, or -1 if folder does not exist
Dim fso As Object
Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
If fso.FolderExists(folderspec) Then
GetFileCount = fso.GetFolder(folderspec).Files.Count
Else
GetFileCount = -1
End If
End Function

to plug into a "randomizer":

Code:
lngFileCount = GetFileCount(strFOLDER)
Randomize
intRND = 1 + Int(lngFileCount * Rnd())
MsgBox intRND

The thing I can't find is how to reference this nth file (or even if there is a way to directly reference this file).

Is there, or do I have to use some kind of looping?

How Do I Link Images To A Folder?

Mar 30, 2005

Hi there.....

I have a minor problem......if anyone could help me on this one, would be much appreciated.

I have a field "OLE Object".

Great!

BUT!! .......I want to be able to LINK my products to pictures from a file.

IE:
Product 1 = AB1.jpg
Product 2 = AB2.jpg

Both images are in C:/images

So...product ID1 is linked to image AB1.jpg...product ID2 is linked to AB2.jpg.

The images must also appear as images in the FORM.

Any ideas on how I can do this ?

Thanks in advance.

Chris

Display Images From Hyperlink Within Folder

Mar 9, 2006

i've looked but can't find the answer!! which is unusual as this forum covers everything.
i have a field [photo location] with a hyperlink to a folder within which is a number of images. at the moment i have 2500 folders and its growing daily. the action i want when the 'photo location' field had got focus or when clicked is for the photos within the folder to open [not within the form itself] - either in seperate windows or preferably all together. i am using irfanview to display the images but am easy on this point. i do not want to give each photo its own hyperlink because there are thousands of them. any suggestions as to how i should do this?

thanks

Hi there,

I have a form which allows a user to click a button, select a image file and it then references that path instead of embedding it. At the same time I would like to write some code that will copy the image from wherever it is located and copy it into the application pathimages folder.

Using Images Stored In Local Folder In Report

Apr 25, 2005

Hi All;

Any advice would be much appreciated….

I have a db of products which drives an ASP website, and includes links to images, which I have now stored locally (with the image path amended to point to the local images folder) along with the images folder containing all the images.

What I now need to do, is produce Access reports using these images, this I initially assumed would be a simple task, but hasn’t in practice worked out that simple!!

So, I now have local folder containing the images, and the products table with an Image field that stores the local path to the image – How can I now get the record and corresponding image to appear in my report? I’ve tried using an OLE field for the images, but this means updating each record manually (unless there is any way of updating the OLE field from the existing image path field??)

Am I missing something totally obvious here?

Thanks in anticipation!

Modules & VBA :: Using Images In A Folder On Report / Form

Feb 28, 2014

I have photos stored in a folder on a drive. I have referenced them before in a simple picture viewer I created in a form. I create the file name by referencing the values of a list box on the field.

Example:

The list box has piid.2005.001 and image name is 2

filename = C:Temp" & pidd & "" & piid & "_" & imageName & ".jpg"
C:Temppiid.2005.001piid.2005.001_2.jpg

Each piid has it's own set of photos in their own folder

Now. I want to be able to print out all the files in a report/form. The piid and image name are stored in a table called tblPhotos so I could reference there.

I want to have a button I click that generates a report/form that spits out all the photos in that folder. Next to a button would be a text box (txtWhichPiid) where you enter in the piid and that's how you know which piid's photos to use.

Access 2010 / Extract Attachments To A Folder And Link Them Back To DB?

Mar 21, 2013

using Access 2010, I have reached the 2GB limit. It's not the data, it's the PDF files I scanned in for each customer that has stretched the db to its limits. The db is also currently split.

I didn't realize Office had a 2GB limit; I assumed if you had a 64 bit computer and a NTFS partition, there would be no 2GB limit.

Using a template database in Access 2010, I need to extract the attachments to a folder and thus link them back to the database using hyperlinks. I can handle this task, but I'm not confident how to extract the attachments from each record (around 900) to a folder and have it do it automatically for all records. I can do it record by record, but that is not feasible with this many records.

how to extract all the attachments for each record, and have them saved in folders by their name or other ID, so I can link them back to the db via a hyperlink?

General :: Block Pathway To Backend Folder But Allow Access Via Frontend Database

Jul 17, 2012

If I have an MS Access frontend that connects to an MS Access backend, is there a way to hide/permission block the pathway to the backend's folder but still allow access via the frontend db?

Right now I can't dedicate a server to a more "secure" form of DB or anything like that so I'm stuck with MS Access for now. I just don't want someone looking at, say, a link table path and then navigating to that folder and getting access to backend information.

General :: Updated Database Won't Save

Feb 26, 2013

I am working on a database. I changed some of the data that was already in the database and it saved without any problems - when I reopened the database, the data was still there. But when I try to input completely new data, none of it will save (it is a database of employees and their information). So, just to make it more understandable, when I change one piece of information, it saves without any problems, but when I want to add a new employee together with their information, save it and reopen the database, it is not there.

Save Attachements To A Central Folder

Dec 26, 2007

Hello,

I have searched and searched for this but I dont seem to find a solution that suits me.

This is the situation. I have a a database wich is used by multiple users through a front-end. The back-end resides on a server.

Is it possible to select an attachement (word, excel, picture, etc) with the front-end and automatically save it to a folder on the back-end?

This way all the attachements are in a central place and NOT in the database.

I know I can easely solve this problem by saving the attachtments to the database itselve but I dont think that attachements belong in a database.

i hope that you guys can help me.

Thanks in advance

Tables :: Exporting OLE Objects Fields To A Folder And Save These

Oct 25, 2013

One of my tables has a couple of OLE Object fields. This has embedded Word, Excel, and PDFs. I'd like to know if there is a way to export these to a folder. Ideally, I'd like to save them with the record id and then a dash and then the file.

The fields are Attachment1, Attachment2, and Attachment3

When I view the table for these fields, if it's a word doc all I see is "Microsoft Word Document".

I'd like to save these like this:

123-Attachment1.doc
123-Attachment2.xls
123-Attachment3.doc

General :: Embedded Excel Files

Feb 14, 2013

pretty Excel sheet full of conditional formatting that is used as a vehicle assignment board where I work. I know I can embed the file into an Access form using an unbound object, and therefore "integrate" it into Access, however this creates a copy of the file, and therefore when people change the sheet, the original Excel file is not updated. Is there any way to embed the excel file in such a way that the Excel document itself is also updated? Basically some sort of an active, two-way link rather than what amounts to just importing a copy of it? I need to be able to pull data from various cells in that Excel file so it needs to be kept up-to-date.
